Robert Lawrence Holt

Services for Robert Lawrence Holt, 63, of Sommerville, and formerly of Palestine, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. Holt died Saturday at his residence.
He was born April 12, 1938, in Beaumont to William Soloman Holt and Nina Bell Randall Holt.
Mr. Holt was a retired truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Holt, in July 1994.
Mr. Holt is survived by son, Robbie Holt; one daughter; and brothers, Billy Holt and Cal Holt.

Ruth Pearl Meek

Services for Ruth Pearl Meek, 73, of Buffalo, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Holguin officiating. Burial will follow at Gourd Creek Cemetery in New Waverly.
Mrs. Meek died Saturday in Palestine.
She was born Dec. 7, 1928, in New Waverly to Precley M. and Delia (McMillan) Sims.
Mrs. Meek was preceded in death by son, Curtis Edward Meek; and great-grandson, Christian Bynum.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Henry Meek of Buffalo; daughters, Delores Meek Bynum and Brenda Meek Schaedler, both of Buffalo; brothers, Rueben M. Sims, David L. Sims and Fred W. Sims; sister, Wanda Sims Primrose; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be sent to Gourd Creek Cemetery Fund, in care of Joyce Pasket, at P.O. Box 332, New Waverly,  Texas, 77358.

Lisa Raley James

Funeral arrangements for Lisa Raley James, 47, are pending at Memorial Funeral Home of Buffalo.
Mrs. James died Sunday in Buffalo.

Elsie Perkins

Services for Elsie Perkins, 92, of Jacksonville, will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Neches City Cemetery. Burial will be in Neches City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Perkins died Friday in a Jacksonville nursing home.
She was born Oct. 15, 1910 in Arkansas to Homer Ward and Mary Alice Toney Ward.
Mrs. Perkins was a Methodist, a member of the Rebecca Lodge in Palestine and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A.R. “Sot” Perkins.
Mrs. Perkins is survived by a sister, Alice Glass of Jacksonville; and a brother, Joe Ward of Virginia.

W.A. Keils Jr.

Services for W.A. Keils Jr., of Teague, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First United Methodist Church of Teague. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Teague under the direction of Ricks/Bowers Funeral Home.
Mr. Keils was a 1952 graduate of the University of  Texas Law School and practiced law in Freestone County for 43 years before moving to Dallas in 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis Watson Keils; children, Kay Keils Poynor of Richmond, Va.; Kathy Keils of Auston and Karol Keils-Harrison of Dallas; sister, Norida Keils Meredith of Teague; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Donations may be made in memory of the deceased to The University of  Texas Ex-Students Association, P.O. Box 7278, Austin,  Texas 78713-7287.

Carl F. “Ned” Harrison

Services for Carl F. “Ned” Harrison, 85, of Fairfield, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Round Prairie Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Ridge officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Harrison died Friday in Fairfield.
He was born Nov. 11, 1917 in Dew to Buck and Emma Harrison.
Mr. Harrison was a lifetime resident of Freestone County.
He was a plumber and a member and past commander of the Fairfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5782; member of the Palestine Disable American Veterans; and a member of the American Legion.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Round Prairie Baptist Church in Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Finis Harrison; and two grandchildren, Carl Wayne Shamblin and Cynthia Shamblin.
Mr. Harrison is survived by his wife, Christine Ivy Harrison of Fairfield; daughters, Sarah Shamblin of Fairfield and Emma Grace Mooney of Alvin; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be A.C. Longino, Roy Casey Jr., Lindy Nichols, Fred Alpers, Pervis Black and Sid Lott Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hugh Reed Jr., Aubrey Childs, Randall Whitaker, Lane Stripling and members of the Round Prairie Sunday School Class.

Roy R. Avila

Services for Roy R. Avila, 52, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Zacharias Kunnakkattuthar officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

There will be a rosary service at 7 p.m. Monday at Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mr. Avila died Friday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

He lived in Palestine since 1986. He was disabled. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Mr. Avila is survived by his father, Sacariav Avila of California; his mother, Lala Cortez of Palestine; a son, Rodney Avila of Abilene; brothers, Eloy Avila of Palestine and Ramon and Armando Avila, both of Kansas; sisters, Amalia Rivera of California, Linda Ortega of Palestine, Edia Cortez of California, and Dianne Leiva of Pecos; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Avila, Carlos Ortega, Curtis Leiva, Nathan Major, Johnny Rosas and Paul Perea.

Visitation will follow the rosary Monday at the funeral home.

Jose Luis Garcia

Services for Jose Luis Garcia, 29, will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Katari Catholic Church in Buffalo. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery under the direction of Chapel of Memorial Funeral Home in Buffalo.

Mr. Garcia died Friday in Emory.
He lived in Buffalo for 25 years. He was Catholic.

Mr. Garcia was employed by Pate & Pate Construction.

He is survived by wife, Cindy Garcia of Buffalo; daughter, Bitture Yari Garcia of Buffalo; parents, Otilio and Maricela Garcia of Buffalo; brother, Rene Garcia of Buffalo; and sister, Cindy Garcia of Buffalo.

