JOSE ANTONIO DONATO RODRIGUEZ

Jose Antonio Donato Rodriguez, 82, of Kountze died Aug. 30, 2000 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Silsbee with a military graveside service at Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A native of Mexico, he lived in Kountze 24 years and was a retired pulpwood contractor.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita McShan Rodriguez of Kountze; sons, Tony Rodriguez and Paul Rodriguez, both of Silsbee, Ramon Rodriguez of Nederland and Arthur Charles Rodriguez of Baltimore; daughters, Mary Martinez and Veronica Hernandez, both of Silsbee, Nelda Ellis of Lumberton, Betty Locke of Kountze and Mary Guerra of Beaumont; sister, Chloe Valdez of Beaumont; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

ODIS RAY SOWELL

Odis Ray Sowell, 84, of Jasper died Aug. 30, 2000 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper with burial at Sowell Cemetery in San Augustine County. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of San Augustine County and a longtime resident of Jasper, he was a retired City of Jasper power plant operator and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Maude Sowell of Jasper; sons, C.B. Sowell of Jasper and Jerry Paul Sowell of Rex, Ga.; daughters, Helen Merritt Swanson of Highlands, Mary Jane Rogers of Mt. Pleasant, Sharol Darlene Simmons of Houston and Ruth Laverne Sowell of Lufkin; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 591 Calvert St., Jasper, Texas 75951.

MONROE STAPLETON

Monroe Stapleton, 71, of Jasper died Aug. 31, 2000 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper with burial at Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of Beaumont and a former resident of River Oaks, he lived in Jasper 31 years, was employed with Moore Business Forms and was a Korean War U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Claudine Stapleton of Jasper; sons, Greg Stapleton of Silsbee, Keith Stapleton of Livingston and Danny Stapleton of Tyler; daughter, Sarai Stapleton of Dallas; brother, Harry J. Stapleton II of Beaumont; and four grandchildren.

EARNEST ‘IRONMAN’ GOLDMAN VINEY

Earnest "Ironman" Goldman Viney, 57, of Lake Charles, La., died Aug. 25, 2000 at his residence.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jones United Methodist Church in Welsh, La., with burial at East Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel in Lake Charles. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.

A lifelong resident of Welsh, he was a Jeff Davis Parish School Board cook.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Zerangue Viney of Welsh; daughter, Robin Leiv of Washington, Texas; sons, Robert Leiv of Washington, Texas, Terry James Achane and Lawrence Vickers, both of Houston, and Ray Anthony Achane, Earnest Achane Jr. and Keith Napoleaon Achane, all of Welsh; stepson, Joseph Brown of Houston; sisters, Doris Simon of Welsh, Bernadine Johnson and Olevia Wheat, both of Baton Rouge, and Faye Harris of Beaumont; brothers, Robert Earl Viney and James Viney, both of Houston, and Roland Viney of Beaumont; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

CECIL WATTS

Cecil Watts, 57, of Beaumont died Aug. 28, 2000 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Proctor’s Mortuary in Beaumont with burial at Union Grove Cemetery in San Augustine. A wake will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary.

A native of Chireno, he lived in Beaumont many years and was a self-employed mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Serena Dennings Watts of Beaumont; daughters, Janet James, Janice Smith and Barbara Reynolds, all of Junction City, Kan., and Gabriel Mitchell of Beaumont; sons, Eric Ligon of Houston and Earnest Watts of Topeka, Kan.; brothers, Micheal Watts and Earnest Watts, both of Houston, Richard Carl Davis and Harvey Davis, both of San Augustine, Edward Davis of Toledo, Ohio, Peter Anderson of Dallas and Jamison Davis of Beaumont; sisters, Felisa Jackson, Cassandra Johnson and Rhonda Watts, all of Houston, Dorothy Stelly of Beaumont, Earnestine Johnson, Linda Mosby, Cora Jean Davis and Annie Pearl Lister, all of San Augustine, and Laverne James of Shreveport, La.; and six grandchildren.

THELMA J. WEERATUNGE

Thelma J. Weeratunge, 55, of Port Arthur died Aug. 29, 2000 at Mid-Jefferson Hospital in Nederland.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at Broussard’s Mortuary in Nederland. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.

A native of Sri Lanka, she lived in the Port Arthur area 18 years and was The Montessori School director in Nederland.

Survivors include her husband, Sam Weeratunge of Port Arthur; stepmother, Alvina Hubley of Hastings, Minn.; sister, Malini Ranasinghe of Houston; and other sisters and brothers in England.

Memorials may be made to Mrs. Weeratunge Medical Fund, P.O. Box 774, Nederland.

