Juanita Gandy, 92, died Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Morrell Nursing Center after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

MINNIE LEE EUTEN
Graveside services for Minnie Lee Euten, 71, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Euten, widow of Charles J. Euten, died June 15. She was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late Major and Bessie Galloway Grantham. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are children, Cindy (Ricky) Howle, Tressie Euten, Ricky (Marie) Euten, Joe (Diane) Euten; sisters, Julie and Ruby Stokes, Barbara Jean Jeffords, all of Hartsville, and three grandchildren.

NED DARGAN
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for William Edwin (Ned) Dargan, 93, will be at 10 a.m. today, June 21, 2006, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Darlington, followed by the interment at Grove Hill cemetery in Darlington, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Dargan died in the home in which he was born Sunday, June 18, after an extended illness. He was born in 1912 in Darlington to Rosa Evans McIntosh and William Edwin Dargan. He graduated from Clemson University in 1934. He was in the United States Army from 1942 to 1947, serving as a captain during World War II, participating in the invasion of France and Germany. He farmed his family's land for 50 years where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an active member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Darlington, serving many years on the vestry and as senior warden. Land and water conservation were great interests of his and he served at local, state and regional levels as commissioner and chairman of conservation committees for many years. He also served on agricultural research committees on the local, state and national levels.

Mr. Dargan was also director and president of the Darlington Farm Bureau for many years and was on the Board of Visitors of Clemson University. For 25 years he served as director of the Farmer's Mutual Insurance Company and he served on the Darlington Board of Education. He received many awards including Conservation Award of the Year by the State of S.C., Outstanding Conservation District Commissioner, Co-op Man of the Year, Man of the Year by the Darlington Chamber of Commerce and he received the Certificate of Merit by the Darlington Soil Conservation District. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and of local, regional and state historical societies.

Mr. Dargan was preceded in death by Annie McCullough Edwards, his wife of 59 years; two sisters, Mary Hart McIver and Rosa Evans Dargan.

He is survived by one son, William Edwin (Marsha) Dargan Jr., and two daughters, Rosanne Dargan Brasington and Martha Dargan Harper; one brother, Lucas McIntosh (Frances) Dargan; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His loving, faithful caregivers were Gloria Harkless, Wallace Eaddy, Joyce Perkins, Gloria Wright, Clementine Gee and Renee Gee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506 or St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 210 S. Main St., Darlington, SC 29532 .

T. H. DAVIS
CHESTERFIELD - Funeral services for T. H. Davis, 71, will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 21, 2006, at Miller-River-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in White Oak Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Mr. Davis died Sunday, June 18. He was born in Chesterfield County, a son of the late J. Tom and Rachel Deese Davis. He was a retired truck driver with Patrick Auto Parts, and was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Davis was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of the Red Land and Ruby Hunting Clubs and the Chesterfield American Legion Post 74. Mr. Davis was a friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Davis.

Survivors are a son, Tommy (Shirley) Davis of Ruby; two daughters, Regina D. Jones of Hartsville and Wanda D. Stroud of Rockwell, N.C.; his companion of 28 years, Betty B. Caulder of Chesterfield and her children, Phillip (Yetive) Caulder, Sissy (Harold) Adams and Penny (Cotton) Dixon, all of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Kenzie Huggins, Erica and Cody Wallace, Neil (Michele) Adams, Haley Adams, Richie Dixon, Cas and Calyn Caulder; one great-grandchild, Carson Adams; one brother, E. B. Davis of Rockingham, N.C., and one sister, Janie Crowley of Hartsville.

MIRIAM N. CARTER
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Funeral services for Miriam Newsom Carter, 82, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Mark Olson. Burial followed at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street, directed by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville, N.C.

Mrs. Carter died Saturday, June 17, at her home. She was the loving wife of Edward (Ed) Kennedy Carter. She was born in Dec. 18, 1923, in Darlington to Harry and Natalie Pate Newsom. Known as Mickey to her friends, she was the secretary at Terry Sanford High School for 25 years. She was a member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church; an active member of Highland Country Club's Ladies Golf Association and enjoyed playing bridge.

