Funeral arrangements for Lois Baker, 85, of Grapeland, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Baker died Saturday afternoon at Spring Season Nursing Home in Elkhart.

Susie Pryor Acker

Services for Susie Pryor Acker, 85, of Maydelle, will be at 3 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Maydelle with the Revs. W.F. Sides and Don Copland officiating. Burial will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Maydelle under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Jacksonville.

Mrs. Acker died Friday at a Tyler hospital.

She was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Maydelle.
Mrs. Acker was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Maydelle.

She is survived by her spouse, Reagan Acker of Maydelle; children, James Acker of Jacksonville, Ronald Acker of Killeen, Laverne Blackmon of Palestine and Sharon Summers of Jacksonville; daughter-in-law, Glenda Acker of Killeen; sons-in-law, Mickey Blackmon of Palestine and Scott Summers of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Glen Acker, John Acker, Kevin Blackmon, Stephen Blackmon, James Strube and Scott Summers.

Cora Fryar

Services for Cora Fryar, 99, of Palestine will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Michael Mynatt officiating. Burial will be in Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Fryar died early Thursday morning at Cartmell Home for the Aged.
She was born Feb. 25, 1903 in Elkhart to Alex Glenn and Jennie Howell Glenn.
Mrs. Fryar was a homemaker and a member of Norwood Heights Baptist Church and the Rebecca Lodge. She was an American Red Cross Grey Lady.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Fryar, in 1968; son, Clarence Fryar Jr.; sisters, Hattie Weatherford and Vesta Self; and brother, Vernon Glenn.
Mrs. Fryar is survived by two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Condolence calls will be accepted from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Lila A. Williams

Services for Lila A. Williams, 95, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church of Montalba.
Mrs. Williams died Monday.
A viewing will be held today at Golden Gate Funeral Home at St. Mary’s Chapel at 2349 Cedar Crest Blvd. of Dallas.

Elroy “Roy” Knollenberg

Funeral services for Elroy “Roy” Knollenberg, 86, of Palestine are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Knollenberg died this morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Shelby Nicole Grogan

Services for infant Shelby Nicole Grogan will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church of Grapeland with the Revs. Duane Mills and Josh Mills officiating. Burial will be in a private cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
The infant was stillborn Thursday morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
The infant is survived by parents, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Grogan of Slocum; sister, Kaylee Grogan of Slocum; grandparents, Donald and Barbara Starkey of Slocum and Hanry and Linda Brown of Grapeland; great-grandparents, Kenneth and Lenora Minze of Spring and Virginia Brown of Harrison, Ark.
The family will receive condolence calls from 6 to 8 p.m. today at New Hope Baptist Church.

Cherry Rice Mitchell

Services for Cherry Rice Mitchell, 41, of North Richland Hills, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Fort Worth with the Rev. Cornelius Hudson officiating. All arrangements are being handled by McCoy Funeral Home. She was cremated and will have her ashes scattered over the Gulf of Mexico.
She was born Nov. 14, 1960 in Beaumont to Webster and Ella Mae  Washington Rice.
While living in Palestine she was an active volunteer at the Multi-Cultural Education Center. She worshipped at The Potter’s House in Dallas and was a student at Tarrant Community College in Fort Worth.
Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her mother; twin sons, Dameris and Darius; another son, Demetrius; and a grandmother, Eleanor Clark.
She is survived by her husband, Mitch Mitchell of North Richland Hills; daughter, Daishea Mitchell of Grapevine; her father of Beaumont; sisters, Emily Jenkins and Linda Anderson, both of Houston, and Janie Riehm of Patterson, La.; brother, Jimmy  Washington of Sugar Land; a grandfather, Cupid Clark of Opelousas, La.; and two grandchildren.

Marie McDonald

Services for Marie McDonald, 86, of Grapeland, will be at 2 p.m. today at Muse Baptist Church with the Rev. Max Smith officiating. Burial will be in Muse Cemetery.
Mrs. McDonald died Friday at the Grapeland Nursing Center in Grapeland.
She was born Oct. 9, 1915 in Houston County to William  Jefferson  Jones and Canzada Oates Jones.
Mrs. McDonald was a member of the Sand Flat Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, V.E. McDonald, in 2000.
Mrs. McDonald is survived by daughter, Joy Batts of Grapeland; sons, C.R. Chambers of Humble; sister, Ruth Wooten of Dallas; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Iola Cook
Services for Iola Cook, 82, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Fellowship Christian Church with the Revs. Vernon C.  Jackson and Norvie Cottingham officiating. Burial will follow at Bluff Springs Cemetery in Elkhart under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cook died Friday at Medical Center in Lancaster.
She was born April 30, 1920, in Elkhart to Crockett and Lelar Mosley Davis.
Mrs. Cook attended school at Cedar Branch, County Line and Boxie Creek. She united with Fulton Street Christian Church which later was named New Fellowship. She was the church mother and an usher for many years. She was a homemaker, midwife and seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Fred Lee Cook, on March 16, 1985; son, Fred L. Cook Jr.; brothers, Levard Davis, Woodrow Davis and Warren Davis; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cook is survived by daughter, Celestine Cook Morrison of Dallas; sons, Elbert L. Cook of Palestine, Frank J. Cook and John L. Cook, both of Dallas; brother, Willie Sam Davis of Palestine; 31 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Rodney B. Cole, Lynwood Cook, Morris Cook, Jim Evans, Clinton R. Morrison and Kevin L. Morrison. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

