Maryland Eva Wakeland, 82, of Ten Mile, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Wakeland is survived by her husband, Morton Ellis Wakeland Sr.; a son, Morton Ellis Wakeland Jr., of Dallas, Texas; five sisters, Junie Lester of Virginia Beach, Va., Macie Melvin of Maryville, Wanda Caudill of Bluefield, Va., Mildred Ripley of Lawrenceburg, Ky., and Janet Ailshie of Greeneville; and two brothers, George Burton of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jim Burton of Jefferson, Ga.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at Kingston Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston.
Glenn W. Foster
Retired from AEC
Glenn W. Foster, 93, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at NHC HealthCare in Oak Ridge.
Mr. Foster retired in 1971 from the Atomic Energy Commission, predecessor of the Department of Energy. He had been employed in the engineering division of AEC since 1960.
Born Feb. 10, 1906, in Bradford, Ill., he was the son of William and Matilda Foster. He had both bachelor of science and master of science degrees from the University of Illinois. He came to Oak Ridge in 1960.
His wife, Virginia Foster, died in May 1993.
Mr. Foster is survived by a sister, Mary Dempster and her husband, Charles, of Chester, Ill.; and a brother, Frank Foster of Riverside, Mass.
No services will be held.

Murrel Rex May
Retired in Wisconsin
Murrel Rex May, 71, of Jacksboro, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at LaFollette Medical Center.
A retired salesman, Mr. May worked for the Jeske Co. in Appleton, Wis. He was a member of Cumberland View Baptist Church in Jacksboro.
Born Aug. 5, 1926, in Knoxville, he was the son of Gladys Swaggerty May of Knoxville and of James R. May, now deceased. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In addition to his mother, Mr. May is survived by his wife, Velsie McGhee May; and two daughters, Cheryl Phillips of Caryville and Robin Warnerd of Minneapolis, Minn.
He is also survived by three sisters, Mary Sue Reaves of Pen Valley, Calif., Wilma Keith of Knoxville and Iris Moen of Melbourne, Fla.; four brothers, James Roscoe May of Washougat, Wash., Freddie May and Don May, both of Knoxville, and Bobby May of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Nikki, Billy and Ashley; and by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Bobby R. Wilson officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at the Tennessee State Veterans cemetery in Knoxville. Deacons of the Cumberland View Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
John Elmer Melzoni
Former production manager
John Elmer Melzoni, 58, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville after a long illness.
Mr. Melzoni was employed for more than 30 years at Wabash Alloys in Wabash, Ind., and in Dickson, Tenn., as a production manager.
He was born in the High Splint community of Harlan County, Ky., on Aug. 6, 1939, the son of Pete and Betty Melzoni, now of Clinton. He was a graduate of Evarts High School in Evarts, Ky., and of Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky.
Mr. Melzoni was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church of Clinton.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by four daughters, Cory Watts, Jessica Melzoni and Kim Melzoni, all of Wabash, and Kelly Melzoni of Clarksville; a son, John Melzoni Jr. of Murfreesboro; two sisters, Phyllis Maples of Wabash and Brenda Hatton of Clinton; a brother, Pete Melzoni Jr. of Wabash; two grandsons, Jalen and Jordan Watts of Wabash; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Oct. 3, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Bill Dawson and the Rev. Kenneth Sharp officiating. Jim Meeks will give a eulogy.
The Rev. Bill Melzoni will officiate at the graveside service, to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton. Mr. Melzoni's nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Henrietta 'Deedee' Potter

Henrietta "Deedee" Davidson Potter, 90, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at Mariner Health of Norris.
Mrs. Potter moved to Oak Ridge in 1965 from Pontiac, Mich. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
She was an avid reader, flower gardener and bird watcher, her family said. She also enjoyed knitting scarves, caps and mittens for the children of her friends.
Born Nov. 12, 1906, in Middlesboro, Ky., she was the daughter of Charles Peyton Davidson and Betsy Mae Temple Davidson.
She was the widow of Elbert L. Potter Jr., who died Oct. 16, 1955. A son, Charles H. Potter, died in 1974. A sister, Virginia Cooper, is also deceased.
Mrs. Potter is survived by a son, Norman Davidson Potter of Lapeer, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Ann Potter of Sarasota, Fla.; and a sister, Mary Frances Davidson of Gatlinburg, a retired Oak Ridge High School math teacher.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Carole Lessley and her husband, Rick, of Alpharetta, Ga., Kelly Lonsberry and her husband, Greg, of Imlay City, Mich., Ann Potter of Sarasota, Fla., David Potter of Wilmington, Del., Geoffrey Potter and his wife, Miriam, of Chesapeake, Va., Shawn Potter and his wife, Cindy, of Flint, Mich., Tim Potter of Coral Springs, Fla., and C. Bruce Potter and his wife, Beth, of Longwood, Fla.; and a niece she considered special, Mary Lynn Felsberg and her husband, Steve, of Columbia, S.C.
Theresa Pickrell of Oak Ridge was considered a special friend.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Garden of Memory.

