ANDERSON -- Rosezella Clark Johnson, 71, of 4-B, 1100 E. Market St. died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was a member of Mount Carmel C.M.E. Church.

Surviving are daughters, Dorothy Allen, Dinah Johnson, Patricia Johnson, Priscilla Johnson, Brenda Johnson and Yvonne Johnson of Anderson, Betty Wardlaw of Orlando, Fla. and Linda Geer of Rock Hill; sons, Larry Johnson of Pickens, Eddie Johnson Jr. and Randy Johnson of Anderson; sisters, Mary Lois Clark, Annie Lee Robinson, Lue Mae Wilson, Carrie Ann Thomas and Lula Mae Thompson, all of Greenville; brothers, Jasper Clark Jr. of Charlotte, N.C. and James Clark of Greenville; 26 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Edward Johnson and the daughter of the late Jasper Horace and Louise Beardon Clark Sr. She was preceded in death by sons, Michael Johnson, Bobby Ray Johnson and Baby Boy Johnson; a sister, Clara Rodgers; and a brother, John Clark.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Wilson Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Samuel Stewart, assisted by the Rev. James Clark Sr.; burial will be in Westview Cemetery. No wake is planned. The body will be placed in the church at noon Thursday.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Dorothy Allen, 1504 N. Murray Avenue, Anderson.

The Unity Mortuary of Anderson is in charge of arrangements.

Willie Causey

Aug. 30, 1917 -- June 19, 2004

ESTILL -- Willie Jackson Causey, 86, of 613 4th St. died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Allendale County Hospital.

Born in Furman, he was a supervisor in his early adulthood with Beltsville Research Center, a printing/lithographic company in Beltsville, Md. and later was a rural carrier in Hampton County for 25 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member, former deacon and Sunday school teacher at Lawtonville Baptist Church in Estill.

Surviving are widow, Elsie Mixson Causey of the home; son, Nick H. Causey of Charleston; daughters, Sally C. Johnson of Natchitoches, La. and Lisa C. Jackson of Lilburn, Ga.; brother, James Francis Causey of Anderson; and three grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Willie Jackson Causey and Ada Lillian Smith Causey. He was preceded in death by a son, Jackson Causey Jr.; and an infant son.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Sand Hill Cemetery near Varnville by the Rev. Leonard Brisendine and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.

Alberta V. Miller

PHILADELPHIA -- Alberta V. Miller, 74, of 1623 East Duval St., formerly of Due West, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.

She was the daughter of the late Raymond Aiken and Bessie V. Lomax. She was a lifelong member of the Mount Zion AME Church of Hodges.

She graduated from Carver High School in Due West and Voorhees College in Denmark, S.C., where she received her bachelor of arts degree in business administration in 1949. She retired from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority after 32 years of service.

Surviving is her sister, Kathy Lomax of Charlotte, N.C.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zion AME Church by the Revs. Albert Thompson, Tommy L. Stanford and Michael A. Butler; burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Garden. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Holloway's Funeral Home of Belton is in charge of arrangements.

Blanche B. Dyar

Dec. 17, 1915 -- June 24, 2004

ANDERSON -- Blanche Byrum Dyar, 88, of 313 J St. died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Hart County, Ga., she was a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Billy Joe Dyar, Curtis Donald Dyar and Harold Ray Dyar, all of Anderson; daughters, Nancy Morgan of Anderson, Margie Compton of Woodruff and Mary Pettus of the home; brothers, John Byrum of Anderson and Andrew Byrum of Hartwell, Ga.; sister, Bonnie Sanford of Anderson; 24 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Curtis Manuel Dyar and the daughter of the late John Waymon Byrum and Dora Effiegee Carnes Byrum. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Louise Powell, and one grandchildren, Lori Crawford.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at The McDougald Funeral Home by the Rev. John Christmas; burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Anderson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family is at the home.

