He was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church and of Sevier Lodge #334 F&AM. Retired from Rogers Cadillac with 20 years of service and was owner and operator of Tipton Mower Service for 35 years. Preceded in death by parents, Glen Ernest Tipton and Carrie Bell Gossett Tipton; brother, Jack D. Tipton.

Holt, Dorothy Underwood –age 79, of South Knoxville, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at UT Hospital. Member of Fort Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 25 years. She retired from Woodruffs with 25 years of service. After retiring, Dorothy began volunteer work with the Baptist Hospital Auxiliary and served 22 years. Dorothy was a loving, kind mother and strong Christian and she loved her sweet Jesus. Her favorite song was the Old Rugged Cross. She was preceded in death by husband, Charles Holt and daughter, Gail Hill.

A godly woman who the Lord, she was a faithful, life long Sunday School Teacher and a committed church worker. Member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class. Retired from the University of Tennessee. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Sayne, Sr.; son, Larry; parents, Roy and Jama Lindsay and five brothers and sisters.

Retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service and was also a Navy veteran of World War II having served in Panama as a Navy postal clerk. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Baker and Mary Katherine Oliver Baker; brother, David Landon Baker; first wife, Dessie Davis Baker; and son, John Pascal Baker, all of Knoxville.

Conrad R. Loy

Loy, Conrad, R. was born
on August 18, 1910 and peacefully walked into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, December 28, 2003. He was deeply loved by his family and made friends everywhere he went. Conrad was the son of the late Mack and Martha Loy of Union County. He was a member, deacon and elder of Graystone Presbyterian Church, where he also served as chief cook of the Thanksgiving and Easter breakfasts for 50 consecutive years. In 1953, he and several businessmen chartered the South Knoxville Optimist Club where he served as President and prepared dinner for up to 100 members every Monday night for over 30 years. His career included management of Gay Street’s S & W Cafeteria, and then he was employed in design and sales of stage curtains for Knoxville Scenic Studios, retiring at 77. The last five years of his life were spent in the warmth and nurture of Peggy Reynolds and her staff at Cove View Home for the Elderly.

His wife of 65 years, Mary Evelyn Rogers Loy; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Jay McNeill of Sevierville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathrine; son, Conrad “Randy”, all of Knoxville; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

KELLY, MARDEE C. AGE 82, OF Knoxville, departed this life after a lengthy illness on Monday, June 7, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a former resident of Meadowview, Virginia, and belonged to Mahanaim United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas King Kelly, and her granddaughter, Caitlyn Cerny.

Blackstock, Samuel Huston, of Seymour went to meet Jesus on Sunday, August 15, 2004. He was born
in Knoxville on June 5, 1923. In 1964 he and his family moved to Miami, FL. He returned to his Tennessee home in 1984. He was a courageous soldier who served our country during WWII in the Philippine Islands and New Guinea in the U.S. Army. He was a soldier of the cross of Jesus Christ serving where he was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church and now serves in God’s Kingdom.
