Della Varney
Della Varney, 74, of Williamson, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2003, in the Appalachian Regional Hospital, Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born April 14, 1932, in Phelps, Ky., she was the daughter of the late James M. and Elonia Cazey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Walt Varney; a brother, Ernest Taylor; and five sisters, May Edwards, Gertrude Harris, Nellie Daugherty, Mary K. Coleman and Alice Coleman.

She was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include daughters, Lois Gail Alley of Williamson, W. Va., Arlene (Randall) Marcum of Williamson, W. Va., Linda (Jerry) Tyler of Cleveland, Tenn.; stepdaughters, Bridgett Varney and Freda Varney of Williamson, W. Va.; seven grandchildren, David Mitchell Blackburn, Crystal Gail Sipple, Arlene Renee Helvey, Shawn Haven Mitchell, Scott Weston Mitchell, Melissa Ann Graham and Jerry Ray Tyler Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Izak Graham, Corey Haven Mitchell, Shawn Sipple, Tyler Graham and Dawson Tyler; four step-grandchildren, Christopher (Candy) Marcum, Jeff (Carrie) Marcum and Richard and Joseph Marcum.

Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. Sept. 4, 2003, with the Rev. Jack Maynard and Rev. Allen Shouse officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Williamson.

Visitation will be at the Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday evening.

The men of the East Williamson Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chafin Funeral Home, Delbarton.

Wallace Oliver Dillon
Wallace Oliver Dillon, 51, of Glenhayes, W. Va., passed away Monday, September 1, 2003, at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio.

Born January 7, 1952, in West Virginia to the late McCager and Pearl (May) Dillon, he was a member of Glenhayes Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Cleo Chafin and Kathy Perry; half brothers, Herb Dillon and Okie Dillon; and half sister, Brook Beckett.

Surviving are his wife, Paula Parsley Dillon of Glenhayes, W. Va.; sons, Christopher Dillon of Selma, Ind. and Mark Dillon of Selma, Ind.; daughter, Shannon Dillon Davis of Lexington, Ky.; special family members, son-in-law Mark Davis and future daughter-in-law Lori Mace; brothers, Roy Dillon of Dayton, Ohio, Clem Dillon of Dayton, Ohio, Noah Dillon of Lovely, Ky.; sisters, Tilda Doyle of Mayslick, Ky., Ruby Mitch-ell of Selma, Ind. Martha Sartin of New Carlisle, Ohio, Mary Bell Hensley of Dayton, Ohio, Julia Lester of Dayton, Ohio, Eliza Copley of New Albany, Ohio; half sister, Dora Marcum.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, 2003, noon, at Lovely Freewill Baptist Church with Ministers Lonnie Smith and Ken Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Parsley Cemetery, Marrowbone, W. Va.

Visitation will be held Wednesday and Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at the Inez Funeral Chapel.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.

Morton Gibson Sr.
Morton Gibson Sr., 85, of Rawl, died on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, W. Va.

He was born on April 25, 1918, at Island Creek, Ky., a son of the late Eli and Mary Elizabeth Ford Gibson. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Rawl Freewill Baptist Church and a member of the UMWA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Grace Gibson; four brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by one son, Morton "Bud" Gibson Jr. of Rawl; two daughters, Bondie G. Marenko of Battle Creek, Mich., and Patricia Ann Cheeck of Mt. Hope, W. Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky., with Bro. Danny Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher. Grandson will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the funeral home.

Esther C. Albrecht
Esther C. Albrecht, 79, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center.

She was born March 6, 1924 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of the late Carl F. and Leona Archer Friebis.

Esther is survived by her children, Carol (James) Montgomery of Westerville, Ohio, Barbara (John) Vance of Hardy, Ky., John (Rene) Albrecht of Marion, Ala., Richard (Marsha Albrecht of Columbus, and Fred Albrecht of Columbus; sister, Irene Drumm; a brother, Carl (Jean) Friebis; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Albrecht; her parents and a sister, Ethlyn Friebis.

Visitation hours are 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, 20903, at the Schoedinger Norris Chapel, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Schoedinger Norris Chapel immediately following the visitation. Chaplain Annette Fleischman will officiate. Interment will follow at Obetz Cemetery.

Kimberly Va Harmon Carico
Kimberly Va Harmon Carico, 45, of Lewisburg, N.C., formerly of Williamson, was delivered into the arms of God on Sept. 19, 2003.

