Vernette Halvorson

Vernette Halvorson age 86 of Revere, formerly of Lamberton, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013 at her home while surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Lamberton Church of Christ. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at the Lamberton Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Lamberton Community Center. Stephens Funeral Service - Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Vernette A. Halvorson was born July 3, 1926 at Revere, MN to Alfred and Sidney (Hegwood) Jenson. On March 4, 1944 Vernette was united in marriage to Laverne Halvorson. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Cloquet where Vernette worked as a nurse’s aide. They later moved to Lamberton where Vernette worked at Valley View Manor as a medication aide. Vernette enjoyed quilting, baking, and canning. She and Laverne loved old time music and dancing. They both enjoyed their trip to Branson to see Boxcar Willie. Vernette’s favorite time of year was Christmas. She loved to decorate for Christmas and have her family around her.

Vernette is survived by her children: Don (Betty) Halvorson of Windom, Gary (Marlice) Halvorson of Youngsville, NC, Patricia (Gene) Gores of Vesta, Karen (Roy) Schmidt of Bingham Lake, Beverly (David) MaKarrall of Revere, Renee (Michael) Eichten of Lamberton, Richard (Jan) Halvorson of Springfield, and Vicki (Rodney) Wendt of Comfrey. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; and brother Jim (Marion) Jenson of Sanborn. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Laverne in September 2012, son-in-law Larry Knapper, grandson Scott MaKarrall, great grandson Zachary Gores, sisters Doris Parker and LJ Jenson, and brothers Alfred Jr. and Lowell Jenson.

Kathleen Maguire

Kathleen Ida Maguire age 88 of Walnut Grove passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at Valley View Manor in Lamberton.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.

Visitation is 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Interment is in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service - Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Kathleen was born July 21, 1924 in Holland, MN to Albert and Ida (Leopold) Dietz. She graduated from Pipestone High School in 1942 and attended college in Mankato for teaching. On August 19, 1950 she was united in marriage to Rodney Maguire in Minneota. Kathleen graduated from Southwest State in Marshall in 1971 with her B.S. in education. She began her teaching career in Lake Wilson before moving to Walnut Grove to teach. Kathleen was principal of the all female operated school in Revere for several years before returning to Walnut Grove to finish her career retiring after 37 years. She enjoyed her retirement years. Kathleen was active on the Laura Ingalls Wilder committee. She was a member of the Holly Flower Club, 20th Century Women’s Club, Walnut Grove Auxiliary, and Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the Circle. Kathleen was in a card club and enjoyed playing cards. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, and going camping.

Kathleen is survived by her husband Rodney of 62 years; children: Paul (Donna) Maguire of Roseboro, NC, Jocelyn (Tim) Wester of Westbrook, Peter (Faith) Maguire of Walnut Grove, Laurie (Justin) Jacobson of Detroit Lakes, and Rhonda (Jeff) Wilber of Sioux Falls, SD; 11 grandchildren: Patrick, Jared, Angie, Ben, Gretchen, Anthony, Nicki, Leslie, Zachary, Ashlee, and Lucas; 13 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Clifford and Ivan Dietz.

Richard Ourada

Richard “Dick” A. Ourada age 67 of Walnut Grove passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester after a battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove with Pastor Tim Holt officiating. Casketbearers will be Rick, John, Jason and Steve Ourada.

Visitation is 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Stephens Funeral Service - Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Richard Ourada was born February 24, 1946 in Tracy, MN to Lad and Mae (Harlan) Ourada. He attended school in Walnut Grove. Dick enlisted in the US Navy serving as Military Police and was stationed in Charleston, SC and Europe. Following his discharge he returned to Walnut Grove. On October 14, 1967 he was united in marriage to Vickie Wells in Tracy. Dick worked at the blacksmith shop with his dad and brother. He later worked at Fagen Brownlee & Hayes for 27 years, and most recently at Mid State Mechanical as a supervisor. Dick was a member of the Walnut Grove American Legion. He enjoyed watching golf, especially Tiger Woods, baseball, especially the Twins, and cops shows. Dick loved spending time in his backyard, barbequing, bird watching, gardening, and taking care of his yard. He also enjoyed bullhead fishing.

