J. WALTER FRENCH
CARTHAGE, Mo. - J. Walter French, age 90, died May 13, 2001 at 11:10 p.m. after at the St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage, Mo., after a lengthy illness. He is lifetime resident of Carthage. He was born Nov. 28, 1910 in Carthage, Mo. to Walter French and Susie Leona (Lisch) French. He was employed at the Salesman Buildex Company and a member of the First Christian Church, Carthage. He married Margaret Lorine French Dec. 25, 1931 in Carthage.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Lorine (Spacklen) French; daughters, Karol Jones, Carthage, and Mary Sue Hickam, Grove; son, James W. French, Carthage; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Family will be at the daughter's home in Carthage, Karol Jones, 2112 Carrie.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 16. Burial will be the Park Cemetery, Carthage. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral home of Webb City.

SAMUEL PRESTON FRIEND
SPAVINAW, Okla. - Samuel Preston Friend, 22-year-old Spavinaw resident, passed away Friday, October 12, 2001 at Big Cabin, Okla. Sam was born January 28, 1979 to Candas Friend and Glenn Pegg. Sam was the light of his grand parents life, Sam and Ruth Friend, who raised him. He worked for the Professional Tree Trimmers in Langley, Okla.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Sam Friend, on April 21, 1993. Sam is survived by: his grandmother, Ruth Friend, Spavinaw; mother and step-father, Candas and Billy Johnson, Vinita, Okla.; father and step-mother, Glenn and Gail Pegg, Big Cabin, Okla.; paternal grandmother, Alice Pegg, Big Cabin; step grandparents, Ralph and Ethel Coots, Vinita; great grandmother Candas Spurlock, Mt. Grove, Mo.; three brothers, Randy Johnson, Vinita, Billy Johnson, Norfolk, Va, and Scott Pegg, Okla., and two sisters, Mechelle Turner, Vinita, and Amy Pegg.
Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, at the Burckhalter Funeral Chapel. Rev. Henry "Skip" McClain officiated. Interment was in Spavinaw Cemetery.

BENNIE JOE FRY
MIAMI, Okla. - Bennie Joe Fry, 65, of Miami died Friday July 6, 2001 at Baptist Regional Health Center after an illness. Mr. Fry was born January 10, 1936 in Kinta, Okla., to Elmer W. and Gladys (Montgomery) Fry. He has lived in the Miami area most of his life. Mr. Fry was a handyman and a member of the Southeast Baptist Church in Commerce. He married Homa J. Jameson on October 17, 1977 in Miami, she survives of the home.
Survivors are: one daughter, Tamara Jones Fry of Miami; step-daughter, Karen Jones Lemos of Kansas City, Kan.; two stepsons, David Wright of Miami, and Charles Jones of Holdenville; seven grandchildren, and 30 nieces and nephews.
Mr. Fry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 9, at the Ottawa County Cemetery, south of Miami. The Rev. Jerry Von Moss officiated. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

RAYMOND HOWARD FULLER
JAY - Raymond Fuller, age 80, of 29 Palms, Ca., formerly of Jay, Ok., died Tuesday, December 18, 2001 in the Hi Desert Med Ctr. in Joshua Tree, Ca. The son of Fred and Maude (Miller) Fuller, he was born on January 23, 1921, in Iowa. He had been in farming and roof repair all his life. Raymond married Marilyn Speak, and she survives.
Also surviving, three daughters Delores Bland, Gloria Tate, Rhonda Fuller; three sons, Wesley Fuller, Ray Fuller, Ron Fuller; five sisters, Lois McIntyre, Helen McIntyre, Audry Rushman, Ester Trial, and Edna Metcalf; and a brother, Robert Fuller.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 23, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jay, Ok. The interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. The services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Ok.

BILL GALLOWAY
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. - Bill Galloway, 71-year-old resident of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Wednesday, September 5, 2001 in Southhaven, Miss. Born September 24, 1929 in Bald Knob, Ark., he was the son of William Harvey Galloway and Dona Bullard Galloway. A resident of Siloam Springs for the past 34 years, Mr. Galloway was the owner/operator of B&M Cleaners. He was a former member of Rotary. He married Martha Talley on October 23, 1948. A son, Larry Galloway, preceded him in death in 1977.
Survivors are: his wife, Martha, of the home; one son, Tom Galloway, of Hominy, Okla.; one daughter, Donna Ochs and her husband, Bob, of Siloam Springs; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Helms and Ethel McKamey, both of Wichita, Kan., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 8, at Wasson Memorial Chapel with Louie Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

