James Green

FORT MILL - Mr. James Cramer Green, 81, of 403 Harris St. died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert C. Monson officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Wadley, Ga., Mr. Green was a son of the late James Reuben Green and Bertha Laney Green. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 43. Mr. Green retired from Springs Industries as a supervisor and instructor. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, a Mason and member of the Catawba Masonic Lodge, and was a Shriner and member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple.

Surviving are his wife, Veola Spakes Green; his son, Jimmy Green of Moncks Corner; two sisters, Lucille Wilson of Indian Land and Leona Watts of Fort Mill; two grandchildren; and two great - grandchildren.

Masonic Rites will be 6:30 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight and other times at the home.

Felix Harris

SURFSIDE BEACH - Mr. Felix Pershing Harris, 81, of Surfside Beach, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, Wilmington, N.C., with the Rev. Haywood Fowler officiating. Burial will be at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

A native of Whitmire, Mr. Harris was a son of the late Paul Harris and Sibbie Wright Harris. He served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was an active member of Glen Bay Baptist Church of Surfside Beach and the Sea Side Lodge No. 419 A.F.&M. Masonic Lodge where he was a past Master and Treasurer. He was a member of the York Rite Bodies and of the Myrtle Beach Commandery No. 22. He was awarded the Title of KYCH.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Harris; two sons, Paul F. Harris and John P. Harris, both of the home; and two sisters, Nelle Harris Schibelka of Rock Hill and Lockee Harris Becknelle of Spartanburg.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. today at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.

Arthur Parker

YORK - Mr. W. Arthur Parker, 69, of 305 Parker Road died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at King's Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church in York, with the Rev. Paul Ballard officiating and the Rev. Ted Cole III assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York, Mr. Parker was a son of the late James R. Parker and Eula Clinton Parker. He was a retired construction worker.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Childers Parker; two sons, Marshall Parker of York and Allen Parker of Gastonia, N.C.; two daughters, Cynthia O'Neal of York and Renee Jenkins of Clover; his brother, Samuel Brice Parker of York; four sisters, Louise Bailey, Oneida Propst and Hazel Brown, all of York, and Ruth Williams of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren and five great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Mary Wood

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Greig Wood, 78, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Revs. Tim McClendon and Michael Ritter officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Charleston, Mrs. Wood was a daughter of the late John Henry Minnis and Isabelle McIntosh Minnis. She was a homemaker and member of the St. John's United Methodist Church in Rock Hill where she was active in the choir, Sunday School and the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are her son, Dwight Wood of Rock Hill; two daughters, Joyce Wood of Anderson and Susan Wood Cohen of Charleston; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the St. John's United Methodist Church Choral Dept., 321 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Guy Cook

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mr. Guy Cook, 88, of 2107 Dove Tree Lane died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Milton Key officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Cook was the son of the late Walter Cook and Irene Cook. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, a trustee, and a member of the gospel choir and the hymn choir. He was employed at Coleman and Cockers Machine Shop before his retirement. He was a member of Zimri Cook Masonic Lodge and was a member of Bradford Heights Community Watch.

Surviving are his wife, Blanch Cook; his daughter, Myrtice Barnwell of Gastonia; four sons, Marvin Cook, Alfred Cook, Perry Cook and Anthony Cook, all of Gastonia; six brothers, Joseph Cook and Freddie Cook, both of Gastonia, Lawson Alexander of Rock Hill, Theodore Cook of Rhode Island, W.J. Cook of Baltimore and Charles Cook of San Francisco; three sisters, Dorothy Jenkins of Washington, D.C., and Wilma Adams and Ruby Petty of Gastonia; seven grandchildren; and two great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Martin's Funeral Home is in charge.

Guy Godwin

GREELEYVILLE - Mr. Guy M. Godwin, 67, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, in Florence.

The graveside service will be 4 p.m. today in Lee Cemetery.

A native of Florence County, Mr. Godwin was a son of the late Page G. Godwin Sr. and Mattie McCutcheon Godwin. He was a graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor's degree in engineering and had graduate degrees in math and school administration from The Citadel. He was a retired school administrator for Williamsburg County schools. He also was a farmer. He was a member of Greeleyville United Methodist Church, where he was chairman of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and was a Sunday school teacher.

