Rheta Brown

PERRYTON - Rheta Brown, age 75, died May 5, 2009.

Services are scheduled for Friday May 8, 2009 in the Fellowship Baptist Church of Perryton with Reverend Wes Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery under arrangement of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton.

Rheta was born December 23, 1933 in Cisco Texas. She married Dewayne Brown November 3, 1951 in Perryton as the first couple to be married in the new church where she was a charter member. Rheta had a great love to share the Gospel with others. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Dewayne Brown, husband, of Hardesty Oklahoma, three sons, Danny Brown and wife Sharon of Midwest City Oklahoma, Daran Brown and wife Candance of Wichita Kansas, Daryl Brown and wife Rena of Coweta Oklahoma, two daughters, Diane Cook and husband Ray of Hardesty Oklahoma, Debby Waide and husband Gary of Perryton, two sisters, Rose Gaunder of Calera, Oklahoma, Jo Ann Kell of Spearman, nineteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren survive her. Her parents, Calvin and Annie Penn, brother Bobby Penn and grandson Jason Brown precede her in death.

The family will gather at Dewayne Brown's house in Hardesty.

Carol Ann Storm

BORGER - Carol Ann Storm, 48, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Spearman.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors Minton Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Cheyenne Clawson, pastor of Cornerstone Church of Borger, officiating.

Carol was born Aug. 30, 1960, in Freeport to O.D. and Garnett Storm. She had been a lifetime resident of the Borger-Phillips area.

Survivors include two daughters, Amanda Osborne of Long Beach, Miss., and Carrie Hornback of Kay-Town, Germany; three brothers, Richard Storm of Amarillo and Alan Storm and Calvin Storm, both of Fritch; and two grandchildren.

The family will be staying at 321 W. Jefferson in Borger.

Clinton Wallace Stribling

MOBEETIE - Clinton Wallace Stribling, 88, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lewis Holland of Miami, the Rev. Thacker Haynes of McLean and the Rev. Tom Stribling officiating. Burial will be in Mobeetie Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler.

Clinton Wallace Stribling was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Gray County to David Wesley and Kathleen Stribling. Clinton married Maurita Dawn Laman on July 18, 1948, in Mobeetie. Clinton attended Miami High School. His home was in Mobeetie, where he was a farmer and rancher. Clinton served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, as an aviation machinist mate (H) second class.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Wesley Stribling in 1958 and Kathleen Stribling in 1992; and a son, Wayne Stribling, in 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Maurita Stribling; two sons, Tom "Buddy" Stribling and wife Debbie of Happy and Roy Lynn Stribling and wife Cindy of Elk City, Okla.; a daughter-in-law, Carol Stribling Chatham of Pampa; a sister, Davaleen Schroder of Spearman; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105.

Betty Jean Grider Hammock

HOWARDWICK - Betty Jean Grider Hammock, 73, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, in Amarillo.

Services was at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church in Howardwick with the Rev. Dave Stout, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Silverton Cemetery in Silverton by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Mrs. Hammock was born Feb. 14, 1936, in Altus, Okla., to Roy and Maudie Bell Beavers Grider. She married Robert Royce Hammock on Dec. 22, 1952, in Decatur. She graduated from Rosedale High School in Bellview, N.M., and Amarillo School of Nursing. She was an LVN at Hereford Regional Medical Center for 31 years before her retirement. She was a resident of Altus before moving in 1949 to Hereford, where she lived until moving to Howardwick in 1999. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Howardwick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Wayne Hammock, in 1976; and a brother, Roy Grider.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Hammock; a daughter, Stacie Ruga and husband Glenn of Spearman; two sons, Bobby Hammock and wife Kathy of Clovis, N.M., and Tim Hammock and Charlotte Deere of Brenham; a brother, Sam Grider of Howardwick; three sisters, Ann Kirkland of Plattsburg, Mo., Karene Tatum of Tucumcari, N.M., and Reba Hayes of Amarillo; five granddaughters; four grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church in Howardwick or a favorite charity.

Larry Charles Brillhart

SPEARMAN - Larry Charles Brillhart, 59, died Friday, April 17, 2009.

No services are scheduled. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton.

