Clark Joseph Miller
1939 — Sept. 5, 2000

A memorial service for Clark Joseph Miller, 61, of Bryan is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at 6046 Straub Lane in College Station. Local arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Miller died Tuesday at his home.

He was born in Emporia, Kan. He received his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University at Kingsville in 1962 and his master’s degree in 1970. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Miller of Bryan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian and Stephanie Miller of College Station and Nathan Miller of Bryan; three brothers, Basil Miller Jr., Wayne Miller and Larry Miller, all of Brownsville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Allyn and Marilyn Baker and Nina and Tim Freeman, all of Austin, and Lavonna and Charles Clark of Flatonia, Texas; mother- and father-in-law, the Rev. and Mrs. Maynard R. Rogers of San Angelo, Texas; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Grace and Johnny Bonner of San Angelo; one granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 205 E. 29th St., Bryan.

Robert Edward Taylor
Jan. 11, 1914 — Aug. 10, 2000

SWEET HOME, Ore. — Graveside services for Robert Edward Taylor, 86, of Sweet Home, Ore. are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Norwood Cemetery in Hearne.

Arrangements are under the direction of Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne. The Rev. Eddie Mayo of Elliott Baptist Church will officiate.

There will be a family meeting at noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Taylor died in Sweet Home.

He was born in Hearne and lived in Sweet Home for 19 years. He retired from Humble Oil Refinery of Baytown. He was a retired captain of his own deep sea fishing charter company in Freeport, Texas. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1936.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Taylor of Sweet Home; three stepsons and daughter-in-laws, Richard and Kay Davis of Hanford, Calif., Dennis and Pat Davis of Fife, Wash. and Fred and Glenda Davis of Albany, Ore.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and C.M. Hooper of Hamilton, Texas, Karen and Dan Holcombe of Crosby, Texas, and Robin and Don Stewart of Sugar Land, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Ray Davidson of Denver, Colo.; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Leila Belle Payne
Nov. 8, 1911 — Sept. 7, 2000

EDGE COMMUNITY — Services for Leila Belle Payne, 88, of the Edge community are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. The Rev. Doug Jones of Edge Baptist Church and the Rev. J.W. Kornegay of First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in New Church Cemetery in the Edge community.

Visitation will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel and from 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Mrs. Payne died Thursday at her home in Edge. She was a lifelong resident of the Edge community. She was a homemaker and owner of the Edge General Store. She was a member of Edge Baptist Church and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Payne.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Eddie and Norma Jean Payne of the Edge community; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and J.R. Reed of the Edge
community; two sisters, Hazel Rosier of Bryan and Maude Lewis of Normangee; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Elmer Earl Armstrong
Jan. 14, 1938 — Sept. 6, 2000

HEARNE — Graveside services for Elmer Earl Armstrong, 62, of Hearne are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Cemetery in the Elliott community.

Dana Altimore will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Armstrong died Wednesday at his home.

He was born in the Five Points community near Hearne and had lived in Hearne for 40 years. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Roberta Pauline Miller and Doris Earline Strickland, both of Salina, Kan.; five brothers, Calvin Glen Armstrong of Coahoma, Texas, Claude Hiram Armstrong Jr. of Richardson, Texas, Jessie Howard Armstrong of Hearne, James Monroe Armstrong of Tuscola, Texas, and Marvin Lynn Armstrong of Dallas; a sister, Mildred Dove of Bryan; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Leona Dora Starkb Bernhardt
Nov. 4, 1904 — Sept. 7, 2000

BRENHAM — Services for Leona Dora Stark Bernhardt, 95, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham.

The Revs. J. Elliott Pancoast and Lawrence Bade will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mrs. Bernhardt died Thursday in Trinity Care Center in Brenham.

She was born in Burton and was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She worked at Blinn College.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Bernhardt.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce Spies of Waller, Texas, and Shirley and Ruben Beisert of Houston; a sister, Nellie Stark Harmel of Brenham; three sisters-in-law, Willie Mae Stark of Fort Worth, Sadie Stark and Mildred Bernhardt, both of Brenham; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Mary Coleman
March 9, 1922 — Sept. 7, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Mary Coleman, 78, of Washington are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Washington.

The Rev. Gerald McDaniel, associate pastor of New Elam Baptist Church in Hearne, will officiate. Burial will be in Evans Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.
Mrs. Coleman died Thursday in Sherwood Nursing Home.