Dick is survived by his children: Rick (Connie) Ourada of Walnut Grove, John (Teresa) Ourada of Walnut Grove, and Jason (Lisa) Ourada of Wabasso; grandchildren: Jessica, Derick, Joshua, Jillian, Cora Mae, Evelyn, David, and John Jr.; step grandchildren: Nicholas Goblirsch, Lacey DeGreeff, Joshua DeGreeff, and Abra Johnson; brother Steve (Bette) Ourada of Walnut Grove; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Vickie, granddaughter Emma, and sister Rose Dehn.

Lorraine Petersen

Lorraine M. Petersen age 92 of Westbrook, formerly of Storden, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Walnut Grove.

Lorraine was born August 19, 1920 on the family farm by Revere to Severin and Elvina (Kenly) Kopperud. She attended School District 4 between Westbrook and Revere. On October 10, 1947 she was united in marriage to Howard M. Petersen. They lived in north central Minnesota a couple of years. Howard received his teaching degree and taught in Whittier, California. Lorraine worked for Signa Corp. (Life Insurance Company). When Howard retired, they moved back to Minnesota and lived in Richfield for a number of years. Shortly after Howard passed away, Lorraine fractured her pelvis and moved in with her nephew Don. They resided in Carver for 5 years before Don retired and they moved to Storden where they lived for 5 years. Lorraine entered Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center in November 2010 where she has resided since. Lorraine enjoyed singing.

Lorraine is survived by her nieces and nephews: James (Debby) Kopperud of Zimmerman, Darla (Allan) Yotter of Hector, Terry Edlund of Richfield, and Don Kopperud of Storden; and many grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard, and siblings Sherman, Francis, Naomi, and Deloris.

Rodney Nackerud

Rodney “Peter” Nackerud age 86 of Walnut Grove passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center in Westbrook, MN.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 24 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Walnut Grove.

Visitation is 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial is in the church cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service - Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Rodney “Peter” Nackerud was born March 3, 1927 in Tracy, MN to Andrew and Julia (Olson) Nackerud. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Rodney attended Bakken country school and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1945. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Shanghai, China. In 1947, Rodney came back to spend his life farming and raising cattle. He farmed until he was 70 years old. On January 12, 1980 he married Anna Belle Haensel in Tracy, Minnesota. Even though he battled polio, Rodney didn’t let it hold him back. He continued farming, riding snowmobile and motorcycle, and he enjoyed hunting. Rodney was a member of the VFW and American Legion for 68 years.

Rodney is survived by his wife Anna; step children Robin Groess of Walnut Grove and Robert Groess of Effie; nieces and nephew: Nancy (Dave) Herder of Walnut Grove, Kay (Mark) Koblegard of Walnut Grove, Al (Linda) Bakken of Belgrade, MT, and many other nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leif, Alf, Harry, Franz, and Rolf Nackerud, sister Margie Bakken, and great nephew Derek Bakken.

Delores Rupp

Delores M. Rupp age 81, formerly of Avoca Township and Dovray, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray.

Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Interment is in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service - Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Delores was born July 30, 1931 in Des Moines River Township, Murray County, MN to Hobart and Pauline (Iverson) Engen. She was baptized on November 8, 1931 and confirmed June 9, 1946 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Delores attended country school District 53. On April 10, 1954 she was united in marriage to Arlo Rupp at her parent’s home. Together they lived on the Rupp family farm south of Westbrook. They farmed until Arlo passed away. Delores later moved to her parent’s farm to care for her dad. She also helped cooked at the restaurant. In October 2003 Delores had an accident and entered Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center. In March 2004 she moved to the nursing home in Fulda to be near her brother. Delores was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA, helped with quilting, and belonged to the Dorcas Bible Study Society. Delores was a good cook, enjoyed embroidery, and dancing with Arlo in her younger years.

