Berdena K. May, 99, of Woodburn, died Oct. 26, 2010. She was born June 4, 1911 in Sunnyside, Wash. to Thomas and Edith Bridges-Kerr.
She grew up in the Yakima, Wash. area. She married William May in Yakima on Aug. 16, 1930.
She traveled around the Northwest with her husband, who owned and operated lumber mills, living in Crescent City, Calif., Fresno, Calif., and Grants Pass before settling in Woodburn in 1981.
She worked briefly as a retail store clerk at a hardware store. She attended the Seventh-day Adventist church and she enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening.
She is survived by her son, George “Sonny” May, of Woodburn; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass.

Sparks
Dorothy Sparks, 86, of Woodburn, died Oct. 27, 2010. She was born Jan. 5, 1924 in Topeka, Kan. to Ray and Libbie Erwin.
She retired from U.S. Bank after working for many years in the McMinnville, Newberg and King City branches.
She was a member of the Woodburn United Methodist Church and its various fellowship groups, including United Methodist Women.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, crocheting, spending time with her family and outings.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Gillett Arndt, of Woodburn; sister, Shirley Beach, of Owzawki, Kan.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Reynold Smith, and husband, Dale.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 9 at Woodburn United Methodist Church.
Donations can be made to the Woodburn United Methodist Church in her name.

Walker
Joy (Schimpf) Walker, 68, of Yuma, Ariz., died Oct. 28, 2010. She was born March 21, 1942 in Portland.
She graduated from Woodburn High School in 1960 and was able to attend her 50th class reunion in August.
She married Conrad Falardeau in 1963. She was a homemaker, enjoyed crafts and baking and was an avid bowler. She was also interested in hot rods, motorcycles and classic cars and had an affinity for jewelry.
She worked at the Peppermint Stick in Woodburn and from 1985-93 she worked at Payless in Woodburn.
In November 1993 she married Jim Walker, of Lake Oswego. They traveled around the country and stayed several months in Australia. In 1996 they settled in Yuma.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, of Yuma; son, Brett Falardeau, of Woodburn and two grandchildren.
At her request, no services are planned. Her ashes will be buried at Belle Passi cemetery next August.

Watson
Marjorie M. Watson, 82, of Woodburn, died Oct. 31, 2010. She was born Jan. 8, 1928 in Goodland, Kan.
She worked as an office clerk at a real estate agency in Arizona before moving to Oregon in 1953 and finally to Woodburn in 1986.
She loved her dogs and enjoyed shopping at the Dollar Tree and Walmart.
She is survived by her son, Roy O. Watson Jr., of Woodburn; daughters, Connie M. Tanzer, of Woodburn and Patricia Ann Schell, of Dallas, Ore.
A visitation will be held Nov. 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Simon-Woodburn Funeral Chapel. A graveside funeral service will be held Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. at Mountain View cemetery in Oregon City.

Reed
Virginia K. Reed, 90, of Mt. Angel, died Oct. 28, 2010. She was born Jan. 20, 1920 in Mt. Angel.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her sons, Rocco Leon Reed and Robin Leon Reed; and brother, Laverne Kehoe.
A memorial Mass will be held Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gervais. Interment will be private.
Arrangements by Simon-Woodburn Funeral Chapel.

Massey
Reba R. Massey, 97, of Vancouver, Wash., died Oct. 27, 2010. She was born Dec. 22, 1912 in Thornfield, Mo.
She is survived by eight nieces and nephews.
The family held a private service at Willamette National cemetery on Nov. 3.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Johnston
Charles R. Johnston, 88, of Woodburn, died Oct. 25, 2010. He was born Dec. 21, 1921 in Woodburn to Charles P. and Margaret Johnson-Johnston.
He attended school in Woodburn and enlisted in the Army during World War II.
He married Ellen McCormick in Woodburn on Nov. 9, 1946. The owned a farm for several years before he became a sales representative for FMC Corporation, working in sales of farm chemicals and supplies.
He served on the Woodburn School Board and was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Woodburn.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Woodburn; son, Donald Johnston, of Central Point; daughters, Nancy Johnston, of Los Angeles, Marilyn Amis, M.D., of Santa Monica, Calif., Karen Johnston, of Woodburn, Elaine Bronstein, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Maureen Glenn, of Portland; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Tom, Steve and Michael.
A funeral service was held at Cornwell Colonial Chapel of Woodburn on Oct. 29. Interment was at St. Luke Catholic cemetery in Woodburn.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul or any charity of choice.

