AMONATE, Va. -- Mrs. Beulah Helen "Granny" Hawley, 77, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998 in a Richlands hospital.
She was a native of Beckley, W.Va.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Mackert, Thomasville, N.C.; one granddaughter, Mrs. Etta Rae Hagerman, Amonate; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Brandon Hagerman, Bishop; one half-brother, Richard Smithson, Beckley; and one half-sister, Dolly Stover, Beckley.
The family will receive friends at the home in Amonate, Wednesday afternoon.

COEBURN -- Patsy Jordan McReynolds, 49, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Kingsport.
She was a native of Wise County, a 1966 graduate of St. Paul High School and was a secretary in the Chancellor's office at Clinch Valley College.
She was a member of Castlewood Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband Thaddeus "Tad" McReynolds; one daughter, Kelly Ann McReynolds, Coeburn; her mother, Beulah N. Jordan, St. Paul; three sisters, Nancy Jordan Maine, Kingsport, Linda Jo Jordan, St. Paul and Susan Jordan Stanley, Coeburn; two brothers, Larry Wayne Jordan, Coeburn, and Robert Allen Jordan, Pound; and several nieces and nephews.

NICKLESVILLE, Va. -- Dorothy Ruth Dockery Mullins, 60, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Kingsport.
She was a lifelong resident of Scott County and a homemaker.
She was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Culbertson Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was the widow of Ceburn Mullins.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna M. Hamilton, Nickelsville; two grandchildren; three brothers, Howard Dockery, Nickelsville, John Dockery, Continental, Ohio, and Fred Dockery, Gate City; and several nieces and nephews.

Bertha Presley
KINGSPORT -- Mrs. Bertha Presley, 86, of 4234 Ridge Road, formerly of Honaker, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
She was a native of Council, Va., and had lived in the Kingsport area for the past four years, moving from Honaker.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was the widow of Ezra Presley.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. George (Ona) Runyon, Elkton, Md., and Eula Jones, Kingsport; one sister, Myrtle McCracken, Dayton, Ohio; four brothers, Roy Ball and Boyd K. Ball, both of Dayton, Ohio, M.F. Ball Jr., and Harry B. Ball, both of Honaker; her stepmother, Grace Keen, Council; one half-sister, Helen Stevens, Davenport, Va.; five half-brothers, Harold Ball, Orlando, Fla., Franklin D. Ball, Roanoke, Clyde Ball, Jack Ball and Earl Ball, all of Council; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

WHEATON, Md. -- Lora N. Hale Rhrbough, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, in Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, W.Va.
She was a former resident of Castlewood, and the widow of Cleon Rhrbough.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Kurtz, Fredrick, Md., and Sandra Matthews, Evans, W.Va.; four sisters, Eva Nell Phillips, Castlewood, Mary Edmonds, Bristol, Virginia, Ann Brewington, Arlington, Va., and Lottie Froman, Silver Spring, Md.; one brother, Bill Hall, Scottsville, Va.; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday in Silver Spring, Md.

He was a native of Richlands, Va., and had lived the last several years in Triangle, Va.

BIG STONE GAP -- Bertha Marie Spears, 74, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, in Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap.
She was a native of Lee County and had lived most of her life in the area.
She was a life-long member of Valley View Primitive Baptist Church, Dryden, Va.
Survivors include her husband, Hubert K. Spears; four daughters, Betty Kirk, Dryden, Dianne Talbott and Pam Stidham, both of Big Stone Gap and Terri Wisniewski, Cleveland; two sons, Jeff Peters and Mark Peters, both of Cleveland; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Cox, Hendersonville, N.C.; one brother, Frank Crawford, Fayetteville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Nellie J. Thompson
GREER, S.C. -- Mrs. Nellie Jean Cumbow Thompson, 59, of 103 Mockingbird Lane, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Abingdon and had received a bachelor of science degree from Eastern Illinois University.
She received her registered nurse training from Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, and also was a member of Northeast Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, William D. Thompson; two daughters, Tamra L. Toussaint, Gaithersburg, Md., and Angela R. Thompson, Greenville; one son, Darrell W. Thompson, Greer; two brothers, J.W. Cumbow, Rural Retreat, and Ronald Cumbow, Atkins, Va.; three sisters, Pauline Holmes, Abingdon, Alice Cumbow, Bristol, Virginia, and Dorothy ReMine, Roanoke.
Funeral services will be held Thursday in Greer, S.C.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Edgar Everette Whittaker, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998 in Virginia Veterans Care Center, Roanoke.
He was a native of Pound, a retired carpenter and a member of the Methodist Church.
He was a lifetime sportsman, military veteran and story teller.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Bolling Whittaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Delores Pinard, Fredericksburg, Va., and Paula Alley, Wilmington, N.C.; two sons, Ronald Whittaker, Wilmington, and Newton Whittaker, Roanoke; one sister, Ellen Mullins, Pound; three brothers, Hubert Whittaker, Albert Whittaker and Charles Whittaker; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
