Frances K. Truax

Frances Kleber Truax was born Nov. 13, 1899 in Dallas Texas, and died June 11, 2001, after a long illness. Frances was born in Dallas to F.M and Abbie Kleber. She was raised in Dallas on McKinney Avenue. Her father and grandfather founded Kleber Baking Company at Akard and Pacific. It was the first wholesale baking company in Dallas. Frances graduated from Dallas High School and attended SMU where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and was a Rotunda Beauty. She was a lifetime member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, which her family helped establish. In 1921 she married W.W. (Bill) Truax, who was the city editor of the old Dallas Journal - the evening paper of the Dallas News. When the Journal was sold he joined the staff of the Dallas Morning News. He was on the news staff until he retired as assistant managing editor. Bill died in 1981. Shortly after that, Frances moved to Denton to Good Samaritan Village. Frances' passion was gardening. At one point she wrote a gardening column for the Dallas News. She was a founding member of the Bluff View Garden Club. She was also a member of the Altar Guild at the Church of the Incarnation and a volunteer in their Thrift House on Routh Street.

Frances is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Jerry Flanery; granddaughter and husband, Kathy and David Turner; grandsons. Pat Flanery, Mike Flanery and his wife Paula Frazier; great-grandchildren, Bill Turner, wife Libreta, Michael Turner, Colin, Ryan, Megan and Frazier Flanery; great-great-grandchild, Clara Elizabeth Turner; niece, Linda Tubbs; nephews, Michael Kleber, A.R. and Robert White and their families.

Frances is preceded in death by her husband Bill; her mother and father, F.M. and Abbie Kleber; three brothers, Fred, Jack and George Kleber; one sister, Amelia White; and a grandson, Tom Flanery.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Restland Memorial Park with the Rev. Clint Loveall, associate pastor of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton, officiating.

Jimmie Garrett

Oklahoma City - The Rev. Jimmie Lee Garrett, 84, of Oklahoma City, Okla., formerly of Denton, died Tuesday, June, 12, 2001.

He was born March 22, 1917, in Malakoff to Jimmie Lee and Jane Boyd Garrett Sr.

Mr. Garrett was a minister in Oklahoma, Texas and Ohio. He was the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Denton from 1961 to 1970. He was a member of Southwest Baptist Church.

The service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Southwest Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, May Garrett; two sons, Bobby Garrett of Oklahoma City and Hubert Garrett of Texas; three daughters, Nancy Curington and Jeanie Taylor of Texas and Phyllis Lambert of Denton; and 107 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Resthaven Funeral Home of Oklahoma City is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Kennemer

Lillian Ruth Pecora Kennemer, 67, of Little Elm died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 19, 1934, in Frisco, to Kelly and Marguerite (White) Bridges. In 1962 she married Lloyd Kennemer in Ardmore, Okla. He died Oct. 10, 1998. She attended public schools.

Mrs. Kennemer was employed as a seamstress by Russell-Newman Manufacturing Company.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 15, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home in Denton. Tom Kriss and Ben Doke will officiate. Burial will follow in Little Elm Cemetery.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Thursday, June 14, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Denton Unit, 3301 W. Freeway, Fort Worth, Texas 76107-5709.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Scarborough of Edinburg; two sons, Paul Pecora of Gainesville and Michael Pecora of Denton; one brother, Jim Bridges of Denton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Charles Warfield

Krum - Charles Mack Warfield, 65, of Krum died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at his home.

He was born Oct. 29, 1935, in Dallas.

Mr. Warfield was a retired engineer from Ling Tempco Vaught and was a veteran.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, in Sanger Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Kelley will officiate.

The family will be at Coker Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 14, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Sanger Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1012, Sanger, Texas 76266.

He is survived by six cousins, Larry Kelley, Harriet Willis, Jo P. Kelley, Sharon Harrell, Betsy Hollingsworth and Martha Stork. Jesse A. Yates

Jesse A. Yates, 73, of Denton, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Longmeadow Care Center in Justin.

He was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Bryan County, Okla., to Rea and Gladys Yates. On Nov. 18, 1950, he married Johnnie Ruth Witherspoon.

