MORIE, GARY LYNN - age 59, of Dandridge, Tenn., passed away Tuesday evening, May 1, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dandridge and the Maury High School Class of 1959. Gary was an employee of the United Parcel Service with 31 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Spencer and Georgia Wells Morie. Survivors: wife, Carolyn Jo Morie; daughters, Angelia Morie and Amy Morie McCall and son-in-law, A. R. McCall; granddaughter, Ali McCall; sister, Vicki Morie Kesterson, all of Dandridge; several nieces and nephews, and many relatives and friends that were very special to him. In lieu of flowers, the family request, memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 246, Dandridge, TN 37725. Funeral services Thursday, 8:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Dandridge with Dr. Robert McCray officiating. Interment icon graveside services Friday, 10:30 a.m. at Hillcrest cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening 6-8:30 p.m., prior to services at the church. Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home, Dandridge.

MYERS, DONNEY D. - age 40, of Sweetwater, died Tuesday evening of injuries received in an automobile-train accident. Survivors: father, Avery Myers of Niota; mother, Margaret Dailey Choat of Cleveland; brother, Johnny Mayers; sisters, Brenda Wheat of Georgia, and Maycie Goins of Niota. and special friend, Denise Myers of Sweetwater. Funeral services 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Loudon Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Charles Cassidy officiating. Family and friends will meet at Foster cemetery, McMinn Co., 11 a.m. Friday for graveside services. The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Loudon Funeral Home.

OAKS, VANDILLA MILLS - age 77, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Holston Valley Hospital, following an extended illness. Born in Hancock County, she had spent most of her life in Hawkins County. Mrs. Oaks was a graduate of Carson-Newman College in 1950, receiving her bachelors degree in mathematics. In 1963, she graduated from George Peabody College acquiring her masters degree in mathematics. In addition, she acquired her +45 hours to receive her library certification from ETSU. She spent her life in Hancock and Hawkins Counties, teaching math for 29 years, and as a librarian for eight years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Church Hill. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Eudora and Dorothea; parents, Robert T. and Mattie Sutton Mills; seven sisters, Laura Jones, Lily McCoy, Doll Greene, Bobbie Ferguson, Jewel Davis Williams, Rosie and Ezna Mills; five brothers, John, Homer, Pete, Ben and Earl Mills. Mrs. Oaks was survived by her loving husband of 56 years, James M. Oaks, of the home, and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, and great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews, along with caring and thoughtful friends. Calling hours are from 10 a.m. - 12 Noon Thursday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill cemetery with Dr. Grant Jones officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews and nieces. Honorary pallbearers will be Enos Ferguson, Rufus Greene, Howard Rhea, Clay Johnson, Wallace Renfro, and Frank Phillips. In lieu of flowers and food, Mrs. Oaks requested you make a donation to the youth program of your church or other children/youth programs. PRATT, SANDRA LAWSON - age 57, went to be with the Lord, Monday, April 30, 2001, at 3 p.m., after a courageous battle with Pancreatic cancer. She and her Loving husband and best friend, Billy have been happily married for 39 years. They are members of St. Paul United Methodist Church East, where she is a proud member of The United Methodist Women's group. She retired from TVA and is currently employed with Accurate Paper Box Co., a family owned business. She is loved by all and best friend to many. She and her husband, Billy share a Love of Rose gardening, and Ball Room dancing. They are member of The Tennessee Big Orange Travelers, The Knoxville Rose Society, and are former members of The East Tennessee Ballroom Dance Club and The Bronze Club. Preceded in death by her mother, Delora Lawson (Nonny). Survived by Father, Virgil Lawson (Poppy); Husband, Billy Pratt; Son, Brian and Wife Angi Pratt; Daughter, Mitzi and husband Bruce Booher; Grandchildren, Reece, Carson, Tripp and Baylor (who knew her as MeMere); Sister, Brenda Hutchison and family. Special Aunt, Charlene Anderson, Special Niece, SaDonna Price, Special Great Niece, Miranda Frye. