Steven Ray Lloyd

Steven Ray Lloyd, 50, of Fountain, Colo., passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004.

He was born Aug. 17, 1954, in Buckhannon, the son of the late Oren (Tom) Lloyd Sr. and Thelma Irene Lower Lloyd, who still survives and resides at Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon.

He was united in marriage to Louise (Lisa) Brown on Nov. 26, 1983, who still survives in Fountain.

In addition to his mother and wife, surviving are daughter Lisa Ann Lloyd of Casa Grande, Arizona, from his first marriage to Beverly Berry; one stepdaughter Rhiannon Gray of Fountain, one granddaughter and three step grandchildren; three brothers: Oren (Bill) and wife Thelma Lloyd, Bernard and wife Dolly Lloyd and Charles and wife Norma Lloyd, all of Buckhannon; sister Martha and husband Billy Channell, also of Buckhannon; four nephews, five nieces, and grand nieces and nephews.

He will be buried in Fountain, where he and wife Lisa have lived for the past 14 years. Our beloved brother, uncle, father and grandfather will be deeply missed.

Elsie Anita Knutson Campbell

Elsie Anita Knutson Campbell, age 88, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. She was born July 10, 1920 in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, a daughter of the late Karl Ole and Marit Haugen Knutson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by one son, Charles R. (Rick) Campbell, a daughter and son in law, Karla and Bill Hyman and family friend and caretaker, Paula Misick-Potts all of Buckhannon, WV; four grandchildren, Chadwick Carney Campbell of Saint Louis, MO, Whitney Evan Campbell of Houston, TX, Dawn Michelle Hyman of Bridgeport, WV and Vincent Sherwood Hyman of Buckhannon and one great grandson, Jayden Carney Paquett of Houston. Elsie worked in Washington DC as a secretary to J. Edgar Hoover in the early 1940s. She met and married Dr. Charles Campbell on October 23, 1943 at Saint Margarets Episcopal Church in Washington DC. She then moved to San Diego, CA for several years before driving cross-country to settle in WV. Elsie was a homemaker, member of the Eastern Star and a test baker for Betty Crocker Kitchens, winning many awards for her original receipes. She loved to read and was a published poet. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 30, 2009 at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Buckhannon with Father John Valentine as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Cunningham Memorial Gardens in Saint Albans, WV. Donations may be made to the Food For The Journey, c/o the Church of the Transfiguration. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gary M. Jack

Gary M. Jack, 59, of Buckhannon died Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at St. Joseph?s Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1944, in Buckhannon, the son of the late John Aldo Jack and Edith Lanham Jack. In addition to his parents, one brother Jimmy Lee Jack preceded him in death.

Surviving are two brothers: Bob and wife Mary Jane Jack of Buckhannon and Russell Jack of Weston; two sisters: Dorothy and husband Jerry Hayhurst and Loretta and husband Larry Gillespie, all of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the Buckhannon Volunteer Fire Department and attended Liberty in Christ Church.

Friends will be received on Saturday, October 16, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home Inc. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, October 17, at the funeral home with the Rev. Mike Westfall officiating. The burial will follow at the Rock Springs Cemetery at Kesling Mill.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Buckhannon Fire Department.

Ethel J. Gower

Ethel J. Gower, 81, of Buckhannon died Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at Angie?s Private Care in Buckhannon. She was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Lewis County, the daughter of the late Dorsey Cottrill and Muriel Cottrill. She was united in marriage on May 21, 1940, to the late Welton S. Gower, who preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1983.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by Elsworth and Vesta Ward (whom she was raised by), two sisters: Wilma F. Cottrill and Polly A. Bailey, and two brothers: Edward C. and Earle D. Cottrill.

Surviving are three sons: Norman R. and wife Wanda Gower of Glenville, Michael D. and wife Debbie Gower of Buckhannon and Robert S., Sr. and wife Gloria Gower of Reidsville, N.C.; a daughter Judith and husband David Beighley of Buckhannon; a sister Mary Lurene Gower of Buckhannon; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was a homemaker, member of the Order Eastern Star of Clairmont, Va., and attended Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church.

Friends were received on Thursday, October 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home Inc. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m., today, October 15, at the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Lang officiating. The burial will follow at the Mt. Lebanon Church Cemetery.

Poling St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

David Allen ?Day Day? Thompson

David Allen ?Day Day? Thompson, 38, of Danville, W.Va., died Saturday, October 9, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.

He was born Jan. 6, 1966, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Charles Spencer Thompson and Delorse Thompson. In addition to his parents, also preceding him in death was a sister Delorse Sue Thompson.

Surviving are two brothers: Charles Steve Thompson of Danville and Michael Thompson of Ohio; and special friend David Rowan Jr. of Buckhannon.

Friends will be received today, Oct. 18, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home Inc.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home with the Rev. Junior Harris and the Rev. Jerry R. Friend officiating.

The burial will follow at the Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon. The Poling St. Clair Funeral Home Inc. of Buckhannon is in charge of the arrangements.

David Allen ?Day Day? Thompson

David Allen ?Day Day? Thompson, 38, of Danville, W.Va., died Saturday, October 9, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.

Mabel Margaret Gillespie

Mabel Margaret Gillespie, 83, of Elkins, passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at a descendant?s residence in Elkins.

She was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Red Rock, W.Va., the daughter of the late Rhys Thomas Evans and Elva May Sines Evans.

She was united in marriage on Dec. 20, 1941, to Thurman Lynn Gillespie, who preceded her in death July 4, 1991.

Two sons: James Edward Nixon, of Canton, Ohio, and Michael S. Gillespie, of Buckhannon, survive her.

A daughter, Patricia Lynn Fletcher, of Elkins, also survives her.

