Born in Andrews, SC on Oct. 27, 1915
Departed on Jan. 28, 2004 and resided in Conway, SC.

Maybelle Casselman Long, age 88, wife of the late German Long, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at Conway Nursing Center.

Mrs. Long was born in Andrews, SC, a daughter of the late Jonas and Lottie Ethridge Casselman. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Andrews.

Surviving are two daughters, Clara L. Thomas and her husband Eugene of Columbia and Sara L. Fox and husband Dan of Conway; two sons Windle Long and his wife Linda of Hemingway and Olin Long and his wife Genevieve of Andrews; two sisters Estelle Ethridge of Andrews and Lucy Morris of North Charleston; one brother Theron Casselman of Loris; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Friday from the First Baptist Church of Andrews with Rev. Paul Sapp officiating. Burial will follow in Penny Royal Memorial Gardens, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 PM at the church prior to the service.

Elizabeth Kay Matthews
Born in Pinehurst, NC on Nov. 28, 1977
Departed on Jan. 26, 2004 and resided in Aynor, SC.

Elizabeth Kay DiSantis Matthews, age 26, wife of Steve Matthews, of the Cool Springs Section of Horry County, died Monday, January 26, 2004.

Mrs. Matthews was born in Pinehurst, NC, a daughter of Paul Victor and Vicki Cooke DiSantis.

Surviving in addition to her parents of Pinehurst, NC and her husband of Aynor are: two sons, Cole Rayford Matthews and Christian Taylor Matthews and one daughter, Katelyn Lee Matthews; one sister, Jennifer DiSantis of Southern Pines, NC.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. Robbin King officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

William Billy Edwards
Born in Conway on Dec. 18, 1925
Departed on Jan. 29, 2004 and resided in Conway, SC.

William B. "Billy" Edwards, age 78, of the Ridgefield Section of Horry County, died Thursday, January 29, 2004 at Conway Medical Center.

Mr. Edwards was born in Conway, a son of the late William Graddy and Marie Ryan Edwards. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and was a US Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Edwards received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star and was a member of the American Legion Post 111, the VFW and DAV. Prior to his retirement he was employed by the South Carolina Employment Security Commission.

Surviving are his wife, Ester Drew Edwards of Conway; three sons, William Greg Edwards and his wife Roma of Longs, James Michael Edwards and his wife Renee' and Christopher Clyde Edwards and his wife Beth all of Conway; three brothers, Walter Eugene Edwards of Conway, James Graddy "Jim" Edwards of Pinoplis, SC and Wilbur Lewis Edwards of Bayboro; four sisters, Elizabeth Stanley of Kingstree; Ann Smith, Rebecca Chestnut and Louise Jordan all of Conway; five grandchildren Drew Edwards, Jessica Edwards, Steven Edwards, Katie Edwards and Shelley Edwards.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday from Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Troy Metzner officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to Centenary United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1527 Hwy 544, Conway, SC 29526.

Atwood Brandon Martin
Born in Conway, SC on Nov. 5, 1914
Departed on Jan. 29, 2004 and resided in Conway, SC.

Atwood Brandon Martin, age 89, of the Bucksport Community, died Thursday, January 29, 2004 at Loris Community Hospital.

Mr. Martin was born in Conway, a son of the late George Henry and Beatrice Skipper Martin. He was a member of Waccamaw Presbyterian Church and was a retired farmer. Mr. Martin was predeceased by two brothers, Herman Martin and Carl Martin and one sister Maude M. Causey.

Surviving are five nephews, Danny Martin and his wife Judy and Ray Martin all of Charlotte, Harry Causey and his wife Billie Ann of Conway, Rick Causey and his wife Rebecca of Myrtle Beach and Kemp Causey and his wife Brenda of Carolina Shores, NC; five nieces, Carol M. Vargas and her husband Richard of Charleston, Wilma Sellers and her husband Bobby and Sara Richardson all of Conway, Eileen M. Misenhamer and her husband Alex of Marion and Wanda M. Gregory and her husband Charles of Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Saturday from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. Billy Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in Waccamaw Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Ethel Mae Tyler
Born in Horry County on Jan. 3, 1930
Departed on Feb. 1, 2004 and resided in Conway, SC.

CONWAY.....Ethel Mae Tyler, age 74 of Cultra, wife of the late Davis E. Tyler, Sr., died Sunday, February 1, 2004 at her residence following an illness.

