Sarah L. Kulp

July 12, 1998

Sarah L. Kulp of Plumstead Township, died Sunday in the Doylestown Hospital. She was 75 and the beloved wife of Oscar W. Kulp for 52 years.

Born in Hilltown Township, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Grace M. Loux Grass. She was a 1941 graduate of Doylestown High School.

Sarah had resided in Plumsteadville for the past 2 years and previously lived in Stroudsburg for 16 years and had lived in Edison, Doylestown Township since the early 1940's.

She had worked in the Kutz School for 16 years as a teacher's aid.

Sarah was a member of the Pleasant Valley Choral Society and the Mineola Grange #1453. She attended Palisades Community Bible Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Robert D. Kulp of Fountainville; a daughter, Linda Elsner of Doylestown; two sisters , Althea M. Grass and Martha Tomlinson, both of Doylestown; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral service Thursday, 1:30 p.m. at the Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington. Friends will be received Thursday from 12 noon until the service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Hilltown Baptist Cemetery.

If desired, memorials in Sarah's name may be sent to the Palisades Community Bible Church, 8730 Easton Road, P. O. Box 81, Revere, PA 18953.

Charles M. Fries

July 11, 1998

Charles M. Fries, 93 of Tannersville died Saturday at the home of his daughter Jean Mulholland with whom he was residing. He was the widower of Teresa (Hesch) Fries who died in 1987.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles and Anna Mae (McAleer) Fries, Sr. He was living in Tannersville for the past 9 years and prior to that he had lived in the Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Philadelphia areas.

He was a retired printer having worked for the W.T. Armstrong Co. of Philadelphia for 30 years retiring in 1971. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church of Tannersville and was a Knight of Columbus, Philadelphia Council.

He is survived by 4 daughters , Theresa White house of Greentown, Veronica Desai of Richboro, Catherine Bock of Mesa, Ariz., and Jean Mulholland of Tannersville; 3 sons , Carl Fries of Germantown, Md., Joseph Fries of Sterling Junction, Mass., and John Fries of Long Beach, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Tannersville with the Rev. Henry E. Zapotocki as celebrant. Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

Rita Catherine Lynn

July 11, 1998

Rita Catherine (Schwoyer) Lynn, 81, of East Stroudsburg, died Saturday in the Slate Belt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Bangor. Employed earlier in life at the former Woolworth Company in Easton, she also was employed at Buck Hill Falls Resort, Buck Hill Falls.

Born in Bally, November 2, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Elias S. and Mary (Mutter) Schwoyer. She was of the Catholic faith.

She is survived by three sons , Robert P. of Nazareth, Richard D. of Tyrone, N.M. and Victor Capone Jr. of Minisink Hills; and seven grandsons.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Parry.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Schmidt Home, Inc., 202 West Street, Wind Gap with calling hours Wednesday, 10 a.m. to the time of the service at the funeral home. Internment will take place at Wind Gap Cemetery, Wind Gap.

Susan Kathleen Hale Belvin, 50, of Tannersville, died on Monday at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, N.J.

Born in Plainfield, she resided in Edison and Toms River before moving to Tannersville 11 years ago.

She was a graduate of Metuchen High School and Georgian Court College in Lakewood. She taught Kindergarten in Westfield in 1971.

She was a member of Cherry Lane Methodist Church, Tannersville, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Susan was head volunteer coordinator in the Pocono Mountains School District PTO and teacher in the Head Start program in 1993-94.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry L.; a son, Jerrod at home; a daughter, Bonnie at home; a step daughter Keri of Brick, N.J.; her parents, Richard M. and Ruth Westcott Hale of Edison, N.J.; three brothers , Robert W. Hale of Metuchen, N.J., Scott V. Hale of Jutland, N.J., and Greg R. Hale of Elizabeth, Colo.

Services will take place Thursday 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen, 170 Woodbridge Avenue, Metuchen, N.J.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave., Route 27, Metuchen, N.J.

Raymond P. Jones

July 12, 1998

Raymond P. Jones, 77, of Cresco, died Sunday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Beatrice A. (Rembecki) Jones, to whom he had been married for 50 years.

Born on April 19, 1921, in Canadensis, he was the son of the late Samuel L. and Catherine M. (Hoke) Jones and had lived in the area all of his life. He had worked as a chef for the Barrett High School and for Buck Hill Falls; was bookkeeper for J.A. Reinhardt, Canadensis; assistant superintendent of highways for PennDOT and was the Barrett Township tax collector for 28 years, retiring in 1994.

A graduate of Barrett High School, he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Evans-Blitz Post 922 American Legion, Canadensis, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1106, Stroudsburg.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Paul G. Jones of Cresco, Raymond T. Jones of Mesa, Ariz., Richard J. Jones of State College, Ronald J. Jones of Long Pond, Cynthia A. Hartman of Albany, N.Y., David J. Jones of Hop Bottom, and Christine M. Jones of Williamsport; a sister, Catherine "Kit" Somers of Stroudsburg; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, , with the Rev. George Alt officiating.

Cremation will follow in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Barrett Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Box 105, Cresco, PA 18326.

