Maurice W. Godbey Sr.

MEADOWVIEW -- Maurice W. Godbey Sr., 90, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Meadowview and was retired from Raytheon after 20 years of service.
He was a member of the Spring City Baptist Church in Cleveland, Va., and a former member of the Meadowview United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Stevens Godbey; a son, Mark W. Godbey of Abingdon; a brother, Benjamin Godbey of Summerfield, Fla.; two sisters, Edith Dugger of Elizabethton, and Jewel McDonald of Whitter, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
Farris Funeral Service of Abingdon is in charge.

Ralph H. Hawkins

Ralph H. Hawkins, 80, of Bristol Tennessee, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Abingdon and a resident of Bristol most of his life.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Valleydale Packers, Inc., where he served as plant superintendent.
Mr. Hawkins was a member of the Shrine Lodge and a member of State Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Olivene Maiden Hawkins; a daughter, Cathy Tolley of Goldsboro, N.C.; a son, Kelly Hawkins of Forest City, N.C.; two brothers, Earl Hawkins and H.R. Hawkins, both of Culpeper, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Akard Funeral Home is in charge.

Raymond F. Kreiner

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Raymond Frederick Kreiner, 89, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999.
He was a native of Wapello, Iowa, graduated from Cornell College and received a graduate degree from American University in Chicago.
He was professor of music at Taylor University in Upland, Ind., Sullins College and Virginia High School in Bristol Virginia, and at Peace College in Raleigh.
Mr. Kreiner was Minister of Music at First Presbyterian Church for 25 years and directed music for Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church and Rex Hospital School of Nursing.
He was a 50-year member of the Raleigh Kiwanis Club and a former president and member of the Raleigh Music Club.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther Fisher of Lena, Ill., and his second wife, Tora Ladu of Raleigh.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Kreiner; three sons, Karl Kreiner of Glendale, Calif., John Kreiner and Raymond Kreiner, both of Atlanta; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Chadwick of Costa Mesa, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in Raleigh.
Contributions may be made to the Raymond and Esther Kreiner Music Scholarship Fund at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.

Helen W. Lewis

MEMPHIS -- Helen L. Watterson Lewis, 50, died Sunday, March 7, 1999, in Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis.
She was a native of Kingsport and attended Douglas High School. While living in Kingsport, she was a member of Central Baptist Church.
She was an employee of Trans Union Credit Bureau in Memphis.
Survivors include her husband, Calvin V. Lewis Sr.; a son, Calvin V. Lewis Jr. of Memphis; her mother, Lucille Watterson of Kingsport; a brother, Anderson H. Watterson of Kingsport; and a sister, Andra Watterson of Marietta, Ga.
Funeral services will be held Friday in Memphis.

Fred R. Massengill

PINEY FLATS -- Fred R. "John Booty" Massengill, 63, of 325 McKamey St., died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County, a retired truck driver employed with Mason-Dixon, and the Johnson City Herb & Metal Company, Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Massengill; a daughter, Kimberly Kiser of Cleveland, Va.; three sons, Gary Stephen Massengill of Piney Flats, Fred Robert Massengill and Mark Eugene Massengill, both of Bluff City; three sisters, Shirley Proffitt of Bluff City, Cathy Reedy of Easley, S.C., and Faye Berry of Johnson City; a brother, Dean "Rusty" Massengill of Bluff City; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.

Connie S. Mullins

CASTLEWOOD -- Connie Sue Mullins, 58, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
She was a native of Russell County and a resident of Maple Grove Health Care Center in Lebanon for the past several years.
She was a graduate of Dungannon High School and attended the House of Prayer Church in Castlewood.
Survivors include a daughter, Cathy McCracken of Gate City; two sons, Gary Mullins of Lebanon, and Tony Mullins of Castlewood; a sister, Faye Gillenwater of Lebanon; two brothers, Joe Hicks of Castlewood, and Jesse Hicks of Dungannon; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge.

Hugh H. O'Dell

BLUFF CITY -- Hugh Haskell O'Dell, 84, of 239 Maplehurst Lane, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County, a member of Operating Engineers Local 917 and was retired from Bristol Steel. He was a member of Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Gene (Margaret Jane) Camper of Bluff City; two sons, James Malcolm O'Dell of Kingsport, and John H. O'Dell of Bluff City; a brother, Webb O'Dell of Bluff City; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.

Virgie Mae O'Neal

Virgie Mae Guinn O'Neal, 73, of Bristol Tennessee, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Sullivan County, a lifelong resident of Bristol, and a former employee of Bristol Memorial Hospital.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Shelby Street Church of God, and the widow of Jessie James O'Neal.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Linda) Carrier and Mrs. Jerry (Phyllis) Trivett, both of Bluff City, and Mrs. Charles (Louise) Scott of Bristol Tennessee; two sons, Bobby Guinn and Billy Joe Guinn, both of Bristol Tennessee; three stepchildren, Christine Tomlinson, Vanessa Bullock and James O'Neal; a sister, Margaret White of Bristol Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Jerry W. Shrader

TAMPA, Fla. -- Jerry Wayne Shrader, 40, died Friday, March 5, 1999, in Tampa.
He was a native of Norfolk and had lived in Tampa for several years.
He was a construction laborer.
Survivors include a son, Jeremy Honaker of Glade Spring, Va.; his father and stepmother, Junior and Violet Shrader of Haines City, Fla.; his mother Shirley of Virginia; two brothers, Gary Allen Shrader of Gladys, Va., and Louis Shrader of Elizabeth City, N.C.

Mary H. Smith

COEBURN -- Mary Hedrick Smith, 91, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, in Norton Community Hospital in Norton.
She was a member of Mary's Chapel Church and was the widow of Lee Smith.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Leon (Deloris) Green of Kingsport; two sons, Mendol Eugene Smith of Coeburn, and Lee Smith Jr. of Jonesborough; a sister, Myrtle Cumberland of Sun City, Fla.; three grandsons; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

Dorothy W. Snavely

MARION -- Dorothy W. Snavely, 82, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was the widow of Boyd A. Snavely and a member of Marion Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Virginia) Owens and Mrs. Ed (Tootsie) Foster, both of Marion; a son, William Johnson of Marion; four sisters, Mary Carson, Clara Kalcynski and Cornelia Webb, all of Lynchburg, and Geneva Carson of Mechanicsville, Va.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
