Mrs. Sanford

Elizabeth Sanford, 89, a homemaker, died July 29, 2004 in Arlington. Funeral services were held Aug. 3 at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel in Dallas.
She was a lifelong member of Oak Cliff Presbyterian Church. She was active in the choir program as a choir member and secretary. She was also active in the children’s Sunday school class.
Survivors include sons, L.L. Sanford Jr. and wife Georgene of Arlington; Ralph Sanford and wife Barbara of Dallas and Tommy Sanford and wife Linda of Mansfield; five grandchildren, including Steve and Debbie Sanford of Hamilton; seven great-grandchildren including Shelby, Jacob and Danielle Sanford of Hamilton and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Hernandez

Pedro (Pete) Hernandez, 37, died at his home in Waco August 2, 2004. Funeral services will be Thursday Aug. 5, 2004 in the Evant Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Murphree Cemetery in Evant.
Mr. Hernandez was born Mach 27, 1967 in Cd. Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico to Pete Hernandez and Guadalupe Duran Hernandez.
He grew up in Evant and went on to become a framer and builder. He was a loving son, father, brother and uncle. He enjoyed playing baseball. He was a Catholic by faith.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his two children, Patrick Hernandez and Velicia Hernandez both of Gatesville; his mother, Guadalupe Hernandez of Waco; six sisters, Mary Lou Hernandez of Evant, Josephine Aquilar of Waco, Lupe Hernandez of Evant, Dellanita Hernandez of Evant, Elizandra Hernandez of Evant, Margarita Hernandez of Waco and by two brothers; Max Hernandez and Jovier Hernandez both of Gatesville.

Mrs. Ercanbrack

Martha Jo Ercanbrack, 72, of Clifton died Nov. 15, 2004 at the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. Graveside funeral services were held Nov. 18 at Kempner City Cemetery in Kempner.
She was born Nov. 24, 1931 in Burnet County, the daughter of Wiley Grizzle and Stella Ann Ellason Grizzle. She lived in Clifton for the past several months and in Hamilton for a few years. The majority of her life she lived in Lampasas, graduating from Lampasas High School in 1949. She was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith.
Survivors include her son, Danny Hart and wife Linda of Burleson; two sisters, Wilma Jean Thompson of Auburn, Maine and Mary Lou Shivley of Akron, Ind; two grandchildren, Nina Walker and Stephen Hart, both of Arlington and two great-grandchildren, Lark and Austin Walker, both of Arlington as well as numerous cousins, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Foster Ercanbrack on Dec. 24, 1987 and a brother, Wiley Grizzle Jr.

Mr. Boynton

Harry Gene Boynton, 76, retired Exxon research engineer who was raised in Hamilton, died Saturday at his home in Sun City, Georgetown, surrounded by his family. His death ended a 41-year battle against heart disease.
The body is being given for medical research. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at San Gabriel Presbyterian Church in Georgetown with the Rev. Charles Teykl of Rosenberg officiating.
Boynton was born in Hamilton, the son of George Harry and Lucile (Roddy) Boynton. His father was the U. S. postmaster in Hamilton for many years. His great-grandfather, Charles Milton Boynton, and grandfather, George Henry Boynton, were publishers of the Hamilton-Herald in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Boynton was graduated from Hamilton High School and from Texas A&M with a major in chemical engineering. While at A&M, he played cornet in the A&M band. After college graduation, he went to work for Humble Oil and Refining, the predecessor of Exxon, in Baytown. He retired from Exxon in 1982.
The Boyntons moved away from Baytown in 1974 when he was transferred to Baton Rouge. He retired from Exxon in 1982 and they moved to Atlanta. They returned to Texas in 1998.
Survivors include his wife. Johnella Sparks Boynton; three children, Amy Buckspan of St. Petersburg, Fla., Brook Boynton of San Clemente, Calif. and Kim Boynton Berger of Denver, CO.; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Buckspan, a graduating senior at Georgia Tech, Caitlin Buckspan, a student at the University of Florida, Andrew Buckspan of St. Petersburg, Emily and Alex Berger of Denver; two sons-in-law, Randy Buckspan and Lou Berger.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Scott and White Hospice, 2401 S. 31st Street, Temple, TX 76502.