July 12, 1998

Russell O. Hilton, 75, of Stroudsburg died Sunday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Doris S. (Robinson) Hilton, at home.

Born on June 4, 1923, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Trainer and Hanna (Cooper) Hilton and had lived in the area for the past forty years. He had worked in maintenance at the East Stroudsburg University for seventeen years, retiring in 1985.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Christian Life Assembly, Stroudsburg; the Gideon Masonic Lodge #145, Stroudsburg; Past district lecture for the 9th Masonic District; Past Vice President of the NAACP, Monroe County Branch; member of the NAACP, Allentown, and a former member of the Monroe County Park and Recreation Board.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three stepdaughters, Victoria Mendez of Bethlehem, Anna Cannion of Philadelphia, and Paulett Strand of Williamstown, N.J.; a stepson, Albert Owens of Tobyhanna; a sister, Ruth Robinson of Philadelphia; nine grandchildren; one great grandson and many nieces and nephews.

Masonic services will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. followed by religious services conducted by Rev. John Puleo at 2 p.m. at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, . Burial will be in the Stroudsburg Cemetery.

There will be a viewing on Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert F. Clark, 51, of East Stroudsburg, died on Monday, at his home.

He was born in Connecticut. He had been a resident of East Stroudsburg since 1988 and prior to that a resident of Key Largo and Clearwater, Florida.

He was presently employed in the maintenance department of the Pocono Medical Center for the past 10 years.

He is survived by a friend, Margy A. Wilson of East Stroudsburg.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 4 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with Rev. Sherrie Sneed officiating.

Interment will be in the Middle Smithfield Presbyterian Cemetery, Middle Smithfield Township. There will be a closed casket visitation on Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of the services at Lanterman & Allen.

Because Bob felt that the Pocono Medical Center was his family and because of his love for children, it is requested that memorial donations may be made to the Pocono Medical Center Pediatric Unit, 206 East Brown Street, East Stroudsburg.

Harry "Ed" Gaige

July 13, 1998

Harry "Ed" Gaige, 71, of Tobyhanna, died Monday at home. He was the husband of the former Eleanor Chesebro.

Born in Altamont, N.Y., he was the son of the late Harry L. and Ismay (Watson) Gaige. He was a veteran of WWII, having served as a corporal in the United States Army. After serving in the U.S. Army, he was employed by the U.S. Government eventually being transferred to the Tobyhanna Army Depot. He retired from the U.S. Government Service after thirty-eight years. He was past post commander of VFW Boyd-Hilton Post and the American Legion Helderberg, Post 977, both of Altamont, N.Y.

In addition to his wife, Eleanor, he is survived by three sons , Jerry of Tobyhanna, Dennis of Cresco, and Mel of Mt. Pocono. He is also survived by one brother, Wayne Gaige of Schenectady; two grandchildren, Corrin and Janis Gaige, both of Tobyhanna; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James of Altamont, N.Y.

Private funeral services are being held at the convenience of the family.

Edward D. Gearhart

July 14, 1998

Edward D. Gearhart, age 53, of Kresgeville, died Tuesday at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg.

He was the husband of Felicity (Dilley) Gearhart. They had been married 27 years.

Born in Easton, he was the son of the late Ivan and Mary (Kennedy) Gearhart.

He had owned and operated the Mt. Bethel Beef Butcher Shop in Mt. Bethel until 1981.

In addition to his wife, Felicity, he is survived by 3 daughters , Michelle wife of James Yocum of Kresgeville, Amy Gearhart and Faith Gearhart, both at home; 2 sons , Paul and Patrick Gearhart, both at home; 5 brothers , Ivan Gearhart of Saylorsburg, Quintin Gearhart of Gilbert, Robert Gearhart of Silverdale, Washington , Harvey Gearhart of Murietta, Calif., and Walter Gearhart of Cresco; 4 sisters , Marjorie wife of Joseph "Tuck" Woodrow of Scotrun, Catherine wife of Carl Stengal of Scotrun, Sandra wife of Richard Courtright of Neola, and Dorothy wife of Tim Stem of Cresco; and 6 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Inc., Route 209, Gilbert, with the Rev. Elaine Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Cherry Valley "Kellers' Cemetery, RD 1, Stroudsburg. Viewing will be 9 a.m. Thursday until the time of the services at the Funeral Home.

Olga R. Terhune

July 13,1998

Olga R. (Futerko) Terhune, 83, of Pocono Lake, died Monday after an illness. She was the widow of John J. Terhune, who died in 1984.

Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Gregory and Pauline (Seniak) Futerko. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Metropolitan Life, N.Y.C.

She is survived by three sons , John M.. of Hershey, Michael of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Greg of Pocono Manor; and one daughter, Helen O'Brien of Pocono Pines. Also surviving are two sisters , Helen Boinay of Long Island, N.Y., and Sophie Schotler of the Bronx, N.Y.; sixteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Olga was preceded in death by her daughter, Edna M.; two brothers , Michael Futerko and William Futerko; and one sister, Stella Gress.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the James M. Hook & Co., Funeral Directors, 35 Sterling Road, Mt. Pocono.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, Pocono Lake, Fr. John Boyle will officiate. Interment immediately following at Pocono Lake Cemetery, Pocono Lake.