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home 10:15 a.m. Thursday and proceed to Caledonia cemetery for an interment icon service at 11 a.m., with Reverend David Jackson and Dr. Amos Taj officiating. Pallbearers are all family members; Husband, Billy Pratt; Son, Brian Pratt; Son-in-law, Bruce Booher; Brothers-in-law, Carl Hutchison, Harold Pratt and David Pratt. REED, TONY - age 63, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was of the Baptist faith. He was self-employed as a General Contractor. His favorite pastimes were coon hunting and watching U. T. Football. Preceded in death by parents, Cleveland and Flora Green Reed; grandson, William Anthony Hansard; sister, Lucille Mitchell; brothers, Mark and Raymond Reed. He was born July 12, 1937, in Anderson County. Survivors: wife, Cathy Carter Reed of Clinton; daughters, Donna and Edward Overbay of Clinton, and Lisa and John Jennings of Clinton; son, Bobby and Jo Ann Hansard of Clinton; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Lyndsay Reed of Clinton, Johnny and Lorene Reed of Clinton, and Gene and Maxie Reed of Oliver Springs; several nieces and nephews. Special Friends, Barbara Burnette of Clinton, Rose Taylor, Carol Reed, and Ray Daniels, all of Clinton. SAMMONS, EARL A. - age 75, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at his home. A retired Knox County Deputy, he was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lillie Young Sammons. Surviving are his loving family: son, Tommy Sammons of Knoxville; daughters, Vonette Clark and Jeanette Grubb of Knoxville; brother, Clarence Sammons of Blaine; a sister, Anna Belle Keller of El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Sammons is at Highland West Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Highland West Chapel with burial following. STRINGER, JEREMY THOMAS - age 24, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2001. He was a member of the Baptist faith. He is preceded in death by grandmothers, Mildred Ford and Martha Stringer. He is survived by mother, Diane Ford and father, Tom Stringer; sisters, Andrea and husband, Todd Flanders, Patrice and husband, Bruce Adams, Denise Stringer, and Jill and husband, Carl Swicegood; brother, Greg Stringer; grandfather, Henry Ford; aunts, Tina and husband, Johnny Moon, and Kay and husband Rick Dunn; uncle, Marty and wife, Judy Ford, and nine cousins. Funeral service will be Thursday, 8 p.m. at Weaver Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Bull and Rev. Jeff Lane officiating. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. at Highland Memorial cemetery for a 1 p.m. graveside service. UNDERWOOD, MARIE - of West Knoxville, passed away 7:52 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Little Creek Sanitarium. Member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden and had been very active in Second Baptist and Broadway Baptist Church. Member of Mimir Book Club and Sun Up Garden Club. Preceded in death by husband, Glenn Underwood; son-in-law, Don Roos and great-grandchildren, Zane and Caroline Roos; sister, Dorothy Dunlap and brother, Jesse Gibson. Survivors: daughter, Virginia "Ginger" Roos; grandchildren, Mike and Betsy Roos, Donna Roos, and Robert and Carolyn Roos Hickam, all of Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Jacob Hickam, and Zachary and Molly Roos. WADE, WILLIAM ANDREW (BILL) - age 84, of Seymour, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2001. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Seymour, a member of Sevier Lodge No. 334 F&AM, for 50 plus years and a Scottish Rite 32 degree Mason. Retired from Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) with 41 years of service and a member of the 25 Year Club. He was an active Republican all his life and a former member of the Sevier County Election Commission. Survivors: wife, Agnes Ailey Wade; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bob Fulwood; daughter, Linda S. Wade; granddaughter, Tracy Rigell Human; grandson, Ethan Fulwood. Mr. Wade is at Highland South Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy., where the family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday. Masonic Services by Sevier Lodge at 7 p.m. with funeral service to follow, Rev. W. A. Galyon officiating. Family and friends will meet at Knob Creek cemetery at 9:45 a.m. Friday for a 10 a.m. graveside service. WALKER, ZIMMERMAN HENRY - age 87, passed away April 12, 2001, in the Princeton Nursing Home in Princeton, New Jersey, of complications from a stroke. He was born December 28, 1913, in Birmingham, Alabama, son of the late