Delores is survived by her cousins: Lois (Smokey) Silvernale of Newton, KS, Don (Sally) Johnson of Minneapolis, Ruby Yochem, Helen Iverson, and Vonnie Hollingsworth, all of Dovray, Iola Bergman of Minneapolis, and Doris Reinhard of Isle; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Arlo, and brother Roger Engen.

Uvonne Van Hecke

Uvonne Van Hecke age 74 of Mankato, formerly of Walnut Grove died Friday, April 26, 2013 of renal failure at St. Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday May 1st at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.

Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service - Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Uvonne Dorothy Jones Van Hecke, born the loving daughter of Harold Charles and Dorothy May Darroch Jones on November 25, 1938 on the family farm in Mapleton Township, southeast of Mapleton, Minnesota. Uvonne Dorothy Jones Van Hecke was baptized in the United Church in Mapleton on April 2, 1944. She was confirmed and became a member of English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove on March 17, 1963. Educated in the Mapleton Public Schools and a graduate of Mankato State College in Home Economics, Science and Business Education, Uvonne earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in July, 1959. She came to Walnut Grove in August, 1959 to serve as the Vocational Home Economics teacher. She married, July 1, 1961 and loved sharing her life with Dick Van Hecke. Uvonne was the proud and devoted mother of three children, John, JoNes and David and grandmother of Jack, Kate, Reggie and Duncan. Uvonne died on Friday, April 26, 2013 of renal failure.

She is survived by her husband, children, daughters-in-law Betsy Warnken Van Hecke and Tricia Horning Van Hecke, and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, Neil and Flossy Heichert Darroch and Charles E. and Gertrude Jaeger Jones.

Hildur Benson

Hildur Maria (Anderson) Benson age 93 of Westbrook passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at Westbrook Good Samaritan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Westbrook.

Hildur Maria Anderson was born March 7, 1920 in Moline, Illinois to Swan Martin and Ebba Florence (Klingberg) Anderson. She attended Northwestern Bible College. On June 13, 1949 Hildur was united in marriage to C. Rodney Benson in Trenton, Wisconsin.

Hildur is survived by her children: Rebecca Benson of Richfield, Kyle Benson of Griswold, IA, Thomas (Marilyn) Benson of Watertown, SD, and Lois (Dana) Nyquist of Golden Valley; grandchildren Ann Marie (Alvin) Esh, Erik (Julie) Benson, Kelly Benson, Sarah Benson, Jane Nyquist, and Abigail Nyquist; great grandchildren: Shalom, Kendal, and Giovanni; and sister Ruth (Anderson) Urban. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, sisters Ellie Loquist Damewood and Esther Wesenberg, and brother Martin Anderson.

Howard Bloch

Howard Lester Bloch age 90 of Westbrook, formerly of Fridley and Rush City, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013 at Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Westbrook Senior Center.

Howard Lester Bloch was born April 8, 1923 in Westbrook, MN to Herman and Caroline (Frank) Bloch. He attended School District #59 and Dunwoody Institute for machine shop. In 1946 he married Lorraine Warren in Jeffers. Howard served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1948 doing mine sweeps on the USS Greenlet. After the service, they moved to Minneapolis and also lived in Hilltop and Fridley until 1969. Howard worked for the Sioux Line Railroad and Great Northern which became Burlington Northern. After retirement from Onan, he moved to Rush City until 1978 and then to Westbrook in 1983 where he has resided since. Howard was a member of the VFW and Eagles Club. He enjoyed reading.

Howard is survived by his sons Kenneth Bloch of Columbia Heights and Bradford Bloch of Fridley; granddaughter Anna (Scott) of Scotland; great grandchildren Bayleigh and Harrison; step children: Bob (Carol) Taylor, Sandra (Cy) Fashnecht, and Ernie (Susan) Taylor and their families. He is also survived by sister Irene Spensley of Columbia Heights, sisters-in-law Ginger Bloch of Bigfork and Cheryl Bloch of Aitkin, and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson Derek Bradford Howard Bloch, long-time companion Dorothy Taylor, brothers Carl and John, sister Amanda, and brothers in law Roy and Clarence.

