Edward P. Wagner, Sr.
Lifelong Waukesha resident, Edward P. Wagner, Sr., died on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at the Woodland Health Care Center in Brookfield at the age of 84 years.

Ed was born on November 13, 1917 in Waukesha, the son of Peter & Amelia (nee Klewin) Wagner.

Ed was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Waukesha. He was a machinist at Waukesha Engine where he was also a member of the Old Timers' Club. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps and was a World War II veteran. He was a member of the Waukesha Veterans of Foreign Wars Soat-Vergenz Post 721 and the American Legion Post 449 in Elm Grove. He was also a member of the Waukesha Eagles Club.

Ed was the dear father of Edward (Linda) Wagner of Waukesha and Connie (James) Wagner-Carnako of Wauwatosa. He was the proud grandfather of Ron (Carrie) Heibler of Stevens Point and John (Carrie Krug) Wagner of Milwaukee. He is the great grandfather of Laura, Melanie, Rebecca and Katie. Also surviving are other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1995.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 17, 200l at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home on Moreland Blvd. at 2 p.m. Pastor Frank Janzow will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, November 16, 2001 from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of service. Interment will follow the services on Saturday at Pilgrims' Rest Cemetery in Pewaukee where Military Honors will be provided by the Waukesha VFW Soat-Vergenz Post 721.

Francis R. (Lefty) Eshman
Francis R. (Lefty) Eshman, of Waukesha, born on March 18, 1926 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of Francis and Alice (nee Randolph) Eshman, died on Friday, November 9, 2001 at the Linden Grove Health Care Center in New Berlin at the age of 75 years.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He served in the Army Air Corps and was a disabled American Vet and belonged to D.A.V. He was the mayor of Waukesha from 1966 to 1967. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Casey.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mary M., whom he married on June 26, 1951, his children; Michael of Waukesha, Patrick (Danita) of California, Timothy of Waukesha and Kelly Eshman of Waukesha, his grandchildren; Elizabeth, Ryan and Isabella, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass for Francis will be Monday, November 26, 2001 at 10:00 am at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave. Father Brian Mason will officiate. Friends may call on Sunday, November 25, 2001 at the Cesarz ,Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home on Moreland Blvd from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. A parish vigil will be at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

George J. Mertes
George J. Mertes, of Waukesha, died on Friday, March 8, 2002 at Virginia Health Care Center at the age of 89 years.

George was born on Dec. 1, 1912 in Milwaukee, WI the son of Jacob and Rose Mertes. He graduated from St. Lawrence Catholic Grade School and South Division High School in Milwaukee. He then attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and Marquette University. George married Ona (nee Fischer) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waukesha on June 22, 1935. He was an inspector with Waukesha Motor Co. from 1935 - 1941, an Inspector with the United States Navy Dept. from 1941-1947 and 1950 - 1952 and was the Quality Assurance Manager with the Waukesha Foundry Co. from 1948 - 1949 and 1952 - 1978 when he retired. George was a member of St. William's Catholic Church for the last 32 years, a member of the Serra Club, a member of the South Division Old Timer's Club, Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus - Waukesha Council #1825 where he served for 8 years as their business agent, Past Faithful Navigator of Albert Cardinal Meyer Assembly 1304, 4th degree, Past President of the Wisconsin Chapter of the Am. Society of Nondestructive Testing and Member of the American Foundry Society. George enjoyed public speaking and served as a master of ceremonies for over 100 programs. He and his wife Ona were foster parents to 85 children over a period of 23 years and he remained very active in his retirement and especially enjoyed swimming and bingo. George is preceded in death by his wife: Ona (nee Fischer) Mertes, his parents: Jacob & Rose Mertes, His brothers: Bernard and Charles Mertes and his sisters: Connie Stanton, Mary and Audrey Mertes.

George will be sadly missed by his daughter: Sandra Mertes of Waukesha his special friend: Harriet Bartelmas nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

The funeral mass for George will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at St. William's Catholic Church. Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home on Moreland Blvd. Burial will be immediately following the mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Waukesha, WI. Masses are appreciated or memorials to St. William's Catholic Church.

