POMARIA — Graveside services for Ronnie Felker, 61, will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery. McSwain-Evans Funeral Home is in charge.

He died January 20, 2005. Born in Pomaria, he was a son of the late Forace and Juanita Ringer Felker. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Felker.

James Grant

FAIRFAX — Services with burial for James Quillie Grant, 76, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Jackson Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Brunson. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at M.F. Riley’s Funeral Home. Born in Hampton Co. to Dan Grant and Queen Ester Furman, he died Jan. 20, 2005. Surviving: daughters, Verona Grant-Williams; Wanda and Cheryl Grant; one brother; three sisters; four grandchildren.

Emma Johnson

ORANGEBURG —Services with burial for Emma Mae Johnson, 80, widow of Columbus Johnson, are 11 a.m. today (viewing 10 a.m.) at Canaan UM Church. Simmons Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Orangeburg Co. to Ann Curry and Henry Robinson, she died Jan. 17, 2005. Surviving: children, Blanche, Barbara, Sandra, Dianne, Teresa, Debra, Columbus Jr., Michael; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; stepgrandchildren.

Tina Spencer

ABBEVILLE — A memorial service for Tina Carol Spencer, 37, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. Born in Clinton to Eugene and Edith Hardin Sellers, she died January 20, 2005. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Surviving are her husband, David Spencer; daughters, Brittney Spencer, Edith Spencer; parents; sister, Cindy Sheppard.

Patricia Harrington

NEWBERRY — Services for Patricia Maxey Harrington will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at West End Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens of Columbia. Memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 906, Newberry, SC 29108. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

Ms. Harrington, 66, died January 21, 2005. Born in Walterboro, she was a daughter of the late Thomas C. Maxey and Elsie Ellisor Maxey Meetze. She was the office manager of Advance America and the site manager for Harris Brown Management Company and a member of West End Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons, Arthur Earl Singley III of Columbia and Jeffery Kent (Donna) Singley of Chapin; a daughter, Jill (Ralph) Baughman Riddle of Newberry; a sister, Joan (Ed) Kyzer of Newberry; her stepfather, Lewie E. (Catherine) Meetze of Newberry; grandchildren, Donald Scott Singley, Hannah Elizabeth Singley and Savannah Laine Riddle. She was predeceased by a son, Leslie Scott Singley.

Jack Jordan

BEAUFORT — Jack Horton Jordan, 68, husband of Betty Creekmore Cleland Jordan, died January 19, 2005, in Spartanburg Regional Hospital.

Family received friends Friday, January 21, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 22, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Jordan was born on May 29, 1936, in Kershaw County, SC, to the late Frank O. Jordan and Eula Mae Horton Jordan.

He served in the U.S. Air Force National Guard, was a self-employed general contractor and had been a Beaufort County resident for 22 years. He was a member of Mt. Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church, Columbia, SC.

He is survived by his wife of Beaufort, two sons, Jack H. Jordan, Jr., of Lexington, SC, Jason Frank Jordan of Enoree, SC, two daughters, Joanne Brady and Janet Austin of W. Columbia, SC, a brother, Franklin Odell Jordan of Elgin, SC, two sisters, Zula Mae Kirby and Betty Neeley of Columbia, SC, his stepsons, Alan Cleland, Larry Cleland and Carl Cleland, all of Beaufort, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by four brothers and one sister.

Anderson Funeral Home is in charge.

COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Ruth Stewart Martin, 77, will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Second Nazareth Baptist Church with burial in Lincoln Cemetery. Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge. Surviving are her daughters, Sophia Wheeler, Hattie Calhoun, Penny Morant, and Chinda (Aerial) Flo; sons, James (Diane) Whaley, Jr., Odell (Kathy) Martin, Isiah Martin, Andre Martin, and Clisby (Erica) Martin; sister, Ruby Gary; brother, Bobby Stewart; thirty-two grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren.

Raymond Rutherford Sr.