Pallbearers will be Rene Garcia, Alex Montano, Joel Montano, Gerald Montano, Fredrick Montano and Miguel Montano.

Charles Mervil Wood

Services for Charles Mervil Wood, 90, of Fairfield, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield with the Revs. Wayne Flowers and Mark Woodward officiating. Burial will follow in Fairfield Cemetery under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield.
Mr. Wood died Thursday at East  Texas Medical Center in Fairfield.
He was born Nov. 8, 1911, in Butler.
Mr. Wood lived in Fairfield most of his life. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1929 and was the recipient of the Lon Morris tennis scholarship. He graduated from Sam Houston with a B.S., and the University of Houston with a Master of Education.
Mr. Wood was a teacher at St. Elmo and Shanks schools. He was elementary school principal in Kirbyville; and coach, principal and superintendent at Fairfield for a total of 19 years.
He was a Mason and a member and past president of the Fairfield Rotary Club. He also served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Mr. Wood was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he taught men’s Bible class.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Catherine Wood of Fairfield; daughter, Cathy Wood Lutes of Mount Pleasant; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Malcolm Wood, Bill Wood, Joe Neal Wood, John Wood Richter, Charles Wood, Robert Wood and Stephen Wilson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Richard Wayne Derrick

Services for Richard Wayne Derrick, 67, of Fairfield, will be at 3 p.m. today at Fairfield Cemetery with Rick Howerton officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
Mr. Derrick died Wednesday at East  Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
He was born May 23, 1935 in Snyder to Thomas R. and Geraldine Davis Derrick.
Mr. Derrick was a retired construction contractor. He had lived in Fairfield for the last four years. He served in the United States Army.
Mr. Derrick was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Timothy Wayne Derrick, in 1989.
Mr. Derrick is survived by his wife, Connie Derrick of Fairfield; daughters, Marva Towns of Whitney, Tammy Derrick of Little Elm and Jeanna Kay Derrick of Fairfield; son, Ronnie Lee of Whitney; brothers, Curtis Derrick of Whitney and Tony Carroll of Sulphur Springs; sister, Billie Gray of San Angelo; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Vernon Levels

Services for Vernon (Vonion) Levels, 94, of Teague will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Avant A.M.E. Church on CR 661 in Teague. Burial will follow in Avant Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home No. 2 in Teague.
Mr. Levels died Wednesday at East  Texas Medical Center in Fairfield.
He was born July 17, 1908, to George and Liddia Grayson Levels.
Mr. Levels attended school in the Salem community. He was a life member of Avant A.M.E. Church, where he served as a trustee. He also was a member of Sunlight Masonic Lodge No. 451 and served as secretary/treasurer.
Mr. Levels served on the South Freestone County Water Supply Cooperation Board & Farm Bureau.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Etta Peters Levels, on June 8, 1997.
Mr. Levels is survived by daughters, Verna Mae Bazy of Kansas City, Kan., Gwendolyn Williams of Ashebora, N.C., LaVera Burnim of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Bertha P. Conley of Fort Worth; sons, Marvin E. Levels and Wilmer G. Levels, both of Fort Worth; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A wake will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Iola Cook

Funeral arrangements for Iola Cook, 82, are pending at McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cook died Friday at Medical Center Lancaster.

Roy Ward

Services for Roy Ward, 93, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Bailey & Foster Chapel with Dr. Tom Rosseau officiating. Burial will be in Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mr. Ward died Saturday at Cartmell Home for Aged.

He was born Aug. 27, 1909 in Montalba to George  Washington Ward Sr. and Effie Harding Ward.

Mr. Ward was a member of First Christian Church. Before retiring, he was a traffic coordinator for Glass Containers.

Mr. Ward was preceded in death by a son, John Frank Ward.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Auld Ward of Palestine; and sisters, Lucille Cook of Palestine and Ruth Marie Recane of Montalba.

Pallbearers will be Judge Bascom Bentley, John Becker, C.C. Clifton, Earnest Swift, Cliff  Johnson and George Patton.

Honorary pallbearers will be men of Judge E.V. Swift Sunday School Class of First Christian Church.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lois Mock

Services for Lois Mock, 87, of Elkhart, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Antioch Chapel near Silsbee with the Rev. Delman Lee Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mrs. Mock died Friday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 16, 1915 in Livingston to Zack Williams and Margaret Henrietta Rozelle Williams.

Mrs. Mock was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by sons, Luther James Mock of Palestine, Robert Earl Mock of Kirbyville and Thomas Mock of Harleton; sister, Beatrice Palmer of Houston; brother, Curtis Williams of Conroe; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve Mock, Robert Mock, Trey Berryman, Carl Stephens, Gerald Moore, Willie Hill, Phil Roger and Zane Oliver.

Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Hamby, Leon Broom, Darin Tingley, Son Hare and Eugene Wagner.

Condolence calls will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