Mr. Brillhart was born Oct. 16, 1949, in Guymon, Okla., to Charles and Evelyn Brillhart. He was a farmer.

Survivors include two sisters, Susan Cummings of Crawford and Amy Booth of Oologah, Okla.; and a brother, Kirby Brillhart of Spearman.

James Leroy Hansford

DUMAS - James Leroy Hansford, 86, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, in Spearman.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, April 20th in Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Korsmo, pastor of the church, the Rev. H.L. Stevens, retired Assembly of God minister, and Tom Moore, longtime family friend, officiating. Burial was in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors.

James Leroy Hansford was born June 14, 1922, in Sipe Springs, Comanche County, to William and Nellie Hansford. He retired after 40 years as a field supervisor with Diamond Shamrock. He was an independent oil and gas consultant until 2008. He also worked with Gordon Taylor and Family.

He loved to hunt and fish and was a 54-year Master Mason Grand Lodge. Mr. Hansford had been a resident of Dumas since 1943 and was a member of Bible Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Bobbie Lucille Hansford, on Jan. 28, 1995; a daughter, Rita Kay Bentley Hansford, on March 14, 2005; and his second wife, Phyllis Ann Hansford, on July 19, 2008.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Telischak and husband Steve of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Kay Kennel and husband Dr. Dietmar Kennel of Lubbock, Timothy James Glass and wife Lexy of Gruver, Tammila Sue Lueder and Tonya Lynn Silvey, both of Amarillo, Shane Micah Telischak of Marshall and Theresa Dawn Hernandez of South Milwaukee, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Kalissa and Kinsey Byrd, both of Lubbock, Bailey and Payten Glass, both of Gruver, and Charles, Joseph, Sean-Michael, Fernando, Ethan, Cassandra and Kacie; four great-great-grandchildren, Harold, Scarlett, Lillian and Zack; and a brother, Billy Joe Hansford of Boerne.

The family suggests memorials be to Building Fund, Bible Baptist Church, 222 W. First St., Dumas, TX 79029; or Alzheimer's Association, 415 W. Eighth Ave., Suite 300, Amarillo, TX 79101.

Ralph Bynum

DUMAS - Ralph Bynum, 68, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, in Amarillo.

Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Foster, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, the Rev. Darrell Wait, pastor of First Christian Church, the Rev. Lawrence D. Yerger, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Frank Cordoa, pastor of Cornerstone Church officiating. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. in Hansford County Cemetery in Spearman by Morrison Funeral Directors.

Ralph Bynum was born Nov. 19, 1940, in Pampa, where he grew up, and graduated from Pampa High School in 1959. He served in the Army for three years and the Texas National Guard for seven years. In 1974, he married Mona Doucette, and they had two daughters. After the death of Mona, he met Clo Ann Kerr at the 20-year class reunion in Pampa. They later married, and he moved to Dumas. He worked for the Conoco Phillips plant at Borger for 20 years before his retirement. Ralph was known for his "Ralph Dawgs" at Phillips, where he cooked for everyone. Some even said he was a "hot dawg technician."

Ralph was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder. He was affiliated with KDDD 95.3 radio station and was a funeral assistant for Morrison Funeral Directors. He was active in the community he loved and volunteered for many things. He was the founder of the Multiple Sclerosis Society Walk in Dumas. He volunteered at Window on the Plains Museum, The Art Center, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Reader's Advisory Council and the Chamber of Commerce. Ralph was a member of Dumas Lions Club, where he had served as president. He also was a member of the Rotary Club. He was voted Volunteer of the Year and Citizen of the Year.

Ralph loved this community and enjoyed and loved everyone he came in contact with. He was a wonderful, precious, tenderhearted man and will be missed by all of us.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Phillip, Elmer, Dick and John Bynum; and two sisters, Rose and Ellen.

Survivors include his wife, Clo Ann; three daughters, Tammy Stegall and husband Darrell of Lubbock, Terry Merendino and husband Todd of Bay City and Ginger Lewis and husband Tim of Guymon, Okla.; two sons, Rick Kerr and wife Josie of Guymon and Mike Kerr and wife Tressa of Lubbock; three brothers, Gene Bynum of Pampa, Joe Bynum of Spearman and Paul Bynum of Silsbee; a sister, Beth Westberry of Adel, Ga.; 13 wonderful, perfect, grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials be to Panhandle Chapter, Multiple Sclerosis Society, 6222 Canyon Drive, Amarillo, TX 79109.