Adeline M. Burns

Adeline Mary “Curly” Burns age 77 of Westbrook passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 23, 2011 at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Westbrook.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Westbrook Funeral Home with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service to follow. Adeline was born September 30, 1933 in Belfast Township, Murray County, MN to Ferdinand and Catherine (Hermeling) Hempel. She was baptized October 8, 1933 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Fulda. On February 21, 1955, Adeline was united in marriage to George Burns in Avoca, MN. Together the couple lived in Westbrook most of their lives. Adeline was a devoted wife and mother. She was a very active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Adeline enjoyed quilting, crocheting and embroidering. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandkids. She also enjoyed crosswords, reading, gardening, fishing and playing cards.

She is survived by her children: Craig (Teri) of Windom, Debra (Boyd) Pack of Farmington, Kevin (Cindy) of Webster, Keith (Jodi) of Westbrook, Steven of Lakefield, and Nancy (Dan) Rehder of Rosemount; eleven grandkids; four step grandkids; one great grandson; three sisters: Eileen McCormick of Plymouth, Mary (Pete) Duinkerken of Worthington, and Teresa Allen of Estherville, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband George, son Dean, grandson Devon, and brothers Joe and Edward Hempel.

Doris Cohrs

Doris Jeanne Cohrs age 83 of Dovray passed away Monday, June 10, 2013 at Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Westbrook.

Doris Jeanne was born May 22, 1930 in Lindsay, NE to Fred and Agnes (Kurtenback) Beierman. She was baptized and confirmed at Holy Family Church. Doris graduated from Holy Family Church School in 1948. She moved to Dovray to help her brother and sister-in-law. She met Donald Cohrs and they were married on March 2, 1950 in Yankton, SD. Doris worked at Rucker, AL while Donald was in the service. They returned to farm near Dovray for a year and then lived near Norfolk, NE where Doris worked at Mary’s Café. The couple returned to Dovray to farm for over 40 years. Donald retired in 1993 and they moved to town. Doris worked various places in the area including Rolling Hills Golf Club and T-Tommy’s Restaurant. She was a member of the Dovray Auxiliary where she served as 2nd District President. Doris was active in her church including CCW and helped at Our Saviors in Dovray whenever needed. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, and fishing. Doris loved cleaning, baking, catering, and being with people. She was well known for her potato salad and egg coffee. Doris also loved teasing and spoiling her grandkids and great grandkids.

Doris is survived by her children: Julie (Robert) Cohrs Barker of Jeffers, Darcy (Dave) Benson of Fargo, ND, Craig (Robin) Cohrs of Douglas, WY, and Shannon (Angie) Cohrs of Dovray; grandchildren: Rachael, Justin and Jordan Pudenz, Marcus, Heather, Josh, and Don Cohrs, Caleb and Felicia Cohrs, Chad, Mitch and Alex Benson; and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings: Fred (Hope) Beierman of Moses Lake, WA, Dolly (Jim) Frazier of Phoenix, AZ, Carole Walker and Charlene (Fred) Suter, both of East Wenatchee, WA, and Jerry (Connie) Beierman of Grand Coulee, WA; brother-in-law Francis (Beverly) Cohrs of Westbrook; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, brothers Melvin, Don, Bill, Swede, and Jack, sisters Wilma German, Mary Ann Fischer, and Pat Stone, and sister-in-law Elaine Swart.

Barbara Jansma

Barbara Jane Jansma age 81 of Westbrook passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 27 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Westbrook.