Brenda Karr

LIBERTY -- Brenda Merrell Karr, 54, of 205 Maple Court died Friday, June 25, 2004, at Palmetto Health Baptist in Easley.

Born in Henderson County, N.C., she was the widow of R.C. Karr and the daughter of the late Gillard and Sue Burgess Merrell. She was employed with Cannon Memorial Hospital and was a member of Cedar Hill Holiness Church.

Surviving are daughters, Toni Rose of Easley, Patricia Merrell of the home, Dianne Lackey of Six Mile, Debra Nix of Gainesville, Ga., and Shirley Lester of Spartanburg; son, Steve Karr of Gainesville; sisters, Margaret and Kathy; brothers, Ansel, Carroll, Carl and Ernie; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Mortuary; burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.

The family will be at the home.

Cyd Cherisse Stephens

CENTRAL -- Cyd Cherisse Stephens, 44, of 410 Spring Forrest Dr. died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Oconee Memorial Hospital, Seneca.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Adams Mortuary, Seneca. The family is at the home of her mother Carrie S. Crooks, 112 Goldman St., Clemson.

Elsie M. Sarty

Feb. 18, 1918 -- June 23, 2004

ANDERSON -- Mrs. Elsie M. Sarty, 86, of 502 Cherokee St., Anderson, SC, left her worldly body to be with the Lord, Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at Anderson Area Medical Center. Mrs. Sarty was born February 18, 1918 in Worcester, Massachusetts to the late Arvid L. Young and Elsie M. Kirkegard.

After High School Mrs. Sarty worked as secretary for the President of American Optical.

Mrs. Sarty was married in Auburn, MA in 1940, they lived on Pleasant St. in Berlin, MA for 16 years from 1943 to 1959 during that time they had their own Real Estate Business. In 1959 they moved to Homestead, Fla., where they lived for 33 years.

She and her husband entertained with the Homestead Kitchen Band, she was also associated with the Auburn Ma. "swinger" group while spending summers there.

She and her husband owned Glades Grocery Store and Kings Corner Grocery and Deli in Homestead during the years 1963-1985.

After Hurricane Andrew destroyed their home of 31 years, she and her husband moved to Anderson, SC locally, in Anderson, she was a member of the Senior Follies Group at Anderson College and was with the Outreach Entertainers where she played the piano and performed for the local nursing homes, churches, and senior groups.

She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple.

Survivors include daughter, Lorna M. Nixon of Homestead, Fla.; son-in-law, Gary Eubanks of Homestead, Fla.; one granddaughter, Jennifer Gonzalez of Anderson, SC; great grandchildren, Kristopher and Libby Gonzalez of Anderson, SC; her dear friend Barbara Moreno of Anderson, SC; one niece and one nephew, brother-in-law, Max A. Sarty and his wife Jeannette of Leicester, MA; sister-in-law, Ethel Beaudreau of Spencer, MA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester F. Sarty, a brother, Leonard Young, a sister-in-law, Joy Putnam Young.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 26, 2004 in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Duncan officiating.

George Yeargin

July 25, 1921 -- June 25, 2004

GREENWOOD -- George Alford Yeargin, 82, of 306 Grove St., Hampton House, died Friday, June 25, 2004, at Wesley Commons.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late George Sylvester and Susie Moore Yeargin. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Greenwood Mills, Plant 5.

Surviving are sisters, Willie Mae Kelley of Iva, Mozelle Saxon of Anderson and Mary Ruth Long of Ware Shoals; and brothers, Bruce L. Yeargin and Joe F. Yeargin, both of Greenwood.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Blyth Funeral Home; burial will be in Starr Baptist Church cemetery, Starr. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Family members will be at their respective homes.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

John D. Gowens

PICKENS -- John D. Gowens, 75, of 231 S. Church St. died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at his home.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Joseph and Chivio Edens Gowens, a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Griffin Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a masonry contractor,

Surviving are widow, Joann Gowens of the home; daughters, Marilyn Gowens Lilliston of Clemson, Lynn Perry of Pickens and Vickie Aiken of Easley; sons, Larry Webb, John Gowens Jr., Terry, Zane and Emory Gowens, all of Pickens, Michael Gowens of Greenville, Roger Webb of Easley and Aaron Gowens of Anderson; sister, Mattie M. Gowens of Pickens; and a brother, Mack Gowens of Pickens.