The family will be at 206 Carson St. in Dumas.

Maria S. Garcia

CLAYTON, N.M. - Maria S. Garcia, 76, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, in Farwell, Texas.

Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2009 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton with Deacon P. Louis Montoya officiating. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, april 14th in the church with the Rev. Glenn Jones as celebrant. Burial will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Garcia was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Salado to Gomisindo M. and Candida Sandoval Padilla. She was a lifelong resident of Union County and a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Celina Sintas of Spearman, Texas, Stella Garcia of Farwell and Delina McKnight of Edgewood; five sons, Johnny Garcia of Clayton, Alfonso Garcia and Steven Garcia, both of Amarillo, Texas, Daniel Garcia of Farwell and Larry Garcia of Albuquerque; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Ebell of Roy.

Owen E. Jones

OLTON - Owen E. Jones, 88, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, in Lubbock.

Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in First Baptist Church in Olton with Patrick Hamilton and the Rev. Kyle Streun officiating. Burial will be in Olton Cemetery by Ramage Funeral Directors.

Mr. Jones was born Dec. 27, 1920, in the rock house on the Jones farm north of Olton to Ellis and Ida Jones. He married Sibyl Sorley on July 20, 1941, in Valley View Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, George Jones of Paris, Texas; two daughters, Marilyn Carson of Dalhart and Valda Burkhalter of Spearman; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 408, Olton, TX 79064; or Runningwater Draw Care Center, P.O. Box 409, Olton, TX 79064.

Dan L. Dacus

LEE'S SUMMIT, MO - Dan Dacus, 76, of Lee's Summit, Mo., passed away Friday, March 20, 2009, at Centerpoint Medical Center after a short illness.

Memorial services were 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the Langsford Funeral Home in Lee's Summit with Chaplain Claudia Walker of Lee's Summit Medical Center officiating. Visitation held prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m. Arrangements were by Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW Third Street, Lee's Summit, MO 64063 (816) 524-3700.

Dan was born Dec. 16, 1932, in Spearman, Texas, to Leo Francis and Willie Mary Clemmer Dacus. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Dan graduated from ENMU with a degree in Art. He was a Social Security Disability Specialist retiring in 1987 then working for Occudata, Inc. for several years.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Centerpoint Medical Center, especially Jackie and Gail for their compassionate care of Dan during his final days.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Dacus, his infant son, two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Marilyn Dacus; his children, John Dacus, Mary Dacus Hill, Andy Dacus and Joe Dacus; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Rodney Dacus and Alfred Hendrix; and his sister, Lee Watson.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to PAWS, Inc., Box 16664, Raytown, MO 64133; Wayside Waifs, PO Box 9791, KCMO 64134-0791 or American Cancer Society.

Byron Harvey Simpson

WHEELER - Byron Harvey Simpson, 98, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009 in First Baptist Church in Mobeetie with the Rev. Alan Morgan, pastor of The Country Chapel in Wheeler, officiating. Burial will be in Mobeetie Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Byron Harvey Simpson was born Sept. 9, 1910, in Beaver, Okla., to John Byron and Minnie Bell Stapp Simpson, the second of four sons and seven daughters. Byron married Vinnie Novelene Parker on April 21, 1935, in Spearman. Byron moved in about 1938 to the Mobeetie area, where he owned and operated three service stations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Byron and Minnie Bell Simpson; his wife, Novelene Parker Simpson; a sister, Ester Keim; four brothers, Harold, Virgil, Ezra and Eldon; and a great-grandson, Trevor Burrell.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry and wife Reecie Godwin Simpson of Skellytown, Tiny and wife Kay Quarles Simpson of Amarillo and Jimmie and wife Nancy Turnbow Simpson of Kathleen, Ga.; a daughter, Melba Darnell and husband Joe of Mobeetie; six sisters, Thelma Fronk, Naomi Harper, Gertrude Gettz, Elsie Trosper, Euna Benson and Oneta Hoover; two grandsons; eight granddaughters; 10 great-grandsons; seven great-granddaughters; a great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louis Miesner

