MARION F. DAVIS

Marion Frances Davis, 69, of Okmulgee, died Sunday evening, January 6, 2002 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was born April 15, 1932 in Okfuskee County to March and Indie (Roberts) Davis.

She graduated from Nuyaka High School in 1951 and had worked in a garment factory in Okemah. She had also worked with the children at O.K. School and enjoyed being with her family. Marion loved to cook, and she wrote and read Creek. She was a faithful member of the Belvin Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, March Davis, mother Indie Davis Tarpalechee, a sister, Lorene Cheek, and a brother Joe Davis.

Survivors include her daughter, Melinda Deerinwater of Okmulgee; a granddaughter, a great grandson, a sister, Josephine Morgan of Morris; and several nieces and nephews.

A wake will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at Belvin Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January l0, 2002 at Belvin Baptist Church with Reverend John Buckner officiating. Burial will follow in the Nuyaka Indian Baptist Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Randy King, Scott King, Tony Berryhill, Ryan Jones, Michael Morgan, and John Morgan. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

BRIAN O. WATKINS

Brian O. Watkins, 40, a resident of Cushing, Oklahoma died on Saturday, January 5, 2002 in a Tulsa hospital. He was born on June 20, 1961 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He was a graduate of Okmulgee High School with the class of l979 and a graduate of OSU Okmulgee with a degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. He worked for Williams Gas Pipeline Central in Drumright, Oklahoma at the time of his death. He was a longtime member of the Town and Country Christian Church of Okmulgee.

Survivors include his parents, Harold and Jeanette Watkins of Morris; two sisters, Deborah Jopling and husband Brandon of Tulsa and Cindy Beavers and husband, Rick of Glencoe, Okla., grandfather, Leon Lawson of Okmulgee; two nephews and one niece.

Services will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Town and Country Christian Church in Okmulgee. Pastor Bill Park and Reverend Lawrence Mattock will officiate. Burial will follow the service in the Morris Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

Pallbearers include Billy Lee, Lloyd McDaniel, Wade Mayden, Tom Smith, Bob Finley and Breck Todd.

ROBERT MORALES

Robert Morales, 77, of Okmulgee died Jan. 7, 2002 at his residence.

Arrangements are pending with the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

KATHERINE EUBANKS

Katherine L. Eubanks, 86, died January 6, 2002 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was born March 6, 1915 in Wichita Falls.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta with Rev. Jim Paslay officiating.

Arrangements are under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.

ERNEST WEST SMITH

Ernest West Smith was born March 28, l915. He passed away January 2, 2002 at the age of 86. Ernest was the eldest son of Ernest W. Smith, Sr. and Mona Lumley Smith. Ernest attended Webster Elementary and Henryetta High School, graduating with the class of 1932.

In 1933 Mr. E. O. Shaw, Henryetta High School Superintendent, was successful in establishing a Junior College, a branch of the University of Oklahoma, in Henryetta. Ernest and his good friend Edwin Shaw, as well as others attended. The next year he went to the University of Oklahoma from which he received his BA and Juris Doctorate degrees. He was affiliated with Sigma Chi fraternity, serving as president his senior year.

After graduation, Ernest went to Oklahoma City where he joined the law firm of B.H. Carey. It was at this time he united with the First Baptist Church where he met his future wife, Katharyn Jean Forth.

In 1941 Ernest was called to serve his country and was sent to Camp Walters, Texas. From there he went to Officers' Candidate School, Carlisle Barracks, Penn. Lt. Smith then reported to Camp Robinson, Little Rock, Ark., where he would serve as an instructor in the Officers' Preparatory School.

Ernest and Katharyn Jean were married December 27, 1942. In October, 1943 Ernest was transferred to Desert Center, Indio California. In early February, the officers and their wives gave a farewell party for Ernest and Col. H.D. Crall who were to leave that night for the ETO. They were also celebrating Ernest's becoming a Major. Major Smith would serve the next year and a half as Intelligence Officer for the 69th Medical Group in General Patton's 3rd Army. On August 15, l945 Ernest was home on leave...the E.T.O. was over and he was headed for Japan but, thanks to the A Bomb, he and thousands of other young men were spared additional years of war.