She was the loving mother, mother-in-law and grandmother to Edward Kennedy (Ken), Constance (Connie) and Emma Kathleen Carter of Rocky River, Ohio.

She is survived by three sisters, Sarah King of Charlotte, N.C., Virginia White of Columbia, Rosamond Blackwell (Gerald) of Summerville and sister-in-law, Carolyn Newsom and many nieces and nephews.

Contributions in honor of Mrs. Carter may be made to American Heart Association.

ANGELA A. POWELL
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Angela Andrews Powell, 38, will be in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home today, June 23, 2006, at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Leroy Lowery. Interment will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Powell, wife of James 'Jamie' Powell Jr., died Tuesday, June 20, in a local hospice facility. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of Charles A. Andrews and Vera Floyd A. Beckham. Angela graduated from St. John's High School and then Florence-Darlington Technical College. She began her work at the McLeod Regional Medical Center Radiology Department and later transferred to the Radiation / Oncology Department. She loved her work and the many friends she made there. Mrs. Powell had a love for animals, especially her cat, Eos. She was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents and husband are her brother, Charles 'Chad' (Brandy) Andrews of Darlington; a younger sister, Ashton Beckham of Darlington; three nephews, Kyle, C.J. and Chase, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

JUDY B. ISGETT
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Judith 'Judy' Boswell Isgett, 62, will be held in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home today, June 23, 2006, at 3 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Randy Woods. Interment will follow in Grove Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Isgett, wife of Charles B. Isgett, died Wednesday, June 21, in a local hospital. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late Evans 'E.J.' and Amma Mae McGee Boswell. She was a graduate of St. John's High School and was retired from Bank Of America. She was very active in the American Heart Association. Judy was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church, where she was involved with the choir, the Encourager Sunday School Class and the Lucy Smith Circle.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Tim (Sherry) Isgett of Myrtle Beach and Bryan (Kecia) Isgett of Macon, Ga.; grandchildren, Avery, McGee, Zayne, Kaleigh and Reed Isgett; two brothers, Julian Boswell of North Myrtle Beach and Carroll (Patsy) Boswell of Darlington.

Mrs. Isgett was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ann Boswell.

JUDITH B. HUNTER
INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. - Funeral services in celebration of the life of Judith Berry Hunter, 57, will be held at 5 p.m.on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Heritage Funeral Home, 4431 Old Monroe Road, Indian Trail, N.C. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be private.

Mrs. Hunter passed away on Thursday, June 22, at home. She was born on Nov. 16, 1948, in Columbia, daughter to Marion Rhodes Berry and the late Wilmont G. Berry, who passed in 2005. Her husband of 34 years, Roger William Hunter, also preceded her in death in 2005. She was an insurance underwriter for Wachovia. Mrs. Hunter was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Survivors in addition to her mother include, her son, Curtis Hunter and wife Cindy; brother, Otis Marvin Berry; and grandson, Dawson Jacob Hunter.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th St. Charlotte, NC 28204.

Arrangements for the family are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Indian Trail/Matthews Chapel.

INFANT Zy'KIRA CARROWAY
Funeral services for infant Zy'kira Sha'lik Carroway were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial followed services in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.

Zy'Kira died Thursday, June 22. She was born in Darlington County, the infant daughter of Margie Carroway and Ricky Mathis.

Surviving are her mother, Margie Carroway of Hartsville; her father, Ricky Mathis of Miami, Fla.; a special aunt and guardian, Tammie Lisa Dixon of Hartsville; a maternal grandfather, Rufus Cherry of Hartsville; two brothers, Mikhail Robinson and Dontrell Robinson, both of Hartsville; a host of many aunts, uncles and other close relative and friends.

JAKE HOFFMAN
Funeral services for William Jacob 'Jake' Hoffman, 75, will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 28, 2006, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Charles Boswell and Steve Henson will officiate, with burial in Elim United Methodist Church cemetery, Oates.

