HAGY
Ruth B. Hagy, age 83, of Virginia Beach, Va., died November 8, 2001 at a local nursing home. Mrs. Hagy was predeceased by her husband of over 53 years, Clay W. Hagy and her son, James T. Hagy, and had been secretary at Maury Elementary School, Fredericksburg City Public Schools. Mrs. Hagy was a member of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Linda H. Pope and her husband, Robert; grandchildren, Sarah and Aaron Pope, all of Virginia Beach, and Christopher Hagy of Richmond, Va.; sister, Evelyn Tate; and brother, M.T. Brown Jr., both of Lexington, N.C.; and a daughter-in-law, Martha V. Hagy of Richmond. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2 p.m., Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Fredericksburg, Va. Memorial donations may be made to the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, 308 Hanover St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401, in her memory. Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, Virginia Beach, in charge of arrangements.

HARLOW
Martin Leslie "Pop" Harlow, age 99, died Thursday, November 8, 2001 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Tinsley Harlow. Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Merle and Preston Sechrist of Rockville and Ellen and Aubrey Fletcher of Ashland; five grandchildren and their spouses, Connie and Junie West, Taran and Ray Main, Candice and Mac Worley, Marty Sechrist, Eric Fletcher; seven great-grandchildren and their spouses, Preston Ray and Lesley Main, Kellie and Shelbie West, Connor, Kate and Jake Worley; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pryce and Sue Wickham. The family will receive friends at any time after 2 p.m. today at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment will follow in Berea Baptist Church Cemetery in Rockville, In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Berea Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 280, Rockville, Va. 23146.

HARRIS
Despina Harris (Haritakis), 96, of Richmond, Va., passed away Thursday, November 8, 2001. She was born in Alatsata, Asia Minor. She was the widow of Manuel Pechas (Petsitis) and Andrew S. Haritakis. She was a founding member of the Philoptochos Society, Myrophores Chapter 1097. She is survived by nieces, Despina Crist and husband, Robert; Maria Tsotras and husband, Stefano, all of Athens, Greece; nephews, Rev. Anthony Pentikis of Bellingham, Wash. and James Pentikis and wife, Elizabeth of Somerville, Mass.; a cousin, Ourania Aspromgos of Astoria, N.Y.; and seven godchildren. Mrs. Harris loved to work in her garden hours at a time. Now she is working in God's garden. A Trisagion prayer service will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Malvern Ave. Interment Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral Endowment Fund.

HOWELL
George F. "Cuz" Howell Sr., 74, passed away Friday, November 9, 2001. He is survived by one son, George F. Howell Jr. and his wife, Bonnie; two granchidren, Christopher and Joshua Howell, all of Monongahela, Pa.; and a devoted friend, Helen Ferrell. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Sandston Moose No. 1937 and the Moose Legion. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Washington Memorial Park. Nelsen Funeral Home handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

LESTER
Mrs. Georgia J. Lester, age 88, of 1513 Stony Force Dr., formerly of 605 Edgehill Rd. and 2403 3rd Ave., died November 8, 2001. Surviving are two sons, Errol Lester El and Carl Lester El; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Ola J. Reed of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; one brother, R. Michael Jones of San Bernardino, Calif.; nieces, nephews, devoted daughter-in-law, Anne Marie Lester El; six sisters-in-law; devoted friend, Gloria Ann Gray; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Graveside services will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, after which a memorial service will be held at First African Baptist Church at 12 noon. Rev. Dennis Thomas officiating.

LUGAR
Lawrence E. Lugar, 69, of Richmond, died Friday, November 9, 2001. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Lugar, Carula Williams, and Ethel Paxton; and three brothers, Elwood, Burnette, and Odell Lugar. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann Lugar; two daughters, Debra L. Rea and husband, Earl, and Donna Lugar and fiance, Scott Lucy; five stepchildren, Donnie Burton, Brenda Mittelstadter, Wanda Hodges, Teresa Kellison and husband, Allen, and Robert Burton Jr.; two grandchildren, Lena Lugar and Justin Lucy; eight stepgrandchildren, Christina, James, Ashley, Michelle, Hunter, Jonathan, Marcus, and Shawn; three brothers, Kenneth W. of Forest, Robert D. of Salem, and William L. Lugar of Richmond; and loving nephew, Paul David “Peanut” Lugar; and other nieces, nephews, and cousins. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Mr. Lugar was an Army veteran with nine years of service, including service in the Korean War. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Caroline Community Church, 112 John Paul Jones Dr., Ruther Glen, Va. 22546.