Graveside services were conducted on Sept. 21, 2003, at Mountain View Memory Gardens with Pastor Tommy Reed officiating.

Kimberly is survived by her parents, Patricia Williams, also of Lewisburg, N.C. and her father, William (Bill) Harmon of Williamson.

Kim was a loving and supportive mother of her son, Joshua Carico, his fiance, Jenna Hanson, of Raleigh, N.C.; one daughter, Jessica (Mrs. Bucky Keaton) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two grandsons, Dylan, age 2, and Gavin, 10 weeks, also of Winston-Salem, and one brother, William (Billy) Harmon (and his wife Karen (Pinson) Harmon) of Belfry, Ky. She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, along with many close friends and co-workers.

Kimberly was a fifth-grade elementary school teacher at Royal Elementary, Louisburg. She was also a member of the Belfry Baptist Church.

Many thanks to the Williamson Police Department, Doyle Van Meter, the staff of the Brass Tree Sycamore Inn, Earl Duba, Gary Venturino, George Poole III and John O'Brien.

The family would also like to thank Rogers Funeral Home for their kind words and direction.

We would like to say a special thank you to all who brought food, flowers, etc.

It has all been greatly appreciated. We thank you most for your prayers and the loving arms that held us at this difficult time. It will never be forgotten.

Audra Blankenship
Audra Blankenship, 50, of Baisden, passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at CAMC General Division, Charleston, W. Va.

Born March 5, 1953, in Iaeger, W. Va., to the late Elsworth and Nancy Hatfield Blankenship, she was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman Blankenship and Harry Blankenship; and two sisters, Betty Carter and Margaret Carter.

Surviving are her stepmother, Virginia Blankenship of Hampden, W. Va.; daughter, Nancy Blankenship of the home in Baisden; five sisters, Freda Hightower of Salt Rock, W. Va., Sharon (Shashi) Bhavasar of Pineville, W. Va., Jane (Gopal) Roy of Bluebell, Penn., Bethel (Tony) Jones of Columbia, S.C., Phyllis (Norman) Lines of Huntington, W. Va.; special friend, Carlos Cline of Baisden; special friend, Deborah MacLeod of Detroit, Mich.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 25, 2003, 1 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home with Rev. Jonas Trent officiating. Burial will follow at Rufus Blankenship Cemetery in Mudlick, Baisden.

Serving as pallbearers are Roger Cline, Carlos Cline, Jesse Ellis, Ted Carter, Ricky Carter, Jeff Carter, Auther Ellis. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Hightower, Iven Blankenship, Ray Blankenship, Jerry Blankenship, John T. Hatfield, Jerry Berry, Tony Blankenship and Cecil Lee Ellis.

Friends may call Mounts Funeral Home Chapel at Gilbert, Wednesday evening, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Rev. Paul Fraker
Rev. Paul Fraker, 89, of Oak Hill, W. Va., passed away Sunday Sept. 21, 2003, at home after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Fraker.

He was formerly of Kayford, W. Va., and the former district superintendent of Pentecostal Church of God. He was a former pastor of Kayford Pentecostal Church of God, Ronda Assembly of God, Arnett, Ansted and Oak Hill Assembly.

He was a former employee bus driver for Kanawha County Schools. Mr. Fraker retired from Union Carbide Mines, Blue Creek.

Surviving are his two sons, Philip and his wife Judy of Miami, W. Va, . and Jack and his wife Millie of Lakewells, Fla.; three daughters, Carolyn Basham and her husband Tommy of Ridgeway, Va., Ruby Johnson of Jellico, Tenn., Shirlie Watson and her husband Jim of Oak Hill; sister, Catherine Ritter of Mable, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, 1 p.m., at First Assembly of God, Oak Hill with the Rev. Tommy Basham, Rev. Joe Hoggart, Rev. Jim Nickels and Rev. Marvin Dennis officiating. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church.

Pryor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pleasant Gilman Lohn
Pleasant Gilman Lohn, 78, of Man and Apopka, Fla., died on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, in Apopka. The daughter of the late Hazel McKinley Gilman and Arthur Branch Gilman, she was born in Lucasville, Ohio, on December 16, 1924.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Arthur Branch Gilman II; and her husband, George L. Lohn.

Mrs. Lohn was a 1943 graduate of Man High School and a 1947 graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, with a bachelor of science degree. At Miami she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was a teacher in the Logan County School System, president of McNeely's Inc., vice president of Burgess and Lohn Inc., both of Mountain Mart Village, Man.