Ernest established a home in Okla. City and was associated with the law firm Monnet, Hayes and Brown. Their first son, Stephen W. Smith was born May 16, 1946.

Ernest's father passed away Oct, 31, 1947 and, at the urging of severa1 Henryetta businessmen, Ernest moved his family to Henryetta and assumed his father's law practice. A move that proved to be a blessing in many ways.

On April 12, l949 their second son, Donald Lee, was born.

During the years Ernest has served as president of the Creek Nation Area Council of B.S.A . He was awarded the Silver Beaver. He served as Red Cross Chairman, was a member of Lions Club, (president in 1955) , led out in the Christmas basket program from it's beginning (l951). He served as Assistant County Attorney and City Attorney. He served as a deacon in the First Baptist Church and he organized and taught the Maverick Bible Class until his health failed. He served on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce. He was chosen the second Henryettan of the Year. As a member of the Okla. State Bar Association he chaired the Okla. Bar Awards Committee, Workmen Compensation Committee and was a Fellow in the College of Probate Council.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, a baby sister, Jannie, a brother, Marshal "Jack". He is survived by his wife of fifty eight years, sons Stephen and Donnie and daughter-in-law LouAnn. Grandchildren: David, Stephanie Smith Kissman; Amy, Bridgette and Natalie Smith and 6 great grandchildren: Madison, Noah and Lyric Kissman, Kadin Holt, Ryle and Ethan Kissman. One brother, Hoke and his wife Clara, sisters-in-law: Daphne Smith and Jane Forth. Nieces: Susan and Tiffany Stuart, Deborah and Theresa Forth and nephews: Keith and Chad Smith and Robert Stuart.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2002 at the First Baptist Church in Henryetta, OK. Rev. Jim Paslay, officiating with Dr. Tim Walker and Rev. Kenneth Romines, assisting.

Interment will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.

*Donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund.

URA M. HEDGECOCK

Ura Mae Hedgecock, 88, of Muldrow and native Okmulgeean, died Jan. 2. 2002 in Ft. Smith, Ark. She was born in Okmulgee on Aug. 28, 1913 to George Calvin Purvine and Ida Mae Jernigan Purvine.

She graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1931 and received her B.A. degree from East Central University in Ada in 1941. She was a retired school teacher after 29 years and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Muldrow. In February of 1946 she was married in Ft. Smith to James Leon "Dude" Hedgecock, who preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Jack and Willa Smith of Muldrow and Donald and Margaret Smith of Tulsa; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister, Dixie Krueger of McHenry, Ill., and a brother, Joseph Purvine of Henryetta.

Funeral services were scheduled for Jan. 4 at 10 a.m., at the Muldrow First Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Wade and Rev. David Sanders officiating. Burial was to follow at 2:30 p.m., at the Okmulgee Cemetery under direction of the Agent Funeral Home of Muldrow.

JOSEPHINE PANNELL

Josephine M. Pannell, 66, a resident of Henryetta, died Sunday, Dec. 30th in the local hospital. She was born May 17, 1935 in Wildcat, OK to Felix and Fannie (Payne) Taylor Sr.