Visitation is 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Westbrook Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. There will be no reviewal at the church Monday morning. Burial is in Westbrook Cemetery. Barbara Jane Jansma was born June 20, 1931 to Arthur and Ruth (Boyd) Tibbits in Detroit, Michigan. At age seven she was born again when she trusted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She married the late Gerrit Joseph Jansma on March 4, 1950 and settled on a farm near Currie. A year later they moved to the family farm south of Walnut Grove. She has been an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Westbrook where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served her Lord and others. Barb had the gifts of sewing, cooking and hospitality that brought a lot of joy and laughter to family, friends, missionaries and countless others through the years. Her love of reading made her grateful for and a frequent visitor of the local library.

Barbara is survived by her nine children with their spouses: Richard (Chris) Jansma of North St. Paul, Helen Jansma of Robbinsdale, Jan (Roy) Beacham of Plymouth, Beth (Charles) Waggoner of Rockford, IL, Brian (Deb) Jansma of Baxter, Sue (Mark) Davis of Marietta, GA, Steve (Sue) Jansma of Rice, Esther (Brad) Lewis of Colorado Springs, CO, Lisa (Steve) LeBlanc of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; 25 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and one sister, Emily Jansma, of Columbus, OH. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerrit; her parents Arthur and Ruth Tibbits; three brothers, Charles, Arthur and John; two grandsons, Aaron and Samuel; and one great grandchild.

LaDonna Jensen

LaDonna Marguerite Jensen age 79 of Westbrook, formerly of Walnut Grove, passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.

LaDonna Marguerite Swanson Jensen was born April 24, 1934 in Tracy, MN to Joseph N. and Esther M. (Cox) Swanson. She was baptized on June 1, 1935 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. LaDonna grew up and attended school in Walnut Grove. As a child, she played on the banks of the Plum Creek (actual home of Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the Little House on the Prairie books). LaDonna worked most of her life. She sold tickets and was an usher in the theater in Walnut Grove. After graduation in 1953, LaDonna attended beauty school in Minneapolis. She worked in a salon in Walnut Grove, which she later purchased. On August 28, 1954 she was united in marriage to Arnold C. Jensen. To this union four children were born: Paula, Jeffrey, Cornell, and Amy. LaDonna and Arnie lived in Westbrook, Fargo, Jamestown, Fargo, and Big Stone City. Then they moved back to Westbrook in 1967. LaDonna worked for Laura Anderson for many years. In 1978, she opened LaDonna’s Beauty Shop next to Arnie’s barber shop. She loved her many ladies whom she saw every week for 55 years. LaDonna was a member of the Westbrook VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed working with her flowers outside every summer; pansies and gerbera daisies were among her favorites. LaDonna loved her coffee, and the wonderful friends she drank it with. She loved her family and friends more than words can say. LaDonna was so very proud of her children and grandchildren.

LaDonna is survived by her husband Arnold Jensen; son Jeffrey (Rhonda) Jensen; daughter Amy (Lee) Schmalz; grandchildren Shane and Lindsay Jensen; step grandchildren Jacob (Erica) and Stacia Gleitz; and great grandchildren Kiara and Kashen. She is also survived by nieces and nephews: Linda Bergs, Susan Larson, Kevin (Jayne) Swanson, Debra (Ross) Johnson, and a host of family and friends. LaDonna will be missed by many; she was a blessing to everyone who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Esther Swanson-Nelson, step father Victor Nelson, brother James (Delores) Swanson, auntie Marge Moore, daughter Paula, and son Cornell.

Frances Jorgenson

Frances Anna (Vosberg) Jorgenson age 80 of Westbrook passed away surrounded by her loving family at her home on Monday, April 29, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4 at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook.

Visitation is 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Westbrook Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial is in the Westbrook Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service - Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Frances was born August 22, 1932 in Dovray Township, MN, to Lawrence and Martha (Cohrs) Vosberg. She was baptized on September 18, 1932 and confirmed on April 14, 1946. Frances attended District #31 and #105, and graduated from Westbrook High School. On June 12, 1950 she was married to LeMoyne Kenneth Jorgenson in Dovray Township. Frances’ heart was her family. She loved, enjoyed, and nurtured her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by leaving a legacy of faith, generosity, service, compassion, hospitality, wisdom, conviction, loyalty, and devotion. Frances was truly the hands and feet of Jesus. Frances served her church as a Sunday School and VBS teacher, and WELCA member. She was actively involved in Church Council, Bible Study and Mission Action, and as a prayer chain leader. She enjoyed baking, cake decorating, ceramics, gardening and canning, crocheting, and knitting. Frances loved painting, refurbishing furniture, sewing and quilting, and playing the piano and organ.