Mr. Srygley

Rudy Gilbert “Gil” Srygley 72 of Evant died Nov. 16, 2004 at Hamilton. Funeral services were held Nov. 19 in the First Baptist Church at Evant with Rev. David Bonnet, Rev. John Weaver and Rev. Wade Lackey officiating. Burial followed in the Springtown Cemetery at Springtown.
Mr. Srygley was born July 6, 1932 at Springtown, the son of Verlin Odell Srygley and Willie Mae Urban Srygley.
In 1953 he entered the Army to serve his country taking his basic training at Fort Hood while being housed in tents. After basic training he served in Germany being released from active duty on Jan. 1, 1955 and received his discharge from the reserves on Dec. 31, 1960.
On June 8, 1956 at Fort Worth, Texas he was married to Scottie Joe Pearson. Mr. Srygley worked in steel construction in Dallas while they lived in Fort Worth until 1984 when they moved to Breckenridge to work on a ranch taking care of Brangus cattle.
In February of 1994 the couple moved to Evant where Mr. Srygley went to work for Paul Ray Wilkinson as ranch manager on the Bailey Creek Ranch until earlier this year when his health forced him to retire.
He was an honest man, a unique individual, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren with two of them serving in the armed forces.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Srygley of Evant; three children and their spouses, Dana and Yair Kempler of West Hills, Calif., Ronald and Kathy Srygley of Carthage, Mo. and Lee Ann and Stan Street of Oklahoma City, Okla; three grandsons; three step-granddaughters; one great-grandson and one sister Barbara Joan Rice of Fort Worth.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Pallbearers were Burl Robinson, Wilburn Coleman, Charles Williams, J.E. Jenning, Wendell Finley, T.R. Thomas, James Hutcheson, Jimmy Hutcheson and Loyd Lynch.

Marcus Earl Paul

Marcus Earl Paul was born and passed away Nov. 17, 2004 at Kings Daughters Hospital in Temple. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Evergreen Cemetery in the Evergreen Community of Hamilton County. His life was short and we will miss him.
Survivors include his parents, Shawn Michael Paul and Anita Dawn Wilson Paul of the King community; paternal grandparents, Dubby and Martha Paul of the Evergreen community; maternal grandparents, Bob and Leisa Wilson of Copperas Cove; maternal great- grandmother, Margaret Wilson of Savannah, Okla., maternal great-grandfather, Haskell Smith of Carlsbad, NM, maternal great-great-grandparents, Marcus and Edith Smith of Carlsbad, New Mexico and maternal great-grandmother, Patsy Workman of Kiow, Okla.

Mrs. Patton

Mary Elizabeth Patton, 94, a homemaker, died Nov. 16, 2004 in Hamilton. Funeral services were held Nov. 18 in the stateroom of Laurel Land Funeral Home.
Mrs. Patton lived in Fort Worth for 35 years before moving to Hamilton three years ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.E. Patton, in 2001.
Survivors include her sister, Ann Stecker of Hamilton; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Francis of Fort Worth; a brother, Bill Francis of Weatherford; a nieces, Chris Paschal and Prissy Woodrich and a nephew, Pat Ferguson.

Mr. Jones

Eldon Harrison (PeeWee) Jones, 89, died in Dallas Saturday January 14. Funeral services were held Jan. 18, 2006 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Cude and Dr. James Ballard officiating.
Mr. Jones was born August 1, 1916 in Gustine, Comanche County, the son of Oscar Fount (Bill) Jones and Clara Albin Jones.
When he was young the family moved to Hamilton County where he resided his entire life. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1933 and was the president of the senior class. He later attended the University of Texas at Austin.
In 1936 Mr. Jones was married to Earline Smith. She preceded him in death in March of 1981.
At a later date he married Obera Richey Cude, a high school classmate. In 1938 he became a partner in The Smith & Jones Cotton Gin and Farm Implement business, retiring in 1982.
During World War II he served in the Air Force from 1942 to 1946 as a radar operator and navigator in the Fifth Air Force in the Pacific. Mr. Jones served his community in many ways: on the Hamilton City Council, Hamilton Independent School Board and the Hamilton Hospital Board. He was a member of Park Heights Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife Obera Jones of Hamilton; one daughter, Patricia Jones of Richardson; granddaughters Debbie Lack and her husband Jeff, and Cristi Foreman and her husband Brad; great-grandchildren Jacob and Jeremy Lack and Charlie and Piper Foreman as well as extended family members Kirby Cude and family, Kevin and Wendy Cude and family and LaMerle Deca and family.
Pallbearers were Miller Gunn, Alfred Hohertz, Travis Moore, Gary Schoen, Bert Shrank, Don Grant, Mike Parker, James Weathers, Ollie Zschiesche, Jerry Zschiesche, Jack Davidson and Pete Jordan.

