Myrtle F. Duenkel
Myrtle F. Duenkel, nee Schaefer, 74, of West Bend, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
She was born Sept. 26, 1926, in Kewaskum, to the late Elmer and Ella (nee Roehrdanz) Schaefer, and married Arthur W. Duenkel on July 8, 1950, at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church in Barton.
He passed away Aug. 14, 1992.
Myrtle loved gardening and was a wonderful cook.
Survivors include five children, June Duenkel of Random Lake, Betty (Vincent) Janz of St. Cloud, James (Mary) Duenkel of Newburg, Ray Duenkel of St. Cloud and Richard (Mary Ann) Duenkel of Kewaskum; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Schwartz of West Bend and Earla Brantner of West Bend; a brother, Allen (Marie) Schaefer of Allenton; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend.
Rev. Victor Hackbarth will officiate, and burial will at 9 a.m. on Thursday in St. Mary's Cemetery, West Bend.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.
Margaret C. Zimmermann
Margaret C. Zimmermann, nee Brum, 94, of Slinger, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Virginia Highlands Health and Rehabilitation Center, Germantown.
She was born July 29, 1907, in St. Lawrence to the late Jacob and Kunigunde (Kauper) Brum, and married Alfred F. Zimmermann in 1941 in Spokane, Wash.
Her husband passed away in 1984.
Survivors include a sister, Celia Votapek of Germantown; two nieces, Helene (Vern) Knepel of Colgate and Cele Ihlenfeld of Chippewa Falls; two nephews, Jim Votapek of Hubertus and Mark Brum of Iron Ridge; a son-in-law, Dennis Gebhard of Slinger; two grandchildren, Annette (Scott) Krueger of Slinger and Jeff (Sara) Gebhard of Brandon; two great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Cody Gebhard; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a son, Richard, and a daughter, Ann C. Gebhard.
Margaret was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, the Christian Mother's Society, the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and she was very active with The Threshold of West Bend.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church of Slinger.
Father Robert J. Bales will officiate, and interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Lawrence.
Visitation at the church only will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
Memorials are appreciated to The Threshold Inc. of West Bend.

Joan A. Weinfurter
Joan A. Weinfurter, nee Knevett, 73, of West Bend, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 27, 1927, in London, England, to the late Harold and Winifred (Ellison) Knevett and grew up in Putney, England.
During World War II she met Alfred J. Weinfurter, marrying him on July 12, 1945, in London.
After their first child, Carole, was born in March 1946, the couple came to the U.S. later that year, settling in Marshfield. They later moved to Mequon, finally settling in West Bend.
Joan worked at Cedar Lake Home for 20 years, retiring in 1993.
She enjoyed life to the fullest, traveling to England during the time she lived in the U.S. and also traveling around the United States.
Joan loved to collect teapots from all over, and enjoyed knitting, gardening, her pet birds and long walks.
She also enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making her famous dumpling dinner for all the family to enjoy. She loved seeing their smiling faces when she served them that special dinner.
Survivors include eight children, Linda (Gary) Griesch of Mequon, Marion (Bill) Buelow of Las Vegas, Nev., Perry (Mary) of Slinger, Dianne (friend Chuck) of Clyman, Steven (Jane) of Kewaskum, Kenny (Debbie) of Fond du Lac, Sharon (Rich) Kind of West Bend and Glenn (Connie) of Hartford; 23 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold and Bob of England; a sister, Joyce Stevens of England; nieces; nephews; many other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, and a daughter, Carole.
Private funeral services were held.
Herbert W. Brocklehurst
Herbert W. Brocklehurst, 62, of Big Cedar Lake, West Bend, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
He was born Jan. 28, 1939, in South Milwaukee to the late Herbert H. and Madeline (nee Stoller) Brocklehurst.
After high school Herb attended MATC. He then worked as a steamfitter for 42 years until retiring in 1995.
He was formerly employed at Johnson Controls in Milwaukee and was a member of the Steamfitters Local 601.
Survivors include his partner in life of 22 years, Susan Fortney of Big Cedar Lake; two children, Michael Brocklehurst of Big Cedar Lake and Sherry (Kevin) Talbot of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Elizabeth (Bob Hanson) Fadale of Jamestown, N.Y., Elaine (Edward) Haese of Mercer and Judith (Chuck) Reed of Milwaukee; an aunt, Mary Bortzer of Tidioute, Pa.; other relatives and many friends.
Preceding him in death were three uncles, Charles, Harry and Wade, and an aunt, Ruth.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of services.
Cremation took place at Valhalla Memorial Gardens in Milwaukee.
Barbara J. Thierer
Barbara J. Thierer, 53, of Arbor Vitae, formerly of West Bend, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Howard Young Medical Center, Woodruff.
Barbara was born Feb. 1, 1948, in Stevens Point to the late Arthur and Dora (Santo) Abel, and married Norman Thierer on Jan. 13, 1968, in Park Falls.
Barbara and Norman moved from West Bend to Arbor Vitae in 1994.
She was the owner and operating CEO of Gundrilling of Wisconsin.
Barbara was a hardworking, caring, giving person, and was very much an animal lover.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Michael (Marlene) of Norfolk, Va. and Mark and his fiance Holli of Newburg; five brothers, William (Linda) Abel of Park Falls, James (Jane) Abel of Lake Tahoe, Nev., John (Nina) Abel of Mexico, Mo., Richard (Laura) Abel of Marshfield and David Abel of Park Falls; two sisters, Judy (Jim) Golomb of Park Falls and Anita (James) Shaske of Grand Marsh; three grandchildren, Eric, Jeffrey and Alexander Thierer.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Susie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Rock of Ages Evangelical Lutheran Church, Minocqua.
Pastor Walter Giest will officiate, and burial will be in the Nola Cemetery, Park Falls.
Visitation at the church will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
The Campbell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Woodruff, assisted the family with arrangements.
William H. Schmitz
William H. Schmitz, 75, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., went to be with the Lord Monday, July 30, 2001, from the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Sheboygan, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer.
Bill was born July 25, 1926, in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Harold and Selma (Henselmier) Schmitz.
After two tours of duty with the U.S. Army, he graduated from Elmhurst College in Illinois in 1952 with a BA in English.
He was employed with the Highway Users Federation for Safety and Mobility out of Washington D.C., but spent most of his 27-year career lobbying for safety-related transportation issues in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
On June 25, 1955, Bill and Jacqueline Riner were married in Villa Park, Ill. She passed away on June 11, 1976.
He married Janie (Vinson) Stocker on Oct. 7, 1978, in West Bend. They resided in Elmhurst, Ill. before retiring to Hot Springs Village where he was active in teaching computer classes through SeniorNet.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sharon (Michael) Stark of Coral Springs, Fla. and their children, Stephanie, Jeffrey and Corrie; Sandra (Anthony) Guaccio of Homewood, Ill. and their children, Anthony and Austin; Sheila (Michael) Freeman of Lansing, Mich. and their children, Victoria and Jacqueline; stepchildren, Karen Stocker of Madison; Bruce (Cheryl) Stocker of Sheboygan; Judy (Todd) Brandt of Two Rivers and their children, Jake and Luke; Steve (Nicki) Stocker of Elm Grove and their children, Anna and Alexandra.
Bill was a great father, husband and friend, and his sense of humor, dry wit, and expertise in teaching will be sadly missed by family, friends, students and cohorts.
A private memorial service was held for his family in Sheboygan with plans for a celebration of his life at a later date.