ROY JUNIOR GANDY
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Roy Junior Gandy, 54, met his Lord June 11, 2001 at his home in rural Cherokee County. Roy was born September 2, 1946 to Roy Franklin Gandy and Elsie Lee Watts in Tahlequah, Okla. He attended school in Kansas, Okla. and graduated in 1964. He enlisted in the army and served his country in Viet Nam. During his service, he was wounded and received a Purple Heart medal. After being discharged from the services, Roy started driving a truck and drove throughout the United States. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa, and two brothers, Dwayne and Donald Gandy.
He is survived by his wife, Connie, of the home; one son, Mike Gandy of Sharon, Pa.; one daughter, Laurie Gandy of Hubbard, Ohio; mother and father, Roy and Elsie Gandy of Jay, Okla.; one brother, Jack and his wife, Betty Gandy, of Rose, Okla., and an aunt, Esther Henley of Jay, Okla.
The family will be receiving family and friends Tuesday, June 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay.
Services will be Wednesday, June 13, at 10:00 a.m. at the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay. Officiating will be Steve Stench. Interment will be at the Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove, Okla. Services will be under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay.

RUTH F. GELLINGS
MIAMI, Okla. - Ruth F. Gellings, of Miami, died at 1:13 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2001 at the Integris Baptist Regional Health Center after an illness. She was 72. Mrs. Gellings was born March 5, 1929 to Ralph and Hattie Sykes at Elm Hurst, Ill. Mrs. Gellings was a housewife and a homemaker. She was married to the late Robert Eugene Gellings on September 25, 1965, at Chicago, Ill. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1988. She had moved to Miami from Chicago in 1987, and was a member of the Mount Olive Lutheran Church of Miami. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge of Ill., the American Legion Auxiliary of Addison, Ill., a member of the Historical Society of Addison, Ill., and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Miami.
Survivors are: one son, James Gellings, Carolstream, Ill.; one daughter, Nine Johnson, Abingdom, Ill.; three brothers, Raymond Sykes, Ralph Sykes, and Robert Sykes, all of Widel, Ill.; two sisters, Joyce Baughman and Betty Sharon, both of Hammond, Ill., and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 6, at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Kirchhoff officiating. Burial followed in the G.A.R. cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rod Kramer, Josh Mountford, Kent Mountford, Bill Althouse and David Brown.

WILLIE E. GEORGE
GROVE - Willie E. George went to be with her Lord Wednesday, April 25, at her home north of Grove. She was 82. Mrs. George was born October 6, 1918 to John and Bessie McGehee Chenowith at Coplan Switch (north of Grove). She graduated from Grove High School. During her senior year the girl's basketball team won the AAU Championship that took place at Wichita. After graduation, she played on the Women's Professional Basketball League in Galveston, Texas. Mr. George was a member of the Hickory Grove Homemaker's Club and the Hickory Grove Church. She married Everett James George December 1, 1936 at Fairland. One son, Burl George, preceded her in death April 23, 1988.
She is survived by her husband, Everett, of Grove; three daughters, Shirley Keene and husband, Bobby, of Grove, Marilyn Zapponi and husband, Jerry, of Grove, and Carol Cook and husband, Randell, of McAlester; one sister, Maxine Cooper, of Grove; one brother, Ross Chenowith, of Henderson, Nev.; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Hickory Grove Church. Rev. Ron Cross to officiate. Interment will be at the Hickory Grove Cemetery. Family will receive friends at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

GEORGE C. GIBSON
WYANDOTTE, Okla. - George C. Gibson Jr., 37, passed away in his sleep at his home in rural Wyandotte Friday, August 3, 2001. George was born June 2, 1964 to George Gibson Sr. and Anna Dickson in Denver, Colo. George attended Grove schools and his senior year was awarded "Athlete of the Year." George also attended NEO College in Miami, where he was a wrestler. George had an automobile accident in 1986 which permanently disabled him. Despite his disability, George was an avid hunter and fisherman. He belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Grove.
Survivors are: his parents, George and Anna Gibson, of Grove; Justin and Tammy Gibson of Afton, Judy Gibson of Perkins, Okla., James and Samantha Gibson of Perkins, Jeanie Gibson of Stillwater, and John and Christine Douglas of Hamilton, Wash., and four nieces and four nephews.
Graveside services were held Monday, August 6, at 10:30 a.m. at the Dickson Cemetery in Cherokee City. Services were under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel Grove.