Gerald G. Turks
Gerald G. Turks, age 68 of Waukesha died Wednesday October 17, 2001 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Gerald was born December 3, 1932 in Hawkins Wisconsin, a son of the late John and Anna (nee Mikich) Turks.

He attended St. Joseph’s Grade school and Waukesha High School before going into the U.S. Army. He served his country from January 1951 to December 1953 in Germany. On October 9, 1954 he married Marilyn Graser at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waukesha. From 1959 to 1995 he worked at Dynex-Rivett Company in Pewaukee, Wisconsin Gerald is a member of St. William’s Catholic Church in Waukesha. He was a deeply religious and spiritual man. He looked forward to going to church each day that he could. He also delivered food for Meals On Wheels. He liked being outdoors and loved watching sports. He was preceded in death by his parents: his brother and sister-In-Law: Robert “Bob” (Carol) Turks, Brother John Turks, Loren Turks, a sister: Arlyn Feist, Lorraine Koestler, Brother-In-Law: Sonny Eichstadt, and his Son-In-Law: Donald Franzen.

Gerald is survived by his wife: Marilyn Turks of Waukesha, his three children: Marlees Franzen of Waukesha, Wisconsin. Suzanne (James) Weyandt of Waukesha, Wisconsin. and Thomas (Stephanie Jenkins) Turks of Dousman, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his five (5) Grandchildren: Chad Franzen, Jaime Franzen, Allison Turks, Timothy Bopp, and Dalton Weyandt, all of Waukesha, Wisconsin along with a Great Grandson: Noah Turks of Waukesha, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his three (3) sisters: Lucille McCormick of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Dolores (Chuck) Peterson of Windsor, California, and Jeanette Eichstadt of East Troy, Wisconsin, his brother-In-Law and Best Friend: Kenneth Graser of Waukesha, Wisconsin along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday October 20, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at St. William’s Catholic Church in Waukesha. Father Mark Payne will be the Celebrant of the Mass. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday October 19, 2001. at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home in Waukesha and also on Saturday October 20 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. A parish vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to his family.

Helen Marie Fromm
Helen Marie Fromm, of Waukesha, found peace on Friday, October 5, 2001 at the age of 54. She was born March 1, 1947 in New Ulm, Minnesota, the daughter of Marvin and Helen Altmann.

Beloved wife and best friend of Thomas James, loving mother of Thomas John (Jenny), Timothy (Liz) and Michelle (Jeff) Plambeck, grandmother of Amber, Sister of Shirley (William) Krohn, Bonnie (Wallace) Bastian, Margaret (Tom) Albrecht, Sharon Madsen, Joanne, Lois (Robert) Schneider, Norma (Del) Bergseth and Howard Altmann, further survived by other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Joanne. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen will be Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at 10:30 am at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd. Friends may call at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home on Monday, October 8, 2001, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. And on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 am until the time of Mass. A parish vigil will be held on Monday at 6:30 pm. Entombment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, masses are appreciated, memorials to the Cooperating Congregations of Waukesha County or to St. William Catholic Church would be appreciated.

Herbert Nevin Van Voorhis
Herbert Nevin Van Voorhis, born in Folkston, Georgia, the son of James Ross Van Voorhis and Jeannette Tinna Lepley on November 4, 1909, died June 10, 2001 at age 91.

"Van" spent most of his youth in Jacksonville, Florida. He migrated to Flint, Michigan in 1929 to attend General Motors Institute, graduating in 1933. He worked at Buick Motor Division of General Motors Corporation for 40 years as an automotive engineer, retiring in 1973.

He was a member of the Phi Tau Alpha Fraternity and a Past Master of Genesee Lodge #174, F & AM, in Flint. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Waukesha, WI.

He is survived by one son, Steven Charles Van Voorhis (Barbara), grandchildren Jeffrey Coert Van Voorhis (Lara) and Dawn Michelle Van Voorhis, all of Waukesha, several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy (nee Boudler), son Coert Russell Van Voorhis, brother James Claron Van Voorhis and sister Isabelle (King) Van Voorhis.

