Latisha L. Bolden
Latisha Latori Bolden, 24, of Orange, died Sunday, March 23, 2003 in Fredericksburg.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Marion Wilkerson, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Orange. Interment will be in Westview cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, March 28 at the funeral home.
She is survived by her mother, Patsy Lee Bolden of Orange; her father, Michael Eugene Morton of Louisa; a daughter, Kwashae Bolden of Orange; her maternal grandparents, Norman and Barbara Bolden of Orange; her paternal grandparents, Edward Hill of Washington D.C., Mamie Bright of Woodberry Forest, and Maxine Morton of Stanardsville; and a number of uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
Miss Bolden was born December 27, 1978 in Albemarle County.

Hazel H. Perkins
Hazel H. Perkins, of Louisa, died Saturday, March 22, 2003. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 at Gilboa Christian Church cemetery.
She is survived by five sisters, Sally W. Perkins, Estelle Perkins Sprouse, Pearl Perkins Ramey, Eloisa Perkins Gallando and Anne Perkins Harris; four brothers, Marion L. Perkins, Lynwood R. Perkins, James A. Perkins and William E. Perkins; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, handled the arrangements.

Luetta K. Speirs
Luetta K. Speirs, 92, of Louisa, formerly of White Stone, died Saturday, March 15, 2003.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 19 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Interment was in Clifton Ridge cemetery, Kilmarnock.
She is survived by a daughter, Elaine K. Loving and her husband, Preston L., of Louisa; a granddaughter, Holly E. McCaffity and her husband, Brian, of Colonial Heights; a grandson, W. Andrew Scott of Louisa; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Speirs was born December 29, 1910, the daughter of the late Joseph and Martha Shelton. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Raleigh Ketner and John Speirs; and six brothers and sisters.
She was a member of Asbury Methodist Church, White Stone.

Rev. Dr. Jeanne C. Biggar
The Rev. Dr. Jeanne Charlotte Baldwin Craig Biggar, 79, died at the Louisa Healthcare Center Thursday, May 8, 2003.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28 at the Church of our Savior, Charlottes-ville.
She is survived by her son, Lee and his wife, Pat; a granddaughter, Allison, all of Topsail Beach, North Carolina; and a stepsister, Dorothy Summers of Tucson, Arizona.
Dr. Biggar was born January 13, 1924 in South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald James Biggar; and a son, Jimmy.
She attended Huron College before going to work for the Weather Service in Billings, Montana during World War II. She completed her undergraduate work at Brookings College, Brookings, South Dakota.
Following the death of her husband, she attended the University of North Carolina and earned a masters and Ph.D. with a major in sociology. She joined the faculty of the University of Virginia in 1969, and was one of the first tenure track women faculty members. She retired as an associate professor in 1986.
Dr. Biggar was a noted and published gerontologist and demographer with a special interest in the migration of the elderly. While on the faculty of UVA, she founded what is now the Women’s Study Center.
She was one of the founding board members of the Jefferson Area Board for Aging. At the age of 60, she was ordained in the Episcopal Church and began a ministry with the Region 15 Ministry with the Aging. She chaired the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia’s Committee on Aging for several years, and was one of the founders of the Annual Shrine Mont Fall Camp.
In 1995, Dr. Biggar received the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award from the Virginia Association on Aging. She served as priest at Trinity Church and the Church of Our Savior, Charlottesville and Good Shepherd of the Hills in Boonesville until 1996 when she retired.
Following her retirement, Dr. Biggar worshipped at Peace in the Valley in Nellysford. On the 15th anniversary of her ordination in 2002, she received a citation from the Senate of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Dr. Biggar was co-director of Sophia House Retreat and Conference Center in Louisa until her retirement in 1999. She designed the Hesed Haven Conference Building so that it would be accessible for everyone. As a result of an automobile accident, she made use of that accessibility. She was also involved in aging issues in Louisa County and was a member and chair of the Louisa County Commission on Aging.