Mr. Yates retired in 1985 as turf manager of the golf course at the University of North Texas.

He was Baptist.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. The Rev. Buddy Owens will officiated. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Durant, Okla.

Pallbearers will be Capt. Greg Leveling, Lt. Doug Hammons, Cameron Powell, Cliff Couch, Haider Khan and Mark Klingle.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Farris, John Goble, Michael Fraga, Frank McGrath and Sam Bishop, from Precinct 1 Constables Office.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Thursday, June 14, at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Yates of Denton; two sons, Jerry Yates and Justin Yates, both of Denton; two sisters, Betty Henkes of Humble, Texas, and Mary Ellen Randolf of Mount Pleasant, Texas; three brothers, Lennis Yates of Durant, Okla., Anthony Yates of Krum, and Tommy Yates of Durant, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Connie Yates and Willis Alton "Bob" Yates, are deceased.

DeBerry Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Kerry W. Ingram

Kerry Wayne Ingram, 23, of Denton died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born to Kenneth and Cene Chamberlain Ingram on Aug. 9, 1977, in Fort Worth. He was a 1999 graduate of Denton High School.

He was Methodist.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 15, in the chapel of Denton State School and commital services will be held at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Chimes at Laurel Land Cemetery in Fort Worth with the Rev. Bill Crouch officiating at both services.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Thursday, June 14, at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton.

Memorials may be made to the Denton State School Infirmary Fund.

Pallbearers will be Lanham Stark, Michael Paredes, Jeff Pamplin and Paul Jordan.

Survivors include his parents, Ken and Cene Ingram of Denton; one brother and sister-in-law, Corey and Jenny Ingram of Fort Worth; and one niece, Delaney Ingram of Fort Worth.

DeBerry Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Joan B. Bidne

Hickory Creek - Joan Barth Bidne, 51, of Hickory Creek died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at her home.

She was born Feb. 19, 1950, in Corpus Christi, to Albert and Mabel (Elam) Barth. She was a graduate of Baylor University in Waco.

Ms. Bidne was a physical education teacher at Newton Rayzor Elementary School and previously was summer summits coordinator and a SPAN driver and coordinator.

She was a member of the Harvest Metropolitan Community Church where she was a pitcher for the church softball team, ministry leader, and creator of the church prayer trail.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 15, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home in Denton. The Rev. Colleen Darraugh will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Denton Unit, 3301 W. Freeway, Fort Worth, TX 76107-5709.

Survivors include her father, Albert Barth of Denton; one daughter, Jayme Bidne of Houston; one son, Aaron Bidne of Dallas; one granddaughter, Chloe Bidne of Dallas; and domestic partner, Nancy Cunningham of Hickory Creek.

Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jeanette Lindsey

Jeanette Lindsey, 85, of Denton died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

She was born Nov. 11, 1915, in Gainesville to Roy Hobart and Minnie Alva (Harrison) Snider. On Feb. 14, 1932, she married C.H. Lindsey in Lamesa.

Mrs. Lindsey was the owner of Family Cleaning Shop in Denton.

She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sunday, June 17.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Lindsey of Abilene and Brig. Gen. Clarence H. Lindsey Jr. of Pinehurst, N.C.; two sisters, Billie Lou Hale of Denton and Helen Lindemood of Dallas; three brothers, Henry C. Snider of Fort Worth, James Snider of Dallas, and Pete Snider of Mesquite; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Robert Hamby

Texarkana - Robert Edwin Hamby, 70, of Texarkana died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at his home.

He was born Dec. 24, 1930, in Roundtimber Community.

Mr. Hamby was a retired employee of Chapman Construction Company. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of the American Legion.

He was Baptist.

There will be a memorial graveside service at a later date in the Masonic Cemetery in Seymour. Texarkana Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Wadley Regional Hospice, 4508 Texas Boulevard, Texarkana, TX 75503, or the Cole Hamby Scholarship Fund, 126 Royale Drive, Texarkana, TX 75503.

