Following the death of his mother in 1958, he began working to financially assist his father and the family.

In 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Ruby Lee Randolph. This union would last 14 years producing their pride and joy, a daughter, Sheri Lynne. Although he would later retire due to health concerns, he continued to work intermittently, often assisting his lifelong friend, Nathaniel Gilbert.

Always one to enjoy life and laughter, he was known to be a community comedian to all who knew him. Even in later years with health challenges, he served as an unofficial taxi, with jokes and smiles on a daily basis.

Later, he met and loved Jo Arnette Baldwin and the two remained a cohesive pair until his passing. In 1998, he reaffirmed his faith, uniting with the Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until his health declined.

Following an extended illness, he required hospitalization and subsequent care at Montebello Wellness Center, Houston, Texas. Despite his illness, he continued to bring laughter, affectionately known as the 'life of the party' even during physical therapy sessions. He departed this life at 12:15am, March 15, 2014, on his birthday receiving his prize gift called Glory.
