Thomas Winn
ABBEVILLE, SC – Thomas Jefferson Winn, 75, resident of 212 Marshall Ave., widower of Mary Bowie Winn, died Monday, July 12, 2004 at his home.
Born in Abbeville, SC, he was a son of the late Claude A. Sr. and Amy Uldrick Winn.
He was a retired supervisor with Milliken Textiles, Abbeville Plant. He was also a mason and a member of The Clinton Lodge #3 AFM. He was a Shriner and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple in Greenville, SC. He attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Abbeville, SC.
Survivors are: a son, Thomas Allen Winn and his wife Judy of the home; three sisters, Sarah W. Newton, Charleston, SC, Lorraine W. Edwards, Greenwood, SC, and Jean Bowden, Parsonsburg, Maryland. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary C. Winn and three brothers, Claude A. Winn, Jr., Robert M. Winn and Jerry Winn.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at 2:00 PM from The Chandler-Jackson FuneralHome Chapel with the Rev. Ray Massey officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites.
The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The family is at the residence, 212 Marshall Ave., Abbeville, SC.
Memorials may be made to the Abbeville Pentecostal Holiness Church, 109 Barnett St., Abbeville, SC 29620.

Services for Cynthia “Tina” Thompson Blocker, of 102 Barley Drive, are 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, Promised Land, conducted by the Rev. James E. Speed Sr., assisted by the Revs. Derrick Scott and William Moore. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Flower bearers are nieces and cousins.
Honorary escorts are members of Ninety Six High School Class of 1979.
Visitation is this evening at the home of her sister, Mrs. Frank (Barbara) Crenshaw, 101 Quince St., Magnolia Place, Ninety Six.
Memorials may be made to Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, PLEAD Center, P.O. Box 3205, Greenwood, SC 29648.

Leola Drennon
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Leola Drennon, 63, of 109 Lewis Ave., died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at Brooklyn Hospital.
Born in McCormick County, S.C., she was a daughter of Sammy L. “Snoop” Drennon Sr. and Olivia Wharton Drennon. She was a 1960 graduate of Mims High School, a former member of Tranquil A.M.E. Church, Bradley, S.C., and was affiliated with Bethany Tabernacle A.M.E. Church in Brooklyn. She retired from Brooklyn Prayer Candle Manufacturing.
Survivors include her stepmother, the Rev. Amanda Elizabeth Wideman Drennon of Greenwood, S.C.; seven brothers, Sammy L. Drennon Jr., John C. Dale and David Calhoun, all of Greenwood, Thomas B. Calhoun of McCormick, Jesse Calhoun of Bradley, Jeffery B. Calhoun of Troy, S.C., and Minister Glenn D. Moragne of Stone Mountain, Ga.; three sisters, Angela M. Calhoun of McCormick, LaRhonda R. Calhoun of Troy and Mrs. Robert (Sarah) Klugh of Abbeville, S.C.; a stepbrother, James Delvin of Greenwood; a stepsister, Mrs. Benjamin (Josephine) Glenn of Capitol Heights, Md.
The family is at the home of a brother Sammy L. Drennon Jr., 304 McKellar Drive, Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Edward Figurski
WEST COLUMBIA — Edward Frank Figurski, 77, of 100 Sausage Lane, husband of Irene Ankuta Figurski, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at Heartland of Lexington.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late Joseph and Philamina Figurski. He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran and retired from I.W. Industries in Long Island. Formerly of Queens, N.Y., he had lived in West Columbia since 1989. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lexington.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Chris Semones of West Columbia and Suzanne Figurski of the home; a son, Edward Joseph Figurski of Holtsville, N.Y.; two sisters, Eleanor Figurski and Terry Figurski and a brother, Walter Figurski, all of Long Island, N.Y.; four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Greenwood, conducted by Father Richard Harris. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park, Greenwood.
A Prayer Service is at 7 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, with visitation afterwards, until 8.
Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 Augusta Highway, Lexington , SC 29072.

Eric ‘Scrump’ Hamby
WARE SHOALS – Eric Edgar “Scrump” Hamby, 20, of 477 Poplar Springs Road, died August 2, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, January 18, 1984, he was a son of Kenneth Wayne and Patti Franklin Hamby. He was a 2002 graduate of Ware Shoals High School, and a service technician for Speaker Works in Greenwood.
Surviving in addition to his parents of the home are a brother, James Travis Hamby; two aunts, Valerie Lisa Eustace of Ninety Six and Melanie Franklin of Asheville, NC; an uncle, Steve Canfield of McCormick.
Eric was predeceased by his grandparents, Edgar and Imojean Franklin and James and Totsie Hamby. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00pm Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Olstrom officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Justin “Bud” Thomas, Tripp Brunson, Jason “Nubs” Gallop, Colby Morse, Kevin Barrett and Brett Douglas.
Honorary escort will be Stephen McBride, Joseph Corley, Charlie Wilkie, Johnathan Hanvey, Will Arnett, Jason Pinson, Bill Allen, David Lake, Van Adams, Rodney Scott and other close friends.
The family is at the home of Jimmy Nix, 158 Mountain Shore Drive in Greenwood and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9pm Wednesday evening.
Memorials may be made to Hamby Memorial Fund, c/o Palmetto Bank, 702 Montague Ave., Greenwood, SC 29649.

