Clanton

James William “Bill” Clanton, 82, of Liberty, died on July 15, 2009 at the Memorial Hermann Baptist in Beaumont.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 18 at 10 A.M. at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX. Burial will follow the service at Cooke cemetery in Liberty. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, July 17 from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

James was born Coahoma, TX on September 16, 1926 to parents Joseph Franklin Clanton and Maggie Ann Hull Clanton. He attended Clark Memorial College and East Texas Baptist University receiving his Bachelor’s Degree and his Masters from University of Texas. He taught in the Fort Bend School District for over twenty years. He has also served as the pastor of Batson Prairie Baptist Church for several years. James was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hull and a 32 degree Mason with membership in the Masonic Lodge of Liberty and the Shiners. James enjoyed gardening and fishing.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Clanton; sister, Eva Dee Coleman and grandson, Chris Clanton.

James is survived by his wife, Bethel L. Clanton of Liberty; son, Wesley D. Clanton and his wife Donna of Liberty; brother, Vernon Clanton of Kennedy; grandson, Kevin Clanton and wife, Courtney of Dayton and one great-granddaughter, Kendra Clanton of also of Dayton.

Arrangements were under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, Texas 77575

Pfardrescher

John Howard Pfardrescher, Jr., 75, of Dayton, Texas, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at his home.

Visitation was held Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas. A memorial service is scheduled for today, July 17, 2009, at 10:00am at the First United Methodist Church, Dayton, Texas with Reverend Jon Stouffer officiating.

Mr. Pfardrescher was born July 8, 1934, in Houston, Texas, to parents, John Howard Pfardrescher Sr. and Ella Marbury Pfardrescher. He was a retired millwright. He was married for fifty-two years to Gayle Glenn Pfardrescher.

Mr. Pfardrescher was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters; Frankie Pfardrescher Block and Sally Pfardrescher Waters. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Pfardrescher, son; John Howard Pfardrescher III and wife Judi, daughters; Patti Hill and husband Billy, Debra Schibetta and husband Bill, grandchildren; Jennifer Thomas and James, Joey and Lisa DeHart, Susan DeHart and David McCain, Rachel Pfardrescher, Chris Bell and Ali Allison, Sal Schibetta, Nic Schibetta, Angelo Schibetta, great-grandchildren; Addison McCain, D.J. McCain, Tyler Thomas, Bryce Dehart, Justin Phillips, Randell McCord, special friends; Dayton Athletic Booster Club and Dayton ISD Coaching Staff and many other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your favorite charity or to the Dayton Athletic Booster Club’s Scholarship Fund in his name.

Beard

Funeral Service will be held for John Curtis Beard, 84, of Liberty, Texas, on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Berean Tabernacle Baptist Church, Liberty, Texas at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend Hurley Clayton, pastor officiating, with burial on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Houston National cemetery, Houston.

A native of Kilgore, Texas he attended public school in Liberty and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He was a member of Berean Tabernacle Baptist Church.

He died on Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Veterans Hospital in Houston.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church.

He is survived by five nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Detwiler

Chambers County Deputy Sheriff and outstanding husband and father Shane Thomas Detwiler, 31, of Baytown, TX was born July 31, 1977 in Salem, OH, and was killed in the line of duty Monday, July 13, 2009 while serving the citizens of Chambers County.

He was a State of Texas Game Warden for 6 years before joining the Chambers County Sheriff’s Department. He was a 1995 graduate of Cy-Fair High School and graduated Suma Cum Laude from Sam Houston State University. He was awarded a Bronze Star while serving in the U. S. Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was a member of Eagle Heights Fellowship Church.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Trish Detwiler, sons, Audie Michael Detwiler, Aiden Glynn Detwiler, and daughter, Abigail Paige Detwiler, all of Baytown; mother and stepfather, Cheryl and Mike Railsback of Huffman; father and stepmother, Thomas and Nina Detwiler of Youngstown, OH; sister and brother-in-law, Brandi and Jimmy McKnight of Spring; and grandmothers, Victoria Detwiler of Columbina, OH and Marjorie Daugherty of Salem, OH.

Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Eagle Heights Fellowship Church, 14120 Hwy 146, Dayton, TX 77535. Funeral services will be Friday, July 17, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Maranatha Church, 12319 Hwy 146, Mont Belvieu, TX 77580 with Rev. Scott Neal officiating. Burial with law enforcement and military honors will follow at Memory Gardens cemetery.