Frances is survived by her husband LeMoyne Jorgenson; children: Bruce (Joan) Jorgenson of Westbrook, Kathy (Dale) Schmidt of Garvin, David (Laurel) Jorgenson of Westbrook, Susan (Steven) Schmitt of Long Lake, Joanne (Gordon) Cannon of Calgary, Alberta, and James (Nikki) Jorgenson of Westbrook. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Ryan (Amy) Jorgenson, Sara (Levi) Sanders, Christopher Schmidt, Nichole (Jason) Swan, Stacie (David) Rentschler, Eric (Manda) Jorgenson, Scott (Jessie) Jorgenson, Amy (Paul) Kubista, Renae (Robert) Von Kaenel, Kelly Schmitt, Victoria Cannon, Blake Cannon, Jack Jorgenson, and Katherine Jorgenson; and 22 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, son Jon Paul, and grandson Lee Jon Schmidt, brother Leo Vosberg, and sister Arlene Lintner.

Curtis Murray

Curtis R. Murray age 85 of Revere, formerly of California, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at his home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Westbrook Funeral Home.

Curtis R. Murray was born February 24, 1928 in El Monte, CA to George and Fern (Smith) Murray. He attended Columbia Grammar School and El Monte Union High School. On March 19, 1950 he was united in marriage to Gladys Hansen. Curtis enjoyed growing plants and did nursery work in California. He was very musically inclined, loved woodworking, and collecting antiques.

Curtis is survived by his wife Gladys of 63 years; children: Sandra (Richard) Weedman of Lamberton, Diana (Alan) Normandin of Iowa, and James (Michelle) Murray of Revere; grandchildren: Amy, Michelle, Lynn, Heather, Jeremy, and David; 12 great grandchildren; and brothers Mark and Walter Murray. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Murray, brothers Conklin and Robert, and sisters Juanita and LaVonne.

Stanley “Red” Egenes

Stanley “Red” Egenes age 72 of Slayton, formerly of Storden, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at his home in Slayton while surrounded by his family after an extended illness.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. Friday until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be held at Amo Lutheran Cemetery south of Storden. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Stanley “Red” Egenes was born October 20, 1940 on the family farm south of Storden to Lars and Dessie (Earp) Egenes. He was baptized December 15, 1940, and was confirmed in faith in 1955 both at Amo Lutheran Church near Storden. Red graduated from Storden High School in 1959, and attended Jackson Vo Tech earning a degree in accounting. He worked for Horkey Construction in Windom before entering the Army Corps of Engineers in 1961. Red served until he received his honorable discharge in December 1963. On June 2, 1962, Red was united in marriage to Ruth Schuknecht at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Okabena. In 1966, they moved to Slayton. He later earned his Bachelor Degree in Business at Southwest State University in Marshall. Red worked for several accounting firms before establishing his own business. Red was also an Enrolled Agent & Broker and was licensed in Real Estate and Appraisals. He was diagnosed November 27, 2012. Red belonged to the Slayton American Legion and served on the Slayton Fire Department.
He was also a Jaycee for many years, playing softball and working as a clown. Red was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he assisted with accounting. He enjoyed watching sports especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He also enjoyed fellowship and playing cards, and spending time with his family & friends.

Red is survived by his wife Ruth; children: Lori (Rick) Johnson of Marshall, Randy of Hawarden, IA, and Darrin (Lisa) of Watertown, NY; seven grandchildren and a great granddaughter; siblings: Harriet Moller of Jeffers, David (Rozzie) Egeness of Lamberton and Linda Pauling of Virginia, MN; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Frank and LeRoy, and sisters Patty (Darrel) Banse and Cheryl Pabst.