Mrs. Tyler was born in Horry County a daughter of the late Samuel and Carrie Belle Carroll Altman. She was a member of Homewood Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters: Pacita "Pat" Tyler Altman of Loris and Rita Tyler and Betty Tyler both of Conway; three sons: Davis E. Tyler, Jr and Samuel Tyler both of Conway and Harvey L. "Gene" Altman of Loris; four brothers: Rev. Eddie Altman and wife: Genewood, Rev. William Paul Altman and wife: Irene all of Conway; Sam Altman and wife: Judy and Paul Altman and wife: Shirley all of Loris; seven sisters: Scynatha Elliott and husband Ralph of Nicholas, Pauline Peavy and husband: Ron of Conway, Sylvia Hill and husband: Glenn of Loris, LLatha Mitchum of Charleston, Bertha Tyler and Inez Stevens both of Conway and Helen Stephens of Macon, Ga.; Grandchildren Aubrey Best and Wife Angela, Sheila Hoskins and husband Jeff, Samuel Tyler, Jr., Davis Tyler III, Nicolette Tyler, Amanda Tyler, Hallie Tyler, Christopher Tyler, Brandon Tyler, Elizabeth Tyler, Catherine Tyler, Andrew Tyler, Rebekah Tyler, Sarah Tyler., Great-Grandchildren: Tyler Best, Austin Best, Emily Tyler, Dylan Tyler, Natalie Tyler, and Mason Hoskins.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel, with the Rev. Earl Spivey and Rev. Eddie Altman officiaitng. Burial will follow in Cane Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Alene Hardwick Johnson
Born in Galivants Ferry on Jun. 30, 1925
Departed on Feb. 1, 2004 and resided in Galivants Ferry, SC.

Galivants Ferry - Alene Hardwick Johnson, age 78 of Joyner Swamp Road, died Sunday February 1, 2004 at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Galivants Ferry a daughter of the late Marvin Bishop and Ruby Edwards Hardwick. She was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church. Mrs. Johnson was pre-deceased by 5 brothers: E. James, Fred, Ernest Issaac and M.B. Hardwick; 3 sisters: Sadie H. Collins, Retha H. Ray, and Pauline H. Hamilton; one son: Dale Eugene Johnson. She was a loving and devoted mother and wife.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, William Eugene Johnson of Galivants Ferry; 2 sons: Marvin Johnson and wife: Susan Barnhill Johnson and Pressley Johnson and wife: Joyce Stevens Johnson all of Galivants Ferry; 3 daughter: Irma J. Bridgman of Marion and friend: Legrand White, Ruby D. Tyler and husband: Dale and Peggy J. Cox and husband Billy Ray all of Loris; one daughter-in-law: Gloria Johnson Todd of Galivants Ferry. 15 grandchildren: Scott, Ashley, and Chris Johnson, Jennifer H. Celentano, Kelly Huggins, Stephanie Bridgman, Jill J. Hardwick, Tracy J. Lambert, Robin J. Elliott, Trenton, Emily, Russell Tyler, Brandon and Jason Cox, Stacy Martin.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday from Rehobeth United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Gasque, Rev. Sam Clardy, Rev. Bert Watson, Rev. Johnny Jenerette, and Rev. Larry Allen officiaiting. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home

James Drysdale
Born in Bradford, PA on Jan. 6, 1928
Departed on Feb. 1, 2004 and resided in Myrtle Beach, SC.

James “Jim” L. Drysdale, age 76 of Horne St., died Sunday, February 1, 2004 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Born January 6, 1928 in Bradford, PA, he was the son of Mildred Lane Drysdale and the late Norman Drysdale. Mr. Drysdale had retired from the US Air Force serving in the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. He also had retired from the US Civil Service. He was a volunteer at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, South Strand Senior Health Center and the Myrtle Beach VA office. Mr. Drysdale was preceded in death by his wife, Olene Bordeaux Drysdale.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Bradford, PA are daughter, Marcy Oliver and husband Skip of Pickerington, OH; step sons, Chester King and wife Joann of Myrtle Beach and Ron King of Beaufort, SC; grandchildren, Sheena and Josh King of Myrtle Beach and Mark and Justin Murray of OH and step grandchildren, Josh and Jessie Oliver of OH.
Services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Ocean Woods Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Ave., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Services for Fred B. Peoples will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Haley Funeral Directors with burial in Detroit Memorial Park-East Warren. Surviving are stepdaughters, Gwendolyn Gooden, Lois Struggs, Constance Stephenson; siblings, Jessie Woodward, Sadie Thompson, Cora Jackson, Janie Hall, Theodore Peoples, John Peoples; 9 grands; 11 great-grands; 6 sisters-in-law; 5 brothers-in-law.
