MOSES KENDRICK

Moses Kendrick, 91, widower of Carrie Robinson Kendrick, died Nov. 10, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born July 19, 1913, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Martin Kendrick and Alice McLeod Kendrick.

The family will receive friends at the home of Harry and Mary K. Sanders, 6530 Camden Highway, Rembert.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

GERALD B. HARDIN

ROWLAND, N.C. -- Gerald Bainard Hardin, 55, died Oct. 31, 2004, in Robeson County, N.C.

Born on Nov. 14, 1948, in Sumter, he was the son of Betty A. Hardin Hodge and the late Bainard Lawton Hardin.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Morgan Hodge of Sumter; his wife, Leigh Hardin of Rowland; sons, Jerry Hardin, Trey Hardin and John Hardin; daughters, Jessica Hardin, Jamie Hardin and Lynn Hardin; a stepson, Robert Stevenson; a stepdaughter, Amanda Balchi; several grandchildren; a brother, Roger Hardin of Kennard, Texas; and a sister, Sheila Mathews of Sumter.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. G.W. Harrell officiating.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of local arrangements.

MAYBELLE WRIGHT

Maybelle Wright, 83, widow of James W. Wright, died Nov. 10, 2004, in Plymouth, Orange County, Fla.

Born March 9, 1921, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Sampson Dow and Leavy Joseph.

The family will receive friends at the home of her son, James Wright Jr., 4475 Stick Lane, Sumter.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

IVORY SCOTT Jr.

BISHOPVILLE -- Ivory "Bo Peep" Scott Jr. died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville.

Born in Lee County, Jan. 1, 1937, he was a son of the late Ira Scott and Maybell Prince Scott. He was adopted by the Boykin family of Bishopville. He attended the public schools of Lee County and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are his sister, Earline McCoy and her husband, Eugene, of Hartsville; his adopted family, Eddie and Eunice Boykin of Bishopville; his adopted brothers, Jake, Ralph, Steve, Clay and Eddie Boykin, all of Bishopville; his adopted sister, Chris Watson of Bishopville; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Cantey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Square Deal Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

EVELYN M. HARTZELL

Evelyn M. Hartzell, 83, died Nov. 6, 2004, in Select Specialty Hospital in Camp Hill, Pa.

She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Edna Gates.

Survivors include a brother, Ralph Gates Jr. of Sumter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Gates.

Funeral services were held in Summerdale, Pa.

LEVERN GIVEN

BISHOPVILLE -- Mr. Levern Given died at a hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. The family will receive friends at 327 Quinn St., Bishopville.

Services will be announced by Boatwright Funeral Home of Bishopville.

HOMER WEATHERLY

Homer Weatherly, 95, widower of Ann St. John Weatherly, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Sun Coast Hospital in Largo, Fla.

Mr. Weatherly was the son of the late Abner and Emma Weatherly.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Valley Stream, N.Y., and attended Anona Methodist Church in Largo. He attended school in Sumter and graduated from the Boys High School in 1926. He was an outstanding volleyball player in Harrisburg, Pa., in the 1940's and was Captain of the Jamaica, N.Y., YMCA's Championship team. He was retired from the Long Island Railroad as Engineer of Signals.

Surviving are four daughters, Catherine Kubik and husband, Tom, of Hauppauge, N.Y., Marion Schultz of Brentwood, N.Y., Essie Haberstumf and husband, Herb, of Flushing, N.Y., and Laura Ann Modugno and husband, Charles, of Valley Steam, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Pat Gates and husband, Ralph, of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Weatherly; a daughter, Nancy Weatherly; a granddaughter, Robin Weatherly; two sisters, Laurie Johnston and Essie Spratt; and a brother, A.W. Weatherly.

Services will be held at a later date.

HARRIET SPANN

EDISON, N.J. -- Harriet Spann, 92, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at JFK Hartwyck Nursing Facility.

She was born Aug. 5, 1912, in Sumter.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

MONIQUE A. JACKSON

Monique Alicia "Lisa" Jackson, 19, died Friday morning, Nov. 12, 2004, at 201 Lois Lane in Sumter.

Born Feb. 2, 1985, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Ned Jackson and Lee Johnson Jackson.

The family will receive friends at the home of her grandparents, Lee Ernest Johnson and Ruth McFadden Johnson, 40 Wright St.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

DOUGLAS THOMAS

LEXINGTON -- Douglas Stephen Thomas, 47, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004.

It is requested by the family to call Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, for all information pertaining to the service.

BERTHA PRINGLE SAMUEL

Bertha "Sweet" Pringle Samuel, 79, widow of James Samuel Sr., died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born on Jan. 13, 1925, in the Britton-Brogdon section of Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Sammie Lee Pringle and Rebecca James Pringle.

The family will receive friends at the home, 956 Samuel St., Sumter.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Mannisng.

LEVER RANDOLPH GLEATON

Lever Randolph Gleaton, 86, husband of Louise Tisdale Gleaton, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at a local nursing facility.

Born in Orangeburg County, he was a son of the late Daniel B. Gleaton and Gladys Millhouse Gleaton.

Mr. Gleaton was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church where he was a member of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class. Mr. Gleaton was the former owner and operator of Gleaton Floor Covering. He was an Army veteran serving in the 2nd Battery of the 178th Field Artillery of the National Guard, serving during WWII in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 15.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, of Sumter; two sons, William N. (Bill) Gleaton and wife, Becky, of Tampa, Fla., and Lever R. (Randy) Gleaton Jr. of Sumter; one brother, Olin Gleaton of Columbia; one sister, Shelby Counts of Crystal River, Fla.; five grandchildren, Kathryn Louise Gleaton, Jessica Leigh Gleaton, Rebecca Lauren Gleaton, Rachel Louise Gleaton and Jason Gleaton; two great-grandchildren, Mary Alexander Gleaton and Logan Matthew Gleaton.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Dr. Clay Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Alice Drive Baptist Church, 1305 Loring Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29150.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 2nd Battery of the 178th Field Artillery, members of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class and Dr. Lea B. Givens.

EULA B. WHITE

MARION -- Eula Ernestine Brown White, 93, widow of Albert Woods White, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Mariner Health Care in Sumter after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at the Chapel of Smith-Collins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Devotion Gardens cemetery, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home.

Mrs. White was born on Feb. 26, 1911, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Rufus and Sara Hucks Brown. Mrs. White retired from Herbert Mills. She was a member of Spring Branch Methodist Church.

Surviving Mrs. White are: two sons, Legrand White and his friend, Erma Bridgman, of Marion and Elmer C. White and his wife, Janice, of Kingstree; a daughter, Linda Martin and her husband, L.E., of Sumter; a son-in-law, Travis R. Harmon, of Columbia; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and two sisters, Christine Watson of Brittons Neck and Virginia Cox of Boaz, Ala.

Mrs. White was predeceased by a daughter, Claudia Ann Harmon, and four sisters, Lena Johnson, Lorine Eason, Thelma Everette and Katie Jo Cox.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Smith-Collins Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Legrand White, 1606 Highway 76 West, Marion.