RYAN WILSON

Ryan Wilson, 15-month-old son of Jennifer and Keith Wilson of Kirbyville, died Aug. 31, 2000 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

A graveside service was at 4 p.m. Thursday at Trout Creek Cemetery near Kirbyville under the direction of E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville.

Survivors other than parents include brother, Coty Wilson of Kirbyville; sister, Kacy Wilson of Kirbyville; and grandparents, Mary and Bob Wilson and Joe DeGlandon, all of Kirbyville.

ADA J. WOLCOTT

Ada J. Wolcott, 89, of Kountze died Aug. 30, 2000 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Broussard’s Mortuary in Kountze with burial at Holland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. today to time of service at the mortuary.

A native of Spurger, she lived in Kountze most of her life and was a homemaker.

Survivors include daughters, Betty Johnson of Orange, Carolyn Boase of Kountze and Brenda Phillips of Honey Island; sons, John H. Wolcott of New Caney and Gains Wolcott and Tommy Wolcott, both of Kountze; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

DANIEL WADE ALLEN

Daniel Wade Allen, 50, of Kountze died Aug. 28, 2000 at his residence.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of Silsbee, he lived in Kountze four years and was a construction welder.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Allen of Kountze; sons, Jason Daniel Allen and Justin Wade Allen, both of Silsbee; brothers, Harry Allen and Richard Allen, both of Silsbee; mother, Mary Ellen Allen of Silsbee; stepson, Joseph Hernandez of Georgia; stepdaughters, Christine McKinney of Silsbee and Desiree Bergner of Georgia; and seven grandchildren.

SIDNEY J. BLANK

Sidney J. Blank, 86, of Vidor died Aug. 29, 2000 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Cathedral with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Beaumont. A Christian vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

A native of Gramercy, La., he lived in Vidor 26 years and was a retired Mobil Oil carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Eberhardt Blank of Vidor; sons, Ronald Blank of Atlanta, Texas, and Larry Blank of Ruidoso, N.M.; sister, Effie Babin of Lumberton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

LELIA BORDEN

Lelia Borden, 90, of Beaumont died Aug. 27, 2000 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Community Funeral Chapel on Irma Avenue with burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday to time of service at the funeral chapel.

A native of Opelousas, La., she lived in Beaumont a number of years and was a former private home health service provider.

Survivors include sisters, Ida Matthews of Orange, Isabelle Lewis of Beaumont, Alma Wykoff of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Lucille Powell of Los Angeles.

STEVE ALLEN CHARLES

Steve Allen Charles, 62, of Beaumont died Aug. 28, 2000 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Mortuary with burial at Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Saturday to time of service at the mortuary.

A native of Berwick, La., he lived in Beaumont 55 years and was retired from Sampson Iron and Steel. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Gustell Cooper Charles of Beaumont; sisters, Leola Charles of Beaumont and Mary Brown of Whiteville, La.; and brothers, Elijah Charles, Richard Purdy and Armstice Purdy, all of Beaumont, Louis Purdy of Houston and James Charles of Central Islip, N.Y.

PATSY RUTH COVINGTON

Patsy Ruth Covington, 68, of Tenaha died Aug. 29, 2000 at Holiday Nursing Home in Center.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill with burial at Woods Cemetery in San Augustine County. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of Okolona, Ark., and a former resident of Hemphill, she lived in Tenaha two years and was a former waitress.

Survivors include Roy D. Lane of Tenaha; daughter, Patricia Cruchelow of Huffman; and nieces and nephews.

LOYD NELSON DUNCAN

Loyd Nelson Duncan, 85, of San Antonio died Aug. 28, 2000 at his residence.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with a graveside service at 10 a.m. at New Liberty Hill Cemetery in San Augustine. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of Cleburne and a former longtime resident of the Groves area, he lived in San Antonio 13 years and was retired from the Neches Butane instrument department.

Survivors include his wife, Euvalda Duncan of San Antonio; daughter, Kay Cole of Groves; stepdaughter, Betsy Jones of San Antonio; stepson, Mitch Walker of Stagecoach, Nev.; three grandsons; one stepgranddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

RAY C. ENGLISH

Ray C. English, 68, of Groves died Aug. 30, 2000 at his residence.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. A scriptural rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of Plaucheville, La., he lived in Groves 49 years and was a retired Star Enterprise operator and a Korean War U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Ana Claire Trahan English of Groves; daughters, Debra Davis of Beauxart Garden and Lisa Fowler of Colmesneil; sons, Michael Ray English of Woodville, David Charles English of Beauxart Garden and Patrick James English of Port Neches; sisters, Maria Hubbard, Louise Scallan and Kathryn McCaleb, all of Plaucheville; brothers, Tommy "T.K.’’ English and Harris English, both of Groves, and Burton English of Plaucheville; and six grandchildren.