V. Blanche Braden McQueen, 80, of Lake City, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. McQueen is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sue and Mark Saunders of Lake City and Charlotte and Steve Withers of Iron Station, N.C.; and three sons and their wives, Lonnie and Arita Braden of Tampa, Fla., Hurstle "Huck" and Carolyn Braden, and Nickey and Teresa Braden, all of Lake City; and a daughter-in-law, Sid Brewer of Clinton.
The funeral was held Thursday, Oct. 2, at Clinch River Baptist Church in Lake City with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 2 today, Oct. 3, at Indian Bluff cemetery in Briceville.

Edward G. Gottlieb
Retired from U.S. Navy
Edward G. Gottlieb, 78, of Heiskell, died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge.
A former resident of Detroit, Mich., Mr. Gottlieb was a retired air traffic controller with the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve.
He was a member of Norris Religious Fellowship.
Mr. Gottlieb is survived by his wife, Anna S. Gottlieb; a daughter, Phyllis G. Hirsen and her husband, Steve, of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; a son, Richard A. Gottlieb of Chicago, Ill.; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service was to be held at 11 this morning, Oct. 30, at McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Robert L. Hilten officiating. Members of the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard were to conduct full military rites.
The Rev. Robert D. King Sr.
Father of local funeral directors
The Rev. Robert D. King Sr., 65, of Oak Ridge, died this morning, Oct. 30, 1997, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after a lengthy illness.
Mr. King was an ordained minister with the Church of God and served as pastor of churches in Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina and Louisiana. He also served as director of the Servicemen's Center in Seoul, Korea, for the Church of God.
He was born in Barbourville, Ky., on Dec. 19, 1931, the son of Bertha and George F. King Sr. His mother lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, and his father is deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his mother, Rev. King is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shirley R. Freels King; a daughter, Barbara Sue Click and her husband, Gary, of Walcott, Ind.; and three sons, the Rev. Robert D. King Jr. and his wife, Helen, of Corbin, Ky., Joseph E. King and his wife, Barbara, and Glen S. King Sr. and his wife, Sandy, all of Oak Ridge.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren, William Robert King and Ruth Evangeline King, both of Corbin, Aubrey Atkinson, Joseph Domenic King, Magdalene Kate King, Glen Stephen King Jr. and Alexis Elaine King, all of Oak Ridge, and Jodi Click and Tracy Click, both of Walcott; three sisters, Julia Smiley of Nashville, Ann Beard of Louisville, Ky., and Bertha Farris and her husband, Offord, of Cincinnati; a brother, George F. King and his wife, Vera, of Nashville; and by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the East Side Church of God in Corbin with the Rev. Robert D. King Jr. officiating.
Burial will be at Mayhew cemetery in Barbourville.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Oak Ridge Church of God with special remarks and prayer by the Rev. Ed Denham and the Rev. Fred Garmon.
The family will also receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church in Corbin.

Dilyn Shayne Smith

Dilyn Shayne Smith, infant son of Carolyn and Timothy Smith of Clinton, died at birth on Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
In addition to his parents, Dilyn is survived by a sister, Starla Mike Smith of the home; his maternal grandparents, Geneva A. Baldwin of Clinton and Preston M. Baldwin of Karns; his great-grandmother, Ruby Murph of Oak Ridge; and by several aunts, uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles.
His paternal grandparents, Charlie and Sallie Smith of Clinton, are deceased.

Olga Miller, 89, of Devonia, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Miller is survived by two daughters, Patsy Williams and her husband, Gary, of Claxton, and Lana Daugherty and her husband, Condy, of Virginia; and five sons, David Miller and his wife, Pat, of Florida, Jimmy Miller and his wife, Chita, of LaFollette, and Bert Miller and his wife, Shirley, Tommy Miller and his wife, Kathy, and Steve Miller and his wife, Brenda, all of Devonia.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Lee Phillips officiating.
Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.

Mildred Catherine Sisson Massie, 74, of Nashville, formerly of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Mrs. Massie is survived by two daughters, Ellen Massie Musick of Nashville and Mary Dale Headrick of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, Fred Warren Massie and Okey Byron Massie Jr., both of Nashville; a sister, Wilma Jean Clowers of Oliver Springs; and a brother, James L. Sisson, also of Oliver Springs.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Central Time Friday, Oct. 31, in the chapel of Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 1715 Broadway, Nashville, with the Rev. Don Whatley officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time Friday at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
