Bobby Charles Hoskison

Lifelong Seminole County resident Bobby Charles Hoskison, Seminole, died Tuesday at a Maud nursing home. He was 58.

Hoskison was born Aug. 26, 1942, in Seminole to Charles Henry and Izetta Marie (Hyatt) Hoskison.

He worked 14 years for Canadian Valley Electric, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of Haney Congregational Methodist Church, Little.

Hoskison was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Darryl Paul Splawn.

Survivors include two sons, Bryan C. Hoskison, Seminole; Charles Heath Hoskison, Maud; daughter and son-in-law, Nita L. and Darryl Splawn, Saint Louis; mother of his children, Judy McGee, Maud; his brother, Bill F. Hoskison, Seminole; a niece, Andrea Hoskison, Seminole; nephews, Billy Hoskison, Okmulgee; Gregg Upton, Chandler; Scott Hoskison, Texas; Brent Hoskison, Seminole; four grandchildren, Christopher Scott Splawn, Darryn Edward Splawn, DeCota Heath Hoskison and Jurnee Young.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Harvey Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Stephens and Monte Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery. Swearingen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Wesley Brewer

John Wesley Brewer, 84, Davenport, died Wednesday in Chandler.

He was born Feb. 27, 1917, in Neal, Ill., the son of Wesley and Ida (Head) Brewer.

On March 23, 1940, he married Iola M. Chapman in Oklahoma City.

Brewer, a member of First Christian Church of Davenport, was a retired tax accountant.

Preceding him in death were his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife Iola M. Brewer of Davenport; three sons, Randall W. Brewer of Checotah; Terry E. Brewer of Harrah and Dennis J. Brewer of Davenport; his daughter, Joy Walker of Davenport; his sister, Mary Rodgers of Greenup, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Davenport Cemetery. The Rev. Sandy Chase and the Rev. Randy Amos will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

James Odis Allen

Longtime Stroud resident James "Jim" Odis Allen, 95, died Tuesday in Stroud.

The son of James Henry and Eliza (Whitaker) Allen, he was born March 14, 1905, in Gainesboro, Tenn.

On Oct. 8, 1940, he was married in Stroud to Hazel Brown, who preceded him in death in February 1991.

Allen retired from the State Highway Department after 22 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Stroud.

He also was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include his son, Dale Allen of Choctaw; two daughters, Linda Butler of Stroud and Joy Cambren of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Stroud. The Rev. Burl Mackey will officiate. Burial will be in Stroud Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Services in Stroud.

Ada May Hodge

Ada May Hodge, 94, Stroud, died Wednesday in Stroud.

She was born Dec. 14, 1906, in Red Star, Ark., the daughter of Felix and Jessie (Wilson) Holland.

On Jan. 24, 1924, she was married in Chandler to James Franklin Hodge, who preceded her in death April 24, 1984.

Mrs. Hodge, a Stroud resident for most of her life, retired from Howard Johnson after 22 years of service.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stroud.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, her son, three brothers and a sister.

Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Simansky of Monroe, Conn., four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Stroud. The Rev. Burl Mackey will officiate and burial will be in Davenport Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.

Kenneth Harold Melton

Kenneth Harold Melton, Chandler, died Wednesday in Chandler at the age of 83.

The son of Charles Wesley and Vergie Nora (Coombs) Melton, he was born July 3, 1917, in Stroud.

On Jan. 7, 1939, he married Rachel B. Dye in Kendrick, Okla.

Melton, a member of First Christian Church, was a welder and rancher.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Ronald; a granddaughter, Tina, and a great-grandson, Koveigh.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel B. Melton of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Harold and Janis Melton of Pineville, Mo., and Jim Melton of Chandler; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janie and Gerald Hale of Tulsa and Linda and Ray Smith of Chandler; two brothers, Junior Melton of Florida and Otis W. Melton of Rosemead, Calif.; three sisters, Lela Henley of Kendrick, Edith McFarland of Eufaula and Opal Sites of Stroud; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler. The Rev. Mike Mitchell will officiate. Burial will follow in Davenport Cemetery.

Harvey Frederick Koester

Harvey Frederick Koester, 62, died Tuesday in his Chandler home.

He was born Feb. 20, 1939, in Long Prairie, Minn., to Harry and Verna (Pheiffer) Koester.

