Betty Jane “La Guera” Soto, 67, passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 1999 in Laredo. She was born in Wauwatsosa Tup, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.
A rosary was held at Buitron Funeral Home, 4502 Thomas Ave., on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999 at 7 p.m. Visitation was held from 4 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Encinal, TX., at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999.
The funeral procession will depart Buitron Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Mario Medina, Juan Medina III, Joaquin Carrillo, David Hernandez, Rolando Smith and Federico Calderon.

Anita Tamez Gonzalez
Anita Tamez Gonzalez, 62, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999 in Laredo. She was born in Laredo.
Mrs. Gonzalez was a lifelong resident of Laredo. She was employed as a registrar for the Laredo Independent School District for 25 years and most recently was at the Vidal M. Treviño Magnet School.
She was preceded in death by her father, Juan Liberato Tamez; son, Jerry Gonzalez and brother, Luis Victor Tamez.
She is survived by her husband, Alfredo Gonzalez; children, Christina G. (Jose) Gamez, Alfredo (Patricia) Gonzalez, Alberto (San Juanita) Gonzalez, all of Laredo; daughter-in-law, Duvina Fasci Gonzalez of Laredo; grandchildren, Jose Alfredo Gamez, Jessica Gamez, Alfredo Gonzalez III, Armando and Alexis Gonzalez, Alberto Gonzalez Jr., Alejandro Gonzalez, Andres Gerardo Gonzalez and Dayna Morales; great-grandchild, Jose Alfredo Gamez Jr.; mother, Crispina V. Tamez of Laredo; brother, Juan Teodoro Tamez of Laredo; mother-in-law, Anita Garza of Laredo; sister-in-law, Ruby Tamez of Laredo; also, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
A rosary will be recited Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at 7 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held Friday, Dec. 31, 1999 at 8 a.m. from the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel, 310 Hillside, to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Mass to begin at 8:30 a.m.
Interment will follow in the Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home, Brad Jackson, Director.

Elena G. Cisneros, 87, passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 1999 Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. from the Hernandez Lopez & Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St at San Bernardo Ave. Holy Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Committal services and interment were held in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jose G. Trevino, Dennis Cisneros, Carlos Orengo, Jason Lewis, Anthony M. Gay, Stephen M. Lewis, Sr., Emilio Garza, III, and Rolando Gonzalez.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hernandez Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Laredo (956) 723-2979.

Josefina A. Hernandez
Josefina A. Hernandez, 63, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999 at a local hospital.
Mrs. Hernandez was born in Nuevo Laredo, Tamps but lived most of her life in Laredo. Her family will treasure her great sense of humor which she shared with her family. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Her great spirit will continue in all her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Hernandez was preceded in death by her parents, Benito and Evangelina Aguirre and her daughter, Maria Elena Hernandez.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years of marriage, Jesus Hernandez of Laredo; her seven daughters, Maria Elena Hernandez of Chicago, Magdalena (Javier) Sanchez of Chicago, Sylvia (Arturo) Ortegon of Laredo, Imelda (Victor) Villa of Chicago, Graciela (Carlos) Rosales of Chicago, Laura (Lysander) Hernandez of Chicago and JoAnn (Robertino) Riojas of McAllen; her five sons, Jaime (Norma) Hernandez of Laredo, Joel (Beatriz) Hernandez of Chicago, Jesus (Julia) Hernandez of Laredo, Jose (Gloria) Hernandez of Cotulla and Jorge (Diana) Hernandez of Laredo; 31 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Isidro (Olga) Aguirre of Laredo, Jesus (Francisca) Aguirre of San Antonio, Angela (Rufino) Acosta of San Antonio, Ana Maria (Oscar) Martinez of Laredo and Margarita Aguirre of Laredo; also numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly.
A rosary will be recited on Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at 7 p.m. at Joe  Jackson Springfield Chapels, 1900 Springfield. Visitation will be held from 6 to 10 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 31, 1999 at 8 a.m. from Joe  Jackson Springfield Chapels, 1900 Springfield, to San Luis Rey Catholic Church for a holy mass at 8:30 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Isidro Aguirre, Jesus Hernandez, Jaime Hernandez, Jose Hernandez, Lysander Hernandez, Robert Hernandez, Joseph Hernandez, John Eric Ortegon and Louis Antonio Rodriguez.
Interment will be at the family’s plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Joe  Jackson Springfield Chapels, 1900 Springfield.

Aurelio Campos
Aurelio Campos, 95, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999 at 8:15 a.m. from the Hernandez Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Holy Mass was celebrated at 8:30 a.m. at San Luis Rey Catholic Church.
Committal services and interment were held in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gregorio Rivera, Severo Rivera, Aurelio Campos, Adolfo Campos, Jr., Alejandro Rivera, Jose Luis Rangel, Mario Esparza, and Roberto Rangel.

Arturo Silva Jr.
Arturo Silva Jr., 56, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999 at a local hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Arturo Silva, Sr., and Mrs. Concepcion Rodriguez Silva.
He is survived by his children, Rebecca (Ricardo) Robles, Elizabeth (Pablo) Contreras, Arturo Silva, III, Alberto Silva, and Armando Silva; grandchildren, Carmen Robles, Ricardo Robles, Jr., Yvette Silva, and Pablo Contreras, Jr.; brothers, Carlos
Silva and Jesus Silva; sisters, Rosa Silva and Ana Silva; former wife, Esmeralda Pena.

Miss Olga Villarral
Miss Olga Villarreal, 79, passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 1999 at a local hospital.
Miss Villarreal was born in Laredo, TX. She had been a resident of California for approximately 30 years. After her retirement from The May Company, Miss Villarreal had made
Laredo her home for the past 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Jose Guadalupe Villarreal and Mrs. Ramona G. Villarreal. Also by a brother, Victor Villarreal, and a very dear niece, Ramona Melissa Gomez.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Guadalupe V. Quezada, Evangelina Villarreal, Maria Villarreal, Cristobal (Guadalupe) Villarreal, Josefina (Luis) Diaz de Leon, Carmen (Ramiro) Lobo, and Alicia Villarreal Gallardo; 27 loving and caring nieces and nephews; also, other immediate relatives and many friends who will miss her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec 30, 1999 from 3 to 9 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez Lopez & Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave.
Funeral services will begin at 8:40 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 31, 1999 from the Hernandez Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels.
Holy Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
Interment will then follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pedro “Peter” Treviño III
Pedro “Peter” Treviño III, 27, passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999 at a local hospital.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning, Dec. 29, 1999 at 9:30 a.m. from Joe  Jackson Springfield Chapels, 1900 Springfield, to San Luis Rey Catholic Church for a holy mass at 10 a.m.
Pallbearers were Joe Cruz, Neto Cruz, Rodolfo Quiroz Jr., Danny Garcia, Johnny Garcia, Freddy Perez, Tino Leal, Manuel Garcia Jr., Jesus Palma, Arturo Treviño, Freddy Gonzalez, David Barrero, Bernie Garcia, Adrian Castillo, Jaime Tovar and Andy Castillo.
Honorary pallbearers were Pedro Treviño Jr., Arcadio Tovias, Sergio Tovias and Valeriano Hernandez.
Also attending services were Peter’s co-workers of Camh Star Forwarding Inc.
Interment followed in the family’s plot in Calvary Catholic Cemetery Arrangements are under the direction of Joe  Jackson Springfield Chapels, 1900 Springfield.

Sofia Silvia Gallego, 73, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999 at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999. Procession will depart funeral home at 10:30 a.m. to San Jose Church. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