She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was a member of Mercy Seat Baptist Church. She was a retired teacher’s aid with the Brenham school district.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Coleman Sr.

Survivors include three sons, George Dimes of Washington, Ed Coleman of Houston and Jess Coleman Jr. of Wharton, Texas; four daughters, Mary McDaniel of Hearne, Carmelita Carol Ann Evans and Perrie Monroe, both of Missouri City, Texas, and Pamela Coleman of Channelview, Texas; a brother, John C. Evans of Houston; two sisters, Gertie Shepard of Washington and Willia Bonner of Texas City, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Richard Bruce Herrera
Dec. 21, 1952 — Sept. 6, 2000

SAN ANTONIO — Services for Richard Bruce Herrera, 47, of San Antonio are set for 9:30 a.m. Monday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in San Antonio.

Burial will be in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Northwest Chapel in San Antonio.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial services are set for 7 p.m. Friday at Primera Iglesia Bautista in Bryan.

Mr. Herrera died Wednesday.

He was born in Bryan and graduated from Bryan High School. He worked as a medical technician in the U.S. Air Force. He received a bachelor of science and a master’s degree in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University and had 20 years of volunteer service with the Children’s Association for Maximum Potential. He also served two years on the board of directors for Fisher House at Lackland Air Force Base.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry A. Herrera; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Sarah Herrera, Phillip E. Herrera and John T. Herrera; a daughter, Lauren E. Herrera; his mother, Guadalupe Herrera; four brothers, Manuel, Anastacio, Moses and Edward; three sisters, Amalia, Elizabeth and Pauline; and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.

Jasmine Rockell DuPaul
Feb. 27, 1995 — Sept. 6, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Jasmine Rockell DuPaul, 5, of Madisonville are set for 4 p.m. Monday at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

The Rev. T.D. Lewis of the Poole Chapel Baptist Church in Madisonville will officiate. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Jasmine died Wednesday in a fire at her home.

She was born in Montgomery County, Texas, and was a kindergarten student at Madisonville Elementary School.

Survivors include her mother, Tammy Wilkerson of Madisonville; grandparents, Beverly and Louis Mitchell and Anna Merchant, all of Madisonville, and Patti Douglas of Conroe, Texas; great-grandparents, Betty and Jack Todd and Barbara and Ted DuPaul, all of Conroe, and Mary Johnson of Madisonville; three aunts; and four uncles.

Justice Nichole Holliday
Nov. 18, 1998 — Sept. 6, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Justice Nichole Holliday, 1, of Madisonville are set for 4 p.m. Monday at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

The Rev. T.D. Lewis of the Poole Chapel Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Justice died Wednesday in a fire at her home.

She was born in Montgomery County.

Survivors include her mother, Tammy Wilkerson of Madisonville; grandparents, Beverly and Louis Mitchell and Anna Merchant, all of Madisonville, and Patti Douglas of Conroe, Texas; great-grandparents, Betty and Jack Todd and Barbara and Ted DuPaul, all of Conroe, and Mary Johnson of Madisonville; three aunts; and four uncles.

Tierra Shinea Lynch
Nov. 5, 1992 — Sept. 6, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Tierra Shinea Lynch, 7, of Madisonville are set for 4 p.m. Monday at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Tierra died Wednesday in a fire at her home.

She was born in Montgomery County and was a second-grade student at Madisonville Elementary School.

Survivors include her mother, Tammy Wilkerson of Madisonville; her father, Lorenzo D. Merchant of Beaumont, Texas; grandparents, Beverly and Louis Mitchell and Anna Merchant, all of Madisonville, and Patti Douglas of Conroe, Texas; great-grandparents, Betty and Jack Todd and Barbara and Ted DuPaul, all of Conroe, and Mary Johnson of Madisonville; three aunts; and four uncles.

Vera Lee ‘Mama’ Hall
Dec. 19, 1906 — Sept. 9, 2000

Services for Vera Lee “Mama” Hall, 93, of Bryan are set for 3 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Burial will be in Steep Hollow Cemetery.

Mrs. Hall died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Poteet, Texas, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bryan, where she was involved in the Young at Heart program. She graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College and was a teacher and superintendent in Venezuela, South America. She also taught the Texas A&M University Discovery Program for International Students and wrote and published poetry.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Judy Hall of Bryan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Janette and Charles Boudreaux of Houston, Lee and Chuck Cargill and Barbara and Bobby Cargill, all of Bryan; a sister, Joyce Furlow of Three Rivers, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bryan Building Fund.