Memorials may be made to the Lakeview Baptist Church Debt Retirement, 202 Lakeview Blvd., Hartsville, SC 29550, or McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.

Mr. Hoffman died Monday, June 26. Born in Darlington, he was a son of the late Boland and Nancy Odom Hoffman. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church and the Higher Ground Sunday School Class. He grew up in the Oates Community before serving his country in the Korean War 1951 - 1953. He served in the United States Army, Company H, 7th Division, 17th Infantry. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, the Korean Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Medal. He was injured on the front lines and recovered in the military hospital in Osaka, Japan. He also served in the Merchant Marines for 14 years.

Surviving are his wife, Eunice Privette Gainey Hoffman of Hartsville; stepson, Ellis Gainey of Hartsville; stepdaughters, Bonnie Logwood, Terry Hinson, both of Hartsville, and Karen Auburger of Steele, Mo.; sister, Mildred H. Marshall of Hartsville; brother and sister-in-law, B. A. and Doris Hoffman of Hartsville.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lois Evans, Carolyn Miller and Ethel Brown, and by his brother, Jimmy Hoffman.

CECIL W. CHANDLER SR.
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Cecil W. Chandler Sr., 78, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006, in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens.

Mr. Chandler died Thursday, June 22, in a local hospital. He was born in Darlington, son of the late Dan and Hattie Suggs Chandler. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and then went to work for Sonoco, where he retired after 40 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club and Brockington Hunt Club. Mr. Chandler was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Suggs Chandler of the home; two sons, Cecil (Debra) Chandler of Surfside Beach, Mike (Tracey) Chandler of Columbia; two daughters, Debbie Baker, Angie Chandler, both of Darlington; four grandchildren, Jeff Chandler, Michael Chandler, Monica Chandler and Dale Baker; and an aunt, Hazel Rose.

Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by a brother, Dan Chandler, and a sister, Winnie Chandler.

RUBY GORDAN
Graveside services for Ruby Jacqueline Gainey Gordan, 84, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Beasley cemetery. The Rev. Ed Griggs will officiate, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 29, following the service at the residence of Mrs. Dot Beasley, 3025 Ousleydale Road, Hartsville.

Mrs. Gordan, widow of Duke Gordan, died Monday, June 26. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late E. V. and Margaret Ann Gainey Gainey.

Surviving are her daughters, Jet Orr Collins and Joyce Lemay, both of Columbia; grandsons and spouses, Steven and Donna Orr, James and Rhonda Orr; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Leroy Gainey, Ashton Gainey, Jerome Gainey; sisters, Eula Hendrix, Avery Truett, Teddie Culpepper, Nora Bell Talbert, Beulah Beasley, Lula Beasley and Geneva Gainey.

JOANNE McKAY
Services for Joanne Beasley McKay, 67, will be Thursday, June 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Liberty Hill Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be this evening, June 28, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. McKay who died June 27, was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late Sam and Annie Mixon Beasley. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Larry A. McKay Sr.; son, Larry A. McKay Jr.; sisters, Corine Hatchell, Azalie Geise, Julie Tyner, Annie Marie Smothers; brothers, Samuel J. (Bud) Beasley, Johnny and David Beasley, all of Hartsville; granddaughter, Alexis Paige McKay of Chesterfield. She was preceded in death by sisters, Betty Winburn, Letha Amerson and Elaine Smothers.

LENNY F. WOODS
Funeral services for Lenny Floyd Woods, 49, were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2006, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Woods died Friday, June 9. He was born in New York, a son of Leonard and Johnnie Mae Arthur Woods. He received his education in the public schools in the area and was a member of Park Street Church of Christ in Columbia.

Surviving other than his parents of Hartsville and Queens, N.Y., are a sister, Genevieve Woods of Columbia; a maternal grandmother, Lillie Mae Arthur of Lydia; seven aunts, five uncles; and a host of other close relatives and friends.