A Memorial Service will be at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1415 Dopp Street, Waukesha, on Wednesday, June 13 at 10:30 am. There will be no visitation. Private burial will be at Prairie Home Cemetery. Memorials may be offered to Ascension Lutheran Church Memorial Gardens Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association. Cesarz,Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home is serving the family. 542-6609.

Ida C. Stark
Ida C. Stark (nee Steinbach) of Waukesha (Saylesville) found peace on Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at The Waters of Westmoreland Health Care Center at the age of 103 years. She was born on September 14, 1898 in Hamburg, Germany, the daughter of William and Sophie Steinbach. Ida was preceded in death by her loving husband Conrad. They married in 1919.

Ida was the dear mother of four sons: William (Marianne) of Palmyra, Melvin (Marge) of Waukesha, Donald (Oodie) of Mukwonago and Dale (Mary Lee) of Pewaukee. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Ida was the clerk at the Saylesville School for many years. She worked at Waukesha Memorial Hospital for 21 years, having retired in 1977. Ida never missed a day of work at the hospital and received an award for her perfect attendance. Years ago, she and her husband, Conrad, owned and managed a poultry farm in Saylesville for 30 years. She was active in the Knights of Pythias and the Royal Neighbors during her younger years. She was also a member of the Saylesville Sunshine Club.

Ida’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire staff at the Waters of Westmoreland where she resided for the past 12 years.

Funeral services will be Sunday, February 10, 2002 at 4:00 pm at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home at 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, Wisconsin. Pastor Howard Bowman will officiate.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 pm until time of services. Private interment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the First Congregational Church in Waukesha or the Charity of the Donor’s choice. Josephine B. Krueger
Josephine B. Krueger of Waukesha, died Sunday March 4, 2001 at her home following a short illness.

Josephine was born in Krakow, Wisconsin, the daughter of Stanley and Bessie (nee Ciosek) Grych. On September 25, 1937 she married Howard Krueger in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She was a music teacher who taught out of her home. She touched hundreds of children teaching them how to play the piano, guitar, and accordion for over forty years. She also loved to knit, crochet, read and especially enjoyed her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard (on March 26, 1994), her brothers and sisters: Edward and Stanley Grych, Harriet Tronson and Stella Warner.

Josephine is survived by her five children: Howard (Sandy) Krueger of Ripon, Wisconsin, Sue (Jim) Francois of Waukesha, Joyce (John) Page of Mountain Brook, Alabama, Thomas W. (Bonnie) Krueger of Waukesha, William (Debbie) Krueger of Waukesha; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, her two close friends; Mary Brauch of Waukesha and Elizabeth Sommerfeld of Gillett, Wisconsin along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Josephine are planned Thursday March 8, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home. Rev. Frank R. Gaylord, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Waukesha will be the officiant. Entombment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday March 7, 2001 from 4 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday March 8th, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.

James M. Martello
James M. Martello, age 48 years of Ormond Beach, Florida, formerly of Waukesha, died on Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at his home.

James was born on February 12, 1953 in Waukesha, the son of Mike and Mary Martello. He was Superintendent at Halifax Plantation Golf Course in Ormond Beach, Florida. He was a member of the GCSAA and PGA. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and wrestling with his children.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 21 years, Virginia, his son, Anthony, and his daughter, Lori, of Ormond Beach, Florida, and by his parents, Mike and Mary Martello, Sr. of Pewaukee, Wisconsin , and his brother, Mike Martello Jr. of Pewaukee, WI, along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for James will be on Monday, July 1, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, (S22 W22890 E. Broadway, Waukesha.) Father Leonard Barbian from St. William's Catholic Church will be the officiant. Friends may call at the cemetery chapel on Monday from 12:00 noon until time of service at 2:00 p.m. Entombment will follow the service. Memorials in James' name may be directed to the family or to Community Baptist Church Building Fund (HCL Box 61 Bunell, Florida 32110) Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home is serving the family.
