Lindsay Angus Dunivan

Lindsay Angus Dunivan, 85, of Rustburg, passed away, Wed., Feb. 15, 2006 at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Drinkard Dunivan.

Born May 10, 1920 in Fluvanna Co., he was the son of the late Angus Andrew Dunivan and the late Ella Catlett Dunivan. Mr. Dunivan was a member of Jordan Baptist Church and served in WWII with the US Army. He was a retired self-employed mechanic.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta D. Crouch.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Cynthia Gail Dunivan and fiancé Willy W. Hardy and Sylvia P. Daniel all of Rustburg; five grandchildren: Pamela D. Trent and husband Jack, Karen D. Doyle and husband Ricky, Chuck Daniel and wife Pam, Troy A. Jones and Michael Lee Hoskins; and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Sat., Feb. 18, 2006 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Dr. Melvin H. Campbell. Interment, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 16, will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Family visitation will be today from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the family residence.

Bertie Burks Johnson

Bertie Burks Johnson, 87, of Lynchburg, died Monday April 7, 2003 in Medical Care Center. She was the widow of Olney Morrell Johnson.

Born June 11, 1915, in Amherst County, she was a daughter of the late Bernard Loving Burks and Etta Gilliam Burks.In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Earl and Horance Burks, and four sisters, Annie May Burks, Mary Wright, Ruby Martin and Pearl Dooley.

Mrs. Johnson retired after 34 years as a seamstress with Blue Buckle Overall Company, and was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Amherst. She is survived by a son, Wayne M. Johnson and his wife Pat of Lynchburg; two daughters, Cynthia Ann Johnson of Lynchburg and Juanita Carol Maddox and her husband Brian of Madison Heights; a sister, Ruth Sowell of Rustburg; nine grandchildren, Stacy, Derrick, Benjamin, and Samuel Maddox, Terry Clegg and her husband Harry, Kelly Wrenn, Della Jarrett, Wayne Johnson, Jr., and Sandra Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Charles Wayne Preston and Rosco Mitchell; and a great-great-granddaughter, India Alece Preston.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday April 11, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by the Rev. David Smeltz. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. today (thurs) at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at her son Wayne's home, 607 Leesville Road.

Raymond William Tyree, Sr.

Raymond William Tyree, Sr., 84 of Madison Heights, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at his residence. He was the husband of Inez Proffitt Tyree.

Born March 28, 1920 in Amherst County, he was a son of the late Thomas Edward Tyree and Janie Elizabeth Tyree Tyree. Mr. Tyree was a United States Army Veteran having served in WW II and was retired from F.L. Showalter where he worked as a carpenter and was also a member of Eternal Baptist Church.

Mr. Tyree was preceded in death by two sisters; Ruby T. Yelenski and Lolly Tyree, three brothers; Voil Tyree, Lester Herbert Tyree and Melvin O. Tyree.

Also surviving are seven children; Raymond W. Tyree, Jr. of Amherst, Judy T. Johnson of Rustburg, Tommy Tyree and wife Patricia of Madison Heights, Brenda T. Campbell and husband Harold of Appomattox, Debbie T. Chambless, Vickie T. King and Sharon T. Wheeler and husband Danny all of Madison Heights, twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2004 at the Eternal Baptist Church, by the Reverend Dennis Wade. .

The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the Church.

Alice Icenhour Greene

Alice Icenhour Greene, 85, of Lynchburg, died Monday December 27, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the widow of Albert Charlie Greene.

Born December 18, 1919 in Zionsville, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late William and Nancy Pennel Icenhour; also an infant son, Jonas Albert Greene preceded her in death.

Mrs. Greene was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Lynchburg, and was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Marvin B. Greene and his wife Vivian of Evington, Lester F. Greene and his wife Sandra and Randy R. Greene and his wife Lisa of Lynchburg, Lloyd A. Greene of Rustburg, Rosa G. Hall and her husband Roger of Lynchburg, Linda G. Baldwin of Madison Heights, Frieda G. Reynolds and her husband Shawn, of Lynchburg, Beulah P. Abbott of Madison Heights, and Judy G. Millner of Rustburg; four sisters, Celia, Lizzie, Mary and Nealy all of North Carolina; 23 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2004 at Salem United Methodist Church, Evington, with the Rev. Charles Schooler and the Rev. Marvin Suitt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at her son Randy's home, 711 Middle Street, Lynchburg.

Roxanne Richards Soward

Roxanne Richards Soward, 45, of Lynchburg, went home to be with the Lord, Tues., Feb. 14, 2006 at her residence. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Jim L. Soward.

Born June 5, 1960 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Stanford Richards of Lynchburg and the late Loretta Crouch Richards. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and was employed at Liberty University for over 25 years.