GEORGE E. GIBSON
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - George E. Gibson, 92, of Kansas City, Mo., retired attorney, died September 28, 2001 at Kansas City. Graveside service will be held at Olympus Cemetery, Grove, at 10:30 a.m. October 22.
Mr. Gibson was born on August 19, 1909 to Warren D. and Mabel (Faris) Gibson in Grove. He attended Grove schools and the University of Oklahoma where he received a bachelor's degree and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity. He clerked for a Justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court for three years before entering the George Washing ton University Law School in Washington, D.C., where he earned a law degree in 1937. He was a member of Phi Delta Phi law fraternity, served on the Law Review, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. In 1938, Mr. Gibson was employed as an attorney in the Chief Counsel's Office of the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C., and later was a trial lawyer in the IRS District Counsel offices in Chicago, law firm of Stinson, Mag, Thompson, McEvers & Fizzell, where he specialized in the field of tax law. He remained with that firm until his retirement in 1993. His professional affiliations included the Lawyers Association of Kansas City, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, Missouri Bar and American Bar Association. He had also been admitted to the District of Columbia and Oklahoma Bars. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City.
Two brothers, Warren D. Gibson, Jr. and Royal F. Gibson, preceded in him in death. Survivors include his brother, Morris A. Gibson, of Edmond, Okla.; his sister, Helen G. Crawford, Grove; two nephews, four nieces and other relatives.

LOUISE GIBSON
MUSTANG, Okla. - Louise Gibson, age 79, died Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at a Yukon health care facility after a period of failing health. She was born October 9, 1921 in Oilton, Okla., to Bob and Anna Lemons Hill and grew up in the Oilton/Drumright area. She was a graduate of Varnum High School and later attended business college. She was a real estate broker and owned the Merle Norman Salon in Grove. She had been a resident of Mustang for the last nine years and was a member of the Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jacqueline.
Survivors are: one son, Robert Paul Gibson and wife, Rhonda, of Grove; one daughter, Cheryl Roberts and husband, Ken, of Mustang; and two grandchildren, Meredith and Matthew.
Graveside rites were held at noon on Saturday, September 15, at Mt. Olympus Cemetery, Grove. Services were under the direction of McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang.

JACKIE DEAN GLASS
KANSAS, Okla. - Funeral services for Jackie Dean Glass, 45, of Kansas, Okla., will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the Twin Oaks Baptist Church near Kansas, Okla. Burial will follow in The Long Prairie Cemetery. The Rev. Edward Peters and Rev. Albert Robbins will officiate.
Jackie was born October 3, 1956 in Tahlequah, Okla., and died October 12 in Tulsa, Okla. He was the son of John Taylor and Sarah Mae (Houseberg) Glass. He grew up in Kansas, Okla., and attended Kansas schools, graduating from Kansas High School in 1975. He then began college at Northeastern University in Tahlequah, Okla., graduating with a degree in Sociology. He worked for the Jack Brown Treatment Center for a time before starting his career as a placement specialist with Job Corps, which lasted for some 20 years. Jackie was very dedicated to his job and the kids that came through his program. In his spare time he enjoyed playing softball, horseshoes, marbles and supporting his nieces and nephews in their sporting events. Jackie was also an active member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church.
He is survived by four brothers, Jesse Glass and wife, Tina, of Kansas, Okla., Dennis Glass and wife, Sandra, Sanford Glass, and Leonard Glass and wife, Angie, all of Kansas, Okla.; four sisters, Shirley Blackfox, Helen Rabbit and husband, George, Rita Pickup and husband, George, and Barbara Glass, all of Kansas, Okla.; 18 nieces; 11 nephews; 18 great nieces; 10 great nephews. His parents, grandparents, and one sister, Vickie Saubel, preceded him in death.

ALICE (GUESS) GLORY
JAY, Okla. - Alice (Guess) Glory of Jay passed away Monday, October 1, 2001 in Tahlequah, Okla. She was 76.
Mrs. Glory was born March 22, 1925 to Sequoia and Sarah (Sharp) Guess in Delaware County. She was a lifetime area resident and a homemaker. She was a member of the Brush Greek Church. She married Houston Glory in 1967, he preceded her in death in 1992.
Survivors include: one brother, David Guess, Oak Hill; one sister, Della Tanner, Eucha; a special niece, Lena Deere, Tahlequah, and several other nieces and nephews.
Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay with Rev. D.J. McCarter officiating.

GERALD 'JERRY' GOFF
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. - Gerald "Jerry" Goff, 57, a resident of Sierra Vista, Ariz., for the past two years, passed away August 16, 2001 at his home from cancer. He was born in Miami, Okla., January 15, 1944. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mary Lou (Spohn) Goff. Jerry loved music and enjoyed entertaining at the Silver Nugget and Crystal Palace in Tombstone and at the El Cobre in Bisbee, playing his guitar and singing country music.
Survivors are: his wife of 37 years, Esther "Essie" Goff, of Sierra Vista; one son, Luke of Albuquerque, N.M.; one daughter, Angela Lane of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren, Ryan, Sam, and Amanda; two sisters, Diane Simmons of Chandler, Ariz., and Debbie Cardin of Denham Springs, La.; two brothers, David Goff of Ava, Mo., and Mike Goff of Greely, Colo.; and a host of relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami on Sunday, September 16, at 2 p.m. with Darrell Goff officiating.