Gertrude Wells Jones
Services for Gertrude Wells Jones, widow of Ernest Lee Jones, daughter of the late Jannie Belle Anderson Precha, are at noon Thursday at Little Zion A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. G.H. Oliver. The body will be placed in the church at 11. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Anthony Oliver and church trustees and stewards.
Flower bearers are church ushers and friends of the family.
Additional survivors include 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, one reared in the home, Detrick Leon Wells.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Linda Jones Williams, 234 Wisewood Circle.
Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Lenora McBride
Lenora McBride, 37, of 819 Spring St., died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Roosevelt McBride and Marion Chase Lagroone. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two brothers, Eddie Lagroone of Anderson and Timothy Thomas of Greenwood; four sisters, Mrs. John (Linda) Parks of Cross Hill, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Butler, Vanessa McBride and Mildred Sussewell, all of Greenwood; a friend of the home, Alexis Wilson. The family is at the home of an aunt, Jessie Mae Bowie, 605 Owens St.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Melvin O. Pendleton
DONALDS — Melvin Odell Pendleton, 48, of 171 Robinson St., husband of Elvia McDavid Pendleton, died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
A native of Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Odell and Cora Lee Williams Pendleton. He was a graduate of Dixie High School, Due West, and Piedmont Technical College, Greenwood and a retired employee of Santee Cooper. A former member of Mount Olive A.M.E. Church, he served as an assistant Sunday School superintendent. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Level Land.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Austin Lamont Pendleton of the home and Anthony McDavid of Augusta, Ga.; a sister, Joyce Ann Cunningham of Due West; two grandchildren, one of the home, Amaya Lashae Pendleton.
Services are 3 p.m. Thursday at Springfield Baptist Church, Level Land, conducted by the Revs. Jarvis Brown, Ozena Harfield, John Aiken and J. Robinson. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 7-7:30 tonight at Holloway’s Funeral Home, Belton.
The family is at the home.

Louis M. Stone
DONALDS — Louis Marshall Stone, 74, of 150 W. Main St., husband of Jane Uldrick Stone, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Cartaret, N.J., he was a son of the late Foster Marshall and Margaret Pruitt Stone. He retired from Riegel Textile Corp. and was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Greenville Presbyterian Church, Donalds. He was twice married, first to the late Joanne Griffin Stone.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Michael Stone of Honea Path; two brothers, Gary Stone of Summerville and Charles Stone of Donalds; a sister, Dollie Rice of Latta; four grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenville Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. George Wilson. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial is in Due West A.R.P. Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Pruitt Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Ann Ur
GREENVILLE – Mary Ann Major Ur, age 78, formerly of West Union, died Monday, August 2, 2004 at Brighton Gardens in Greenville.
Born on April 17, 1926 in Greenwood, she was a retired schoolteacher and had taught math at Walhalla High School for many years. She held a masters degree in education and enjoyed sewing. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include: a son, Alexander “Skip” Ur, III of California; brother, Retired Major General, Jack Major, MD of Arizona; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her parents, Clarence Allen and Annette Long Major and brother, Clarence Major preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be 11 AM Thursday, August 5, 2004 at the Ramsey Creek Preserve in Westminster with the Reverend John Compton officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the meadow at Ramsey Creek. The family is at the home of the granddaughter, Michelle Huskamp, 105 Stone Creek Rd., Greer, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the local chapter of Meals on Wheels, c/o Senior Solutions, 101 Perry Ave., Seneca, SC 29678, or Meals on Wheels of Greenville/Greenwood, 15 Oregon St., Green-ville, SC 29605. Lois H. Banks
ENOREE – Lois Harlan Banks, 86, formerly of 3 School Street died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at National Health Care in Laurens.
A native of Lanford, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Henry B. and Florence M. Harlan and widow of Jeff A. Banks Sr. Mrs. Banks was a member of Lanford Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law: Patricia and Alex Babb of Enoree, Carolyn and Ken Cooper of Ninety Six; two sisters, Mary Spearman and Virginia Parsons, both of Enoree; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Babb was pre-deceased by two sons, Henry A. Banks and Allen Banks and a grandson, Mark Babb.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Lanford Baptist Church Cemetery by Mr. Tom Cooper. Visitation will immediately follow the service in the church social hall.
The family is at their respective homes.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lanford Baptist Church Building Fund c/o Jan Hurley, 3795 Hwy. 92, Gray Court, S.C. 29645.

Laraine Bowen
BONNEAU — Edna Laraine Pitts Bowen, 61, of 445 Pauline Drive, formerly of 216 Pitts Circle, Greenwood, widow of William Bowen, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Sloan E. and Mary West Pitts. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and was employed by Pic-N-Pay Shoes in Greenwood. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church, Greenwood.
Survivors include a daughter, Dianna Q. Thompkins of Bonneau and a grandchild.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Wilton Gleaton.
Visitation is 6-7:30 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.

Dennis Moseley
CHAPPELLS — Dennis Moseley, 88, of 211 Fairfax Road, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