J.B. Crist Jr.
Services for J.B. Crist Jr., 52 will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Crist died Aug. 15 at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born June 11, 1950, in Palestine to J.B. Crist Sr. and Delores Bowman Crist.
Mr. Crist graduated from Palestine High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was employed as a cook and concrete finisher.
He was a member of Mount Vernon African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Mr. Crist was preceded in death by his mother; stepfather, Abel Jackson; grandmother, Nellie Mae Sloan; grandfather, Theodore Crist Sr.
He is survived by his father, J.B. Crist Sr. of Houston; grandmother, Lottie Crist of Palestine; daughter, Tina Crist Clater of Palestine; son, Clifton Crist of Fort Worth; sisters, Vanessa Stephens and Jacqueline Cotton, both of Houston; brothers, George Ray Micheaux and Anthony Q. Crist, both of Palestine; and five grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Ronyell Cotton, Darrell Crist Sr., Derrick Crist, Dornell Crist Jr., Leo Crist Jr. and Russell Crist Sr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Lee Birdow, Dornell Crist Sr., David Roberts and the stewards of Mount Vernon AME Church.
The family will receive condolence calls from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Gene Gilley
Memorial services for Gene Gilley, 72, of Palestine, will be held at a later date. Local arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
Mr. Gilley died Tuesday at East  Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
He was born May 28, 1930 in Jacksboro to A.W. Gilley and Marie Gilley.
Mr. Gilley was a veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and served in the Korean War. He was a former owner operator of Palestine Tire Service.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Gilley is survived by his wife, Marie Gilley of Palestine; his mother, Marie Gilley of Freeport; sister, Velma Gussman of Corpus Christi; and brother, Kenny Gilley of Freeport.

Raymond Hardy

Services for Raymond Hardy, 67, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Revs. Roger Seago and Larry Trest officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Seamans Cemetery in Chester.
Mr. Hardy died Tuesday at the Hospice Home Place in Tyler.
He was born July 20, 1935, in Chester to L.V. Hardy and Helen Seamans Hardy.
Mr. Hardy was a member of Long Lake Baptist Church. He was self-employed as a heavy equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by his father; and sister, Mary Gutzke.
Mr. Hardy is survived by his wife, Emma Hardy of Palestine; mother, Helen Seamans Hardy of Palestine; daughter, Darlene Thornton of Kilgore; sons, Charles R. “Chuck” Hardy Jr. of Tennessee Colony and Mike Hardy of Crockett; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be the Rev. David Taylor, Harold Scales, Don Grant, Johnny Kluth, Wilburn Neal and Sonny Guess.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brent Hardy and Keith Thornton.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marie Alford
Services for Marie Alford, 77, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
Mrs. Alford died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 6, 1924 in Lovelady to Sidney Lawrence McClain and Rose Etta Marlar McClain.
Mrs. Alford was a homemaker and member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 3907.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Lloyd, Hubert and Bobby McClain.
Mrs. Alford is survived by sons, David L. Alford of Elkhart and Bruce A. Alford of Elkhart; sister, Betty L. Alford of Shepard; brother, Jim McClain of Baytown; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Katie O. Whittington
Services for Katie O. Whittington, 76, of Burkburnett, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield. Burial will be in Dew Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield.
Mrs. Whittington died Tuesday in Wichita Falls.
She was born June 4, 1926 in Fairfield.
Mrs. Whittington was a retired nurse and member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Burkburnett. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Whittington in 1988; and a grandson, Michael Shawn Whittington.
Mrs. Whittington is survived by a son, Andy Whittington of Temple, Okla.; sisters, Pauline Lane of Fairfield, Christine Glover of Diboll, Dorothy Chapman of Fairfield and Rose Whittington of Dew; one grandchild; and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elmo Lee Rose Jr.
Services for Elmo Lee Rose Jr., 72, of Waco, formerly of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Meadowbrook Baptist Church with Dr. Eric Holleyman officiating. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park. Pecan Grove Funeral Home of Waco is handling arrangements.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Rose died Wednesday in a Waco hospital.
He was born Aug. 22, 1929 in Palestine to Elmo Lee Rose Sr. and Evelyn P. Turner Rose.
Mr. Rose graduated from Palestine High School and Nixon Business College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-54 before being discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was a telegrapher for Missouri Pacific Railroad. He worked for the  Texas Department of Public Safety, working in Houston, Beaumont and Waco. He was promoted to captain in 1976 and completed his 32 years of service with the department in Corpus Christi. He then took a job as a security officer at  Texas National Bank in Corpus Christi. He retired in 1993.
He was a member of Herring Lodge 1224 in Waco and Independence Lodge 1337 in Corpus Christi. He served as Worshipful Master of Independence Lodge from 1981-82. He served as District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District 61B in 1990, District Instructor in 1988-89 and District Masonic Relations Officer in 1991-92. He was a member of McLennan Chapter 639 Order of the Eastern Star where he served as Past Patron and on many committees. He was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Robinson.
Mr. Rose was a past president and past historian of the Bosque River Sams RV Chapter.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Sloan Rose; sister, Lu Rose Hunt of League City; children, Rebecca Lynn Rose Bradford of Plano and David Glen Rose of Corpus Christi; and seven grandchildren.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Dallas.