She was a homemaker. Preceding her in death were her parents, one son, and one sister.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Odell Pannell Sr., of the home; six sons, James Ray Nolen, Tulsa, Ira (Pete) Pannell, Tulsa, Keven Pannell 1st of Henryetta, Cephas Pannell, Tulsa, Shaun Pannell, Henryetta and Brent Pannell, Oklahoma City; seven daughters, Ardell Pannell, Beaverton, Ore, Judy James, Sugar Land, Texas, Barbara Pannell, Henryetta, Lillian Jenkins, Lafayette, La., Elsie Vaughn, Dallas, Texas, Patrice Pannell, Henryetta, and Latrice Pannell, Dallas; seven brothers, Lonnie Taylor, Frankie Taylor, both of Wichita, Kan., Carl Taylor and Felix Taylor Jr., both of Tulsa, Andrew Taylor Sr. Kansas City, Kan., Lee Mitchell of Phoenix, Ariz., and Charles Taylor, Fresno, Calif.; three sisters, Lucille Johnson, Muskogee, Clara Phillips, Okmulgee, and Sally Benton, Hoffman, 24 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren along with numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, 11 a.m. in the Church of God, Hoffman, OK with Brother Lucas Warren, officiating. Burial will be in Hawkins Cemetery, under the direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday, 12 Noon until 6 p.m.

BEULAH B. TOLLE

Beulah B. Tolle, 88, longtime Beggs resident, died Jan. 4, 2002 at the Wagoner Care Center in Wagoner. She was born Jan. 13, 1913.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Tolle, and a daughter, Linda Lemon.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Cecil Lemon of Wagoner.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 7 at Floral Haven Cemetery in the Masonic Garden under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.

Friends may visit the funeral home Sunday from 2 until 8 p.m.

WILLIAM MINYARD

William Lynn Minyard, 83, of Henryetta died Dec. 30, 2001. He was born Aug. 9, 1918 in Indianola, Okla.

He was a World War II veteran and had been employed at PPG in Henryetta as a precision welder in California, working on the X-15 supersonic plane and one of the first Sea Lab Diving Bells.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Minyard of Lancaster, Calif., daughter, Sharon Stover and husband Ken of Lancaster; a son, William Minyard and wife Sandra of Mira Loma, Calif.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother, Jack Minyard and wife Pat; two sisters, Charlene Morey and Joy Hill and husband Cletus, all of Oklahoma City; a sister-in-law, Mary Theresa Ingram of Okmulgee and a brother-in-law, Frank Crawford and Virginia of Henryetta.

Services will be Monday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m., at Westlawn Cemetery where burial will be under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

ROSETTA 'TUT' WILSON

Rosetta "Tut" Wilson, 65, of Okmulgee died Wednesday, Dec. 26th in a Tulsa hospital. She was born June 6, 1936 in Okmulgee to George and Martha (Pickens) Wilson.

She was a homemaker having retired as a cook at the senior citizens nutritional center. She was a member of the New Salem Baptist church where she sang in the choir and served as it's president. Her pastimes were spent, enjoying her grandchildren and great-grand children, along with fishing with family and friends.

Survivors include four sons, Rickie Montgomery of Okmulgee, Donald Montgomery of Morris, Gregory Jackson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Dedrick C. Jackson of Okmulgee; three daughters, Rosetta Montgomery, Okmulgee, Ulonda Jackson, Oklahoma City, and Sandra Humphrey, Tulsa; one brother, Bennie Wilson, Okmulgee; four sisters, Juanita Dixon, Martha Murray, Maxine Nash, all of Chicago, Ill., and Hazel Prim of Oklahoma City; 20 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren along with numerous relatives and friends.

A home-going celebration will be conducted, Saturday, 11 a.m. in the New Salem Baptist Church, with Rev. McKinley Rice, officiating. Burial will be in Northwest cemeteryunder the direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

PAUL EUGENE KENNEDY

Paul Eugene Kennedy, 66, of Okmulgee died Dec. 26, 2001 at his home. He was born Oct. 9, 1935 in Okmulgee, the son of Lawrence and Dollie (Johnson) Kennedy.

He graduated from Dunbar High School and attended Langston University, Oklahoma State University and Central State University. He also served with the United States Army. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City and after his retirement he moved to Okmulgee in 1980. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Jones of Wichita, Kan.; three grandchildren; a sister, Melba J. Kennedy of Wichita and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be Saturday, Dec. 29 at 3 p.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery with Brother Clarence Hall, pastor of Eastside Church of Christ officiating. There will be no public visitation. Funeral arrangements are under direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.
