Cora Lee Braxton
NINETY SIX — Cora Lee Harvey Braxton, 87, formerly of Bolt Circle Apartments, of Ellenburg Nursing Center in Anderson, passed away March 30, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Barnwell, she was a daughter of the late Willie L. and Daisy Nettles Harvey. She was a homemaker and caregiver, working in Aiken nursing homes. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the Ladies Bible Class.
Survivors include three sons, William E. Braxton and Bunyon “Junior” Braxton Jr., both of Ninety Six and Mack Braxton of Anderson; a daughter, Dorothy B. Price of Ninety Six; a sister, Orena Harvey Peeples of Johns Island; three half sisters, Verna Mae H. Price and Margaret Harvey Carroll, both of Greenwood and Myrtle Harvey Boyd of Ninety Six; a brother, Herman Harvey of Bamberg; a half brother, Willie Harvey Jr. of Ninety Six; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 3 Monday at Ninety Six Church of God, conducted by the Revs. J.B. Abercrombie, Milton K. Stubblefield and James A. Patterson. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Dennis Lee Price, Gerald J. Price, David L. Braxton, Kevin Crain, Andy Brown, Oneal Peeples, Tommy Peeples and Charles Peeples.
Honorary escorts are members of the Ladies Bible Class of Temple Baptist Church, along with the Rev. Robert Ayers, the Rev. Milton Hannah, the Rev. Carlisle Grimsley, Dr. Walter Clarke, the Rev. Charles Owens and the Rev. Roy Burroughs.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood.
The family is at the home of a son, Bunyon “Junior” Braxton Jr., 125 Lowell St.
Memorials may be made to Ellenburg Nursing Center, 611 E. Hampton St., Anderson, S.C. 29624.

Curtis Brown
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Curtis Brown, 58, passed away March 30, 2001. Born in McCormick, S.C., he was a son of the late Henry and Lucille Searles Brown. He was a former member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Plum Branch, S.C., and a retired brick mason.
Survivors include two daughters, Ethel Freeman of McCormick and Lisa Morgan of Greenwood, S.C.; two sons, Curtis Brown Jr. and Willie Brown, both of Columbia, S.C.; five sisters, Nancy Morgan, Georgia Blakely and Arlena Brown, all of Greenwood, Lucy Goodwin of Columbia and Mary B. Martin of Plum Branch; two brothers, William Brown of Buffalo, N.Y., and the Rev. Dewey Brown of McCormick; and eight grandchildren.
The family is at the homes of a daughter, Lisa Morgan, 320 Greenbriar St., Greenwood and a sister, Mary B. Martin, Old Augusta Road, Plum Branch.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick, which is in charge.

Willie Henry Garrett Sr.
EDGEFIELD — Services for Willie Henry Garrett Sr., 73, of 896 Plum Branch Road, will be at 1 Monday at China Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Andrew Adams and the Rev. Ernest Gordon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the home or at G.L. Brightharp and Sons Mortuary after 2 today.

Ruth E. Jones Kyer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Ruth E. Jones Kyer, 70, wife of Charlie Kyer, passed away March 29, 2001, in Knoxville.
Born in Abbeville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Willie P. Jones Sr. and Gertrude Cummings Jones.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Juanita) Mitchell of Knoxville; five sisters, Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Cochran of Knoxville, Geraldine Sanders of Cincinnati, Mrs. Sylvester (Roberta) Lewis of Antreville, S.C., Mrs. James (Wilhelmina) McDuffie of Charleston, S.C., and Mrs. Norman (Bobbie J.) Willis of Abbeville; two brothers, Richard Jones and Willie P. Jones Jr., both of Abbeville; and two grandchildren.
Services will be in Knoxville.

James A. Lyons
LAURENS — James A. Lyons, 65, of 69 Arvil Lane, passed away March 30, 2001, at his home.
Born in Laurens, he was a son of Jessie Mae Wardell Lyons and the late Arvel Lyons. He was a Navy veteran, a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church and a retired chief of security with Dutchman Correctional Facility.
Survivors include his mother of Toccoa, Ga.; a son, James A. Lyons II of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Rossie (Jami L.) Davis of Laurens and Mrs. Chris (Jena L.) Pennington of Greenwood; a brother Robert M. Lyons of Laurens; three sisters, Mary Pearl Bagwell of Laurens, Grace Nix of Hartwell and Evelyn Lyons-Douglas of Toccoa; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tony Crouch. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of James A. Lyons II and Amanda Lyons, 69 Arvil Lane.
Kennedy Mortuary is in charge.

