George A. Maiden

ABINGDON -- Memorial services celebrating the life of George Allen Maiden will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Emory & Henry Chapel. The Revs. Bill Rowland and Betty Reiff will officiate. Prior to the memorial service, private graveside services will be held at Holston Confeence Cemetery. The Rev. David St. Clair will officiate.
Mr. Maiden, 83, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Meadowview, a son of the late Ernest E. and Elizabeth Caldwell Maiden. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Emory & Henry College and was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific.
He was employed with Mason-Dixon for 43 years and retired in 1981 as senior vice president of industrial relations. During his career, he lived in Atlanta until 1958, when he moved to Kingsport.
He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Holston Valley Community Hospital, Broad Street United Methodist Church and Kingsport Rotary Club. He moved to Abingdon in 1992, where he became a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church and the Abingdon Rotary Club. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.
Mr. Maiden was a longtime member of the Board of Trustees of Emory & Henry College and a former president of Emory & Henry Alumni Association.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Jewel Mobley Maiden; two daughters, Beth M. Mahaffey of Abingdon and Margie M. Dye of Kingsport; a brother, Wiley Maiden of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Helen Dodson of Nashville and Gretchen Kendrick of Meadowview; and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Maiden was also preceded in death by a brother, Roger Maiden.
Among survivors are sons-in-law, John Mahaffey of Abingdon and Donald Dye of Kingsport; and grandchildren, David Dean, Elizabeth Dean, Alice Sword and Emily Davis.
Pallbearers will be sons-in-law, grandson, grandsons-in-law and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Board of Trustees at Emory & Henry College.
The family will receive friends following the service Sunday in Mason Hall at Emory & Henry College.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Ernest and Elizabeth Maiden Memorial Fund, Emory & Henry College, or to Abingdon United Methodist Church.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Dean Martin

LEBANON -- Dean Martin, 75, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Clinch Valley Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Lebanon and a farmer. He was a member of Bascum United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are two brothers, Jack Martin of Lebanon and Lloyd Martin of Blountville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 8 p.m. in Lebanon Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Fred Minnick will officiate. Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Martin Family Cemetery in the Green Valley community of Lebanon.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by four sisters, Nettie McFarlane, Elizabeth Walters, Ruth Hall and Mabel Stallard; and five brothers, Steve Martin, James Martin, Charles Martin, Bert Martin and Lilburn Martin.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in Lebanon Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Bascum United Methodist Church or American Diabetes. Foundation.

Eula T. McGlocklin

CHILHOWIE -- Funeral services for Eula Tuggle McGlocklin will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. Elder Eddie Lyles will officiate. Burial will be in Rush Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. McGlocklin, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000.
She was born in Russell County, a daughter of the late Lem Davis and Lou Eller Hunt Tuggle, and was the widow of Gordon Ray McGlocklin.
She was a member of Rush Creek Primative Baptist Church. She retired from Harwood Manufacturing of Abingdon and was a 25-year member of ILGWU.
Surviving are four sons, Oscar David "Mack" McGlocklin and Lecil Ray "Muscles" McGlocklin, both of Bristol Tennessee, Charles G. "Gus" McGlocklin of Emory, Va., and Lem Alden "Red" McGlocklin of Chilhowie; six sisters, Lena Bell Hess, Jesse Adams and Lola Margaret Dixon, all of Chilhowie, Florence Bittkin of Leotto, Ind., Floreine Tuell of Blountville and Sarah E. Hess of Marion; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in Farris Funeral Service.

Jessie Faye Milwood

Jessie Faye Millwood, 78, a former resident of 205 Denton Valley Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and a former substitute teacher in the Sullivan County School System. She was a member of South Chapel Baptist Church and the widow of Silas Millwood.
Surviving are a son, Dean Millwood of Bristol Tennessee; a sister, Margaret Smith of Bristol Tennessee; two grandchildren, Mark Millwood of Bristol Tennessee and Rhonda Cabell of Kingsport; a great-grandson, Derek Cabell of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Mahlon Wyatt and Curtis King will officiate. Burial will be in Rhudy's Cemetery.
Among survivors is a daughter-in-law, Dolores Millwood of Bristol Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Smith, Rick Hall, Jerry Shaver, Dexter Ramey, Tim Cabell and Billy Stevens.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home or any other time at 305 Mia Drive, Bristol, Tenn.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Roy Patton

Funeral services for Roy Patton will be conducted Monday at noon at the graveside in National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tenn., with military honors by VFW Patton Crosswhite Post 6975.
Mr. Patton, 65, of 214 Stafford St., Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at his home.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in Weaver Funeral Home.

Ruth S. Potter

MARION -- Ruth S. Potter, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at her home.
She was the widow of Dr. Richard C. Potter.
She was born in the St. Clairs community of Smyth County, a daughter of the late James and Bertha Blevins Starling, and was employed with Harwood and Southwestern State Hospital. She was also a manger with Felix's Department Store in Marion.
Surviving are three sisters, Iva S. Bradley, Lillian S. Bush and Barbara S. Hutton, all of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Bradley's Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Sage will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in Bradley's Funeral Home.

Donald E. Profitt

NORTON -- Donald E. Profitt, 73, of the Riverview Community, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at his home.
He was a former resident of Norton and recently lived in Coeburn. He was a retired salesman from Witt Motor Co. in Norton with 21 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Dorothy M. Profitt; four daughters, Lana Culbertson of Greenville, S.C., Linda Fulks of Norton, Donna Roberts of Wise and Debbie Elliott of Coeburn; three brothers, Kenneth Proffit of Norton and Douglas Profitt and John Profitt, both of Kingsport; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 8 p.m. in Hagy Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jim Smith will officiate. Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
Among survivors are a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday prior to services in Hagy Funeral Home.

Noah Reynolds

VANSANT -- Funeral services for Noah "Node" Reynolds will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home in Grundy. The Revs. Ronnie Sliger, James Chapman and Eddie Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands.
Mr. Reynolds, 71, of the Leemaster section, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands.
Pallbearers will be Duke Ratliff, Brent Ratliff, Larry McClanahan, Derek Reynolds, Erick McClanahan, Heath McClanahan, Kenney Reynolds Jr., Chris Reynolds, Ray Clevinger and Chad Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Virgil Hess, Ronnie Sliger, Hurley Meadows, Mack Ratliff, James Paul Ratliff, Raymond Clevinger, Wallace Caperton and Verner Lester. Flowergirls will be Angie Reynolds and Mandy Reynolds.
Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Clint A. Slagle

BLOUNTVILLE -- Clint A. Slagle died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Greystone Health Care Center in Blountville.
He was born in Washington County, Va., and was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. He was a retired carpenter.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Sunrise Cemetery in Bluff City by Akard Funeral Home of Bristol, Tenn. The Rev. Vernon Trivett will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation in Akard Funeral Home.

Brandon Thomas Steffey

Brandon Thomas Steffey, 11, of 1428 East State St. Extension, Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Weaver Funeral Home.
