TAYLOR
Clay C. Taylor Sr., 78, of Colonial Heights, died Friday, March 29, 2002 at his residence. Born in Virginia, he was the son of the late William Tilton and Emma Florence Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a retired carpenter. He served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II in the military Police Division. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Kent Taylor; and a son, Clay C. Taylor Jr. He is survived by two devoted daughters, Patsy Key and husband, Robert of Colonial Heights, and Betty T. Foldesi and husband, David of Richmond; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Taylor Redmond; a sister, Elma T. Kent of Danville; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, with the Rev. Carl Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers are welcomed or contributions may be made to the Hospice of Central Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23226.

THOMPSON
Phillip W. Thompson of Boydton died March 29, 2002. Survived by his son, James A. Thompson of Blackstone; his daughter, Nellie M. Pacheco of Raytown, Missouri; his brother, John Randolph Thompson Jr. of Boydton; and four sisters, Mary Dunn of Phyllis, Va., Annie Bell Evans of Boydton, Elva Mathews of South Hill, and Lucille Barker of Richmond; and one grandson, Michael Pacheco. Graveside services Tuesday, 2 p.m. in Boydton Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Boydton, Va. Visitation Monday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home. Acie C. Via Sr., 80, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 28, 2002. He is survived by his daughters, Susan V. Hart of Colonial Heights and Linda Via Royster of Midlothian; son, Acie C. Via Jr. and wife, LaJuana of Chester; sisters, Norma Williams of Richmond and Maria Lieberman-Via of Arizona; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Via was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002 at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Funeral services for Hershal Warren Bickley of Kents Store will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Sheridan Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa. BIGGER
William L. Bigger Jr. of 507 Brookside Blvd. died December 26, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, William L. Bigger Sr. Surviving are his wife, Nora L. Bigger; two sons, William L. III and Louis R. Bigger; mother, Phyllis H. Bigger; one sister, Dr. Linda Bigger Pincham; eight aunts, one devoted, Edith B. Epps; three uncles; one great-aunt; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, one devoted, Frank Tolliver. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where the family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 6 p.m. After 11 a.m. Monday remains will rest in Faith Landmark Ministries, 8491 Chamberlayne Rd., where funeral services will be held 12 noon. BOWERS
Mrs. Kathleen "Polly" Bowers, 74, of Hopewell, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2001. She was the widow of Oscar Bowers and is survived by her brother, Andrew Saintsing Jr.; her brother-in-law, Ernest L. Clements and several nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Interment will be private.

BUTLER
Veta S. Butler, 63, of Mechanicsville, widow of William L. Butler, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 28, 2001. She is survived by three children, Linda Tuck Rutledge of Red Oak, Va., Chip Tuck and his wife, Dianne of Mechanicsville and Karen Tuck Lawson and her husband, Joe of Mechanicsville; one stepson, Billy Butler and his wife, Mary Beth; two brothers, Garland Smith and his wife, Joyce and Larry Smith and his wife, Kathy; seven grandchildren, Shannon, David Wayne, Brandon and Brandy Marie Rutledge, Angie and Brian Lawson and Elizabeth Tuck. Mrs. Butler retired from Philip Morris and attended Broadus Memorial Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends Sunday, December 30, 2001 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and where services will be held 1 p.m. Monday. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

CARLI
Mrs. Sylvia Durrette Carli died December 26, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Allen D. Carli; daughter, Mrs. Zachary (Susan) Salmon; two sons, Allen David Jr. and William D. Carli and wife, Sandra; grandchildren, Morgan and Elizabeth Salmon and William and John Carli; a number of nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bliley Funeral Home, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Mass at St. Benedict's Catholic Church on Saturday at 1 p.m. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

CRAIGHEAD
James Bruce Craighead Sr., 73, of Goochland, Va., died Monday, December 24, 2001. He was born in Bedford, Va. on February 5, 1928. He was the son of the late Bruce and Alma Craighead of Bedford, Va. He is survived by his loving wife, Elnora V. Craighead "Puddin"; five children, Ruby Murrell, Wanda McLaughlin, Samuel Jackson all of Richmond, Gaynell Robinson and James Craighead Jr. of Goochland; two sons-in-law, David McLaughlin and Harry Robinson; one daughter-in-law, Abidemi Craighead; one granddaughter, Monica who preceded him in death; eight grandchildren, JaVonna, David II, Adrian, Marcus, Fatimah, Talia, Jacqueline and Jasmine. He is also survived by three devoted sisters, Mary Parker, Betty Holland and Ellen Wills and one devoted sister-in-law, Cora Smith, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held Sunday, December 30, 2001 at 3 p.m. at Second Union Baptist Church. Rev. D. L. Trent, pastor, officiating. Interment church cemetery. Robert Mealy Funeral Home, Goochland in charge of arrangements. Family and friends kindly assembly 2:30 p.m. at the church.

