Melinda Bruno
1963—2011
Mary Melinda Ennis Bruno, resident of Bethel Springs, Tennessee died Thursday afternoon, June 30, 2011 at the Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth, Mississippi where she had been a patient for eight days. She was 47 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Bruno were conducted at 11 A.M. Tuesday, July 5th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Mike Pilcher, Pastor of Munford United Methodist Church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Jeremy Richey, Youth Minister for Selmer First United Church. Internment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home—West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Bruno was born October 22, 1963 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee the daughter of Charlie T. Ennis and Mary O. Harveston Ennis. She was a graduate of Craigmont High School in Memphis and was a former resident of Murfreesboro and Chattanooga before moving to West Tennessee. Mrs. Bruno was of the Baptist Faith and had been a resident of the Bethel Springs Community for the past 6 years.
Mrs. Bruno was associated with her family in the operation of Leaderboard Golf, Inc. in Memphis and had served as a Web-site Designer for the family owned business for the past 22 years. She will be remembered as a family oriented person who enjoyed special times with family and friends. Mrs. Bruno is survived by her daughters: Ashley Marie Bruno and Danielle Shea Bruno, both of Bethel Springs; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Ennis of Cordova; her sisters: Cindy Pace (Mike) of Pelham, AL and Darlene Zweig (Mitch) of Byhalia, MS. She is also survived by the father of her children: C. J. Bruno of Bethel Springs and her fiancé: William Ross Campbell of Hickory Withe.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were family and friends.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.

Mona Lisa Young
Mona Lisa Young was born September 9, 1958 in Selmer, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Dorthy Jean Hutcherson Black. Miss Young departed this life on August 5, 2011 in Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 52 Years, 10 Months, 27 Days. She is survived by a brother, Ricky Neal Young of Jackson, TN; three sisters, Renee (Black) Wilson and husband Jeff of Mount Juliet, TN, Debbie (Black) Greer and husband Johnny of Michie, TN, and Paula (Black) Rhoten and husband Keith of Greenbriar, TN; three aunts, Anne Helton of Bethel Springs TN, Christine Guest of Louisville Kentucky, and JoAnn Lovelace of Cool Springs TN: uncle, Wayne Hutcherson of Selmer TN; stepfather, Dennie Harold Black of Old Hickory TN; two special friends, Diane Edmonson and Marilyn Hines both of Memphis TN; host of extended family and friends.
Services were held on August 7, 2011 at 4:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee, with Jeff Wilson officiating. Burial followed in the Beauty Hill cemetery at Bethel Springs, Tennessee.

Norma Jean Perry Dempsey
Norma Jean Perry Dempsey was born February 9, 1931 in Bells, Tennessee the daughter of the late Barn and Nola Wren Perry. Mrs. Dempsey was a 1949 graduate of Whiteville High School in Whiteville, Tennessee where she played basketball. She was chosen as “Miss Whiteville” in that same year. Mrs. Dempsey had worked as a waitress for Lowe’s Bar-B-Que in Memphis and later for Western Sizzler in Batesville, MS. She enjoyed watching “I Love Lucy” and “The Andy Griffith Show, ” and was Baptist in faith. Mrs. Dempsey departed this life on August 15, 2011 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 80 Years, 6 Months, 5 Days. She is survived by two daughters, Donna Ray (Gaines) Huntley and companion J. C. McCullough of Finger, TN and Bablin Diane (Jack) Smith and husband William of Middleton, TN; two sons, Paul Lee Gaines of Indianapolis, IN and Don Charles Jack and wife Penny of Martinsville, IN; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many extended family and friends.
Services will be held on August 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee, with Bill and Karen Linam officiating. Burial will follow in the Lake Hill Memorial Gardens at Bethel Springs, Tennessee.

Norman H. Shelton
Norman H. Shelton was born August 13, 1957 in Lake County, Tennessee the son of Dorothy Elizabeth Jones Shelton and the late Manuel Ralph Shelton. He was united in marriage to Tarecia Finley on February 17, 1978. Mr. Shelton was a graduate of McNairy Central High School in Selmer. He was a millwright by trade, a member of the Pine Hill Assembly, and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his leisure time. Mr. Shelton departed this life on May 18, 2011 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 53 Years, 9 Months, 5 Days. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Tarecia Shelton of Finger, TN; three daughters: Cassie Hostetler and husband Matthew of Finger, TN, Wendy Shelton of Henderson, TN, and Sarah Shelton and companion Matthew Simmons of Whiteville, TN; four grandchildren: Rose Hostetler, Aaron Hostetler, Amelia Hostetler, and Clayton Simmons; a sister, Laura Bloechl and husband Mike of Finger, TN; a brother, Eugene Shelton of Stantonville, TN; and many extended family and friends.
Services were held on May 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee, with Ricky Sisk and Don Lipford officiating. Burial followed in the Mars Hill cemetery at Adamsville, Tennessee.