Surviving are his wife, Dixie Burch Godwin; two daughters, Cindy McClendon of Rock Hill and Guyeth Nash of Rome, Ga.; three brothers, Page Godwin, Ray Godwin and Sandy Godwin, all of Lake City; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. today at Brockington Funeral Home in Lake City.

Memorials may be made to the Greeleyville United Methodist Church.

Kyle Hammond

ROCK HILL - Mr. Kyle Hammond, 19, of 503 E. Main St. died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ray Melton officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Hammond was a son of Mary Louthan Meacham and the late Keith Hammond. He attended Rock Hill High School and worked for Powell Construction Co.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his stepmother, Connie Hammond Demby of Rock Hill; his son, Michael Hammond of Rock Hill; his daughter, Miranda Edwards of Rock Hill; four brothers, Kory Meacham of Fort Mill, Tommy Cartee of Davidson, N.C., and Wade Hammond and Doug Hammond, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Kim Hammond of Fort Mill; his grandmother, Shirley Bailey of Rock Hill; his grandfather, Vann Elder of Rock Hill; and his girlfriend, Nicole Michael of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mary Meacham, 1638 Country Lodge Lane, Fort Mill.

Mildred Ray

ST. MARYS, Ga. - Mrs. Mildred McWhorter Ray, 83, of 401 Bailey St. died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 4:30 p.m. at St. Marys United Methodist Church in St. Marys, with the Rev. Derek McAleer officiating. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Salem United Methodist Church in Ackerman, Miss., with the Rev. David Sellers officiating.

A native of Chester, Miss., Mrs. Ray was a daughter of the late William Clyde McWhorter Sr. and Russell Holland McWhorter. She was a widow of Webster Paul Ray. She was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church, where she worked as a church secretary and financial secretary for nearly 30 years. She served as treasurer of the St. Marys Women's Club, was a member of the senior citizen organization and was a member of the AARP of St. Marys.

Surviving are her son, Gary Paul Ray of Pittsford, N.Y.; her daughter, Lorene R. Walker of Rock Hill; her brother, James McWhorter of Olympia, Wash.; two sisters, Allene Clagg and Doris Terry, both of Gore Springs, Miss.; five grandchildren; and six great - grandchildren.

Mary Wood

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Greig Wood, 78, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Revs. Tim McClendon and Michael Ritter officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Grady Demby

ROCK HILL - Mr. Grady Demby Jr., 51, of 14 Montford Ave. died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, with the Revs. Fred Rudder and Chuck Trammel officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Demby was a son of the late Grady Demby Sr. and Mary Lucille Rainey Demby. He was a retired journeyman carpenter, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda Demby; two sons, Jason Demby and Jamie Demby, both of Rock Hill; his daughter, Jojo Demby of Rock Hill; two sisters, Dianne Spears of Rock Hill and Phyllis Squibb of Pasadena, Texas; and his nephew whom he raised, Wayne Squibb of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Brenda Argoe

LEXINGTON - Ms. Brenda Kay Murphy Argoe, 47, of 200 Libby Lane died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, with the Rev. William Link officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Pomaria, Ms. Argoe was a daughter of Donald R. Murphy and Mary Murphy of West Columbia and Bill Bryant and Mary H. Bryant of Granite Falls, N.C. She was the granddaughter of the late Ethel R. Murphy, who raised her. She graduated from Mid - Carolina High School and was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. She worked for the South Carolina Department of Social Services with 18 years service.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her daughter, Paula Kay Argoe of Lexington; four sisters, Marie Murphy Harmon of Prosperity, Lynn Murphy of Rock Hill, and Lou Murphy Fudge and Angie Rook, both of Edgemoor; and her grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at McSwain - Evans Funeral Home of Newberry and at other times at the home of Jerel Harmon, 2208 Boinest Road, Prosperity.

Dorothy Clark

BESSEMER CITY, N.C. - Mrs. Dorothy Lewis Clark, 74, of 404 S. 11th St. died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Ros S. Pierce and the Rev. A.A. Bailey officiating. Burial will be at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Gaston County, N.C., Mrs. Clark was a daughter of the late V. Henry Lewis and Rhea Kincaid Lewis. She was the widow of Avery Alexander Clark.

She retired from Reeves Brothers Osage Mill in Bessemer City with more than 40 years service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Wesley Clark of Clover; two daughters, Suzanne Green and Belinda Miller, both of Gastonia; her sister, Inez Richardson of Bessemer City; nine grandchildren; and seven great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Sisk - Butler Funeral Home.
