DUNN
Margaret M. Dunn, 74, of Varina, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard R. Dunn. She will be greatly missed by her son, Randy Dunn; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Dunn; two granddaughters, Mandi and Nikki Dunn; one sister, Isabella Maitland; other family members and friends; and her faithful friend "Pretty". Mrs. Dunn was a retired employee of American Filtronia Company. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and where services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation.

ELMORE
Julia Catherine Elmore, 91, preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Garland W. Elmore, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2001. Born September 15, 1909, in Remo, Va., she spent many years in Tappahannock before settling in Richmond. Mrs. Elmore was also preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Maude Sisson, Virginia Lampkin and Arthur Thorne. She is survived by her son, Garland W. Elmore Jr. of Richmond; two grandchildren, Catherine E. Wilson and her husband, George W. of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Robert W. Elmore and his wife, Tammy of Suffolk; and seven great-grandchildren, Susanne E. Elmore, Melissa K. Elmore, George Warren Wilson IV, Jeremy T. Elmore, Garland W. Wilson, Grant W. Wilson and Garrett W. Wilson. Mrs. Elmore was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She and her husband owned and operated Elmore Grocery for many years before she retired with Ukrop's. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and where a service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday with interment to follow in Westhampton Memorial Park.

EVANS
Mrs. Carrie Payne Evans of 1705 Watts Lane, departed this life April 4, 2001. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving her family.

FENNER
Mrs. Marie Jones Fenner, of 9412 Norfolk St., Glen Allen, entered eternal rest April 3, 2001. She is survived by two sons, Junius and Thomas Jones; one daughter-in-law, Mary Jones; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary A. Jenkins and Helen J. Dabney and her husband, Gus; four nephews, one devoted aunt, Bertha Coy; other relatives and devoted friends, among them, John G. Dankas Sr. and family. Remains rest at the F.E. Dabney Funeral Home, Henry St., Ashland, where funeral services will be held Saturday, 1:30 p.m. Rev. Robert Burruss officiating. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens. Please assemble at the funeral home Saturday, 1:15 p.m. Please omit refreshments.

GIOVENCO
Mary Antonia Giovenco (nee Capizzi), 89, of Richmond, formerly of Hoboken, N.J., died Wednesday, April 4, 2001. She was the beloved mother of Robert Giovenco; mother-in-law of Antoinette Giovenco, and beloved Nanni of Maria and Carmen; and devoted friend of Joseph Zotto of New Jersey. Her remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 1 p.m. Friday (today) at St. Bridget's Catholic Church. Interment 11 a.m. Tuesday, Holy Cross Cemetery, N. Arlington, N.J. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Mercy Home for Boys and Girls c/o Fr. Jim Close, 1140 Jackson Blvd., Chicago, Ill. 60607.

HARDY
Deaconess Queen Jefferson Hardy of Richmond died Tuesday, April 3, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Samuel L. Hardy Sr. She will be remembered by many whose lives she touched, but especially by her three sons, James Jefferson Sr., Deacon Samuel L. and Erwin L. Hardy; three daughters, Ms. Bernice Montague, Mrs. Shirley H. Burno and Rev. Delores Williams; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, five brothers, two sisters, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, seven sisters-in-law; devoted friends, Deaconesses Ercelle Dortch, Mary Henderson, Margaret Smith and Deacon Myrtle Spurlock. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where the family will receive friends Friday (today), 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 12:30 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, 1813 Everett St., Rev. Robert C. Davis, pastor, officiating. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of the Union Baptist Church, 1813 Everett St., Richmond, Va. 23224.

Carolyn H. Hash, of South Hill, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001. Survived by her husband, Joe Hash; her son, Jody Hash of Blackridge; her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Vince Powell of Brodnax; three grandchildren, Whitney and Lindsey Powell and Morgan Hash; her sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Butch Raynor of Hillsborough, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Bernice Riley of Rougemont, N.C.; and a brother, Max Riley of Roxboro, N.C. Graveside funeral services Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery in Hillsborough, N.C. Visitation Friday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home. HAWK
Samuel Binford "Bin" Hawk, 77, of Maidens, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 1, 2001. He is survived by four sisters, Edith Whiteside of Chesterfield, Marguriette Parrish of Bumpass, Mary Pinney of Goochland, Jean Harris of Maidens; four brothers, Edward and Elmer Hawk of Goochland, Robert Gay Hawk of Arizona, Earl Hawk of Florida; and a devoted brother-in-law, Bobby Harris of Maidens. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive him. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Elpis Christian Church, Maidens, Va. HUBBARD
Grace P. Hubbard, 85, of Richmond, formerly of Farmville, widow of F. Curtis Hubbard, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Richmond. Born December 7, 1915, in Roanoke, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Alan and Bertha Coleman Payne. She is survived by a daughter, Martha H. Schleigh and husband, Joe of Richmond; two sons, William Curtis Hubbard of Atlanta, Ga., and F. Alan Hubbard and wife, Holly of Wilmington, N.C.; three sisters, Rae Campbell, West Palm Beach, Fla., Laura Parker, West Palm Beach, Fla., Frances Roesell, Winston-Salem, N.C.; a brother-in-law, W. Henry Hubbard of Virginia Beach, Va.; also seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at the Westview Cemetery in Farmville. Rev. Peter Moon will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Farmville United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be given to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements by the Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home.

