Fred Trantham
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Fred T. Trantham died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in an area hospital. He was 87.

He was the son of the late Littie and Sherman Trantham and was a native of Cherokee, N.C.

Mr. Trantham was also preceded in death by a son, Harold Trantham.

He had lived in Cleveland for 40 years and was a member of South View Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Leila B. Trantham, Cleveland; four daughters, Lorine Caldwell, Elaine Shaw, Pauline Tallent and Juanita Spencer, all of Cleveland; three sons, Cecil Trantham, Hoyt Trantham and Fred Trantham Jr., all of Cleveland; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Homes, Cleveland, with the Rev. Beecher White officiating.

Burial will be in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.

Beverly Walters
MCMINNVILLE, Tenn. - Beverly J. Walters died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at a local hospital. She was 41.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home with George Roberts officiating.

Burial will be in Gardens of Memory cemetery.

Archie White
Archie White Jr. died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at his home.

He was a New Jerusalem Baptist Church member.

Survivors include four daughters, Rose, Sarah and Gloria Gates, all of Chattanooga, Ruby Gates, Dallas; two sons, Nathaniel White, LaGrange, Ga., Willie Gates, Chattanooga; two sisters, Mary Wilkins, Chattanooga, Ernestine Cotton, LaGrange; two brothers, Robert White, LaGrange, O.D. White, Chattanooga; 16 grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Garden.

Visitation will be today after 11 a.m. at Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Christine Wilson
L. Christine Wilson died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at the residence. She was 78.

Services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Revs. James Lance and H.M. Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

James Wims
DAYTON, Tenn. - James W. Wims died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998 at a local hospital. He was 76.

He retired from his position as plant supervisor from FMC Corporation in Lansing, Mich., after 33 years, and was employed at the Plant Place in Dayton.

He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of New Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Wims; six sisters, Roberta Dennis, Lansing, Jennie Vee Mullins, Indianapolis, Ind., Jewell Smith, LaFayette, Tenn., Thelma Tuttle, Bethpage, Tenn., Shirley Wilson and Edna Jones, both of Gallatin, Tenn.; six brothers, Delbert Wims, Westmoreland, Tenn., and Rentford, Douglas, Harold, Harlin, and Donnie, all of Gallatin.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Vanderwall Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Ruehling officiating.

Burial will follow in Gravett Family cemetery.

The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. today.

Albert Ward
DECATUR, Tenn. - Albert David Ward died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in an area hospital. He was 92.

He attended Tennessee Wesleyan College, had been a Meigs County elementary school teacher and principal, was a former Decatur postmaster and retired rural letter carrier.

He was a member of the national Rural Letter Carriers Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a member of Decatur United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Gregory Ward; three daughters, Betty Caroline Ward, Decatur, Julia Ross, Plattown, N.C., Mary Langley, Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, Sam F. Ward, Decatur, Ga., and A.L. War Jr., Titusville, Fla.; three sisters, Ruth DeBusk, Decatur, Edna Heird, Maryville, Tenn., and Alice Frances Claborne, Knoxville; three grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Decatur United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Ogle and Chancellor Earl Henley officiating.

The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Decatur cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meigs County High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 242, Decatur, TN 37322 or Decatur United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1255, Decatur, TN 37322.

Arrangements by Ziegler Funeral Home.

Henry Murphy
Henry 'Chinaman' Murphy died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

Estelle Turner
Services for Estelle H. 'Ma Dear' Turner were to be today at noon at New Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Allen officiating.

Burial was to be in Forest Hills cemetery.

Mrs. Turner died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at her home.

Arrangements are by the Trammell Chapel of Hardwick and Sons Funeral Home.

Jack Warren
Jack A. 'Jackie' Warren of Marietta, Ga., died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1997, at his home. He was 67.

A native of Chattanooga, Mr. Warren had lived in Marietta for the past 31 years. A former employee with the Marietta Daily Journal, he was previously employed with the Chattanooga Publishing Co. and Chattanooga Police Department.

He was a member of the Cannan Baptist Church in Powder Springs, Ga., and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Warren was an avid musician and singer. A member of The Warren Family Singers, his singing career spanned more than 50 years. He traveled extensively throughout the Southeast with the group.

He also served as music director at Edgewood Baptist Church in Chattanooga for several years.

Mr. Warren was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Warren.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Warren; daughter, Mary Bea Warren of Marietta; four sons, Donald Warren of Peltzer, S.C., Ronald Warren of Marietta, Tim Warren of Powder Springs, Ga., and Kerry Warren of Kennesaw, Ga.; mother, Evelyn Fiddler of Chattanooga; three sisters, Myrna Smith, Sylvia Hoge and Barbara Goodman, all of Chattanooga; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the East Brainerd Road chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Trivett and the Rev. Gary Moore officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Hills cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Grover Songer
Grover Songer of Rossville died today, Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 62.

Arrangements will be announced by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Faye Tosh
Faye Guffee Tosh , a longtime resident of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at her home. She was 76.

She was a former member of East Lake Baptist Church and at the time of her death was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church.

She was a retired lab chemist from the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant after 20 years and a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her daughter, Suzette Tosh Carpenter, Chattanooga; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Joe) King, Rossville and Mrs. Harold (Jane) Henry, Chattanooga; one niece and two nephews.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Mitchell officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills cemetery.

Visitation will be today and Friday after 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

W.W. Williams, 69, Dies
W.W. 'Bill' Williams, senior vice president of Royal Vendors in Washington, D.C., and former president of the Cavalier Corp. here, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 69.

Mr. Williams' career spanned more than 40 years. This was his 50th year in the soft drink industry.

He attended McKenzie College and was an alumnus of the University of Chattanooga. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Rotary Club of Chattanooga, the Mountain City Club and the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club.

Mr. Williams served in numerous civic and community organizations, including the United Way, the Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Turner Williams; a daughter, Mrs. Kyle (Carol Williams) Price; two grandchildren, Hayden and Graham Price, Signal Mountain; and a cousin, William H. O'Donoghue of Jekyll Island, Ga.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home on East Brainerd Road, with Dr. William Dudley officiating. Olan Mills II will deliver the eulogy.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