On Sept. 27, 1959, he married Yvonne Smith in Long Prairie, Minn.

Koester, a farrier and rancher, was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wellston.

Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Koester of the home; his parents, Harry and Verna Koester of Chandler; two sons, Randy Koester of Chandler and Rex Koester of Carney; his daughter, Kim Kauteman of Chandler, and six grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Chandler. The Rev. Chad Bird will officiate. Burial will follow in Star Valley Cemetery.

Marjorie A. Gilleland

Marjorie A. Gilleland of Eufaula died Friday. She was 88.

She was born Feb. 27, 1912, in Lovington, N.M. She was the daughter of Allen Arnwine and Arvella (Cochran) Arnwine.

She married Jesse D. Gilleland Feb. 27, 1930, in Seminole. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Gilleland lived in New Mexico and California as a child, then at Seminole, Oklahoma City, Tryon and Checotah. She left Seminole in 1959.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Pat Hilgendorf; grandson, Bill Hilgendorf; great-grandson, Logan Gilleland; brother, Guy Arnwine and sister, Mable Small.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Lois Gilleland of Checotah; son-in-law and his wife, Harold and Jonnie Hilgendorf of Drumright; one grandchild, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Turner officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Truman B. Simpson

Truman B. Simpson of Bixby died Thursday. He was 76.

He was born June 3, 1923, in Pauls Valley. He was the son of Berry S. Simpson and Ellen Leona (McCully) Simpson.

He was admitted to the bar in February 1950. He was an attorney and practiced in Shawnee until 1993. Simpson married Helen L. Patterson on May 13, 1952, in Norman.

He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and served in the 504th Parachute Regiment during World War II. Simpson was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion and the Oklahoma Bar Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen who died on Nov. 5, 1992, two brothers, James E. Simpson and Burl E. Simpson; one sister, Elta G. "Gerry" Eddy.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Janice Lynne and Frank Clymer, Bixby; former son-in-law, Danny Willis, Bixby; two granddaughters, Tracy Leigh and Brian Mittasch, Edmond; Alycia Lyn Willis, Bixby; one great-grandson, Blake Austin Mittasch; eight nephews and nieces.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home with Rev. C.C. Atchley officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The family has designated Shawnee V.F.W. Post 1317 811 E. MacArthur, Shawnee, OK 74801 as appropriate for memorials.

Audrey McEntire

Audrey McEntire of Tulsa died Tuesday at a Tulsa nursing home. She was 91.

She was born Nov. 30, 1908, in Cowlington. She was the daughter of O.E. and Pearl Greenlee.

She married Henry M. McEntire July 11, 1931, in Tulsa. He preceded her in death Feb. 15, 1988.

Mrs. McEntire was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church. She moved to Shawnee in 1975.

Survivors include a sister, Bernice Jones, Tulsa; niece, Kay Griffith, California; grand-niece, Terri Griffith, Missouri; grand-nephew, Michael Griffith, Arizona.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ernest Strong officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Okemah.

Rev. Vincent De Paul Traynor, O.S.B.

The Rev. Vincent De Paul Traynor, O.S.B., died Friday in Shawnee. He was 83.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Gregory's Abbey Church. Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Gregory's Abbey Church.

Further information will be released by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, Shawnee.

Elizabeth Long

Elizabeth "Betty" Long died Thursday in Prague. She was 73.

She was born Sept. 4, 1926, in San Pedro, Calif. She was the daughter of Hunter and Sophie (Quave) McConnell.

Mrs. Long lived in Lincoln County near Prague for 13 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Prague. She attended the University of California at Los Angeles, where she was the woman's fencing champion.

She had also been an airplane pilot since 1966. Long worked in the banking business for three years and sold real estate until her retirement in 1986.

She married Kenneth E. Long in 1970.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth E. Long of the home, Prague; three sons, Mark Long, Boise, Idaho; Terry Long, Boise, Idaho; Kenneth Long Jr., Long Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Janet McGavin, LaFayette, Colo.; Martha Woelfle, Washington, D.C.; one brother, Hunter McConnell Jr., LaCrescenta, Calif.; one sister, Mary Ann Smith, Phelan, Calif.; two grandchildren, Shawn Long and Raechel Long.

Arrangements were made with Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague. Memorial services are pending at this time.
