L.P. Orr
Lifelong Lincoln County resident L.P. Orr died Saturday in Oklahoma City. He was 74.
Orr was born Aug. 4, 1926, near Wellston, to Andrew "Bab" and Mary (Pogue) Orr.
He married Norma June Kirkland on March 5, 1966, in Espanola, N.M.
Orr served four terms as Lincoln County sheriff, and later worked as a U.S. Marshall for the Western District of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, June Orr of the home; two cousins, Matthew Orr, Chandler, and Jeannie Yates, Wellston; stepdaughter and her spouse, Cynthia and Michael Johnston, Oklahoma City; and many other relatives and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Chandler with the Rev. Bennie Waller officiating. Burial will follow in Wellston Cemetery, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home.
Mayme June Ellison Morningstar
Mayme June Ellison Morningstar died Sunday in Shawnee. She was 71.
She was born July 15, 1929, in Centerview, Okla., the daughter of Finis and Rhoda (Wilson) Montgomery.
She graduated from Centerview High School with the class of 1947.
Mrs. Morningstar was a retired bank employee, having worked at the Prague National Bank in Prague and the First Bank of Moore.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Moore.
Mrs. Morningstar was married to Lendon Ellison in Van Buren, Ark., in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1968.
In 1978, she married Glen O. Morningstar, and he preceded her in death in 1987.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, a brother and a sister.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Pat Ellison, Shawnee; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mike Wood, Blanchard; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Adler and Leona Montgomery, Afton, and Bob and Beverly Montgomery, Chanute, Kan.; one sister, Opal Licklider, Prague; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Prague, with the Rev. David Licklider officiating. Burial will follow in Garden Grove Cemetery.
Harold James Messer
Harold James Messer died Saturday in Prague. He was 77.
He was born April 1, 1923, in Gurnsey, Iowa, the son of John and Alta (Norton) Messer.
Mr. Messer was a retired purchasing agent for Southern California Edison Co.
He married Tina McGraw in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 8, 1946.
Mr. Messer had been a resident of Prague since 1976.
He was a member of the Prague First Baptist Church.
Mr. Messer also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Masonic Lodge, the India Shrine and was a 32nd degree member of the Guthrie Consistory.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Survivors include his wife, Tina Messer of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda M. and Bill Young, Checotah, and Shirley Ann Messer, Prague; one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Kathy Kottkamp, LaHarba, Calif.; two sisters, Bernice Fitzsimmons, Albia, Iowa; Dorothy Carpenter, Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church, Prague with the Rev. Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will follow in Prague Cemetery.
There will be no viewing or visitation. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home.
Hazel Nina Louise Berry
Hazel Nina Louise Berry died Saturday in Chandler. She was 85.
She was born Aug. 17, 1915, in Chandler, the daughter of Bradley and Effie (Johnson) Campbell.
She married W.P. Berry on Oct. 11, 1932, in Davenport. She worked many years as a beautician in Chandler.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, W.P. Berry on Sept. 17, a son, a daughter, two brothers and a sister.
Survivors include two sons, Clyde Raymond Berry of Overland Park, Kan., and Ronnie Berry of Chandler; a daughter, Phyllis Raby of Mangum; two sisters, Mildred Gray of Redwood, Calif., and Georgia Wilson of Turlock, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ Church, Chandler, with Jeremi Beller and J.R. Patterson officiating. Burial will be at the Davenport Cemetery, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.
John Carver
John Carver of Tecumseh died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 58.
He was born June 3, 1942, in Muse, Okla., the son of Harvey Carver and Hazel (Wisenhunt) Carver.
He graduated from Corning High School, Corning, Calif.
Mr. Carver attended Arizona State University.
He owned and operated a welding shop.
On July 5, 1968, he married Sandi Wallin in Reno, Nev.
He served in the U.S. Army as an engineer and served two tours in Vietnam.
Mr. Carver was a member of the U.S.T.R.C., A.Q.H.A. and A.P.H.A. He was a silversmith making horse tack.
He was preceded in death by his mother Hazel Carver.
Survivors include his wife, Sandi Carver of the home; father, Harvey Carver of Muse; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Richard Bullard of Prague; son and daughter-in-law, Tige and April Carver of Stillwell; a brother, James Carver of Michigan; sister, Brenda Carver of California; two granddaughters; one grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Tecumseh Church of Christ with Marty Brock officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Muse Cemetery, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Mary Lou Sanderson
Mary Lou Sanderson died Monday. She was 72.
She was born on April 16, 1928, to Sidney and Lucy (Blurton) Whitaker.
She is survived by her husband, Burnie "Bud" A. Sanderson, children Burnie "Skip" A. Sanderson Jr. and wife LueAnn of El Reno, Donald Sanderson and wife Pat of Harrah, Phyllis Stevens and husband John, Linda Little and husband Lloyd, Eddie Sanderson and wife Tina, Kathy Coffelt, all of Oklahoma City, Charles "Smokey" Archer and wife Barbara of Noble, 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four sisters, Betty Duncan Moore, Marjorie Clarkston, Aileen Moore, Ruth Robinson, and one brother Jimmy H. Whitaker.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the South Colonial Chapel of Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary, south Oklahoma City location.
Vernon Seaton
Vernon Seaton died Sunday in his home near Prague. He was 76.
He was born on Dec. 27, 1923, to Olgar and Mary (Adams) Seaton. He had been a resident of the Prague area since the age of 4. He married Augusta Shivers on Jan. 27, 1943, and worked as a firefighter. He moved south of Prague to farm and raise cattle until his retirement. He then drove the senior citizens' van and did volunteer work.
Survivors include his wife, of the home, one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Pete Friend of Prague, three granddaughters, Kristi and her husband Randy Strickland of Dardanelle, Ark., Katrina and husband Roberto Massey of Wewoka and Kelly Friend of Prague, one sister, Jewel Love of Shawnee and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague. Wade T. Jernigan will officiate and burial will follow in the Little Cemetery.