Patrick (Pup) Scott
Patrick (Pup) Scott was born in Florence, Alabama on January 26, 1973 the son of Tony E. and Patricia White Scott. On May 29, 2004, Patrick was united in marriage to Tracey Robinson of Adamsville, Tennessee, who survives. Patrick had lived in the Chester County area for 17 years, the Hardin County area for 5 years and the remainder in McNairy County, Tennessee. He was a Pipe Fitter / Welder and was with the Local #614 Pipe Fitters Union in Memphis, Tennessee for 11 years. Patrick was also a member of the Henderson F&AM # 485 and the Henderson Elks Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, working, spending time with his boys, talking and being with his friends. Patrick departed this life on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at the age of 38 years, 5 months, 7 days. In addition to his wife and parents he is survived by, 2 sons, Mason Patrick Scott of Henderson, Tennessee and Slade Scott of Adamsville, Tennessee; a brother, Timothy Scott of Nashville, Tennessee.
Services will be held on July 8, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah, Tennessee, with Chris Kitchen officiating. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church cemetery at Crump, Tennessee.

R.F. Forsyth
R. F. Forsyth was born March 13, 1923 in McNairy County, Tennessee the son of the late William Chester and Arizona Richards Forsyth.
He was united in marriage to Perry Dee Smith on October 24, 1942. Mrs. Forsyth preceded him in death on March 26, 2004. Mr. Forsyth was a retired farmer and master carpenter. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the United States Army. He participated in the China Air Offensive, Central Burma, and India Burma Campaigns and was awarded three bronze stars. He also received the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Forsyth was a member of the Gravel Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Forsyth departed this life on June 20, 2011 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 88 Years, 3 Months, 7 Days. He is survived by two daughters, Jimmie Forsyth and Tommie Smith, both of Selmer, TN; five sons: Robert F. Forsyth and wife Linda of Selmer, TN, Richard V. Forsyth and wife Joy of Corinth, MS, Gregory D. Forsyth and wife Kathryn of Guys, TN, Ronald P. Forsyth and wife Debbie of Corinth, MS, and William Hailey Forsyth and wife Janice of Jackson, TN; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Thurston Forsyth of Selmer, TN; three sisters, Milo Mathis of Selmer, TN, Blondell Wagoner of Adamsville, TN, and Durrell Pickle and husband Billy of Selmer, TN; and many extended family and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Forsyth was preceded in death by four brothers, Gilford Forsyth, Blonsell Forsyth, Parvin Forsyth, and Leonard C. Forsyth; and a sister, Maidell Forsyth.
Services were held on June 22, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee, with Maurice Pinkston officiating. Burial with military honors followed in the Falcon cemetery at Selmer, Tennessee.
Memorials may be made to Falcon cemetery Fund or the American Heart Association.

Rheba Gray
Rheba Gray was born May 13, 1931 in the Pleasant Site community of McNairy County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Oscar and Burchie Holmes Hopkins. She was united in marriage to Ted Gray on May 28, 1950. Mr. Gray preceded her in death on May 7, 1992.
Mrs. Gray was a retired bookkeeper. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Michie, Tennessee. Mrs. Gray departed this life on June 8, 2011 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 80 Years, 26 Days. She is survived by a daughter, Melba Luckett and husband James Kenneth of Jackson, TN; a sister, Syble Hindmon of Marseilles, IL; two grandchildren, Ken Luckett of Nashville, TN, and Kristina Luckett of Memphis, TN; three great grandsons. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by three brothers, Rubel, Billy, and James Hopkins.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer, with Bro. Jetta Forsythe officiating. Burial followed in the Michie cemetery at Michie, Tennessee.

Roland Parker Ganow
Mr. Roland Ganow, 75, of Bethel Springs passed from this life on Wednesday June 8, 2011 at the Regional Hospital of Jackson. Mr. Ganow was born on April 23, 1936 to the late Roland and Ethel Potter Ganow in Broome County, NY. He proudly served his country in the Navy, and retired as an Electrical Engineer for I.B.M. He is survived by his wife of 53 Years, Mrs. Martha Jo Ganow, 1 Daughter Sherri Bellinger (Stephen), 1 Son, David Ganow, 1 Sister Darla Hover, and 1 brother Garth Ganow, 4 Grandchildren, and 2 Great Grandchildren.

