Nov. 7, 1921 — June 9, 2000

NORMANGEE — Services for Wharton Raymond Gilbert, 78, of Houston are set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cozart Funeral Chapel in Normangee.

Burial will be in George Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Gilbert died Friday in Houston.

He was born in Normangee and was a Baptist. He served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Katherine Mize Gilbert and Virginia Holleman Gilbert.

Survivors include two sons, Standley Gilbert and James Gilbert, both of Houston; a daughter, Nancy Gilbert of Houston; and two sisters, Eunice Hodges of Normangee and Martha Belle Harrell of Hilltop Lakes.

Wilbert Hilley Sr.
Jan. 28, 1925 — June 11, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Wilbert Hilley Sr., 75, of Navasota are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Navasota.

The Rev. Donald Kasper of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hilley died Sunday in Grimes St. Joseph Health Center.

He was born in Anderson and was a lifelong resident of Navasota. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a life member of VFW Post No. 4006 in Navasota. He was retired from Mid South Electrical Co-op and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Wood Hilley.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wilbert W. and Lucille Hilley of Navasota and Charles L. and Marilyn Hilley of Anderson; a daughter, Carolyn San Angelo of Bryan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Dorothy Hilley of Navasota and Ira and Mary Hilley of Marlin; two sisters, Esther Hilley of Navasota and Addine Brocksmith of Kingwood, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Minnie Katherine ‘Tissie’ Hughes
March 19, 1906 — June 10, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Graveside services for Minnie Katherine “Tissie” Hughes, 94, of Madisonville are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center, Texas.
The Rev. Dick White will officiate.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Monday at the Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Hughes died Saturday in Madison St. Joseph Health Center.

She was born in Ragley, Texas, and had lived in Madisonville since 1990. She formerly lived in Pasadena and was a member of the First Methodist Church in Madisonville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Hughes.

Survivors include a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Bill and Pat Allen of Marquez, Texas, and Lois Cain of Racine, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Billie Springer Hurt
March 23, 1910 — June 9, 2000

Services for Billie Springer Hurt, 90, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan.

The Revs. Harral Dunnam of the First United Methodist Church in Bryan and Tom Kitchens of Brazos Miracle Outreach will officiate. Burial will be in Restever Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hurt died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Rosebud, Texas, and had lived in Bryan for 15 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Murl Hurt.

Survivors include two daughters, Marie Smith of Bryan and Charlotte Price of College Station; a sister, Maude Ingram of Cameron; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Hershel Elton Lee
June 2, 1928 — June 10, 2000

Services for Hershel Elton Lee, 72, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. Michael Curry of Christ’s Way Baptist Church in Bryan will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lee died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Sara Gorta, Tenn., and had lived in Bryan for 17 years. He was retired after 30 years as an auto body repairman. He was a member of Christ’s Way Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Chris Lee of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Brenda L. Lee of Highlands, Texas; four daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Lee, Glenda and John Speelman, Renee Lee Fattig and Stephanie Lee, all of Bryan; five sisters and a brother-in-law, Margaret Ann Purzner, Hazel Young and Jimmie Lou Brogdon, all of St. Louis, Mo., Linda Giles of Tennessee and Mary Ellen and Bill Estep of Texarkana, Texas; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Christ’s Way Baptist Church, P.O. Box 4445, Bryan, Texas 77805.

Wallace C. Newell
March 6, 1927 — June 10, 2000

Services for Wallace C. Newell, 73, of Bryan and formerly of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Philip Watson of the Gatesville Church of Christ in Gatesville, Texas, will officiate. Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Newell died Saturday in Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas.

He was born in Harlingen, Texas, and was a retired dairy farmer. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard W. and Lavell Newell of Fleetville, Pa.; five daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Patrick Rust of Vero Beach, Fla., Rebecca and Charles Dean of College Station, Patricia and Don Cook of Round Rock, Texas, Donna and Philip Watson of Gatesville, Texas, and Laurie and Roy Wade Rhodes of La Grange, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Dale and Bessie Newell of Lumberton, Texas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Oneta and O.C. Jones of Santa Fe, Texas, and Linda and Julius Schoppe of Texas City, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Oscar Bishop
March 19, 1942 — June 8, 2000

Services for Oscar Bishop, 58, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Peaceful Rest Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Charles Jefferson of Peaceful Rest Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Wheelock Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Bishop died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was a lifelong resident of Bryan and was employed as a laborer. He was a member of Peaceful Rest Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Eddie Bishop of Houston; two sisters, Irene Bishop Jones of Bryan and Estella Bishop Williams of San Diego; and his mother, Mary Bishop of Bryan.

Amy Corinn Chesnutt
Aug. 22, 1978 — June 8, 2000

HOUSTON — Services for Amy Corinn Chesnutt, 21, of Dallas were held Monday at Woodforest Baptist Church in Houston.

The Rev. Steve Chisholm officiated. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery in Waller, Texas.

Arrangements were under the direction of Howard-Glendale Funeral Home in Houston.

Miss Chesnutt died Thursday in an auto accident near Staunton, Ill.

She was born in Houston and was a member of Uvalde Baptist Church. She was a senior nursing student at the Baylor School of Nursing in Dallas and was set to graduate in December 2000. She was a member of Kappa Chlalph, a Christian sorority, and Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society for nurses.

Survivors include her parents, Charles and Velma Chesnutt; Victor Ignatiev; grandmother, Louise Chesnutt of Hearne; and numerous aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Baylor School of Nursing in Dallas.

John Michael Dobyanski
April 3, 1982 — June 11, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for John Michael Dobyanski, 18, of Anderson are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson.

The Rev. Louis Sikorski of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mr. Dobyanski died Sunday in an auto accident near Richards, Texas.

He was born in Houston and was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. He was a class of 2000 graduate of the First Christian Learning Center in Navasota.

Survivors include his parents, Debbie and Gaylon Milatovich of Bryan and John Raymond Dobyanski of Anderson; grandparents, JoAnn Schillaci and Billie Himes, both of Houston, and Mary Dobyanski of Anderson; a sister, Renee Dobyanski of Bryan; and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives.

Jeremy Ray Poret
Dec. 11, 1979 — June 11, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Jeremy Ray Poret, 20, of Navasota are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson.

The Rev. Louis Sikorski of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mr. Poret died Sunday in an auto accident near Richards, Texas.

He was born in Bryan and was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. He was a welder for Tenaska.

Survivors include his parents, Carolyn Poret of Navasota and Garry and Lisa Poret of Conroe, Texas; grandmother, Mary Dobyanski of Anderson; and a brother, Judson Poret of Navasota.

Rodney Paul Laskowski
Sept. 7, 1979 — June 11, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Rodney Paul Laskowski, 20, of Anderson are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson.

The Revs. Louis Sikorski of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Edward Kucera of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Alois Goertz and Bernard Goertz, both retired, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Plantersville.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota and from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Laskowski died Sunday in an auto accident near Richards, Texas.

He was born in Houston and lived in Anderson for 16 years. He was the 1998 valedictorian at Anderson High School and was a student at Texas A&M University. He worked at the Bluebonnet Country golf course and was the state 1A golf champion in high school. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his parents, Lambert and Maggie Laskowski of Anderson; and grandmother, Mary Dobyanski of Anderson.