Mayeux

Kitty Faye Mayeux, 50, died on Thursday, July 9, 2009, in Moss Hill, Texas.

She was born Wednesday, June 10, 1959, in Cleveland, Texas, to Donald Matthew and Barbara Mayeux.

Kitty Faye was preceded in death by her father, Donald Matthew Mayeux and niece, Danielle Foster.

Kitty Faye is survived by her loving fiancé, Lamar Fontenot of Moss Hill, TX; mother, Barbara Collins Mayeux of Conroe, TX; sons, James McElroy and wife Becky of Liberty, TX, Robert Perry and wife Joy of Lexington, TX; Brothers, Matt Mayeux of Conroe, TX, Dwayne Mayeux and wife Renee of Thrall, TX, Bryan Mayeux and wife Liz of Thrall, TX, Travis Mayeux and wife Tammy of Conroe, TX; sisters, Gayle Grimmer and husband Joe of Conroe, TX, Yvonne Brady and husband Billy of Boerne, TX, Angelia Leatherwood and husband David of Cleveland, TX; Grandchildren, Trent and wife Cassie, Jessica and Tony McElroy, Dessiny, Kylie and Allyson Perry.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 14, 2009 5-9 p.m. Neal Funeral Home. Service Wednesday, July 15, 2009, 11:00 a.m. Neal Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland Texas. Gorden Reese officiating.

Internment will be at Cleveland Memorial cemetery. Following graveside service, lunch will be held in the reception hall at Security First Baptist Church (281)592 7911.

Garcia

Juan Antonio Romero Garcia, 32, died July 4, 2009 in Liberty, Texas.

He was born in Santa Rosa, Juaregui, Mexico on December 10, 1976, to parents, Filemon Romero Zarate and Rosa Garcia Porras.

A visitation was held Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Allison Funeral Service. He was returned to Mexico the following day for burial.

Mr. Garcia was employed as a construction worker in the area and had many friends here who will miss him greatly. Arrangements were under the direction of Allison Funeral Service.

Flowers

Versie E. Flowers, age 86, died Monday, July 13, 2009 in Baytown, Texas.

She was born in Kountze, June 15, 1923 the daughter of the late Elizabeth “Nellie” Brown Fillingim and Quinney Fillingim. Versie retired after numerous years of service from Hardin County as an auditor. She was a graduate of Kountze High School and was a member of Kountze Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter Flowers, sister Naomi Thompson, brothers Herman Fillingim, Mckinly Fillingim, and Samuel B. Fillingim.

She leaves behind her sister-in-law Dolores Fillingim and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held Wednesday July 15 from 3-5pm at Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Anahuac, Texas with a remembrance service to be held at 5pm. A graveside service will be held 10AM Thursday, July 16 at Pine Ridge cemetery in Sour Lake.

Pavlat

Annie Marek Pavlat, 99, died July 5, 2009 in Bertram, Texas.

A funeral mass of Christian burial was held July 8, 2009 at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger, Texas with interment at Holy Cross Catholic cemetery also in Granger. Annie was born October, 23, 1909 in Seymour Texas to Edward H. Marek and Veronica Tomastik Marek. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank Pavlat Sr., her five sisters and one brother. She is survived by her four children: Edith Offield and husband Dale of Austin, Texas, Frank Pavlat Jr. and wife Laura of Humble, Texas, Steve Pavlat and wife Bernice of Cleveland, Texas, and Raymond Pavlat and wife Delores of Bertram, Texas. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Annie moved with her husband and children from Holland, Texas to Dayton, Texas in 1949 and farmed alongside her husband. She was a hard worker, spirited, energetic, and had a zest for life. Annie was a good cook and could cook almost anything. After the age of forty, she enlisted these skills when she began working for the Dayton Independent School District as a cook on the cafeteria staff. Blessed with good health long into her life, she retired in 1985 but continued working part time until 1994 when she was 85 years old. She received a plaque for 40 years of service.

Annie loved God, her church, family and friends. She and her husband Frank made sacrifices so their children could attend Catholic schools. It was always important for her to pass on her religious values to her children and grandchildren.

Annie loved to garden and grow all kinds of plants. Her greatest enjoyment, though, was hunting and fishing. She killed her last deer at the age of 92 but continued hunting until the age of 94. She could fish for hours even if she did not have a catch.