Ruby Austin Lee Bailey
February 13, 1922 – July 29, 2011
Ruby Austin Lee Bailey, age 89, of the Hopewell and Sweetlips Community near Finger passed away Friday, July 29th at her home. Funeral services were Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel in charge, Bro. Randy Morris officiating. She attended Hopewell Baptist Church in her early teenage years where she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She later attended First Pentecostal Church of Henderson where she received her own Pentecost experience. Ruby was born and reared in the Hopewell & Sweetlips Community, the daughter of the late Harmon Austin and Stella Webster Austin. She had four brothers; Clarence, Tom, James, and Charles and one sister Jean. She went to school at Sweetlips and Poplar Springs. She married Amos Lee of the Finger Community in 1941. Later she was married to Irel Bailey in 1955. Mr. Bailey died in June of 1985. She worked at Salant and Salant garment factory before becoming a full time homemaker and wonderful mother to her four children. She loved to quilt, garden and work in her flower beds. She is survived by a son, Wildon Lee of Henderson; three daughters, Willadene Seratt, Elaine Bailey and Karen Bailey all of Finger; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild and a brother Charles Austin of Manila, AK.

Ruby Cox Bright
Ruby F. Cox Bright was born March 13, 1942 in Selmer, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Carlie Douglas and Lois King Cox.
She was united in marriage to Robert Lee Bright, who preceded her in death on August 12, 2006.
Mrs. Bright retired from the waxing department of Aqua Glass in Adamsville, TN after more than 15 years of service. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and an avid Elvis Presley fan. Mrs. Bright was a member of the Sulphur Springs Methodist Church.
Mrs. Bright departed this life on August 11, 2011 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 69 Years, 4 Months, 29 Days. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Bright) Spratlin of Jackson, TN; two sons, Lonnie Dillon of Selmer, TN and Dale Bright and wife Christie of Savannah, TN; six grandchildren: Samantha Dillon, Cody Lee, Lauren Smith, Kimberly Lee, Lindsey Spratlin, Hannah Bright; two sisters, Joyce Grantham and Cathy Owen and husband Gary, all of Selmer, TN; a brother, Guy Wayne Cox and wife Mary of Selmer, TN; a sister-in-law, Geneva Dowd of Walnut, MS; and many extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bright was preceded in death by a son, Gary Keith (Cull) Dillon; two sisters, Johnnie Marie Moore, Carline (Cox) Elam; and a nephew, Jamie Cox.
Services were held on August 13, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee, with Zolon Clayton officiating. Burial followed in the Sulphur Springs cemetery at Selmer, Tennessee.

Ruby Sweeney
Ruby Ellis Sweeney was born September 5, 1916 in McNairy County, Tennessee the daughter of the late Richard Henry and Mary Viola Sanders Ellis. She was united in marriage to Byrd Sweeney who preceded her in death on July 13, 1983. Mrs. Sweeney was a member of Bethel Springs Presbyterian Church. She worked at the Milan Arsenal from 1950 until 1957. She later worked as a waitress for various restaurants and retired as a clerk with Jaggars Kiddy Shop in Selmer. She was a member of the Selmer Pilot Club. Mrs. Sweeney departed this life on Sunday, July 24, 2011 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 94 Years, 10 Months, 19 Days. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Brisentine and husband Clarence of Selmer, TN; two sons, David Sweeney of Cordova, TN, Gerald Sweeney and wife Sue of Cabot, AR; five grandchildren, Angela Simmons and husband Jason, James Sweeney, Jason Sweeney, Dawn Johnson and husband Kevin, Dina McAweeney and husband Joe; six great grandchildren, Haylea Simmons, Ashlea Simmons, Ryan Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Mikayla McAweeney, Sean McAweeney; a sister, Frankie Crabtree of Gurdon, AR. A host of extended family and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Sweeney was preceded in death by a sister, Altie Hines; four brothers, Parker Ellis, Hubert Ellis, Dewey Ellis, Howard Ellis.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee, with Robert Henry officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Vinson cemetery at Stantonville, Tennessee. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
Pallbearers were John Nichols, Dennis Ellis, James Ellis, Sonny Ross, Steve Mitchell, Sam Summers.

