Nancy Tice Baird

Nancy Tice Baird, 65, of Commerce, Georgia, died Saturday, October 11, 2008. She was born in Jackson, Tennessee on December 21, 1942 and spent her childhood in Martin. She was married to Ancil R. Baird, Jr., for 43 years.
Mrs. Baird is survived by Ancil Roscoe Baird, Jr. from Knoxville, Tennessee, currently residing in Commerce, Georgia, and his mother, Beatrice K. Baird, formerly of Knoxville, now residing in Jefferson, Georgia; son John David Baird, wife Maye Pintor Baird, and children Ian and Sienna; son Andrew Tice Baird, wife Dana Dobson Baird, and children Rollins and Reagan. She is the daughter of James E. Tice, formerly of Martin, now residing in Griffin, Georgia, and the late Mary Rollins Tice. She is also survived by her brother, James Rollins Tice, wife Marilee Eaves Tice, and children Daniel, Timothy, and Seth of Griffin, Georgia.
Mrs. Baird graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Indiana University, Bloomington, attaining several advanced degrees and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia. She had a long career in the field of education beginning as Assistant Librarian at Indiana University, Jeffersonville, Indiana. She then served as Assistant Librarian at Wesleyan College, and later Owensboro Public Library, both in Owensboro, Kentucky. After moving to Griffin, Georgia, she first served as a librarian at the Flint River Regional Library, and then became the Library Media Specialist for Crescent Elementary School and later Griffin High School. Her career in educational leadership began as an Assistant Principal for Curriculum at Griffin High School. As a leader in the Griffin Spalding County Schools, she coordinated K-12 curriculum at the system level before moving to Commerce, Georgia, to accept the position of Assistant Superintendent of Commerce City Schools in 2001. She retired in 2006, only to continue to guide graduate students at Piedmont College in their pursuit of excellence in teaching.
There will be a celebration of her life at a worship service to be held at Commerce First Baptist Church, on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. led by Dr. Carlton Allen and Dr. Bruce Morgan. A reception with family and friends will be held prior to the service at 12:30 p.m. at the church. She requested contributions be made to the following charities in lieu of flowers, Commerce First Baptist Church Building Fund, Susan G. Komen for the Cure/Relay for Life, or Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Raymond E. Wade

Raymond E. Wade, 75, of Lansing, Michigan, died Saturday, September 6, in Lansing, Michigan. Funeral services were Wednesday, September 10, at Bethany Baptist Church in Lansing.
Mr. Wade was born August 30, 1933 in McKenzie to the late Hubert and Lynn Wade. He was a 1953 graduate of Gleason High School, Corporal in the U.S. Army, Korean conflict, owner of Wade's Truck Stop in Gleason from 1966-68, a mechanic, and charter member of Bethany Baptist Church in Lansing. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Edward Glen Wade, and one brother, Eugene Wade.
Survivors include: his wife, Bettie (Dickson) Wade; three daughters, Deborah (Johnny) Green, Beverly (Robert) Smith, and Rebecca (Steve) Voss; two brothers, Billy (Joan) Wade and Hubert Wade, Jr.; one sister, Lyndell Black; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Traci Riddick Martin

Traci Riddick Martin, 29, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at her home. Funeral services for Ms. Martin were held Monday, October 20, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in Public Wells cemetery in Martin. Rev. Joe Williams officiated the services.
Ms. Martin was employed at Kroger Supermarket and had formerly worked at E.W. James Supermarket in Dresden. She was a graduate of Dresden High School. Ms. Martin was born June 19, 1979 in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Martha Adams Riddick.
Ms. Martin is survived by two sons, Seth Blackwell of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Trystan Weatherford of North Little Rock, Arkansas; her father and stepmother, Mike and Linda Riddick of Dresden; her mother and stepfather, Kricket and Jim Martin of Jay, Oklahoma; two brothers, Tony Riddick of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Adam Riddick of Nashville; a sister, Malinda Riddick of Dresden; paternal grandfather, Maurice Riddick of Dresden; maternal grandmother, Mary Hemann of Bartlett; step-grandparents, Roy and Rozan Collier of Martin; and her fiance', Buddy Weatherford of North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Charles Eugene Elliott