Mr. Pella

Howard Cornelius Pella, 84, died peacefully at his home in Katy on Nov. 24, 2005, after a battle with cancer. Memorial services were held in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday Jan. 21with burial in Pottsville Cemetery.
He was born February 21, 1921 at Clarinda, Iowa , the son of Laurence Wesley Pella and Cornelia Ceola Hicks Pella.
After his birth his mother died and he was raised by his grandparents John Wesley Pella and his wife Christian Lavina Pella in New Market, Iowa. He attended the New Market School and graduated in 1937.
He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. Howard was an active member of the First Christian Church (DOC) in Clarinda, Iowa, and a member of the USGA.
Mr. Pella worked for Exxon Oil Company for 30 years and for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company (in Anchorage, Alaska) until he retired in 1982 as Manager of Administrative Services. He enjoyed his retirement playing golf, traveling and enjoying his family.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Kinsey Pella and daughters Janeen Tucker and husband Darby and Laura Vandiver; his former wife, Jeanette Langfeld Pella and their three daughters; Sandra Graham and husband Miles, Judith Wranosky, and Janis Wilkey and husband David; ten grandchildren, Tony, Michael, Stephanie, Jennifer, Matthew, Jared, Seth, Amanda, Valerie and Drew and seven great grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to VistaCare Hospice Foundation in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Barnett

Merida Maxwell (Max) Barnett, 55, died Jan. 17, 2006 at his home in Hamilton. Funeral services were held Jan. 21 at Riley Funeral Chapel with Rev. Keith Felton officiating.
Mr. Barnett was born May 6, 1950 in Hico, the son of William Merida Barnett and Margie Trimble Barnett. He was a veteran of the Air Force serving eight years with a tour in Southeast Asia.
He was employed by FMC in Stephenville in their maintenance department for 15 years. He loved to fix things and people would call on him when they needed help and he could tell them what part they needed and how to make the repairs.
He enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, fishing in the river and ponds and he enjoyed following the Dallas Cowboys games. He was also a fan of motor sports, attending the races at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his two children, Adele May King of Stephenville and Martha Eva Barnett of Fort Worth; two grandchildren; his mother, Margie Gable; a sister, Cynthia Bailey of Carrollton and a niece Stephanie and great-nephew Bryce of Pilot Point.
Pallbearers were Mike Payne, Joe Wallace, Wayne Johnson, John Hare, Ron Carpenter and Gordon Odom.

Mr. Smith

Jerald Smith, 87, of Snyder died Jan. 23 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held Jan. 26 at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
He was born June 15, 1918 in Izoro and was married to Ione Conner on Sept. 25, 1950 in Gatesville. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1994. Mr. Smith was a building contractor.
He was the salutatorian of his class in 1938 in Pyron and part of the military’s 753rd tank battalion. He fought in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Germany and Austria earning a purple heart and seven bronze stars.
He built approximately 350 homes, mostly in Snyder but also in Big Spring, Post, C-City, Ackerly and Lake J.B. Thomas. He also coached Farm League baseball
Survivors include three sons, Jerald Van Smith of Saginaw, N.C. Smith and wife Nita of Snyder and Kyle Smith of Abilene; two grandsons, Conner and Jared Smith of Snyder.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Mary Nell Smith and Zada Ruth Darden and a brother, Joyce Smith.