A brother, Rhys Thomas Evans Jr., of Buckhannon, survives Mrs. Gillespie as does a sister, Mildred Ann Carpenter, also of Buckhannon.

Four grandsons: J.E. Nixon, of Ohio, David Allen Nixon, of Buckhannon, Charles Michael Fletcher, of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Kurt Michael Gillespie, of Morgantown, survive her as well.

Four granddaughters: Kelly Fletcher Shuppe, of Elkins, Tracy Lynn Nixon Zickefoose, of Buckhannon, Kara Michelle Blevins, of Ashland, Ky., and Leigh Margaret Fletcher, of Elkins, also survive her.

Eight great-grandchildren also survive Mrs. Gillespie.

In addition to her father, mother and husband, two sisters: Sara Campbell and Gertrude Jean Hardy preceded her in death.

Mrs. Gillespie was a homemaker and a Seventh Day Adventist. She was also a member of the Buckhannon VFW Post No. 3663 Ladies Auxiliary.

Friends will be received Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Inc.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. J. Edward McDaniels will be officiating.

Burial will take place at the Heavner Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corp., Davis Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241.

Lucille Kerere Ancell Holder

Lucille ?Aunt Cill? Kerere Ancell Holder, 86, of Volga died Monday, October 18, 2004, at Nella?s Nursing Home in Crystal Springs.

She was born May 20, 1918, in McIntyer, W.Va., the daughter of the late Matteo Kerere and Julie Moore Kerere. She was married to late Cecil Ancell for 48 years and second husband, the late James Holder for four years. In addition to her parents and husbands, also preceding her in death are a son Vance Edward Ancell, three brothers, and two sisters.

Surviving are three sisters: Grace and husband Woodrow Reed of Grafton, Amelia ?Ted? Squires of Twinsburg, Ohio, and Mary and husband Sam Naskey of Adrian; and several nieces and nephews.

Lucille was a homemaker and a member of the Way of Holiness Church.

Friends will be received today, Oct. 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home Inc. The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21 at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating.

The burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Center Point, W.Va. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Lucille to Heart and Hand House, PO Box 128, Philippi, WV 26416.

Patricia Joann Pickens

Patricia Joann Pickens, 76, of Buckhannon, died Monday, September 27, 2004, at her home from complications of Alzheimer?s. She was born July 22, 1928, in Weston, a daughter of the late Adam W. and Dale Rohrbough Pickens.

She is survived by one brother Donald R. Pickens of Jane Lew, one sister Rita J. Pickens Weaver of Weston, life long friend, housemate and caregiver Helen L. Payne, one aunt Maxine Rohrbough Alkire of Weston, many nephews and nieces (including great, great-great and great-great-great).

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by six brothers: James G., George L., Adam W. Jr., Richard K., David L., and infant brother; two sisters: Ruth M. Kidd and Juanita V. Pickens.

She graduated from Weston High School with the class of 1946 and from West Virginia Wesleyan College class of 1950 with B.A. degrees in music and English, from WV University in mid-60s with masters in P.E. Life long educator: two year band director at Cowan High School, 33 years with the Monroeville School system, in Monroeville, Ohio. Retired in 1986 and returned to West Virginia in 1994.

She was a member of Reger Chapel United Methodist Church (Brushy Fork Rd.), WV Wesleyan Emeritus Club, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and Holiday Rambler Toledo 39ers Campers Association.

Memorial services will be held at the Reger Chapel United Methodist Church in Buckhannon on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Nancy Kahaian officiating.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer?s Association.

The Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Sue Hoffman

Sue Hoffman, 54, of Dale City, Va., passed away October 23, 2004, at Brook Point Center Nursing Home from complications of Lou Gehrig?s Disease. She was born Dec. 15, 1949.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Hoffman in August 1983, who she married in 1970; and her mother, Oma Wilson in June 2004.

She is survived by one daughter Kimberly Rae and Eddie Stepps, one son Kevin James Hoffman and one granddaughter Charlotte Steeps, all of Dumfries, Va. She is also survived by her father Hobert C. Wilson of Buckhannon, two brothers: Hobert Kenneth ?Kenny? and Kay Wilson of Buckhannon and James Robert ?Bob? and Pam Wilson of French Creek, one sister Connie Wilson and Tom Angus of Buckhannon, nieces and nephews.

She was a 1967 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School and was a Methodist by faith. Graveside services were conducted October 28 at the Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, Va.

Robert John Moore

Robert John Moore Sr. 70, of French Creek and formerly of Bradford, Pa., passed away Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at St. Joseph?s Hospital.

Mr. Moore was born Feb. 28, 1934, in Brookeville, Pa., the son of the late Blaine C. and Phyllis (Snyder) Moore.

He was united in marriage Oct. 6, 1952, to Barbara J. (Wightman) Moore, who survives. They were married in the First United Methodist Church.

He was a graduate of Bradford High School in 1952. He worked for Halliburton for 11 years in the Bradford area until moving to West Virginia in 1977.

He then started United Builders, a company that he operated with his wife and sons.

In addition to his wife, a daughter, Joni Signor, of Emporium, Pa., survives him.

Four sons: Robert J. ?Gunner? Moore Jr., of Kane, Pa., Wally J. Moore, of Humbolt, Tenn., David J. Moore and Thomas J. Moore, both of French Creek, also survive him.

Two sisters: Esther Rinfrette, of Bradford, Pa., and Linda Blake, of Virginia Beach, Va., and one brother, James Moore, of West Hartford, Conn., survive him as well.

Eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews also survive Mr. Moore.

Friends will be received today, Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. on South Avenue in Bradford, Pa.

The funeral service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Harold Wightman, pastor of the Cumberland Seventh Day Adventist Church, will be officiating.

Committal services and burial will be held in the Willow Dale Cemetery in Pennsylvania.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor?s choice if desired.