LUSH
George Ben Lush, an Amelia County dairyman, died November 9, 2001 at age 93. Raised in Chesterfield, Va., he later bought a dairy farm in Amelia where he was active in community affairs. He helped to bring the telephone to the county, build the War Memorial Building and served as president of Ruritans and Young Farmers. He was active in Mount Herman Baptist Church in Chesterfield and later in Piedmont Baptist Church in Amelia where he was a deacon for over 50 years until his death. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Brooks Lush; daughters, Gail Powell of New Zealand and Bonnie Yospin of Amelia; son, Sandy R. Lush of Amelia; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Piedmont Baptist Church, 17801 Genito Road, Amelia, on Sunday, November 11 at 4 p.m., followed by fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Piedmont Baptist Church Building Fund or the James L. Hamner Library.

MARTIN
Charles Otis Martin died suddenly at his home in Mechanicsville, Va. on Saturday, November 10, 2001. Born July 31, 1917 in Nelson County, Va. to the late James Otis and Fannie Wood Martin, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Elva Martin Ancarrow. Surviving are his wife, Janet Watts Martin; daughter, Linda Martin Sowers; and four grandchildren, Kenneth M. Ancarrow of Doe Hill, Va., Charles E. Sowers of Richmond, La Donna Smith of Virginia Beach, Martin L. Sowers of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Martin was a retiree from Virginia Tractor. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday at Adial Baptist Church, Faber, Va., where he was a lifelong member. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Adial Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Frank Wood, 724 Rocky Road, Lovingston, Va 22949.

MEARS
Vernelle Margaret Blankenship Mears, widow of William J. Mears, died on November 8, 2001. A Richmond native, she was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School Class of 1942. Mrs. Mears retired from the City of Richmond Commissioner of Revenue office after 36 years of service. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi social/service sorority for 53 years. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia B. and William E. Dvorak; nieces, Jacqueline D. Bolt, Victoria Dvorak-Cremins and Beth Dvorak Davenport, all of Richmond; nephews, Jay P. Dvorak of Richmond, and William E. Dvorak III of Chicago, Ill.; seven great-nieces and great-nephews and an abundance of wonderful friends. Remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Saturday, 4 to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Beta Sigma Phi memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. A Rosary will be said 7 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of the Resurrection will take place at St. Edward Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Dr., on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Beta Sigma Phi Medical Equipment Fund, c/o Mrs. Imogene Johnson, 6418 Morningside Drive, Richmond, Va. 23226, or St. Gertrude High School Capital Campaign, 3215 Stuart Avenue, Richmond Va. 23221.

SELBERIS
Lia Rose Selberis, 30, of Richmond, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001. She is survived by her fiance, Dwayne A. Curd; parents, William H. Selberis and Sandra J. Selberis; sister, Kara Selberis; brother, William H. Selberis Jr.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Virkler; aunt, Ann Knodle; uncle, Doug and his wife, Clara Virkler; godmother, Betty Virkler; and several cousins and friends. Lia was an art student at VCU and worked at Cocoanut Jewelry. When she was taken from us, her life was a flower in full bloom. The family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2001. SHOWKER
Pauline Dinkle Showker, 91, of Harrisonburg, died November 8, 2001. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia S. and Philip Williamson of Midlothian; granddaughter, Kelley Davis and her husband, Robert of Richmond; grandson, Michael Brett Shifflett of Houston, Texas; sisters-in-law, Thelma Eiland, Marge Dinkle and Veronica Dinkle; brothers-in-law, Zane and Gene Showker, all of Shenandoah Valley; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Showaker was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro, Va. Graveside funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in the Branch's Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Sunnyside Fellowship Fund, 600 University Blvd., Suite L, Harrisonburg, Va. 22801. Morrissett Funeral Home is assisting the family.

STROH
Donald Jay Stroh, 78, of Mechanicsville, widower of Dorothy S. Stroh, died Thursday, November 8, 2001. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Betty S. and Donald H. Adams; grandson, Donnie Adams; five sisters, Esther Steinman of Danville, Ohio, Mary Helen Snyder of Phoenix, Ariz., Olive Harold of Garland, Texas, Viola Vanatta of Mansfield, Ohio and Dianna Gooch of Glendale, Ariz.; a special friend, Annie Laurie Downing; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Evelyn Sweet. Mr. Stroh was retired from Exxon Corporation after 37 years of service, an Army veteran of WWII and an active member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church for many years. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 12, 2001 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 8209 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. TRZCINSKI
Jeanette A. Trzcinski, 72, of Richmond, passed away November 9, 2001. Jeanette was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Francis L. "Johnny" Trzcinski; sons, Michael, Mark and Steven Trzcinski; sister, Audrey Kerns; and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Private family services will be held.