Samuel Timothy Farris
Samuel Timothy Farris was born February 22, 1948 in Jackson, Tennessee the son of the late Rev. Homer William Farris and Ava Ruby Barnett Farris. Mr. Farris was an Architectural Draftsman with H & M Architects in Jackson, TN. He was a member of the Schooner Baptist Church in Waynesboro, Tennessee and served his country honorably in the United States Navy. Mr. Farris departed this life on Sunday, July 17, 2011 in Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 63 Years, 4 Months, 25 Days. He is survived by his wife Brenda D. (Cossey) Farris of Adamsville, TN; four daughters, Tarina Bellm and husband Marty of Olive Branch, MS, Lisa Ashley King of Adamsville, TN, Darla Ashley of Adamsville, TN, Tanesha Ashley of Adamsville, TN; a son, Chris Farris and wife Miriam of Savannah, TN; two sisters, Sue Anglin of Cordova, TN, Cecelia Knight of Bayfield, WI; 12 Grandchildren, 1 Great Granddaughter. A host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be on Wed., July 20, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Adamsville in Adamsville, Tennessee, with Bro. Ronald Carlson officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Adamsville cemetery.

Shirley Lavon Toomer
Shirley Lavon Toomer was born on March 22, 1939. She is the daughter of the late Henry and Addie B. Pollard. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Carrie B. Wyke, and three brothers, Charles Pollard, Otis Pollard, and Henry L. Pollard, and a daughter, Tara Toomer. Mrs. Toomer departed this life on July 1, 2011 at North MS Medical Center at the age of 72. She died of natural causes. She is survived by her husband, Osie B. Toomer of Corinth, MS, a son, Bernard (Valerie) Toomer, a daughter, Kim Jones, four brothers, Kenneth (Georgia) Pollard, James (Ann) Pollard, Jake (Carolyn) Pollard, Christopher (Lydia) Pollard all of Corinth, and a sister, Gaynell Andrews, and six grandchildren.
Services were held at Little Zion M. B. Church at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Chris Traylor officiating.
Burial followed in the St. Rest cemetery in Guys, TN.

Sibyl Matlock
Sibyl V. Rowsey Matlock was born September 29, 1931 in McNairy County, Tennessee the daughter of the late Horace and Lovelle Phelps Rowsey. She was united in marriage to R.C. Matlock in August of 1978. Mr. Matlock preceded her in death on March 10, 1994. Mrs. Matlock was a housewife. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Matlock departed this life on May 20, 2011 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 79 Years, 7 Months, 21 Days. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Main and husband William of Selmer, TN, Rita Dickey and husband Jerry of Ramer, TN; a sister, Betty Woods and companion W. B. of Corinth, MS; a brother, Garry Rowsey and wife Ruth of Counce, TN; three grandchildren, Cecil Dickey and companion Melanie, Curtis McCrary, LaDana Ruth and husband Mike; four great grandchildren, Lora Brown, Matthew Jackson, River Kyle, and Elizabeth McCrary; four great great grandchildren, Raeleigh, Rudy, and Raegan Brown, and Kaetlyn Jackson; host of extended family and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Matlock was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Ayers.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee, with Andy Morris officiating. Burial followed in the Liberty cemetery at Michie, Tennessee.

Syble Earlene Bushart
Syble Earlene Bushart, 76, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at her residence. She was a native of Mississippi and was a butcher for 30 years having been an employee at IGA. She was a member of Poplar Corner Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN. Survivors are children JauRhonda Middleton, Brownsville, TN and Dennis Bushart (Dot), Bethel Springs, TN, sisters, Mary Arce, Floresville, TX, Reba Jordan, Greenville, KY, brother, Harold Bennett, Tishomingo, MS, five grandsons and eleven great grandchildren.
Services were Saturday, June 11 at Old Union Baptist Church, Belmont, MS with Bro. Billy Credille officiating and burial in Old Union cemetery. Pallbearers were Errick Cobb, Derrick Cobb, Darrell Bennett, James Oaks, Bobby Tate and Paul Clingan.

Terry Charles Smith
Terry Charles Smith was born October 10, 1953 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the son of the late Timothy Charles Smith and Louise Smith Ingle Maxedon. Mr. Smith was a self employed carpenter. Mr. Smith departed this life on June 25, 2011 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 57 Years, 8 Months, 15 Days. He is survived by two daughters, Amy Hodge of Ramer, TN, Amber English of Michie, TN; a brother, Theodore Smith of Selmer, TN; two sisters, Caryn Wood and husband Jeff of North Carolina, Toni Maxedon of Ramer, TN; six grandchildren, Jagger English of Michie, TN, Chance English of Michie, TN, Hayden English of Michie, TN, Rhiannon English of Michie, TN, Callie Hodge of Ramer, TN, Blaide Hodge of Ramer.
Services were held on June 28, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee, with Bro. Richard Doyle officiating. Burial followed in the Hope McNairy County Memorial cemetery at Selmer, Tennessee.