Pfaffinger
Edna Pfaffinger, 94, of Woodburn, died Oct. 23, 2010. She was born March 24, 1916 in North Santiam to Hugh and Rosa Kuenzli. She graduated from Salem High School and married Norman Pfaffinger in Stevenson, Wash. on Jan. 1, 1939.
She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening.
She is survived by her brother, Fred Kinsley, of Tigard; sister, Agnes Kinsley; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, in 1982.
A private memorial service was held.

Duda
Vivian G. Duda (Eder), 76, of Gervais, died Oct. 22, 2010. She was born Sept. 22, 1934. She was first and foremost a wife and mother. Her greatest job was taking care of others.
She was the bookkeeper for Sacred Heart Catholic Church and school for over 40 years, all as a volunteer. She also worked at Sacred Heart Catholic School for many years as first the librarian and then as secretary. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Her many offices held included national director. CDA was an important part of her life and her last gift was to donate her brain to OHSU. She wanted to help others not go through Alzheimer’s disease.
Vivian is survived by her husband, Ralph Duda; children, Christine Frank, Greg Duda, Ed Duda and Irene Duda; brother, Andrew Eder; and sisters, Alita Tschantz and Margaret Konold; and four grandchildren.
A rosary was held Oct. 29 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Oct. 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 605 Seventh St. in Gervais. Internment and reception to follow immediately after Mass.
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association .

Dunn
Roberta “Bobbie” Jean Dunn of Mt. Angel died Oct. 24, 2010. She was born July 12, 1950, to Robert and Marjorie (Tressler) Decker in Lima, Ohio. She spent her early childhood in California then moved to Silverton, where she graduated from Silverton High School. She moved away for several years and returned to Mt. Angel in the mid-1970s to be near her parents.
She met Donald Dunn in 1980 and they were married on June 15, 1984.
Bobbie enjoyed working with crafts, including scrapbooking and making greeting cards.
She is survived by her husband Donald; son Eric Reitzer of Mt. Angel; niece Rebecca Belden of Portland and grandnephew Michael Thompson of Mt. Angel, both of whom she helped raise; and one grandson.
A memorial rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 2 and a memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 3, both at St. Mary’s Parish in Mt. Angel.

Miller
Colleen Delores Miller, 84, of Green Valley, Ariz., died Nov. 19, 2010. She was born Jan. 27, 1926 in Sioux Falls, S.D. to Martha Virginia and Joseph Patrick Duffy.
The family moved to Woodburn when she was in high school. After the untimely death of her mother, she raised her younger siblings.
She was a Junior Red Cross volunteer and a telephone operator during World War II. She enjoyed gardening, reading, painting and spending time with her family and friends. She loved adventure and traveled much of the world with her sisters, Donna Bridenhagen and Mary Cary.
After the war, she met and married her husband of 64 years, John T. Miller, of Aurora. They had four children and lived primarily in the Hubbard/Woodburn area throughout their life.
She is survived by her husband, John T. “Pink” Miller; daughters, Virginia Miller Bedell and Dorothy Miller Baker; son, James Zack Miller-Murphy; siblings, Mary Cary and William Duffy; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Miller Gorczewski; sister, Donna Bridenhagen and brother, Joseph T. Duffy.
A funeral Mass was held in Green Valley, Ariz. on Nov. 23 at Our Lady of Green Valley Catholic Church.
A memorial and burial service will be held Nov. 26 at noon at St. Luke Catholic cemetery in Woodburn with a luncheon reception to follow.
