Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

EDITH BOTT

Edith Bott, 98, a former resident of Anthracite Apartments, Pittston died Sunday at the Highland Manor Nursing Home, Exeter.

Born in West Wyoming, she was the daughter of the late James and Virginia Mangoni Bott.

Before her retirement she was employed as a sewing machine operator at MK Manufacturing Company, Wyoming.

She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, West Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by her brothers , Ernest, Albert and Peter Bott; Louis, Oliver and Victor Marino; and sisters , Lena Goble and Eleanor Coolbaugh.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Frank A. Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Sorrows Church.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, Kingston Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

GEORGE BOWALICK

George J. Bowalick, formerly of Kingston, died Sunday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late John and Matrona Bowalick.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Before retirement, he was employed at Bonner Chevrolet.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church, Edwardsville, and American Legion Post 395, Kingston.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, in 1997; brothers , Michael and Theodore; sisters , Anna Figler and Mary Tvorak.

Surviving are his son, Gregory, Nanticoke; brother, Andrew, Wilkes-Barre; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday from the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church, Edwardsville.

Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Pringle.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Parastas service will be at 8 p.m. today with the Rev. Michael Slovesko officiating.

Frances Bowen

April 19, 1998

Frances A. Bowen, 85, formerly of West Hazleton, died Sunday at the Annaburg Manor, Manassas, Va. after a lengthy illness.

She was born in West Pittston.

Prior to retiring and moving to the Manassas area, she was employed as a receptionist in Dr. Stanley Yamulla's office.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Bowen, in 1991; brothers and sisters Joseph, Sam, Madelyn Krusciewicz and Anna Daileda.

Surviving are children Mrs. David (Margaret) Rapach, Fairfax, Va.; Richard, Manassas, Va.; Mary Frances, California; brothers and sisters Mary Makalusky, Clarks Summit, Evelyn Alise, New Jersey; John, West Pittston; Peter, Belfont; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home Inc., 542-544 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in SS. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton.

Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call on 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

BOWER, ANTOINETTE

October 29, 1999

Antoinette "Toni" (Ciavarella) Bower, formerly of Park Avenue Towers, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Rosina Leone Ciavarella.

She was a member of the 1944 graduating class of GAR High School.

She was employed at Tele-Radio, Wilkes-Barre Township. Several years later she was employed in the garment industry, first at Broksea's and later at Rosemar Manufacturing, both in Wilkes-Barre.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Bower Sr.; sisters , Florence O'Brien and Lena Marino; brothers , Michael and Gerald Ciavarella; and grandson, James J. Bower III.

Surviving are her son, James J. Bower Jr., with whom she resided; brothers , Mark Ciavarella, Wilkes-Barre; Joseph Ciavarella, Hanover Township; sisters , Yolanda Ciavarella and Rose Lewis, both of Wilkes-Barre; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Walter W. Lisman and Son Funeral Home, 233 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception.

Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Boylan, Patrick

February 8, 2000

Patrick J. Boylan, of Silver Spring, Md., died Feb. 8.

Formerly of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Patrick J. and Nellie S. (Barrett) Boylan.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Leahy Boylan, formerly of Scranton; sons , Patrick, Cape May, N.J.; and Richard, Mount Airy, Md.; one grandson; brother, Robert, Cherry Hill, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph A.; and sisters , Katherine Hussie, Helen MacDonald and Isabelle McNamara.

Funeral services were from the Francis J. Collins Funeral Home, Inc., Silver Spring, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, Silver Spring. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Bozentka, Edward

March 8, 2000

Edward J. Bozentka, 81, formerly of North Empire Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born Sept. 21, 1918, in Wilkes-Barre Township, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Walega) Bozentka. He was a 1936 graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School. He was an US Army veteran of World War II. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with five bronze stars. He worked for the US Postal Service, Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post 558, Plains Township.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Cecelia Byczek; brothers , Michael, James and Alexander; sisters , Edith Danowski and Betty DePasquale.

Surviving are his daughters , Lorraine Cook, Plains Township; Barbara McDade, Pittston; four Grandchildren; brothers , Mitchell, Baltimore; Herman, Wilmington, Del.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Nicholas Church Renovation Fund.

Sophia Brelick

May 15, 1998

Sophia Brelick, 76, of Monumental Road, Dundalk, Md., formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at the Church Hospital, Baltimore, Md.

Born in the Breslau section of Hanover Township on March 13, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Sophia and Wasil Brelick.

She attended the Hanover Township schools.

She has resided in Dundalk 52 years where she was employed as an inspector by Bethlehem Steel Corporation prior to retiring.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Irene Johnson, of Dundalk; a brother, Joseph, of Florida.

Surviving are a sister, Helen Gallagher, Mountaintop; Anne Burnett, Detroit, Mich.; brother, Michael, Lady Lake, Fla.; many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday from Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Dundalk, with the Rev. Richard E. Parks officiating.

Interment was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Dundalk.

Funeral arrangements by the Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, 7922 Wise Ave., Dundalk.

Madeline Brennan

May 24, 1998

Madeline Brennan, of Jackson Road, Shavertown, died Sunday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

She was born in New York City and lived in Nanticoke. She also resided in Lehman Township for the past 24 years.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke.

She was formerly employed by the Irem Temple Country Club, Dallas, until her retirement several years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on April 11, 1997.

Surviving are a son, Scott, of Lehman Township; step-sons Frank, Trucksville; Joseph, Edwardsville; step- daughters Barbara Kaleta, Hudson; Rita Krantz, Pittston; Elizabeth Garber, Philadelphia; brother Nicholas Vlastaris, Wilkes-Barre; ten grandchildren; five great-children.

Funeral services will be 9:15 a.m. Wednesday from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, Hanover Street, Nanticoke.

Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Nanticoke.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Brennan, Patrick

April 16, 2000

Patrick T. Brennan, of Rice Avenue, Edwardsville, died Sunday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Pringle, he was a son of the late John and Carrie (Dalious) Brennan. He worked for Muskin Pools, Wilkes-Barre. He was past president of the Edwardsville Hill Club.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Butler.

Surviving are his wife, the former Gail Pasternak; daughter, Shirley Yanovich, Harveys Lake; son, Pat Jr., Inkerman, Jenkins Township; brother, Robert Brennan, Courtdale; sister, Ellen Tomczak, Dallas; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with the Rev. Theodore Krepp officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

JULIA BRESSLER

April 25, 1999

Julia M. Bressler, of Cliff Street in Pittston, died Sunday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, following an illness.

Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Madeline (Mazeika) Kurtinitus.

She was a graduate of Pittston High School and a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Church in Pittston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Clair; son, Elwood Leonard; sisters , Jean and Margaret; brothers , John, Andrew, Adam, Peter and Joseph.

Surviving are sons , Charles, Duryea; James, Yatesville; John, Taylor; daughters , Jean, Pittston; Elaine, Maryland; brother, Charles, Michigan; sister, Ann Libero, Pittston; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Paul F. Leonard Funeral Home, 575 N. Main St., Pittston, with Mass at noon in St. Mary Help of Christians Church.

Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton, Kingston Township.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