SPEARMAN - Louis Miesner, 83, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Union Church with the Rev. Neely Landrum and the Rev. Don Baltazor officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Mr. Miesner was born May 26, 1925, in Pueblo, Colo., to Louis and Katy Miesner. He had lived in Spearman since 1961, moving from Sayre, Okla. He married Mary Madden on Feb. 2, 1962, in Stratford.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict. He was a service manager for Hansford Implement for 30 years.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Khiva Temple of the Shrine. He was a Gideon and a former board member of Union Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Terry Ann Porter; two granddaughters, Christy Porter and Becky Porter; and three sisters, Anna Mae Hawkins, Gertie Downing and Katherine Nix.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Miesner; two daughters, Roxie Bartholomew and husband Brice of Graham and Teresa Gomoke and husband Corbet of Frisco; four sons, Kenneth Miesner and wife Susan of Suisun, Calif., Jed Miesner and wife Lisa of Amarillo, Gary Miesner of Alamogordo, N.M., and Greg Miesner and wife Billie Jo of Spearman; a sister, Vera Brimer of Sayre, Okla.; a former son-in-law, Bill Porter and wife Vicky of Spearman; seven granddaughters, Mandy Vargus and husband Gus and Katie and Haylee Miesner, all of Spearman, Lacey Salgado and husband Stephen and Kaylee Miesner, all of Amarillo, Lisa Flaxmayer and husband Robert of Vacaville, Calif., and Monique Rickard of Washington state; three grandsons, Marty Miesner of Amarillo and Aaron and Ethan Gomoke, both of Frisco; and Louie Miesner and wife Tuyet of Citrus Heights, Calif.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ollie Pauline Wallin Buchanan

Ollie Pauline Wallin Buchanan deceased on April 5, 2009. Ollie was 89 years of age and was born in Gruver, TX on April 22, 1919 to Arthur Paul Wallin and Minnie Shapley Wallin. She met her husband, Paul T. while attending Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell, OK. They were married for 62 years and had 3 children, Mary Louise, Paul T. Jr., and James Alan. Ollie was predeceased by both parents, her husband, three brothers and one granddaughter.

Ollie and Paul lived many years in the White Deer and Pampa, TX area. They were members of Briarwood Assembly Church in Pampa, TX. Ollie's greatest joy was her family. She was always active with her children, grandchildren, her many friends her relatives, her community, her church, sewing, playing games with friends and dancing. Ollie was well known for her wonderful cooking and her southern hospitality. The door to her home was always open with a warm welcome to all.

Ollie is rejoicing at seeing her Lord she loved so deeply and served so faithfully. Her dedication and caring for her family was an example to all. Ollie was a wonderful supportive mother, but did expect the best from her children. Ollie prepared her children to love and to serve the Lord, embrace life, live it well and responsibly. Ollie's children's lives were immeasurably blessed by her commitment and love for them.

Ollie is survived by her daughter, Mary Mauldin and Ned, their children, Daran and Andrea Adams, and Dawna Fisher of Round Rock, TX; her first son, Paul T. Jr. and Cindy, and their children Matthew and Sandi Buchanan. Blake and Kippi Buchanan, Zac and Paige Buchanan of Lubbock, TX and Xana and Kyle Bradley of Carbondale, CO; and her second son, James Alan and Susan, and their children, Clay and Mandy Buchanan of Red River, NM and Kimberly Buchanan of Lubbock, TX. Ollie has eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Harley Stanfield and husband Jay of Guymon, OK and Betty Shirm of Oklahoma City, OK, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family sends heartfelt 'Thank You' to the many aides and nurses at Heritage Oaks Nursing Home in Lubbock, TX for the wonderful and tender care given to Ollie for the past seven years. It is very much appreciated by the entire family.

A celebration of Life service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Spearman, Texas at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009. Burial will follow at Old Hansford Cemetery. Mr. Burl Buchanan will officiate. Services are under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors. The family recommends that in place of flowers, all memorials be send to your favorite charity.