Zimmerman Henry Walker, Sr., and Mattie Shanklin Walker. Preceded in death by three older brothers and a sister. He was a graduate of South Carolina State College and a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. He was a Knoxville Police Officer for 30 years, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a faithful member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Knoxville College for 45 years. He is survived by his wife, Julia G. Walker; devoted daughter, Alyce W. Bush, and son-in-law, Charles E. Bush, Sr., of Princeton, N.J.; son, Joseph S. Walker, Sr., and daughter-in-law, Jackie Walker of Seymour, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Lisa C. Bush of Princeton, N.J., Charles E. Bush, Jr. of Philadelphia, Penn., Joseph S. Walker, Jr. of Baltimore, Md., and Kristopher J. Walker of Seymour, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews. Because the First United Presbyterian Church is being renovated, the member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church were kind enough to permit the use of their sanctuary for his Memorial Service on Saturday, May 5, 2001, at 2 p.m., with Rev. WILLIS, ROSE HICKMAN - age 93, of Loudon, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Fort Sanders Loudon Hospital. She was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by husband, John C. Willis; sons, Johnny, Mike and Billy Joe Willis; daughters, Susie Williams, Ella Mae Blair, and Sally Helton. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Ray and Harold Moser of Madisonville, Patsy and Johnny Williams of Cohutta, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie and June Willis, and Ronnie and Nancy Willis; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; four step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 8 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2001, McGill-Karnes Chapel with Rev. Norman Heath and Rev. Danny Stricklan officiating. Interment icon 11 a.m. Friday in Loudon County Memorial Gardens. WILLIAMS, MR. TOMMY LYNN - age 35, of Halls, born April 29, 1966, went home to be with Jesus, Monday, April 30, 2001, at 1 p.m., at his home, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was a faithful member of Ailordale Baptist Church, NEA and TEA. He graduated with a B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee, Masters and Education Specialist from Lincoln Memorial University. He was employed by Union County School System, serving as Maynardville Elementary School Principal. He had a special love for the Tennessee Volunteers in both football and basketball, and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his loving wife, Katie, and one precious son, Zachary. Also survived by his father and mother, Bruce and Wanda Williams of Maynardville; three sisters and their spouses, Judy Bennett and husband Tony, Phyllis Jessie and husband Brian, Karen Wenger and husband Fred, one brother, Eddie and wife Teresa, all of Maynardville; mother-in-law, Carol Boyd of Knoxville; brothers-in-law and their spouses, Randy Lyle and wife Diane of Knoxville, Jeff Lyle and wife Dawn of Johnson City, along with several nieces and nephews. Tommy was loved by all who knew him. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Ailordale cemetery, Rev. Earl Johnson officiating. BISHOP, THOMAS EARL, SR. - age 53, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2001, at NHC Fort Sanders. Born June 2, 1947, to the late Mozella Bishop and John Henry Jacobs. Graduated from West High School in Denmark, Tenn., a Veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received a Purple Heart. Preceded in death by brothers, Willie T. Bond, John L. Brown, Sr., and Samuel Bishop; sister, Vera Rivers. He leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Loretta Mitchell, LaTonya Porter, and TaQuasha Styles (Tommy), all of Knoxville; son, Thomas Earl Bishop, Jr. (TJ) of Knoxville; eight grandchildren; devoted aunt and God Mother, Abbey Springfield; loving sister and brother-in-law, Stella and John; devoted brother and sister-in-law, Henry Leroy and Betty Bishop of Knoxville; sisters-in-law, Katie Bond of Brownsville, Tenn., and Darlene Moulden of Knoxville; devoted uncle and aunt, Sam and Pauline Coach; loving nephews, Elliott Bishop and John Brown, Jr.; God brothers and sisters, Linda and Fred Short of Jackson, Tenn., Saundra and John Yarbrough of Denmark, Tenn.; God brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Mattie Springfield of Detroit, Mich., Odell and Minnie Springfield of Jackson, Tenn., and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