Charles Eugene Elliott, 64, of Greenfield, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Elliott were held Saturday, January 3, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Bradford. Bro. James Harold Hazelwood officiated the services.
Mr. Elliott worked for Milan Seeding as a Production Manager. He was born November 27, 1944 in Greenfield to the late Clyde W. Elliott and Lillian Dean. In addition to her parents, Mr. Elliott was also preceded in death by a brother, Clovis Elliott
Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife, Sharon Elliott of Greenfield; a son, Clay Allen Elliott of Milan; a stepdaughter, Melissa Yates of Union City; a stepson, David Mann of Thompson Station, Tennessee; seven brothers, Rube Elliott of Trenton, Carl Elliott of Winchester, Tennessee, James Elliott of Trenton, John Elliott of Trenton, David Elliott of Trenton, Mike Elliott of Jackson, and Tim Elliott of Jackson; five sisters, Thelma James of Jackson, Margie Fly of Milan, Linda Tilley of Trenton, Katie Tyree of Trenton, and Lisa Willis of Trenton; and four grandchildren.

Dorothy Dean Cook Bradberry

Dorothy Dean Cook Bradberry, 71, of Dresden, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at Regional Hospital of Jackson. Funeral services for Mrs. Bradberry were held Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Kermit (Buddy) Travis officiated the services.
Mrs. Bradberry was a retired sales clerk for Vaughn Brothers Hardware and a Baptist by faith. She was born in Weakley County to the late Alton and Ella Watts Cook. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bradberry was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Sammie Leo Bradberry, Sr.; and a brother, James L. Cook.
Mrs. Bradberry is survived by two daughters, Cindy Gallimore of Gleason, and Lindy Bratton of McKenzie; three sons, Johnnie Brooks of Dresden, Sammie Bradberry, Jr. of Dresden, and James Bradberry of Dresden; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Harry Lindon Badger

Harry Lindon Badger, 87, of Dresden, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Dyer Nursing Home. Funeral services for Mr. Badger were held Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at White-Ranson Funeral Home, Inc. in Union City. Burial followed in Hickman City cemetery. Dan King officiated the services.
Mr. Badger was a retired employee of Cinch's Metal Works in Chicago. He was born May 25, 1921 in Lake County to the late Henry Lindon Badger and Sallie Betty (Hargrove) Badger Pierce. In addition to his parents, Mr. Badger was also preceded in death by a brother.
Mr. Badger is survived by two sisters, Jannette Pierce King of Mt. Juliet, and Brenda Lou Kasun of Kenton; and five brothers, Franklin D. Pierce of Kenton, Sherrill Pierce of Mason Hall, Polk Pierce of Whitehaven, Mississippi, Edward Pierce of Mason Hall, and Earl Pierce of Memphis.

John Fleming Pate

John Fleming (Cobb) Pate, 83, of Jackson, Mississippi, died Monday, December 29, 2008, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Pate were held Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 12:00 p.m. at Baldwin Lee. Interment icon followed in Lakewood South cemetery.
Mr. Pate was a longtime resident of Jackson and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He served as a Marine during WWII and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He worked as the District Manager for the Social Security Administration, retiring after 30 years of service. Mr. Pate was a graduate of Martin High School. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn; and his son, Mike Pate.
Mr. Pate is survived by three sons, John Pate (Gwen), Hilton Pate, and Stephen Pate; grandchildren, Andy Pate and Layla Pate; one great-granddaughter, Lana; and his sister-in-law, Beverly Carr.

Kathryn Lee Ryan

Kathryn Lee Ryan, 94, of Martin, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Ryan will be held today, Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will follow in East Side cemetery in Martin. Rev. H.B. Fields will officiate the services.
Mrs. Ryan was a homemaker and a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church. She was born December 28, 1914 in Weakley County to the late William Isaac Lee and Lula Bell Butler Lee. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ryan was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ryan.
Mrs. Ryan is survived by a daughter, Marcella (James Franklin) Payne of Johnson City, Tennessee; a sister, Doris Lee of Martin; and two grandchildren, Chris Payne of Greensboro, North Dakota, and Polly Walker of Alexandria, Virginia.