Curtis L. Vien

Curtis Vien, age 88 of Livermore, CA, formerly of Redwood Falls passed away on July 19, 2009 in Livermore. Due to Curtis’s wishes no public services will be held at this time. Curtis L. Vien was born on May 18, 1921 in Havre, Montana to John and Ida (Dutseth) Vien. He attended Montevideo High School and California College of Mortuary Science. Curtis was united in marriage to Doris Long on February 14, 1943. He served in the United States Army from 1943 until 1947, when he was honorably discharged. He lived in Redwood Falls, Minnesota where he was a medical representative for Wyeth Laboratory for 35 years. Doris passed away on April 14, 1996 and Curt later located to Sioux Falls, SD, then to California. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Curtis is survived by his son Mark Vien and wife Suzanne of Livermore, CA.

Lynn Bergum

Lynn Bergum, age 59, of Morton, formerly of Redwood Falls, died Monday, May 4th at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

Funeral services will held be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 8th at Cornerstone Christian Church in Redwood Falls with Pastor Mike Moser officiating.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.

Lynn Bergum was born January 4, 1950 in Redwood Falls to George and Gert (Wolverton) Mann. She graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1968 and worked at various places in the area including Control Data, Service Enterprises and Jackpot Junction. Lynn married Chuck Bergum on April 19, 1980 and they have resided in Morton since 1998. She enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Chuck; two children: Kim (March) Allex of Renville and Brandon Bergum of Franklin; her two grandsons, Jordan Freitag of Renville, Keegan Bergum of Huron, SD; and her granddaughter, Kaylie Bergum of Redwood Falls. Also surviving are two sisters: Kathy (and Lonnie) Feeler of Coffeyville, KS, Marcia (and Chuck) Dyson of Wichita, KS; and six nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dick; and her sister, Judi (Mann) Thomas.

Agatha DeBuhr

Agatha Frances Moriarity Hufford DeBuhr, "Farmer and Housewife" (mother of Nancy Bauer) age 91 of Alexandria, formerly of Morris, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2010.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Interment is in Calvary Cemetery in Morris at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 9. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Agatha was born August 2, 1919 in Darnen Township in Stevens County to Charles and Charlotte (Lawler) Moriarity. She was baptized and confirmed at Assumption Church in Morris. Agatha attended Rural School District 47. She married Hugh Hufford on September 27, 1942. Together they farmed south of Morris for several years, until his death in 1965. She then held several interesting jobs including working at a bakery, Bon Jos and the nutrition center. Agatha later married Charles DeBuhr on January 9, 1982. They continued living in Morris for some time, then eventually moved to Alexandria in 1996. Charles passed away on August 4, 1998. She most recently lived at Bethel Manor. Many people will miss seeing her walking around downtown and through the halls at Bethany.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Jerry) Bauer; two grandchildren: Shelly (Dave) Havran, & Cindy (Nick) Pachmayer; three great-grandchildren: Will & Charlotte Havran, and Stella Pachmayer; three step-daughters: Arlene Larson, Joyce (Mike) Busch, and Jan (Dean) Monson; step-son Les (Kathy) DeBuhr; nine step-grandchildren: Michael, Douglas, Scott (Leita) and Richard (Adam) Larson, Eric (Katie) and Kendra Busch, Sadie Monson, John and Mitch DeBuhr; six step great-grandchildren: Hallie, Kaden, Ryan, & Tyler Larson, and Talon & Henry Busch; siblings: Dorothy Ziebarth, Thomas (Irma) Moriarity and Joyce (Miles) Collins; brother-in-law Harlen Moe; and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents, two brothers James and Bernard Moriarity, two sisters Mary (Roman) Wagner and Margaret Moe, first husband Hugh Hufford, second husband Charles DeBuhr, daughter Helen Claussen, step son-in-law Jim Larson, granddaughter Whitnee Busch and grandson Luke Monson; and brother-in-law Arthur Ziebarth.