She was a lifetime member of Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church where she was active in United Methodist Women and served as Sunday school teacher.

Active in educational and community affairs, Mrs. Lohn was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Triadelphia Woman's Club and Apopka Garden Club. She served on the board of directors of "The Aracoma Story" and Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. She was also named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

She is survived by three daughters, Pleasant McKin-ley Lohn-Reiner of Apopka, Valerie Hudson Gilman Lohn-Rouse of Albany, Ga. and Georgeanne Gilman Lohn-Dasovich of Marietta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Sarah Lohn Reiner of Orlando, Fla., Whitney (Matthew) Reiner Summit of Gainesville, Fla., Hudson (Ashley) Lohn Rouse and Bradley Lohn Rouse of Atlanta, Ga., George Steven Lohn Dasovich and John Gilman Lohn Dasovich of Marietta; and one great grandchild, Isabella Lohn Rouse of Atlanta; and one sister, Ellen G. Burgess of Man.

Other family members include Robert J. Reiner, Kirk L. Rouse, John M. Dasovich, Sarah and Robert Wolfe, Matthew, Steven and Morgan Wolfe, Terri and Gilman Burgess, Lauren and Erin Burgess.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, W. Va. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Krantz McNeely Funeral Home Man and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Active pallbearers will be Steven Wolfe, Matthew Wolfe, Robert Wolfe, Matthew C. Summit, Pat Joe White, Tom Gray, J.C. Holly and Doug Williamson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Hensley, Bill Hensley, Tom Long, Rico Rallos, Steve Bodnar, Bernie Spence, John White, Edward Altizer, Jim Dixon, O.M. Perry, Gary Ellis, Billie Merritt, Earle Queen, Bob Rowe, Bern Amburgey, James Dasovich, Glen Hurley, Homer Williamson, Earl Beverage and Tommy Keffer.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the Bruce McDonald Methodist Church or to the Foundation for End of Life (Hospice Vitas Health) 5151 Adamson St., Suite 200, Orlando, Fla., 32804.

Charlie Smith
Charlie Smith, 75, of Red Jacket, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center of Phelps, Ky.

Born July 16, 1927, in Hillsville, Va., to the late Floyd Smith and Laura Damron Smith, he was a retired coal miner and of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charlie Smith Jr.; brother, Samuel Smith; and sister, Ruth Smith.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Lecco Smith of Red Jacket; special friends, Roby and Barbara Chafin of Meador and their children, Helen and Robert Andrew, all of Meador and David Huddle of Ona, W. Va.; and sister, Virginia Hope Newton (Earl) of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, 2003, at noon, at Chambers Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Terry Joe Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow at Mtn. View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 4, 6-9 p.m. at Chambers Funeral Services Chapel.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services.

Orva Elaine Vanover
Orva Elaine Vanover, 50, of Hanover, W. Va., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 2, 2003, 11:12 p.m., at CAMC Memorial Divi-sion, Charleston, W. Va.

She was born March 4, 1953, in Oak Hill, W. Va., to the late John and Irene Kincade Carden.

A memorial service will be held at the Gilbert Presbyte-rian Church at Gilbert, W. Va., at a later date.

Visitation Thursday evening at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel from 6-9 p.m. with special church services beginning at 7 p.m. with Rev. Ronnie Lester officiating.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of the arrangements.

Clarence Patterson
Memorial services for Mr. Clarence Patterson, 78, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Thursday, September 4, 2003, at 6 p.m. at Sprigg Freewill Baptist Church in Sprigg, W. Va., with the Rev. Vint Arnold officiating. Mr. Patterson died Monday, September 1, 2003 in Alexander City.

He is survived by two daughters, Sheila Broadman of Reno, Nev. and Patricia A. Croston of Zanesville, Ohio; a sister, Clemma Cupp of Chesapeake, Va.; four brothers, Bob Patterson of Stockton, Ca., Russell Patterson of Red Jacket, W. Va., Herbert Patterson of Akron, Ohio and Charlie Patterson of Pasedena, Md.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Patterson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a retired maintenance supervisor with the hotel industry.

Liam David Ashton Mulliken
Liam David Ashton Mulliken, 24 days, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at University of Cincinnati Hospital.

Born August 9, 2003, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Terence K. Mulliken and JoAnna Stanley Mulliken.

Funeral services will be held at Justice Funeral Home and are incomplete at this time.