Linda Jones Rogers

Linda Jones Rogers, 72, of Martin, died Sunday, January 4, 2009, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Rogers were held Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Adams Chapel Baptist Church. Burial followed in East Side cemetery in Martin. Rev. Larry Reagan and Rev. Bob Conley officiated the services.
Mrs. Rogers formerly worked for Volunteer General Hospital and was a member of Adams Chapel Baptist Church. She was born April 3, 1936 in Weakley County to the late Hoyte Jones and Virginia Quarles Jones. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rogers was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Jeri Lynn Stafford.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by her husband, Jerry Rogers of Martin; five sons, Derry Rogers of Martin, Bobbie Rogers of Trenton, Don (Buck) Rogers of Martin, David Rogers of Martin, and John Rogers of Tennessee Ridge; a brother, Don Jones of Martin; nineteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Martha Annette Eddlemon

Martha Annette Eddlemon, 80, of Union City, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Hillview Community Living Center in Dresden. Funeral services for Mrs. Eddlemon were held Monday, January 5, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at White-Ranson Funeral Home, Inc. in Union City. Burial followed in Obion County Memorial Gardens. Bro. Don Bowlin officiated the services.
Mrs. Eddlemon was born November 8, 1928 in Alamo to the late T.J. Collins and Mary Collins. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Eddlemon was also preceded in death by her husband, Loyas Udell "Lou" Eddlemon, whom she married June 1, 1989; one sister; and five brothers.
Mrs. Eddlemon is survived by two sons, Bob (Ruth Ann) Eddlemon of Kenton, and Jack Johnson of Peveley, Missouri; a daughter, Brenda (Charles) Cato of Rector, Missouri; a sister, Frances Nordskog of Arlington Heights, Illinois; three grandchildren, Amanda (Justin) Monahan of Imperial, Missouri, Anita (Ryan) Whitener of Festus, Missouri, and Jack Johnson, Jr. of Imperial, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Coben Whitener of Festus, Missouri, Seth Whitener of Festus, Missouri, and Dakota Johnson of Imperial, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

Mattie Novella Davis

Mattie Novella Davis, 95, of Dresden, died Monday, December 22, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Ms. Davis were held Tuesday, January 30, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel in Sharon. Burial followed in Sunset cemetery in Dresden. Rev. George Butler officiated the services.
Ms. Davis worked in the manufacturing industry. She was born February 1, 1913 in Weakley County.
Ms. Davis is survived by a son, Lloyd (Norma) Davis of Huntley, Illinois; two sisters, Tula (John) Serpico of Westmont, Illinois, and Angie (Sam E.) Underwood of Hermitage, Tennessee; and five grandchildren.

Robert Mark Molloy

Robert Mark Molloy, 68, of Martin, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Burial was in Holy Name cemetery in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Mr. Molloy was a chauffer. He was born November 1, 1940 in Bayonne, New Jersey to the late Charles J. Molloy and Agnes Costello Molloy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Molloy was also preceded in death by a brother, Mark Molloy.
Mr. Molloy is survived by two brothers, Charles Molloy of LaVernia, Texas, and Brian Molloy of Orono, Maine.

Roland "R.V." Venoy Miles

Roland "R.V." Venoy Miles, 93, of Sharon, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Miles were held Friday, January 2, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel in Sharon. Burial followed in Tansil cemetery. Rev. L.C. Godwin, Rev. Ray Lainhart, and Rev. Carlon Allen officiated the services.
Mr. Miles worked in the timber industry. He was born October 15, 1915 in Weakley County. Mr. Miles was preceded in death by a sister, Erlene Frazier; three brothers, Tommy Miles, Arthur Miles, and Coy Miles; and two infant children.
Mr. Miles is survived by his wife of 69 years, Wilma Arline Miles of Sharon; three daughters, Sandra (Carlon) Allen of Bradford, Cathy Falkner of Dresden, and Paula (Thomas Clyde) Staggs of Sidonia; two sons, Burney (Brenda) Miles of Sidonia, and Roland Miles of Lombard, Illinois; a sister, Almeda (Newbern) Cole of Martin; a brother, Robert (Kathleen) Miles of Martin; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Sara Davis Carroll

Sara Edna Waddell Davis Carroll, 70, of Woodbury, Georgia, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Carroll were held Friday, January 2, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Manchester with Rev. Norman Waddell officiating. Committal services were held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2009, in Sharon at the Alamo cemetery.
Mrs. Carroll was born October 12, 1938 in Meriwether County, Georgia, the daughter of Julius and Bessie Lee Waddell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Raleigh United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Carroll is survived by her husband, Billy Carroll; three sons, Rex Davis, Jr. of Woodbury, Georgia, David Davis of Woodbury, Georgia, and Ricky Davis of Pine Mountain, Georgia; a sister, Debbie Wilkerson of Eclectic, Alabama; three brothers, James Waddell of Woodbury, Horace Waddell of Warm Springs, and Emmett Waddell of Woodbury, Georgia; fourteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
