Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Mrs. Margaret C. Lapos

Mrs. Margaret C. Lapos, 85, formerly of 204 W. Ridge St., Lansford, died Tuesday in the Hometown Nursing Center, Tamaqua R.2. She was the widow of Joseph Lapos.

She was an office worker for the former Rosenau Factory, Lansford, many years ago.

Born in Lansford, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Kress) Chuckran.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Lansford, and the St. Ann Society of the church.

Surviving are a sister Martha, wife of Frank Petrash of Coaldale; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Andrew, Frank, Joseph and Michael; and two sisters, Mary Chuckran and Anna Kadak.

The Skrabak-Parambo Funeral Home, 210 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Anna R. Dubosky

Mrs. Anna R. Dubosky, 82, of 370 W. Ridge St., Lansford, died Tuesday in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale. She was the widow of Stephen Dubosky.

She was employed by the former Lansford Sportswear for many years before retiring.

Born in Lansford, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Kolibab) Zuzo.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Lansford.

Surviving are a son Steven of Lansford; a daughter Arlene, wife of Duane Ford of Easton; two brothers, Joseph and Paul, both of Lansford; four sisters, Mary, wife of William DeGraff in Virginia, Margaret Wakefield of Lansford, Agnes, wife of Morris Vaccaro of Summit Hill, and Elizabeth, wife of John Katkovcin of Allentown; and a grandson.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, George, Edward, John, Frank and infant Thomas; and by infant sister Rose.

The Skrabak-Parambo Funeral Home, 210 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, is in charge of the arrangements.

Clifford E. Johnstone

Clifford E. Johnstone, 72, of Saylorsburg R.3, died Monday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Theresa (Brzoza) Johnstone. They were married for 50 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years, retiring as a chief petty officer in 1968. He served in World War II, Korea, the Cuban Blockade and Vietnam.

Later, he worked for Vitro Laboratories, Silver Spring, Md., designing computer systems for missiles until retiring in 1984 and moving to Saylorsburg.

Born in Wallingford, Vt., he was a son of the late James and Catherine (Maranville) Johnstone.

He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Gilbert, where he served as a minister of hospitality.

Johnstone was a 3rd degree Knight of Council 7141, Knights of Columbus, Brodheadsville, and a 4th degree Sir Knight of the Father Butler Assembly No. 980, Stroudsburg.

He also belonged to the National Fleet Reserve Association and the V.F.W. Sullivan Trail Post 5382, Sciota.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, James G. of East Stroudsburg and Christopher of Silver Spring; two daughters, Anne, wife of Thomas W. Jenkins of Lehighton, and Maria, wife of Eric Beasley of Dallas, Tex.; a sister, Dorothy LaPlante of West Pawlet, Vt.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Rt. 209, Gilbert, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Bernadine M. Schu

Mrs. Bernadine M. Schu, 78, of Allentown, died Tuesday in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. She was the widow of Charles L. Schu.

Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of Mrs. Ruth (Schall) Guldin of Allentown and the late Edward Skinner.

The deceased was a member of Jordan Lutheran Church, Orefield.

She was a treasurer of the Clifford Park Senior Citizens, Allentown; a past president of the Woodlawn Fire Company Auxiliary; a former neighborhood chairwoman of the Greater Lehigh Valley Girl Scout Council, Allentown; and a member of the Lehigh County Board of Elections for more than 30 years.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a son, Robert E. Bleam Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter Cheryl, wife of Kevin M. McGee of Walnutport; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Joseph A. Stinner Jr.

Joseph A. Stinner Jr., 85, of Allentown, died Monday in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Catherine A. (Kraynick) Stinner. They observed their 36th wedding anniversary last September.

He owned the former S & G Cafe, Allentown, for 28 years before retiring in 1979, and previously had been a brewery worker for the former Neuweiler Brewery, Allentown, for 13 years.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Joseph A. Sr. and Mary (Wentling) Stinner.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Allentown.

Stinner was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 576 and Greenleaf Lodge No. 561, both of Allentown.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters, Justine, wife of Gene Walters of Louisville, Ky., and Catherine A., wife of Michael Chies of Palmerton; a sister, Helen Geiger of Allentown; and 14 grandchildren.

Mrs. Josephine M. Gurski

Mrs. Josephine M. Gurski, 79, formerly of Delaware Heights, Phillipsburg, N.J., died Monday in the Warren Hospital in New Jersey. She was the widow of Edwin G. Gurski.

Born in New Boston, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Mary Syzdek.

She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.

Surviving are two sons, Ed of Ringwood, N.J., and Steve of Pohatcong Township, N.J.; two brothers, Walter of Frackville and Frank of Barnesville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Edward H. Cook

Edward H. Cook, 67, of 24 S. White St., Shenandoah, a former Schuylkill County commissioner, died Monday in his home. He was the husband of Virginia (Dallazia) Cook. They were married for 45 years.

He served as chairman of the board of commissioners from 1976-84.

He was also the proprietor of H.F. Cook, Inc., Shenandoah, until 1985, and was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Labory and Industry between 1986-96.

Born in Shenandoah, he was a son of the late Harry and Evelyn Cook.

He was a graduate of the former Shenandoah Catholic High School and attended the University of Scranton.