Randolph D. Brooks
Randolph D. Brooks, 92, of Spotsylvania, died Tuesday, May 27 2003 at his residence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Don Purnell, Pastor Greg Akers, the Rev. E. T. Bourne and the Rev. George Thorne, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 30 at Covenant Funeral Service Chapel, Fredericksburg. Interment will be in the Brooks family cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Lindsay Carter, Michael L. Brooks Sr., Harry J. Hairfield Jr., Bobby Carter Jr., Mark Carter, Jeffrey Carter, Justin M. Skidmore and Brandon T. Smith.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 at the funeral home.
He is survived by four daughters, Delores M. Hairfield of Fort Washington, Maryland, Ella L. Johnson, Susan E. Smith and Sandra K. Pelter, all of Spotsylvania; a sister, Sylvia Boast of Indiana; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Corene B. Brooks, who died January 11, 2003. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Kirby R. and Jerry W. Brooks and a daughter, Anna R. Carter.
He was a member of Bethel Christian Church. As a teenager, he began working in a sawmill and later worked as a miner. During the Depression, he worked at the CCC Camp and afterwards worked for the Civil Service in Quantico. He retired from FMC after 25 years. He was a lifelong farmer.

Ronald D. Campbell
Ronald D. Campbell, 47, of Bumpass, died Sunday, May 25, 2003.
Memorial services, conducted by the Rev. J. Steve Huffman, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Apple Grove. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George.
He is survied by his parents, Melvin P. and Ruth Cliborne Campbell of Bumpass; a brother, Gerald W. Campbell of Mineral; a sister, Connie F. Phillips; and a niece, Virginia Marie Phillips, both of Bumpass.
Mr. Campbell was born December 12, 1955 in Dinwiddie.
He was a forklift operator.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Anna Rescue Squad, 300 Bumpass Road, Bumpass, VA 23024.

Travis E. Daniel Sr.
Travis Elmo Daniel Sr., 88, of Louisa, died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at his residence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Michael Kubat and the Rev. Joe Carson, were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28 at the Woodward Funeral Home Chapel, Louisa. Interment was in Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Carter Daniel; three sons, Travis Elmo Daniel Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Richmond, James Edward Daniel and his wife, Lena of Leake and Lawrence Randolph Daniel and his wife, Maggie, of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren, Brandon, Travis and Tyler; a great-grandson, Christopher; and a sister, Thelma Taylor of Mineral.
Mr. Daniel was the son of the late Peter M. and Sarah Hiter Daniel.
He was a lifelong resident of Louisa and a World War II Army veteran. He retired from Woodward Motors and then served 19 years as the superintendent of the town of Louisa.
He was a member of Louisa United Methodist Church and a life member of Louisa Fire Department.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont or the Louisa Fire Department.

Elaine W. Jones
Elaine Wilhelm Jones, 41, of Bumpass, died Sunday, May 25, 2003.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Jones, her mother and father, all of Bumpass; and three brothers.

Eva A. M. Lewis
Eva Amanda Moody Lewis, 91, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a native of Louisa, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Clifford H. Cutter Sr., were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 19 at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Philadelphia. Interment was in North-wood cemetery, Philadelphia.
She is survived by a sister, Rhoda Moody English; her niece and caregiver, Rhoda Theresa English; additional nieces and nephews, Marjorie Scott Grice, Helen Scott Johnson, Rosa Moody, Mitchell, Ernestine M. Scott, Joseph R. Moody Jr., Estelle Moody, Tinsley, Martha Ann Thompson and Iris Eunice Thompson; and a number of great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Mrs. Lewis was born August 25, 1911 in Louisa, the daughter of the late Amanda Taylor and Richard T. Moody. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lewis.
She was educated at the Plum Tree School, Louisa. Upon finishing grade school, she went to Philadelphia to live with two older sisters, where she finished her education at Simon Gratz High School.
She graduated from Apex Beauty School but did not pursue that profession. She worked for the Defense Department until her retirement.
She was baptized at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, Mineral. Her late grandfather, Moses T. Moody, was one of the founders of Laurel Hill during slavery.
In the fifties, Mrs. Lewis became affiliated with the National Temple Baptist Church and in 1953 with the Cornerstone Baptist Church. She was treasuer of the Victory Club for many years.
