YORK - Wesley Patrick Smith, infant son of Brian P. Smith and Melisa Whisonant Smith of 5742 Adicks Court died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Patricia Griffith-Fallaw officiating.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his paternal grandparents, Jerry Smith and Patricia Smith, both of Clover; his paternal great-grandparents,

Clyde Smith and Juanita Smith, both of Lowell, N.C., and Kate Moore of King's Mountain, N.C.; his paternal great-great-grandmother, Myrtle Smith of Waynesville, N.C.; his maternal grandmother, Mary Whisonant of Rock Hill; and his maternal great-grandmother, Ruby Tucker of York.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Empty Arms, c/o Piedmont Medical Center, 202 S. Herlong Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732. Attn: Betsy Peake or Kay Grobusky.

Mary Towery

YORK - Mrs. Mary Helen Towery, 68, of 1929 Houston Drive died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Smyrna Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Norman officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Crouse, N.C., Mrs. Towery was a daughter of the late Samuel Ozarh Huskin and Verdie Agee Huskin. She was a retired textile worker.

Surviving are her son, Mark Towery of York; three daughters, Joni Childers of Hickory Grove, Marilyn Smith of Shelby, N.C., and Hattie Towery of York; two stepsons, Roger Faile of York and Perry Faile of Fort Lawn; her stepdaughter, Dora Johnson of Clover; her brother, Forest Huskin of Lincolnton, N.C.; and two sisters, Betty Weathers of Kings Creek and

Maudie Stoots of Gaffney; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Gordon Mortuary is in charge.

Cora Varnadore

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Cora Pass-more Varnadore, 94, of 2475 Neely Store Road died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Greene Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, with the Rev. David Inman officiating and her great-grandson, Adam Fowler, assisting. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery

A native of Sylva, N.C., Mrs. Varnadore was a daughter of the late William J. Passmore and Orthia Doshia Tranham Passmore. She was the widow of Clarence Mitchum Varnadore.

Mrs. Varnadore was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. and was a charter member of Mount Gallant Church of God and the Church Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her son, Charles Varnadore of York; two daughters, Drucilla Cornwell and Ada Cotten, both of Rock Hill; her brother, Charlie Passmore of Cashiers, N.C.; two sisters, Luria Canupp of Rock Hill and Ethel Heffner of Franklin, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today before the service at Green Funeral Home ,Downtown Chapel.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Emmett Wallace

FORT MILL - Mr. Emmett Gene Wallace, 54, of 2824 Silver Run Ext. died Saturday, Oct. 7, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill, with Chaplin Carol Jackson and the Rev. Jack Walker officiating.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mr. Wallace was a son of the late Jethro Wallace and Wilma Helms Wallace.

Surviving are four sons, Ritchie Wallace of Mooresville, N.C., Ronnie Wallace and Tommy Wallace, both of Swansboro, N.C., and Billy Wallace of Belleville, Ky.; two daughters, Kristina Lynn Wallace and Jill Lynn Wallace, both of New York; his brother, Donald Joe Wallace of Fort Mill; four sisters, Betty Moree, Lauvinia Steen, Judy Walker and Helen Rabon, all of Fort Mill; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Fort Mill Funeral Home.

Ka'darion Walls

YORK - Ka'darion De'vonte Walls, infant son of Devrion Walls and Corti Dixon of 20 Watts St. died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Uniondale Cemetery in York, with the Revs. William McClain and Keith Hunter officiating.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Addauris Walls and Quizon Dixon, both of York; his maternal grandmother, Harriet Dixon of York; his paternal grandfather, Terri Walls of York; his maternal great-grandfather, Lewis Dixon of York; and his paternal great-grandfather, Timothy Blake of York.

Wright Funeral Home is in charge.

John Adkins

ROCK HILL - Mr. John David "Johnny" Adkins, 52, of 513 Arch Drive died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Harvest Ministries Church, with the Revs. Gary Adkins and Talmadge I. Bass Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Adkins was a son of Emma Rockholt of Rock Hill and the late Mason Adkins. He was a retired millwright and worked for Nalley Equipment and Installation for 19 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Newport, York County Crescent Shrine Club and Harvest Ministries Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Alice T. Adkins; two sons, Shane Adkins of York and Brent Adkins of Rock Hill; his daughter, Beth Adkins of Rock Hill; four brothers, Jerry Adkins of Chester, Leroy Adkins of Rock Hill, and Roger Adkins and J.M. Adkins, both of York; three sisters, Pat Wilkinson of McConnells and Brenda Craig and Sandra Trader, both of Rock Hill; three stepdaughters, Marlene Thomas, Crystal Thomas and Samantha Thomas, all of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel and other times at the home of his mother, Emma Adkins, 1144 Charlotte Ave., Rock Hill.