Services are at 4 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Revs. Carroll Austin, Earl Beeks, Ikie Scipio, Aaron Gowens, R.C. Lilliston, James Hallums and Ministers Mary King and Veronica Hatton; burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church.

The body is at S.C. Franks Chapel of Remembrance, Liberty, who is in charge of arrangements.

John Shedd

WEST UNION -- John Thomas Shedd, 52, of 308 Torrington Road died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at his home.

Born in Oconee County, he was an employee of Swift Transportation Co. and was a member of the Golden Corner Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran with more than 18 years of service.

Surviving are widow, Alice Faye Sullivan Shedd of the home; daughters, Brandy M. Crocker of West Union and Ryan S. Shedd of Walhalla; brother, Bobbie E. Shedd of Walhalla; sister, Lynn Barns of Salem; and one grandson.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Davenport Funeral Home; burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to OMH Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, S.C. 29672.

Johnny James Williams

July 15, 1946 -- Jun 23, 2004

BELTON -- Johnny James Williams, 57, of 107-A Lincoln St. died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Jesse T. Williams. He graduated from William H. Wells High School in Chicago. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Belton, where he served as on the Usher Board, the Men's Ministry and the Building Committee. He was a retired truck driver.

Surviving are mother, Macie J. Williams of the home; daughter, Brittany C. Williams of the home; sons, D'Andre Williams of Chicago, Jordan Williams of Streator, Ill., and Jonathan Williams of the home; and his sister, Jeanette William Rice of Evanston, Ill. He was preceded in death by one brother, Willie Williams.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church, Belton, by the Rev. Donnie Gambrell III and other ministers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Holloway's Funeral Home of Belton. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The family is at the home of his mother, Macie Williams, 107 Lincoln St.

Jorge Marcondes

Dr. Jorge Aparecido Marcondes, 47, died Thursday, June 24, 2004, in Anderson.

Born in Brazil, he was the son of Benedito Marcondes and Mercedes Padovan De Campos. He was a professor and Cryovac Chair in the Packaging Science Department at Clemson University.

Surviving are widow, Patricia G. Marcondes; his children, Alex and Alice Marcondes; and brothers, Jose Luiz and Marco of Brazil.

The family will receive friends and relatives at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Clemson. A funeral mass will be held at 5 p.m. at the church. A reception will follow the mass in Brimley Hall. Memorials may be made to Jorge Marcondes Scholarship Fund, Clemson University.

Cremation Society of South Carolina is serving the Marcondes Family.

Lillie Mae Emery

Nov. 1, 1916 -- June 24, 2004

ANDERSON -- Lillie Mae Emery, 87, formerly of 202 Sumter St., died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Willow Creek Nursing Center.

Born in Simpsonville, she was a member of Landmark Free Will Baptist Church. She was retired from Orr Lyons Mill.

Surviving are sons, Jack Otis Alexander, Jessie William Emery and Jerry Lee Emery, all of Anderson, James William Alexander of Pickens and Jessie Odell Alexander; daughters, Helen Christine Horne, Easter Mae Jacobs and Diana Lynn White, all of Anderson, and Marie Green of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Annie Bell Cook of Greenville; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of James Edward Emery and the daughter of the late Willie Cantrell and Laurie Strickland Cantrell. She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Lee Alexander; and several brothers and sisters.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Landmark Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Danny Keen; entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Anderson. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at The McDougald Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The family will be at the home of her son, Jack Otis Alexander, 402 Regency Circle, Anderson.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson. S.C. 29621 or to the Landmark Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 128 Camellia Drive, Anderson, S.C. 29625.
