Birth, Cindy

February 15, 2000

Cindy L. Birth, 39, of East Butler Street, Shickshinny, died Tuesday at home. She was in ill health for the past two years.

Born March 22, 1960, in Kingston, she was a daughter of Roseann (Cope) McLaughlin, of Shickshinny, and the late Harold E. McLaughlin. She was a 1978 graduate of Northwest Area High School and was a pharmacy technician at CVS Pharmacy, Shickshinny. She was a member of the Shick-Shawnee Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star; the Board of Directors for the American Youth Soccer Organization; and the First Presbyterian Church of Shickshinny, where she was a deacon, organist and flower chairwoman. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader for 20 years.

Surviving, in addition to her mother , are her husband, Randy, whom she married Oct. 18, 1980; daughters , Natalie and Stephanie, both at home; brother, Charles, and sister, Debbie Kishbaugh, both of Shickshinny.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday from the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., Shickshinny. Interment will be in Sorber Cemetery, Reyburn. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Blakeslee, Loretta

March 7, 2000

Loretta Blakeslee, 69, formerly of Scott Street, East End section of Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday.

Born July 7, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Laubaugh) Cannon. She was educated at Coughlin High School. She worked in the garment industry for many years, primarily for Cohen-Fein Co. She was a member of Holy Saviour Church, Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J.; grandson, Kevin Donton; sisters , Jean Smith; Joan Morio; Kathleen Cannon; Anna Leshinsky; and Helen Cavany; brothers , Paul; Cornelius and Edward Cannon.

Surviving are her daughters , Kathleen Raub, Trucksville; Joan Donton, Greentown; Tressa Schwartz, Mountaintop; son, Donald J. Blakeslee, Wilkes-Barre; seven grandchildren; sisters , Mary Ayer, Gettysburg; Marjorie Yanchuk, Bound Brook, N.J.; Patricia Rundle, Wilkes-Barre; and brothers , John Cannon, Wilkes-Barre.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Saviour Church. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Make A Wish Foundation, Courthouse Square Towers, Suite 450, 16 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702; or to the Ronald McDonald House of Danville, P.O. Box 300, Danville, 17821-0300.

Blandford, Helen

March 3, 2000

Helen (Shain) Blandford, 91, of Leesport, Pa., formerly of Kingston, died Friday at the Berks Heim Annex.

Born in Riverton, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Heiskell and Lilly (Nickles) Shain.

She was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Kingston.

She was preceded in death by her son, John N.

Surviving are her daughter, Helen B. Kennedy, with whom she last resided; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services and interment will be private.

Arrangements are by the Milkins Funeral Home Inc., Temple, Pa.

ELIZABETH BLAZES

Elizebeth A. (Ofsenka) Blazes, 91, of Weir Street in Wilkes-Barre died Monday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, after an illness.

Born in the Brookside section of Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Dobrowolska) Ofsenka.

She attended Wilkes-Barre schools and was a lifelong resident the city.

She was employed as a material inspector for the Duplan Silk Mill and Hess & Goldsmith Co. in Wilkes-Barre, until her retirement.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; sisters , Catherine, and Agnes Kotka; and brother, Jacob.

Surviving are her sons , John J., Wilkes-Barre; and William G., Maryland; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark St., Plains Township, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in the Carverton section of Kingston Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

BLOCKUS, JACOB

October 17, 1999

Jacob Louis Blockus, 18, of Krych Street, Kingston, died Sunday morning at a friend's home.

Born July 6, 1981, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, he was a son of the late Bernard L. Blockus Jr. and the honorable Carmella M. Blockus.

He resided at Krych Street for all of his life.

He was formerly a student, football player, and a wrestler at Wyoming Valley West.

He was preceded in death by his Father , Bernard L. Blockus Jr.; grandfather, Bernard L. Blockus Sr.; grandmother, Laurelda Fox Blockus; and grandfather, Samuel C. LaBrutte.

Surviving are his mother , Carmella M. Blockus, Kingston; a brother, Joshua B. Blockus, Pittston; sister, Carmella J. Blockus, Kingston; grandmother, Dolores LaBrutte, Pittston; godmother, Mary Lou Callaio, Pittston; godfather, MSGT. Nicholas C. LaBrutte, Langley Air Force Base, Va.