George Lewis Johnson Sr., formerly of 2406 Barton Ave., died April 1, 2001, in Columbia, Md. Surviving are his wife, Wilhelmina B. Johnson; one son, George Lewis Johnson Jr.; a granddaughter, Odette F. Johnson; a daughter-in-law, Brenda L. Johnson, all of Baltimore, Md.; niece, Yvonne Jones; nephew, Frank Braxton Jr.; brother-in-law, Frank Braxton Sr. of Washington, D.C.; other relatives and friends. Kenneth H. Johnson of Richmond departed this life Tuesday, April 3, 2001. He was a retired employee of Bellwood. He is survived by four sisters, Mandel E. Bailey, Carolene Johnson, Vera Lewis and Ethel Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 2611 Bells Rd., Rev. Terry Johnson, pastor, officiating. After 1:30 p.m. Saturday, remains will rest in the above named church until hour of service. Interment in Maury Cemetery. Jacqueline Alice Jones, a former IRS employee, departed this life April 3, 2001. She is survived by her sisters, Ms. Janice Jones and Patricia Daniels of Richmond; devoted grandmother, Mrs. Martha Naper; three nephews, Everett and Bluford Jones and Jonathan Daniels; a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Her remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment private.

KELLEY
Joseph (Bo) Kelley Jr. of 308 W. 28th St., departed this life Saturday, March 31, 2001. Surviving are his wife, Carrie Kelley; son, Joseph Kelley III; daughters, Germaine, Dawn, Tonia, Cecilia, Pearl, Audrey, Joanne and Treina; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, William Kelley of New York; two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, a host of friends and acquaintances. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 11 a.m. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the funeral home Saturday, 10:30 a.m.

KNAPP
Helga G. Knapp, 51, of Chesterfield, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Robert R. Knapp; five children, Jacqueline Bell, Robin Knapp, David Knapp, Sandra Hall and Martina Smith; her mother, Franziska Goettel; her brother, Bernd Goettel; and 11 grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and where services will be held 7 p.m. Friday. Interment will take place 2 p.m. Saturday at Forsyth Memorial Park, Winston-Salem, N.C.

LOFTIS
Debra Watkins Loftis, age 43, of Midlothian, Va., died Wednesday, April 4, 2001. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Midlothian, Va., the American Dietetic Association, the Richmond Dietetic Association, and the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. Survivors include husband, Dennis M. Loftis; son, Brian K. Loftis; brother, Jerry D. Watkins and his wife, Merle, Chesterfield, Va.; sister, Marilyn W. Benson and her husband, James, Richmond, Va.; nieces, Kristin G. Watkins, Portland, Ore., Cynthia D. Benson, St. Louis, Mo., and Jennifer B. Busick, Herndon, Va. Mrs. Loftis was predeceased by her parents, Jerry G. and Grace K. Watkins. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, Va., where a funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Memorial Cemetery in Amelia, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Music Ministry (379-1655), Hawthorne Cancer Resource Center (Johnston-Willis Hospital, 330-2136), or Bon Secours Hospice (287-7700).

LOWE
Betty Fahr Lowe, 80, of Locust Hill, a retired St. Catherine's teacher, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001. She was the widow of Frederick W. Lowe and was born in Richmond. She graduated from Longwood College and earned two master's degrees in education from Virginia Commonwealth University. Mrs. Lowe was a deeply loved and respected teacher in the Lower School of St. Catherine's for 23 years where she retired in 1985. She leaves a son, Frederick Wise Lowe and his wife, Martha J. Lowe of Urbanna; a daughter, Martha Lowe Goodale and her husband, John B. Goodale of Groton, Mass.; and five granddaughters, Brindley, Katie, Sarah, Emily and Margaret. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Christ Church, Middlesex County. Private graveside services will be held Monday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond. Memorial gifts may be made to Christ Church Parish, Parish House Fund or St. Catherine's School, Richmond.