Cora Mae Moore
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Cora Mae Moore, 64, passed away March 27, 2001, in Hempstead.
Born in McCormick, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Marie Moore and a former member of Zion Chapel AME Church in McCormick.
Survivors include a daughter, Cassandra Moore of Hempstead; four sisters, Verdell Avery, Lillie Perrin, Alice Freeman and Janie Tolbert, all of McCormick; and two brothers, Milton Moore of McCormick and Garnett Moore of Plum Branch, S.C.
The family is at the home of a sister, Verdell Avery, Cherry Valley Apartments, No. 6, McCormick.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick, which is in charge.

Cecil Mae ‘Dorothy’ Brown
GREENWOOD — Cecil Mae Tribble Brown, 72, of 208 Sycamore Drive, wife of Theodore Brown, passed away March 29, 2001 at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Chappells, she was the daughter of the late Clayton Butler Sr. and Rebecca F. Butler.
She was a former member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include cousins, Ms. Rebecca Butler, Mr. and Mrs. Alphonso Baten and Madeline Adams of Greenwood, Mrs. Mary G. Miles of Washington , D.C., Dr. Horace Goggins of Chester, Mrs. Dee Goggins of Chester and a special friend and caregiver, Larry Chappell of Greenwood.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 2, at Evening Star Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Willie Elmore officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home. Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Ida Argo
ABBEVILLE — Ida Cox Argo, 93, of 100 Langley St., wife of Coy Henry Argo, passed away April 19, 2001, at her home.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Edna Sprouse Catlett
PORTSMOUTH, VA - Edna Sprouse Catlett, 84, of 4000 Block of Greenway Ct. West, Portsmouth, Va. passed away April 19, 2001 at a local hospital.
Born in Abbeville, SC, she was married to the late Harvey Joe Catlett.
She was retired from Norfolk Naval Supply Center and a member of Grove Park Baptist Church.
She is survived by a stepson, Corbin Catlett, of Portsmouth, Va.; two sisters, Virginia Robertson of Ninety Six, SC and Lucille Medlock of Laurens, SC.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Sloan Sprouse.
Other survivors include three nieces, Joyce Leary of GA and Brenda Turner and Elaine Rhodes, both of SC.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2001, at 2 P.M. at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, with the Rev. Terry Riddle presiding.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 P.M.
Memorial donations may be sent to Grove Park Baptist Church.

L.M. Corley
SALUDA — Luther Motte “L.M.” Corley, 84, passed away April 19, 2001, at Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Luther Perry and Ona Long Corley.
He retired from Milliken, Saluda Plant, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth D. Corley of Prosperity and Ted Corley of Saluda; a daughter, Iris Corley Riddle of Saluda; a brother, Joe E. Corley of Saluda; two sisters, Leona C. Brown and Ruby C. Herlong, both of Saluda; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mayson Memorial Cemetery, conducted by the Revs. Ben Herlong and Bill McNeill.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Ramey Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Saluda Nursing Center, P.O. Box 398, Saluda, S.C. 29138. Ramey Funeral Home is in charge.

Allie Mae Deal
GREENWOOD — Services for Allie Mae Anderson Deal, 78, of 554 Goode St., will be at 1 Saturday at Little Zion A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. G.H. Oliver, assisted by Elder G.T. Devlin and the Revs. Henderson N. Louden and Carnell Morton.
The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are nephews and nieces.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the home.
Parks Funeral Home is in charge.

Wilma Louise Hughes
HODGES — Wilma Louise Hughes, 70, of 509 Freetown Road, passed away April 19, 2001, at her home.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Leona Robinson Stevens Henderson.
She graduated from Columbia Hospital and retired from Self Memorial Hospital.
A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the Garden Club, the Bridge Club, the Yellow Jasmine Club, the United Methodist Women, the Council on Ministry and the Charmelette Club.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Hughes of the home and Gregory Hughes of Hodges; a daughter, Jacqueline Hughes of the home; a sister, Doris Stevens Wilson of Greenwood; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood, which is in charge.

Kenneth L. Powell
GREENWOOD — Kenneth Leslie Powell, 52, of 8-H Hyland Terrace Apartments, Smyrna, Ga., passed away April 19, 2001, at Emory Adventist Hospital in Smyrna.
The family is at the home of Wayne and Betsy Powell, 107 Mayapple Lane, Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home.