Cook was a member of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Phoenix Fire Company and the Archery Club, all of Shenandoah; the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Schuylkill County Chapter; Six-County Firemens Association; and was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus.

He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce and past chairman of the Republican Party, both of Shenandoah; and a member of the executive committee of the Schuylkill County Repoublican Party.

Surviving in addition to his widow are three sons, Robert of Shenandoah, Edward Jr. of Severna Park, Md., and Atty. Stephen of Hummelstown; a daughter, Kelly Cook-Marcagave of Collegeville; a brother James of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four granddaughters and nieces and nephews.

Andrew G. Jacobs

Andrew George Jacobs, 81, of 3329 Nightingdale Drive, Dover, York County, died Tuesday in the York Hospital.

The Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, is in charge of the arrangements.

Micheal J. Behun

Micheal John Behun, 35, of Chattanooga, Tenn., died Saturday in Chatanooga.

He was the son of Joseph and Monica Behun of Tamaqua.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Teresa, wife of Todd Mertz of Tamaqua; two brothers, Joseph IV, of Park Place, Barnesville, and Matthew of Hamburg; a niece and a nephew.

Services were held in Tennessee.

Gregg Signor

Gregory "Gregg" Signor, 60, of Emporium, died Friday (Aug. 6, 2006) in his home.

Mr. Signor was born May 15, 1946, in Emporium to Kenneth and Vera Signor. On Aug. 8, 1970, in Bradford, he married Judy Henderson. He later married Joni Moore of Bradford, who survives.

He graduated from Emporium Area High School in 1964. He lived in Medicine Lodge, Kan., for 15 years, after which he returned to Emporium in 1994.

Mr. Signor worked as a fireman for the City of Bradford prior to his move to Kansas.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Dara Signor of Bradford; and his grandchildren, Ellery and Mitchell Signor of Lodi, Ohio. His niece, Rebecca and nephew, Jonathan Signor of Ohio, also survive.

Mr. Signor was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made to the Bradford City Fire Department, SPCA or Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems.

Funeral arrangements, under the direction of the Coppersmith Condon Funeral Home, were incomplete at press time.

Pauline Beeson

Pauline D. Beeson, 74, of 324 W. Fourth St., Apt 208, died Monday (Aug. 7, 2006) at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys.

She was born July 19, 1932, in Crosby, to Paul and Ethel Hurd Weidert.

She retired from the Guy and Mary Felt Manor, where she worked for more than 10 years. She also worked at Sylvania for several years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Uber of Brookville; a stepson, Roy Beeson of Tennessee; a sister Joanne Smith of Emporium; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepson, Thomas Beeson; and a sister, Fannie Weidert.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 East Fourth St., with Rev. Dwight Simpson, pastor of the Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Mary Benedict

Mary Patricia Benedict, 69, of 119 Carson St., died Tuesday (Aug. 8, 2006) at the Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys.

She was born May 28, 1937, in Ridgway to Bernard and Rose V. Bauer Brennan. On Oct. 4, 1958, in St. Mark Catholic Church, she married Donald Benedict, who survives.

She graduated from Cameron County High School, class of 1955. Years ago, she worked at Bernie's Tavern as a waitress and a cook. She also worked at Penn Vend preparing food and later at Sheetz Convenience Store until she became ill.

She was a member of the St. Mark Catholic Church and had been in the choir.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Andrew Benedict of Boothbay Harbor, Maine; Paul Benedict of Sterling Run; and Michael Benedict of Corry; two grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Guisto of Emporium; Margaret Summerson of Emporium; and Terri Patrazio of Moneta, Va.; and a brother, Michael Brennan or New Bloomfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thurs. at the Barnett Funeral Home Inc., where a vigil service was held. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Mark Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul S. Siebert as celebrant. Burial was in St. Mark Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Barbara Brown Moscato Memorial Library, to the Cameron County Ambulance Association or to St. Mark Catholic Church.

Bill Gennocro

William (Bill) F. Gennocro, of Houston, died (Friday, Aug. 4, 2006) in the Washington Hospital, following a six-month battle with cancer.

Born May 24, 1929 in Emporium, he was a son of Angelo and Michela Fragale Gennocro. He graduated from Emporium High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree (Business) from Indiana University of PA, and a Master's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

On Aug. 23, 1952, in St. Patrick Church, he married Catherine Arnone, who survives. Mr. Gennocro taught one year at Canonsburg High School, followed by 35 years as an accountant for several corporations including: RCA, McGraw Edison, Universal Cyclops and Falconi Enterprises.

He was a member of St. Patrick Church, Knights of Columbus #3291, Social member of American Legion Post 902, Washington County Italian American Association, Sons of ItalyLodge 758 and National Italian American Foundation, and the Jefferson College Historical Society, Canonsburg.

Bill enjoyed golfing, belonging to Dogwood Acres, Couples at Chippewa, and former member of Washington Country Club. He also enjoyed bowling in Route 19 Sr. Citizens League and Knights of Columbus (SNPJ). He was a volunteer at Canonsburg Hospital.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a sister, Anna Guisto of Emporium; a brother, Joseph (Shorty) Gennocro of West Seneca, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Anthony, James and John; and a sister, Jenny Tittio.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday (Aug. 8) at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Canonsburg. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery.