Annie left a wonderful legacy of memories. She will be missed. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Father Anthony Alphonse of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bertram, Texas for the lovely service. They would also like to thank the staff of Bertram Nursing Home and Odyssey Healthcare for the excellent care Annie received during her time there.

McNulty

Robert Lynn McNulty, 65, of Moss Hill, died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Bayshore Medical Center of Houston.

Born to parents Chap McNulty and Jewel Pickle in Houston Texas, he had lived in Moss Hill since 1979 and was a retired Barber.

Robert is survived by Aunts; Opal Caldwell of Roanoke Virginia, Maxine Burnett of Magnolia TX. Sister; Judy Hall and family of Anahuac. Good friends; Laura Wilcox of Hardin, Amber Pace of Hardin, Greg Wilcox and wife Misstie and sons of Hardin, Gina Noblitt and husband Scott of Dallas, Martha McCarthy of Liberty and more numerous friends.

Robert requested that his remains be cremated. Cremation handled under the direction of Faith & Family Funeral Services of Batson 40847 Hwy 105 E. 936-262-2100

King

Mary Maxine King died Thursday, July 9, 2009.

She was born in Batson, Texas, the youngest daughter of Benjamin Lawrence Jordan and Elizabeth Redding Jordan. When Maxine was 19, she went alone by bus to Los Angeles, California, to marry the love of her life, Arvie E. King, who had been her “across the highway” neighbor.

Besides her parents, Mary Maxine was predeceased in death by her husband, Arvie King and their infant son, Larry Phillip King; her sisters, Edna Allman, Mae Troncale, and Clara Marie Nightengale; brothers, Ben Lee Jordan and William “Bill” Clark Jordan and nephew, James Holland. She is survived by her nephew, Rodney Nightengale; two nieces, Betty Davis and Helen Holick, and her very dear friend, Charles Wendt.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2009 from 5-7pm at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home 10AM Thursday, with Rev. Fred Herb Stallknecht, retired United Methodist Minister with music provided by Fred Mehl.

Burial to immediately follow the service in Guedry cemetery, Batson. Honorary Pallbearers: Homer Batten, Larry Moseley, Charles Wendt. Pallbearers Rick Hollingshead, Fred Mehl, Gary Hagen, Ronald Wendt, and John Strong.

Desormeaux

William Joseph Desormeaux, age 38, died suddenly Thursday, July 9, 2009 at his home in Liberty.

He was born in Anahuac, September 10, 1970, the son of Francis Ernest Desormeaux Sr. and the late Thelma Jean Stark.

He was a self-employed electrician apprentice, who enjoyed hot rods and spending time with his children.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

He leaves behind his father, Francis E. Desormeaux Sr. of Anahuac, his children, Amber Desormeaux, of Baytown, Savannah Desormeaux of Liberty, Tina Perez of Baytown and Laurena Brisboy of Liberty. Brothers James “Bubba” Dubose of New Iberia, LA and Francis Desormeaux of Kingland, Texas. As well as a sister Angie Dubose and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1-3pm Monday July 13, 2009 at Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Anahuac with a funeral service to be held at 3pm. Cremation services to follow.

Johnson

Lavern Lavate (Fairfield) Johnson, 83, of Liberty, Texas died Wednesday, July 8, 2009.

She was born December 24, 1925 in Heber Springs, Arkansas to Thomas Wayne and Maudie Fairfield. Lavern enjoyed tending to her flower beds and traveling. She loved people, being around them and helping them.

Lavern was preceded in death by her loving husband, T.O. Johnson; parents; brothers, Jim Fairfield and Butch Fairfield; sister, Francis Rackley; and step-mother, Bertha Fairfield. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Rios and husband Roy of Dallas; son, Wayne Johnson and wife Lenore of Bryan; granddaughters, Robin Logan and husband Jesse of Dayton and Makenzie Burk of Houston; great-granddaughter, Kira Logan; brothers, Irvin Fairfield and wife Rhonda of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and Thomas Fairfield of Heber Springs, Arkansas; sister, Robbie Fairfield of Heber Springs, Arkansas; niece, Mandy Coverstone and husband David of Salem, Oregon; and numerous more relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from six until eight o’clock in the evening Friday, July 10th at Sterling Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, July 11th in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home with interment to follow in Palms Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17 Chicago, Ill. 60601-7633 or the American Diabetes Association P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria, VA 22312.