EAHEART
Robert Henry Eaheart Sr., age 69, died Thursday, December 27, 2001. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict and served aboard the U.S.S. Loeser. Mr. Eaheart retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Survivors include two sons, Robert H. Eaheart Jr. and his wife, Teresa B. and Richard L. Eaheart and his wife, Laura R.; seven grandchildren, Chris, Erin, Rachel, Jason, Leah, Meredith and Adrienne; three sisters, Virginia Dudley, Mary Blanchard and Ernestine Melton; two brothers, Benjamin Eaheart and Joseph Eaheart Jr. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2001 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 1-800-227-2345. Arrangements are being handled by the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St.

FANIS
Kelli O. Fanis, 32, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2001. She was a loving mother, wife and daughter who touched so many lives with her caring way and joyous smile. She is survived by her husband, Chris J. Fanis; her son, Jonathan Chase Fanis; her father, Carl Orange; her mother, Dolores Orange, both of Mechanicsville; her grandmothers, Nola M. Lilly and Louise D. Riley, both of Richmond; her brother, Chris M. Orange and his wife, Cindy of Mechanicsville; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Chrissy Fanis of Richmond; sister-in-law, Markella A. Fanis, of Virginia Beach. Kelli was a member of St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. She was a graduate of Radford University and an avid runner and triathlete. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday. HARRIS
Mary Ardell Harris, 61, departed this life Tuesday, December 25, 2001. She is survived by her children, Ernest, George, Mark and Laura; and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2001 at the Union Hope Baptist Church. Interment at the Second Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery, Little Plymouth. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the J.K. Redmond Funeral Home, Shacklefords.

HINTZ
Robert L. Hintz, 71, of Richmond, Va., passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2001. The retired Chairman and CEO of Sea-Land Corporation and Executive Vice President at CSX Corporation worked diligently in support of many charitable organizations in Richmond. He served as Chairman of the Board of St. Joseph's Villa, was Chairman of the Hospital Hospitality House, and was a long-term member of the Christian Children's Fund Board of Directors. Born in Chicago, Ill., he served his country in the Korean War as a staff sergeant in the Air Force and worked his way through night school to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Northwestern University, going on to earn his MBA in 1964. He started at the C&O/B&O Railroad as an auditor in 1963, rising to become the youngest Vice President at Chessie System Railroads at the age of 39. Later, he served on the Board of Directors of several companies including Reynolds Metals, Chesapeake Corporation, Scott & Stringfellow, Robertshaw and Arch Coal, Inc. The Robert L. Hintz Professorship in Accounting was established at Virginia Commonwealth University in his honor. He was an active member of the Commonwealth Club and Country Club of Virginia and lived by the motto, "there is no limit to what you can accomplish if you don't care who gets the credit." Hintz is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Dolly; four children, Cary Hintz, Leslie Flanary and her husband, James Flanary, David Hintz Timberline and his wife, Holly Gems Timberline and Erin Garrahan Hall and her husband, Dan Hall; 10 grandchildren, Kiera Hintz, Lauren and Daniel Flanary, Sage, Bryce, and Robert Cooper Timberline, Ryan Garrahan, and Jennifer, Bryant, and Molly Hall. The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 28, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road. Richmond. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Benedict Church, 300 N. Sheppard Ave. at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 29. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hospital Hospitality House, P.O. Box 10090, Richmond, Va. 23240, or St. Joseph's Villa, 8000 Brook Road, Richmond, Va. 23227.

INGE
John E. "Johnny" Inge, 54, of Chesterfield, devoted husband, father and grandfather, went to be with his Lord Friday, December 28, 2001. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Marie Bell. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jean W. Inge; daughters, Sherry L. Norris, Deborah I. Streets and Pamela D. Edwards; sons, Jesse C. and Richard B. Bell, all of Chesterfield; and nine grandchildren. Mr. Inge was a sheet metal worker with Colonial Mechanical, serving for 18 years. Family will receive friends at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10) from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

JOHNSON
Departed this life December 28, 2001, Mr. Walter Johnson of 2213 Maplewood Ave. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving the family.

Mrs. Edith S. Keel of Richmond departed this life Thursday, December 27, 2001. Remains rest at Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

LOWE
Garnett T. Lowe, 74, of Richmond, died December 27, 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elma Lowe. Survivors include his daughter, Kimberley Lowe; one brother, Ralph Lowe; one sister, Margaret Tokuda; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Lowe was a retired employee of E.I. duPont and was a U.S. Army veteran with service during the Korean War. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Maury Cemetery.

MEADOWS
Departed this life December 28, 2001, Mr. Alfred L. Meadows Sr., formerly of 1113 North 20th Street. Remains rest at the Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th Street. Funeral notice later.
