R.C. Timmerman
NINETY SIX — Ransom Carroll “R.C.” Timmerman Sr., 85, formerly of 205 Johnson Road, husband of Ruby Cogburn Timmerman, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Charlie Warren and Eunice Maffett Timmerman. He graduated high school in Saluda County and was a retired cattle farmer. He was a member of the Woodman of the World, Ninety Six First Baptist Church, the Adult Men’s Sunday School Department, where he was a former Sunday school teacher, and the church choir.
Survivors include his wife of Anderson; a daughter, Susan T. Calhoun of Anderson; two sons, Ransom Carroll Timmerman Jr. and Dr. Charlie Warren Timmerman, both of Aiken; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ninety Six First Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Robin Fisher and Steve Justice. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are grandchildren.
Visitation is from 1-2 Tuesday at Ninety Six First Baptist Church social hall.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 205 N. Church St., Ninety Six, SC 29666.
Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.

James Wells
Services for James Wells are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc., conducted by Bro. Larry Hackett. Burial is in Jacob Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Flower bearers are nieces.
Visitation is at the home of a niece, Mrs. Jack (Henrietta) Norman, 334 Pinehurst Subdivision.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc. is in charge.

Lee Chappell
NINETY SIX — Lee O. Chappell, 90, of National Health Care of Greenwood and 108 Little Mountain Road, husband of Leola Robinson Chappell, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
The family is at the home on Little Mountain Road.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Matt Cox
ST. HELENA ISLAND — Matthew Alan “Matt” Cox, 29, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 in Beaufort.
Born in Columbia, he was a son of Roy Hayes Cox Jr. and Eugenia Kersting Cox. He graduated from J.L. Mann High School, Greenville, in 1991 and received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Clemson University in 1995. Employed by the Beaufort County School System, he was a member of Holy Cross Mission, St. Helena Island and the Delta Chi Fraternity.
Survivors include his parents of Greenwood; three brothers, Don Cox of Seattle, Michael Cox and Chris Cox, both of Greenwood; maternal grandmother, Laura Kersting of Sun City Center, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Roy H. Cox Sr. and Gladys Williams Cox of Charlotte, N.C.
A Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, conducted by Father Richard Harris. A private family burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
A Christian Wake Service is at 7 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home. Visitation is after the service at the funeral home, until 8:30. The family is at the home of Roy and Eugenia Cox, 107 Stafford Drive in Canterbury.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Building Fund, 110 E. Laurel Ave., Greenwood, SC 29649.

Jimmy Dale
WARE SHOALS — Jimmy H. Dale, 55, husband of Joyce Bryant Dale, of 3113 Poplar Springs Road, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Janie Catherine Moore Dale Merritt and the late H.B. Dale. He was an electrician and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and choir member.
Survivors include his mother of Greenwood; his wife of the home; two daughters, Rhonda Sisk and J.J. Vinson, both of Laurens; three sisters, Mildred Duffell of Shelby, N.C., Brenda Roberge and Joyce Trotter, both of Greenwood; and four grandchildren. Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Roger Smith. Burial is in Mount Gallagher Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Michael Barrett, Tony Barrett, Larry Bryant, Allen Bryant, Michael Bowen and Earl Worley.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of her daughter Rhonda Sisk, 6231 Ekom Beach Road.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

David H. Gilchrist
David Horace “Dave” Gilchrist, 77, of 115 N. Bethune St., husband of Ida Phillips Gilchrist, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 at his home.
Born in McCormick, he was a son of the late David and Ida Dent Gilchrist. He was a truck driver for W.C. Wall Logging Co. and a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, David E. “Boggie” Gilchrist of Simpsonville; three daughters, Mrs. William (Frances) Louden of Ninety Six, Ernestine Aiken of Greenwood and Dora Ann Smith of Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Mars Hill Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Stanford, assisted by the Rev. J.W. Price and Mr. Michael Butler. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is 7-8 Wednesday at Robinson & Son Mortuary.
The family is at the home.

Walter Gunnells
WARE SHOALS — Walter Gunnells, 81, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at Anne Maria Nursing Home in North Augusta.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Frank and Eunice Cole Gunnells.
Survivors include a brother, James Gunnells of Greenville; and two sisters, Emma Ruth Gunnells Loftis of Greenwood and Ida Mae Trimnal of Columbia.
Private burial services will be at a later date.

Marie W. Kinard
GENEVA, N.Y. — Marie W. Kinard, formerly of Greenwood, S.C., widow of Curtis Kinard, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002 in Geneva. She was a member of St. Paul Community Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sisters and a brother.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Geneva.

Marvin Patterson Sr.
CLINTON — Marvin H. Patterson Sr., 73, of 346 Milam Road, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at his home.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Arthur Roy and Rachel Pauline Blackwell Patterson. He was a former employee of Greenwood Mills, Joanna Plant and served as magistrate judge for Hunters Township. He was a member of Bellview Baptist Church and an Army veteran.
Survivors include four sons, Marvin Haskell Patterson Jr., Otis Harry Patterson and Arthur Ernest Patterson, all of Clinton and Nathan Lewis Patterson of Ninety-Six; two brothers, Harry Patterson and Ernest Patterson, both of Clinton.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in Rosemont Cemetery.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Gray Funeral Home.

Cheryl Patton
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Cheryl Patton, 44, of 492 Ashford St., died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at a local hospital.
Born in Abbeville, S.C., she was a daughter of Ida Paul. She attended J.S. Wright High School, Abbeville.
Survivors include her mother of Brooklyn; a sister, Alicia Paul of Brooklyn; a son, Jimmy Patton of Brooklyn; a daughter, Codetta Patton of Brooklyn; a granddaughter; and a grandmother, Lillian Paul of Abbeville.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Flat Rock A.M.E. Church, Abbeville, conducted by the Rev. Wayman Coleman. Burial is in the church cemetery.
The family is at her grandmother’s home, Lillian Paul, 105 Brown St., Abbeville.

Frederick Schlein
Frederick Carl Schlein, 85, of 104 Hillside Road, husband of Mary Ann Lorence Schlein, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at his home.
Born in Akron, Ohio, he was a son of the late Weigand Fred and Mabel Bateman Schlein. He received a bachelor’s degree from Case-Reserve University and a master’s degree from Kent State University. An Army World War II veteran, he retired as director of The Museum in Greenwood, serving from 1980-89.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Talley (Mary Ellen) Kirkland of Savannah, Ga.; a son, Peter Schlein of Savannah; two grandchildren.
Memorial services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by Father Richard Harris.
The family is at the home in Chinquapin.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.

Delia J. Thomas
Delia Jordan Thomas, 85, formerly of 106 Columbia St., widow of Frank Thomas, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at National Health Care of Greenville.
Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Ezekil Jordan and Janie Owens Jordan Pearson. She retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant and was a member of Fraser Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Harley Funeral Home. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 2-3 today at the funeral home.

Hellen Cathcart
Hellen Henderson Cathcart, 95, widow of Albert Lee Cathcart, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002 at Morningside of Greenwood Assisted Living.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel C. and Bessie Hodges Henderson.
She retired as bookkeeper at Greenwood Telephone Co. in 1968 after 24 years of service. A member of First Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and Bowers Circle of the church and the Pilot Club of Greenwood.
Surviving are six nieces and nephews.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Tony Hopkins and the Rev. Anthony Burns. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Ronnie Henderson Jr., Dan Henderson, Donnie Henderson Jr., Jim Leary, Wayne Weeks and Jimmy Thompson.
Visitation is 1-2 today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 722 Grace St., Greenwood, SC 29649.