Linda Cameron

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Linda Collins Cameron, 55, of 1149 Cherokee Ave., died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at home.

The funeral was Tuesday at Bass Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ashley Gibson officiating. Burial was at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Cameron was a daughter of Polly Collins and the late Elliott Collins Sr. She was the widow of Kenneth Cameron. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving are her son, Michael Cameron of Cherokee County; two daughters, Angela Cameron and Kelle Gibson, both of the home; her brother, Elliott Collins Jr. of Greenville; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 119 Charlotte Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Susanne Veasey

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Susanne Veasey, 54, of Rock Hill, formerly of Charlotte, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Dorchester Road, in Charlotte.

Mrs. Veasey was a daughter of the late Helen Veasey and John Veasey. She was in management at Sonoco Fiber Drum Division after being an LPGA golfer.

Surviving are three sisters, Judy Glover of Rock Hill, and Brenda Andrews and Pat Kistler, both of Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 9844-C Southern Pines Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28273.

Heritage Funeral Home is in charge.

Ethel Estridge

LANCASTER - Mrs. Ethel Hill Estridge, 75, of 1812 Havenwood Drive died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tommy Wilkes officiating.

A native of Union County, Mrs. Estridge was a daughter of the late John Wesley Hill and Mattie Ross Hill. She was a registered nurse and family medical practitioner in Charleston for many years. She was former president of Charleston Zonta Club and the James Island Lioness Club. She was a past member of the American Nurses Association. She was a homemaker and was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Ira Madison Estridge; and her brother, Roy W. Hill of Monroe, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

The family will be at the home of her brother-in-law, Joe Estridge, 163 Deerwood Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Donald McClurkin

CHESTER - Mr. Donald Oday "Fay" McClurkin of 110 Odom St. died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronald McClurkin officiating and Pastor Paul F. Long and the Revs. Jessie Boulware, Eugene Canty and Moses Lightner assisting. Burial will be at Antioch Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mr. McClurkin was the son of Lawrence Simmons of Chester. He attended Finley High School. He worked for the city of Chester.

Surviving in addition to his parent are his wife, Diane Sanders-McClurkin; his daughter, Trina Degraffenreid of Rock Hill; seven brothers, the Rev. Ronald McClurkin, Roosevelt McClurkin, Frank McClurkin and James Boyd, all of Chester, John Robert McClurkin of Baltimore and Tommy Lee Thompson and Mike Thompson, both of Spartanburg; seven sisters, Shirley Wilkes, Rosa Lee Edwards, Bessie Simmons and Lois Simmons, all of Chester, Barbara Ann Smith and Judy Brown, both of Spartanburg and Azalee Young of Baltimore; and two grandsons.

The family will receive friends at home and at the home of L. A. Simmons, 115 McClure St.

The body will lie in state from 2 p.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at Antioch Baptist Church.

Elaine Rapp

TEGA CAY - Mrs. Elaine Schneeberger Rapp, 52, of 29013 Silver Fox, formerly of Daniels, W.Va, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at home.

A memorial Mass will be 7 p.m. Friday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church with Father John Giuli-ani officiating. A native of LaCrosse, Wis., Mrs. Rapp was a daughter of George W. Schneeberger and Alyce B. Schneeberger. She was an Army nurse during the Vietnam War. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Donald Fredrick Rapp of Tega Cay; two sons, Bryan Benjamin Rapp of Richmond, Va., and Derek Nicholas Rapp of Morgantown, W.Va.; her brother, Don Schneeberger of Mcquon, Wis.; and two sisters, Alyce Jane Wehrenberg of LaCrosse, Wis., and Mary Ellen Bambrick of Charlottesville, Va.

The family will receive friends after the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Harold Sligh

ROCK HILL - Mr. Harold Beauford Sligh, 74, of 1792 Mount Holly Road died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, with the Revs. James Lowery and Mike Lowery officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Whitmire, Mr. Sligh was a son of the late Allen Jefferson Sligh and Pearl Irene Evans Sligh. He retired from Hoechst Celanese Corp., with 32 years service. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Frank Roach American Legion Post 34 and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Sligh; his son, Beauford Daniel Sligh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters, Carla S. Allen of Piedmont and Harlain S. Ruff of Little Rock, Ark.; three brothers, T. J. Sligh and Edgar "Bo" Sligh, both of Rock Hill, and Charles "Buddy" Sligh of Columbia; his sister, Peggy S. Lowery of Gastonia, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel.