NEWBERRY — Services with burial for Raymond Charles “Pork Chop” Rutherford Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church. F.B. Pratt & Son Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Newberry to Johnnie and Mary Alston Rutherford, he died Jan. 20, 2005. Surviving are wife, Glenise C. Rutherford; children, Raymond Jr., Tameeka Rutherford; grandchild, Tamia Rutherford; 2 sisters; 6 brothers; others.

Richard Williams

SANTEE — A remembrance gathering for Richard B. “Dick” Williams, 63, retired police detective, noon Sunday at Santee Cooper Resort Clubhouse. Avinger Funeral Home, Holly Hill, is in charge. Mr. Williams died Jan. 20, 2005. Surviving: wife, Joanne; sons, Brian, Shawn, Richard Jr.; daughters, Denise, Bonnie; sister, Carol; 13 grandchildren. M’liss Leicht

SPARTANBURG — M’Liss Wright Leicht, 81, of Eden Terrace, formerly of Fernwood Drive, died Thursday, January 20, 2005, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born May 3, 1923, in Cleveland, OH, she was the daughter of the late Frank Salisbury and Anna Pauline Lyman Wright and the wife of the late Elmer Jacob Leicht, Jr. She was a graduate of high school in St. Petersburg, FL, and was associated with the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg.

Survivors include a son, Richard Lyman Leicht and his wife Nancy of Raleigh, NC; two daughters, Cheryl Leicht Hill and her husband David of Spartanburg, and Paula Joy Leicht Blackmon and her husband Chip of Columbia, SC; a sister, Phyllis Wright Needham; and six grandchildren, Eric J. Leicht of Raleigh, NC, Richard Brian Leicht of Raleigh, NC, Steven David Hill, Sarah Kristen Hill, and Christopher William Hill, all of Spartanburg, and Maia Kirsten Blackmon of Columbia, SC.

Visitation will be 2-2:45 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2005, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone and the Rev. Bill Adams. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Upstate SC Chapter, 110 South Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, Attn: Kim Cole, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.

The family is at the home of Cheryl and David Hill, 18 Willowood Drive, Spartanburg.

Ivor Balding

CAMDEN — Memorial services for Ivor Godfrey Balding, 96, of Camden, will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church. Rev. Harry E. Lawhon will officiate. In lieu of flowers, send memorials to Hospice of Kershaw Co., 2001 W. DeKalb St., Camden, SC 29020 or Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter, 460 S. Fair St., Camden, SC 29020. Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel is in charge.

Mr. Balding died Friday, January 21, 2005. He was born in Leicestershire, England, in 1908 to the late Florence and Albert Balding. After a career as a professional polo player in England, where he was a seven-goal player, he and his brother Barney followed their older brother Gerald to the United States in 1930, where all three were professional polo players. In 1934 he married Frances Thorley Goodwin of New York, NY.

After attending Cornell University, Mr. Balding became farm manager for the C.V. Whitney Farm in Old Westbury, NY, in 1936, and three years later was placed in charge of the Whitney Farm in Lexington, KY. He oversaw Whitney’s thoroughbred operations and introduced the prize-winning Angus cattle herd, which he used to develop innovative pasture husbandry at the farms in New York and Kentucky. He is largely responsible for persuading Mr. Whitney to buy the stallion Mahmound from the Aga Khan, a stallion who became one of the most important broodmare sires of his time. In 1961, Mr. Balding became Whitney’s thoroughbred trainer on the East Coast. He was a leading trainer at Saratoga in 1966 and trained numerous stakes winners.

Surviving are his wife, Polly Potter Balding and children, Bettina Balding Blackford of Charlottesville, VA, David Ivor Balding of St. Louis, MO, Pamela Balding Jencks of London, England, and Linda Balding Shearer of Cincinnati, OH; three stepdaughters; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances Goodwin Balding and his daughter, Sheila Balding Jewell.

Lendon McCoy Sr.

ST. MATTHEWS — Lendon J. “L.J.” McCoy, Sr. died Friday.

Funeral is 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church (Hwy. 21) St. Matthews with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. 1012 Whitman St., Orangeburg, SC 29115.