Funeral services will be at 10:15 a.m. Thursday from A.J. Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pittston, with the Rev. Russell Kerns Sr. officiating.

Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Hughestown.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

BOLINSKY, HENRY

October 20, 1999

Henry E. Bolinsky, of Pulaski Street in Kingston, died Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

A lifelong resident of Kingston, he was the son of the late Edward and Blanche (Rushefski) Bolinsky. He was a 1942 graduate of Kingston High School.

During World War II, he served with the Merchant Marines and was also self-employed as a photographer.

He was employed by Kanarr Metal Works in Kingston until its closing, and by Muskin Pool in Wilkes-Barre, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of St. Hedwig's Church in Kingston. He was honored as a 36-year member of Independent Fire Co. No. 1 of Kingston.

He was preceded in death by his brothers , Ralph, Joseph and Donald Bolinski.

Surviving are his wife, the former Janette Czarniak; daughters , Andrea Kindred, Swoyersville; and Susan Yuhas, Mountain Lake; son, Henry, Jr., Jermyn; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Bolinski, Kingston; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Hedwig's Church. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in the Carverton section of Kingston Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Hedwig's Church, or to Geisinger Children's Hospital, 100 Academy Ave., Danville, 17822.

Bogdon, Claire

April 14, 2000

Claire (Wendorff) Bogdon, 73, of Fairless Hills, died April 14 at Frankford Hospital, Bucks County Campus.

She was born in Plymouth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; and son, Robert.

Surviving are her sister, Irene Wendorff; brother, Clarence Wendorff; four grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Services were held privately. Funeral arrangements were by the Beck/Givnish Funeral Home, 7400 New Falls Road, Levittown.

Mary Boice

May 23, 1998

Mary T. Boice, 79, of Dallas, died Saturday at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, where she was a guest for the last two years.

Born in Larksville, Sept. 14, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Antonina Wojta Sefick.

She resided in Kingston for most of her life and in Rochester, N.Y., before moving to Dallas in 1988.

She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Boice, in 1996; brothers George Sefick, Adam Sefick and Martin Sefick; great-grandson, Jason Sager.

Surviving are her step-daughter, Donna Walker, Gaithersburg, Md.; step-son, Harry E. Boice, Murrells Inlet, S.C.; sister, Nellie Rinken, Idetown; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of Routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake.

Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.

Friends may call 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

KOSINSKI, ZIGMUND

October 29, 1999

Zigmund Bolish Kosinski, 90, formerly of West Enterprise Street, Glen Lyon, Newport Township, died Friday at the Davis Nursing Home, Mountaintop.

Funeral arrangements are pending from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon.

Borichevsky, Matuskha Mary

March 4, 2000

Matushka Mary (Slava) Borichevsky, 77, of Lake Ariel, died Saturday at her home.

Born Jan. 20, 1923, in Bolivar, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Michael Vasily and Katherine (Krupa) Slava.

She and her late husband, Archpriest Vladimir Borichevsky, served in numerous Orthodox Churches, including parishes in Trenton, N.J., Philadelphia and locally at St. Tikhon's Orthodox Seminary, South Canaan. She performed many services to the community, including the design and tailoring of church vestments and altar cloths.

Surviving are her sons , Sergei, Chalfont; Boris, Hatboro; Paul, Media; Gregory, Doylestown; and Michael, San Francisco, daughters , Irina, San Francisco; Kristina Giannone, Philadelphia; Tamara, Oakland, Calif.; and Anastasia, Ellicott City, Md.; 18 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; sisters , Olga Wroblewski, Trenton, N.J.; and Katherine Lasser, Hamilton Township, N.J.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Tikhon of Zadonsk Orthodox Monastery Church, South Caanan, with His Eminence, Archbishop Herman officiating.

Interment will be in St. Tikhon of Zadonsk Orthodox Cemetery, South Caanan.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Parastas services will be at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Marks Orthodox Church, 452 Durham Road, Wrightstown, Pa. 18940.

Arrangements are by the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Plains Township.