In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by two children: Brittany Soward and Brock Soward both of Lynchburg; three brothers: Dennis Richards of Richmond, Mike Richards of Lynchburg and Eric Richards and wife Lisa of Lynchburg; two life long special friends: Carole Gallier and Jeanne Burch.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 at the Pate Chapel at Thomas Road Baptist Church by Dr. Jerry Falwell.

Family visitation will be today from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, Lynchburg Unit Office, 2316 Atherholt Road, Suite 108, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

Edith Godsey Garner

Edith Godsey Garner, 81, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday April 8, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

She was the widow of William Anderson Garner. Born September 16, 1921, in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Edward William Godsey and Rosa Farris Godsey.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.

Mrs. Garner retired from Guggenheimer Hospital and was a devoted member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. She is survived by a step-daughter, Betty A. Kihlstrom of PA.; two sisters, Helen Hendricks of PA. and Evelyn Hancock of FL., numerous nieces, nephews; and her special friend "Hobo".

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday April 11, 2003 in Spring Hill cemetery, by the Rev. James D. Newman.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today (thurs) at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to West Lynchburg Baptist Church, Memorial & Eldon Streets, Lynchburg, Va 24502.

Robbie Bowling

Robbie Bowling, 64 of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2004.

Born January 12, 1940 in Nelson County, she was a daughter of the late Bur Bowling and Mary Johnson Bowling Cheatwood and was also preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Cheatwood.

Survivors include a sister, Helen Callahan and husband E. Thomas of Lynchburg, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11: a.m. Friday October 22, 2004, at Springhill cemetery by the Rev. Jack Brooks and the Rev. Lonnie Meadows assisting.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Helen Callahan, 1686 Callaham St. in Lynchburg.

Robert Dewey Perry, Sr.

Robert Dewey Perry, Sr., 67, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, February 13, 2006 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Gloria Rhodes Perry.

Born September 27, 1938 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Bruce Perry, Sr. and the late Nellie Brown Perry. He was retired from Lynchburg Foundry with thirty-five years of service and was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Perry is survived by one son, Robert D. Perry, Jr.; one daughter, Lisa D. Williams; two sisters, Katherine Wilmer and Patricia Page; one brother, Bruce Perry, Jr. and four grandchildren, Candice and Destinie Perry and Amanda and Ryan Williams.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2006 at Whitten Park Ave. Chapel by the Rev. David Heerspink. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Following the interment, a reception will be held at the home of Katherine Wilmer in Monroe.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2006 at the funeral home.

Ruby Glenn Roach Dodson

Ruby Glenn Roach Dodson, 87, of 2131 Camp Hydaway Road, Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, April 05, 2003 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Robert Mays Dodson, Sr., founder of Dodson Exterminating Company.

Born February 18, 1916 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late James Judson Roach, Sr. and Eleanor Wright Roach.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, one sister, and two brothers.

Mrs. Dodson is survived by two sons, Robert M. Dodson, Jr. and his wife, Ruth and John S. Dodson and his wife, Rhonda, both of Lynchburg; one daughter, Donna Dodson Pallotti and her husband, Joe of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, James J. Roach, Jr. of Gladys and the Rev. Lyle Roach of Lynchburg and one sister, Eloise R. Holland of Richmond.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel by Dr. Melvin Campbell, the Rev. Henry Dodson and the Rev. Lyle Roach. Interment will follow in the Dodson Family cemetery, Camp Hydaway Road.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

The family wishes to thank the Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their care and support during this time.

Leroy Willys Ballard, Sr.

Leroy Willys Ballard, Sr., 59, of Lynchburg, died Saturday August 2, 2003, following a short illness. He was the husband of Pamela T. Ballard.

Born March 26, 1944, in Gladys, VA., he was a son of the late Charles Tauton Ballard and Frances Ballard Moxley.

Mr. Ballard owned and operated Ballard Backhoe Service.

In addition to his wife Pam, he is survived by his children; Jennifer Marie Ballard and Leroy Willys Ballard, Jr. both of Lynchburg; a brother; Robert Kenneth Ballard of Evington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, with Pastor Tammy Clark officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service and at other times at the residence.

Vicki June Snyder

Vicki June Snyder, 53, of 2022 Georgia Ave., Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2004 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

Born January 9, 1951 in Welch, WV, Vicki was the loving daughter of Hazel Tiller Snyder and the late Arthur Wesley Snyder, Jr. Vicki attended Fairview Christian Church and was administrative assistant and 35 year employee of Dodson Exterminators Co.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by: her sister, Janet Chenoweth and husband Dennis of Wayne City, IL; two nephews: Brian Chenoweth of Chesapeake and Kevin Chenoweth of Manassas; as well as many loving and close family members and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rice and Dr. McNeil for being so caring during Vicki’s illness, and also the staff of Virginia Baptist Hospital Mundy building.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a. m., Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Rev. D. Jack Hamilton. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the family home, 2022 Georgia Ave., Lynchburg.

Those wishing to make a memorial contribution, please consider St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Caring Committee of Fairview Christian Church.