Survivors include his wife, LuAn Taylor Hamby of Texarkana; two daughters, Belinda Thompson of Texarkana and Genese Smith of Franklin; three sons, Taylor Cade of Valley View, Ken Hamby of Chandler, and Dudley Hamby of Texarkana; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Dudley Hamby and Jim Hamby, one sister, Chlora Quinton, and one grandson are deceased.

Elizabeth Perry

Prosper - Elizabeth Ann Perry, 94, of Prosper died Friday, June 15, at North Central Medical Center in McKinney.

She was born Dec. 13, 1906, in Collin County to Thomas and Annie Nichol Dobie. On Dec, 22, 1931, she married H.W. (Jack) Perry in Prosper. He died Aug. 16, 1994.

Mrs. Perry was a housewife.

She was Presbyterian.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 18, in the Cantrell Funeral Chapel in Celina. Burial will be in Old Celina Cemetery.

The family will be at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Sunday, June 17, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to Celina Presbyterian Church, 405 West Walnut Street, Celina 75009.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Perry of Denton; one daughter, Perry Heist of Prosper; one sister, Tommie Bothwell of Celina; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

William K. Powell

William Kelley Powell was born Feb. 1, 1907, to Amie (Kelley) and Elbert Powell in Garland City, Ark. He passed away on June 7, 2001. God called him home to join his beloved wife Maxine. Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 18, 2001, at 11:30 a.m. at Cole Chapel at First United Methodist Church of Denton, Texas, with the Rev. Larry Bassett officiating. After the services a light buffet will be served.

A long time resident of Dallas in the early years, he received his B.S. in marketing and geology from Southern Methodist University in 1930. In 1932 he married and resided in University Park. Subsequently, he took a position in management within the oil industry. He wrote the first uniform cost accounting manuals compatible with computer usage for oil well drilling and servicing industries, as well as articles for several trade journals. He was a founding member of University Park Methodist Church.

Bill moved his family to a ranch near Lockhart, Texas, in 1949, where he worked actively with the First Methodist Church. He was among the first in Texas to raise Aberdeen Angus cattle; he ran his own drilling company and did teaching and counseling work nationwide. At the University of Texas he scripted training films, wrote training manuals and developed safety programs for the oil industry.

In Norman, at the University of Oklahoma, Bill became the director of the executive development program and a resource advisor to the Petroleum School. After earning an MBA degree with honors, he received an assistant professorship in the Graduate School of Health at the University Medical School in Oklahoma City, by a special action of the Board of Regents. He secured a multi-million dollar federal grant to train health planners for the 12 mid-continent states under the Comprehensive Health Planning Act.

Bill and his family moved to Fort Smith, Ark., where Bill became the director of comprehensive health planning for western Arkansas. After progressing to interim director of the western Arkansas planning and development district, he and his wife retired to Denton, but he was called back to Fort Smith for a one-year contract as business manager for the western Arkansas counseling and guidance program.

Throughout his life, Bill was active in his church and in community service in each place he resided. He helped initiate the MANNA program at the First United Methodist Church, which became the Interfaith Ministries of Denton. He volunteered for the Texas Mental Health School, Texas Genetics Screening and Counseling Services, Denton Community Hospital, and participated in Lions Clubs and Men's Garden Club. After his wife's stroke, they moved to Dallas to live with a daughter, where he actively participated at Club Young at Heart, Central YMCA.

Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Powell Goldman and Kathleen "Kitty" Powell Auer, both of Dallas, Texas, and Valli Powell Marti of Norman, Okla.; six grandchildren, Raymond Goldman of Flintridge, Okla., Catherine G. Kleinmann of Dallas, Texas, Douglas Goldman of Corinth, Texas, Amy G. Northrop of Chicago, Ill., William Lockett of Enid, Okla., and John P. Auer of Irving, Texas; and eight great- grandchildren, Tom and Kevin Kleinmann, Daniel Goldman, Kaylee and Brodie Lockett, Christian and Aidan Goldman, and Anne Marie Northrop..

Memorial contributions may be made through Denton churches to the Interfaith Ministries of Denton, 201 S. Locust, Denton, TX 76201.
