Kristine Marie Barnes

Kristine Marie Barnes passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the age of 58. She was born to Bob and Anita Basich on May 27, 1957. Kris was a 1975 graduate of Aberdeen High School and Grays Harbor Community College in 1977, where she met her devoted husband, Leonard.

As we mourn our heartbreaking loss, the heavens are rejoicing. There is no doubt that Kris has already taken on a multitude of leadership roles among the saints. She will be terribly missed by family and friends who knew that if anything needed to be done and done right, just ask Kris, the go-to girl!

Kris gave a 110% effort in everything she did. As Office Manager at Ingram, Zelasko, & Goodwin, LLP for the last twenty three years, Kris could be counted on to do a multitude of jobs with her signature style and grace. Words cannot adequately describe her incredible talents whether it was on the sewing machine, computer, in the kitchen, or planning weddings. Kris’s organizational gifts were second to none and she was deeply passionate in whatever she set out to do. She was the right hand woman as her dad’s campaign manager, community fund-raiser, assistant coach, a second mother to a number of Harbor athletes, and a dedicated community servant.

Above all, Kris made family her #1 priority. Kris and her husband, Leonard, were inseparable. They were married on July 30, 1977 for 39 years, and she was his best friend & most loyal fan in all his coaching roles at Grays Harbor College, Evergreen State College, and Aberdeen High School. Kris and Len were a team! As (honorary) “Assistant Coach”, statistician, uniform designer, analyst, and scout, she was Leonard’s “Special K.” They enjoyed traveling the country together as super fans for the Seahawks, Mariners, Huskies, and Zags.

Children and grandchildren were the center of Kris’s world. She was so proud and fiercely protective of her four children, Tiffanee, Dominic, Brandon, and Malloree. They will forever treasure the unconditional love and support she provided in all their activities. Kris easily shattered the bar in defining the role of “Team Mom”. Her three precious grandchildren, Peytyn, Maddox, and Emery were showered with constant love, quality time, and gifts.

Kris loved the Harbor, her beloved home for 58 years. She made a huge impact on so many lives. The Barnes’ home was a place of unlimited generosity and hospitality, lively conversations (including much second-guessing about coaching and officiating calls) and most importantly, genuine fellowship and laughter. She relished doing all the cooking for family gatherings, creating a wonderful presentation, and making all the beautiful arrangements. In Kris’s world, it was all about family! Her homemade ravioli and spaghetti sauce rivaled her Italian Grandmother, Nonni’s. Leonard and Kris also enjoyed celebrating her Italian heritage by wine tasting around the state.

Kris is survived by her loving husband, Leonard and their four children: Tiffanee Chaufty (fiancé Ryan Parson); Dominic Barnes (fiancé Nellie Root); Brandon Barnes; Malloree Fontanilla (Larry); her dear mother, Anita Basich; her in-laws, Maurice and Donna Barnes; her brother John Basich (Cindy); her sister, Kathy Hunsaker (Bill); brother-in-law Morris Lee (Marilyn); nephews Gabriel Basich (Amanda) and Rob Hunsaker; nieces Mylei Carlson (Steven) and Haley Mangum (Daniel); numerous cousins; and her three treasured grandchildren, Peytyn, Maddox, and Emery. Kris was preceded in death by her father, Robert “Bob” Basich, whom she held near and dear.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, April 22 from 4-6 p.m. at Harrison Family Mortuary. A family only viewing will follow from 6-7 p.m. Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, April 23 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen. Reception will be held at the Grays Harbor College HUB.

To honor Kris’s legacy of unending service to the community and love of basketball, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Grays Harbor College Foundation for a basketball scholarship in her name (Kris Barnes Memorial).

James Travis Obias
Aug. 9, 2000 - April 13, 2016

James was the beloved son of Leslie Perdue and Travis Obias. James was blessed with adoring parents and relatives. His beauty of spirit sparkled brightly - like a comet, his life crossed the night skies. Like a comet, his life was extinguished long before we were ready to let him go. Now we are left to mourn the passing of his spirit, but grateful to have shared the wonder of James’ vibrant comet-like fire.

James loved his friends and family, lived for the exultant release of energy that soccer and wrestling provided. Like every teenager, he pushed against the boundaries that every loving parent provides. In the process of finding himself, he lost himself.

James is survived by his parents, Leslie Perdue and Travis Obias of Hoquiam; his grandfather Ron Perdue of Hoquiam; grandmother, Ruth (Dave) Pierce of Olympia; his sweet little aunt, Lillie Rose Perdue of Hoquiam; grandparents, Obie and Jeri Obias of Stevenson, Wash.; great-grandfather, Don Hubble; special aunt, Ondine St. Martin; uncles, Jamie Obias, Josiah Obias, Paul Obias, and Marc Perdue; aunts, Jayme Obias and Lorraine Payne of Stevenson; cousins, Amya, Aria, Delaney, Collin, Leah, Jayda, and Lilyanne Ruth; great-uncles, Scott Hubble and Todd Hubble and other relatives.

Services for James will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the Immanuel Baptist Church at 1200 Soule Avenue in Hoquiam. Donations in James’ memory may be made to the Grays Harbor Community Foundation for the establishment of a scholarship fund in his name. Please mail them to 707 J Street, Hoquiam, WA 98550.

It is the hope of James’ family that his fellow students will join them to honor his memory. All are welcome. It is their wish that the memory of James Obias will remain with you always, that in his memory you will find tenderness and the strength to build a life that serves as a shining example for all to follow.

Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 - 5th Street in Hoquiam.
